      Also most cameras since the SL2 have had decent performance at higher ISOs anyway, I've shot at 6400 and 12400 ISO without anyone complaining about grainy photos on my SL2, most people who are just posting for Instagram tend to add in artificial grain in post anyway

    Love the R8, especially as B-Cam. For interviews I added a 65W PowerBook, endless battery life with that.
    I got the heatmeter coming on in 4K 25fps, it did blink with overheat warning after 1,5 hours. This is good enough and I still can shoot som stuff in 1080 anyways. That said: like the image quality, colours and how it pairs with my R7. Thanks to your review, have to go back to Asia one day, miss Japan and also Korea and China. Cheers 👍🏻

    Just bought one, my first full Frame Canon after shooting with a Canon Digital Rebel T3i for more than 12 years now. It's a good enoug upgrade for what I will shoot with the camera... mostly stills, low light, some professional work stuff and landscapes. Do very light video which is not a priority for me. It's nice the camera does have better video than anything else I have for an occasional clip.

    As a working pro, have a couple of R3s, and always put one of these in my bag for those just in case moments. It sure holds up to the quality of the R3.

  • @duckyz9
    @duckyz9 18 дней назад

    Small and very capable camera. Couple of drawbacks though:
    1. Small battery
    2. 1 SD card (for pro work gives me the chills even though nothing ever happened to my cards)
    3. No mechanical shutter
    4. Can overheat when recording 4K60
    Better than any canon camera below R6 mark II.
    Whenever someone asks me what camera should they buy as a beginner, I always recommend R8 - why?
    1 - buy it nice not twice
    2 - not that expensive
    3 - will do anything and everything almost anyone needs

    Using the RP for past few years I really am finding it difficult to decide on the R8 for how portable it is to travel with all day vs some of the nicer features of the R6ii like the viewfinder, joystick & larger battery. Will the R6ii just get left behind due to the extra weight or do those features really translate into the more enjoyable shooting experience and inspire you to want to use it more than the R8.

      I ended up going with the R6 m2! I just got back from a trip to Central America with it and it worked out great. I think people exaggerate how much bigger it is than the R8/RP - it’s barely larger, and much more comfortable. Excellent shots and points as always! Canon hasn't always made it easy to be a fan of their RF rollout, but the R8 is a MASSIVE exception, the value here is incredible. Particularly for photo-first shooters, this camera is incredibly capable. And I really like the 50mm and 28mm options as affordable, small, everyday options.

    I have a RP and many of the good things said about the R8 apply to it. I considered the R8 but bought another option. I shoot a lot af manual focus lenses and I am old, gimbals are not free and do add weight so my new purchase has ibis. Ibis opened a lot of possibilities for me and was a step up in the number of "keepers" for me. As a counter to the R8 I would buy a used RP and get a body with ibis and two card slots. I would love a R8 but we all have goals and budgets that have to be met. With new price on the R8 it would be a stronger contender at the time I bought and I do love the menu system, ergonomics and its weight.

    • @TKNORTH
      @TKNORTH  11 месяцев назад +2

      Appreciate that and thanks for checking out the vid 😊
      Here’s a few things I focus on, hopefully some help a little bit!
      For me practice can really help, practicing all different types of movements and shots, sometimes anything with movement I’ll even redo a few times to practice the same movement a few times.
      Position wise, I tend to really lock my elbows to my side and create all the movement at my legs or body where possible, sometimes a bit like a lunge if moving forward or back. Keeping the camera as close to the body as possible. You’ll look silly doing it sometimes but it all helps 😅 When locking in your elbows like this, just turning your body without moving your arms will help with those panning type movements also!
      Settings wise shooting in 50 or 60fps and slowing it down in post can definitely help. I didn’t use the slow motion FHD much on the R8 but this will also be easier to create smooth motion.
      Hope some of these are helpful in some way, definitely practice over time really helps me get smoother with different types of shots 😊 so that’s the biggest one for me!

    The day IBIS is critical is the day you're going to be using a gimbal that probably cost between 25-40% of the price difference between the R8 and the R6 Mk2, and then consider this: if that shot is that important, would you really risk the "IBIS wobble"? No, so aren't you going to use the gimbal anyway? Also, there are direct comparisons on RUclips which show surprising results, in most circumstances it appears you can hand shoot as well with lens stabilisation only as with IBIS, it's only the really long range stuff that makes a real difference (and even then, it's not like its night and day). And let's be realistic here; the IBIS and full mechanical shutter had to go to get the weight and size down, think of it like a 'sports coupé' of the camera world, a big engine with all the fluff thrown out. And anyhow, im of an age when I grew up there was no image stabilisation, to take a photo required a steady hand, oddly enough, we managed. Perhaps the moral of this is that if you're complaining about a lack of IBIS, maybe your technique could do with some work...

    Thanks for the review! I’m very interested in this camera, however, I’m a bit hesitant due to lens limitations. What’s your take on it? My other option would be a Sony A6700 (I know it’s an APS-C 🙁) which offers way more options when it comes to lenses.

    • @TKNORTH
      @TKNORTH  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks so much! I think for me definitely deciding whether you want APS-C vs Full Frame is a big deciding factor. In the same line of thinking around lenses, if there’s any chance you might go full frame in the future it will totally change your lens lineup once you do.
      I totally get there’s way more options on Sony for lenses but ultimately it might depend on you and what particular lenses you use. Nowadays I’m finding sticking to 2-3 lenses and reducing what I’m carrying is most ideal. I’d say across all budgets there’s a few different options in Canon’s lineup for a versatile lens setup, even though it is much more limited! So it just depends a bit what you’re after!

    Actually, Canon R8 can easily be the number 1 seller if they allow some lenses like Sigma 24 to 70mm F2.8 with IS for RF version. The L series 24-105mm can be offered with it at a reduced price. A person who is upgrading himself/herself from APS-C to full frame needs two types of lens at first 1) an overall zoom lens with IS and 2) a prime (with IS if possible). Canon offered two good cheap primes with IS (24mm and 35mm f1.8) but Canon does not offer a cheap overall zoom lens. Sigma RF 24-70mm F2.8 could be a solution but having IS is important as R8 does not have IBIS. For this reason, Canon can offer R8 and RF24-105mm F4 together at a cheap prime combo offer.
