As you´ve recently talked about it in the podcast, i wanted to let you know that i really appreciate you putting in the time and effort to produce these super detailed userguides, very helpfull for beginners getting their first camera and even intermediate or pros when it comes to complex menus. Keep up the great work.
C’mon man don’t shame the big guys shooting portraits 😅 I am 6’1 and I need that “shooting from the hip” angles for some models. Variangle screen for the win!
R8 if you can spend the money. R was their first and oldest - a bit crazy ideas on things. RP a bit more traditional, I had it for a year. The cheapest and can get things done. R8 is the latest and greatest, about the same body as the RP and a better sensor. It's not a RP replacement but rather the market/price of the R.
I also just got my R8 about a month ago and while it is a big learning curve for me since i have never owned a camera other than my phone camera, i know it will be worthwhile and fun to learn. I used to think my phone was enough for my needs but than thought i was ready for something more professional
Jared is the best out here, quick, straight to the point, detailed instructions. I watch no one else because I don't want my precious time wasted. Thanks Jared!
Thanks, Jared! I don’t own an R8. I probably won’t ever buy an R8 because I own a Sony a7R-V and don’t really have any need for an R8. But nevertheless, I watched this entire video and found it quite entertaining. As a professional, I want to constantly stay up to date about the features of each camera brand as well as where to find specific settings so I can help other people using other camera systems.
Thank you very much for this video. I have the R8 since about a month, and I am very happy with it. I'm not new to photography, but the R8 has so many more options and features than my 7D and M50-II, so I learned a lot today. And it is much more fun to go through all the settings with you than with the book. 😃 Greetings from Switzerland

Interesting and good video as usual. However, I was a bit surprised by your reaction regarding 'none' when it comes to subject detection. You should be in SERVO, not ONE SHOT for the focus. A green one means "I'm focusing here and not changing focus again". Blue is "I'm focusing on this object and is following it". I tested out AI-SERVO and yes I could go from Green to Blue but not always. The white boxes are the camera saying: "I see this object, you haven't told be to focus yet but if you do, this is what I will focus on".

Great video Jared and team! This is my first "real" camera and your in depth guide was so helpful. The only input I can add that will help other's is that if you accidentally hit the "OK" button to format the sd card, it does not warn you before erasing your card!! Good to see The Fro still going strong. Been away from the hobby for 5 years. I think I’m going to trade in my 5Dmk4 for an R8. Debating if I want to adapt for my holy trinity L series or just trade everything in and dive into the RF lenses… that’s the main debate.
Does anyone have any real world experience on the compatibility of the R8 with Godox triggers? I have a Godox XPro trigger with various Godox flashes and strobes (all used as off camera). Wanting to upgrade my 6Dmk2 to the new R8 but have been hearing rumours that the Godox triggers don’t work with the new R8 hotshoe. Thanks!
Wow, thank you for taking the time to do this! It's been a huge timesaver for me. I purchased this camera a few weeks ago to make RUclips content and it's my first camera since I purchased a Sony Cybershot almost 20 years ago. Learned so much!
I chose the R8. I had to sell my eos r and the 24-105 L for a weird cash flow reason. I did not like the eos r. When I came back to the market, I bought the r8 with the 24-105L Great start. I also sold the 15-35 L 2.8 and an ef 100 to 400 f4. 2. Replaced with the 14-35 f4 L much lighter and with modern cameras, who needs to haul around a massive 2.8 chunk of lens? I also replaced the ef 100-400 with an adapter for the rf 100-500L. Not really used this yet. So impressed with the forward journey of Canon since I bought my eos r. Autofocus on the R8 is astonishing.

Started watching this the other day after it was posted,, went through it again just to try and recall the info.. Thank you very much for putting this video out.. I bought the R8 and am starting at level 1 as my first/last camera was the Rebel xt. I'm loving this thing, and love it even more after this video and getting the run down of what the things actually do!
I just ordered one

Does V30 ssd cards effect stills? Besides the buffer rate?

Thank you for making these kinds of user guides ❤
The best video for R8 on RUclips
Guys, under AF settings, under Touch & Drag AF Settings... the " Tap to select subject to detect " setting is set to OFF and its grayed out.. I can't turn it on. Does anyone know why ?
Nevermind, Figured it out. It was because the Touch & Drag AF was unable. lololol
34:53 uh… no that’s backwards
Good to see The Fro still going strong. Been away from the hobby for 5 years. I think I’m going to trade in my 5Dmk4 for an R8. Debating if I want to adapt for my holy trinity L series or just trade everything in and dive into the RF lenses… that’s the main debate.
Use the adapter and save some money
I’ve been waiting for this user’s guide. Thanks Jared!!
canon 7d mark ii back button focus setup
Wonderful review James! the most insightful and detailed review video comparison of the R6 Mark II and R8!
The video I've been searching for
Hello . Canon r8 + ef rf adapter+ tamron 24-70 f2.8 g2 + canon ex 430 Speedlite?
will the mount hold it?
and grip camera R8 ?
can anyone help me to turn on the focus ring
does this camera do high speed sync?
Thanks!
I tried this and the photos are terrible
Jesus was a photographer.
You can’t charge it via usb c
Hey man I saw you at the B&H expo in NYC. Loved hearing your story and inspiring me to purchase the R*. Keep grinding man. Would love to catch up when you are back in NYC!
Long video and intense but also very helpful and definitely better than of read all the guide.
Also every voice of the menu is explained and clarify the usage so we can decide how to setup. Thank you!
