@@brucedeo1981 I’ve heard clipping and what @johnbunani1341 is describing as a result of their noise gate, especially when listening on headphones. They probably need another set of ears to check their sound for them.
Love you guys, but Chelsea let me down on this one! I've got about 20k shots on the Mark II. I thought I loved the original R5, but the Mark II autofocus blows it away! I photograph moving subjects in a crowd of other moving subjects and with the original I sometimes struggled to focus on my intended target (dual BBF). With the Mark II I am locked on to shots I'd never get with the original. You rightfully panned some of the "features", but hopefully nobody is buying this camera for the gimmicky generative AI, Eye Control AF, etc. I have not even tested the eye control focus. Why would I when I'm able to focus on exactly what I want so precisely? Some of the other fixes that I love are: I can use the electronic shutter now. It doesn't have rolling shutter (at least not in my use cases), I can adjust the frames per second and it makes as much or as little noise as I want it to. On the original I tested the electronic shutter once and for 4 years I only used mechanical shutter. I think I used the mechanical shutter on the Mark II about 10 times and don't see any reason to ever use it again. Great upgrade! C'mon Chelsea!!!
I agree with fully with Everything you said. I used the mechanical shutter one day till I realized that my strobes can now be used with electronic shutter which I couldn't do with the original R5. That alone will help to enable longer life go the camera.
yea i figured the only reason to buy is the autofocus, but for most of us that do portraits... i think 4k to upgrade is not really worth it right now. maybe if i sell my R5, but i love this thing way too much haha idk its just easy and im used to it. rather spend the money on glass or a R6ii for better low light video
Something to note is that the dynamic range is at it’s fullest potential in mechanical shutter so when you do landscapes and want the most, worth to change there.
@@JohnMihelakis I have both cameras for the same reason. I probably would not have upgraded except that i broke my usb-c port on my R5 and needed it to tether in the studio. Plus my camera store gave me a good deal on the upgrade on the release date.
Tony, please please stop recommending camera manufacturers start adding internal storage. The cons far out weigh the pros. You keep comparing cameras to phones (rightly so) but look at the way storage has gone in phones. Insane high pricing for the high storage options, the lowest cheapest storage option will be for marketing only and likely be pathetically too low to be that useful, it’s likely manufacturers will start removing the option for removable storage (like on phones) particularly on entry level cameras to ‘to reduce cost’. Finally for the same reason people want double card slots, the most likely thing on a camera to wear and fail is the storage, let’s not make a failure point permanently part of the camera. Hasselblad etc get away with this because they are not main stream cameras this stuff doesn’t matter, most people will never have one of these, they aren’t getting the hammering a sports camera gets, they shoot slow etc etc you understand it’s a different demographic. Companies can’t be trusted with this sort of thing and you know it, look at Apple, Samsung, Adobe when they start getting away with something they won’t stop. It’s not worth the slight speed increase, once we go down this path it will be too late. Please stop.
👍 Exactly what I'm doing, you dont need to buy it used and its still at a good discount price. Especially for those cameras, I don't need 30 FPS, even for wildlife and I don't do video. I have been taking good photos for years using a 5D MK III and 7D MK II on my 500 mm F4 MK II with ex 1.4 III TC. I got the R5 new, at discount price when the MK II was announced. When the 5D MK II specs were released, it became clear for me that the new features did not worth the price difference... So I also bought EF to RF adapters (plain + the CP one), fast memory cards, card reader, and extra batteries for less money...
Unless you’re a Nikon shooter… I’m not waiting until the Z6IV to get the AF of the Z6III. Canon / Sony AF was way better than Nikon until Z9/Z8/Z6III. I’ve already waited way too long to get AF comparable to the original R5/R6.
I actually very recently upgraded from 5D IV to R5, and since I'm not a pro I think an R5 over an R5 II makes a lot of sense knowing it's half the price :-) Very happy with the R5.
I'm confused basically I have plan of getting R6 mark 2 just 4 months used with RF 24-105 4L and RF 100 2.8 + 256 GB card 300MB/s In 3465 USD. On the other hand R5mark2 is 4265 USD. I also don't have any lens. There are 2 options first is buy the 2 lens with R62 or 2nd option is R52 with Rf50 1.8... later on I'll upgrade my lens 24-105.. is it worth to sacrifice more money. I want 4,5 years future safe. If you're in my place what you'll do?? Is it good offer or suggest me any other option!!
@@TheXone7 Not true. You are going of what You Tubers are saying. I little bit more noise in the shadows at high ISO which you will never see if exposed correctly. Don't upgrade and you will be further behind the other pros. The R5 II is a big upgrade over the R5. I have both.
Let me say that I appreciate all the work it must take to provide this FREE content to us. You guys get your points across and are entertaining to watch! I’ve learned a lot from your video’s. I love your technical approach to doing the reviews, and I trust your opinion, and how they apply to real world situations. I would love to see more content on teaching the art of photography too. Lastly, I’m just amazed at some of the comments on things that have nothing to do with the TOPIC covered in this free review. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experiences and knowledge!
After I watch this video, I don’t feel like buying the R5II. Luckily I bought it at launch. It is an excellent camera for wildlife photography. Menu is very easy to use. I don’t know what you are talking about. The “real” wildlife photographers love this camera.
Coming from R8, the AF on R5II has improved significantly when I am using my rf200800. R8 is still a very good camera but R5 II is surprisingly a lot more better for wildlife tracking, especially after tweaking some settings.
08:36 I get that this is a brief run-down/comparison, but that Osprey shot was only at 500 iso, dynamic range issues will be more prominent at higher isos that wildlife photographers will often have to use
Wow what timing, Just bought a brand new R5, yes the R5ii looks nice with all its new features but it means the huge amount of money I’ve save can be spent on older EfL lens again saving a fortune, I only shoot for myself so not making any money off buying this kit so cheaper option is a must, what timing, who else noticed Chelsea giving the finger 🤣🤣love your videos 🥳🥳🥰🥰
I am with Chelsea on this. While some of the upgraded features on the Mark II are really nice, for what I do, there is no justification for the substantial difference in price. In fact, I just 'upgraded' to the original R5 from my much older R and much less expensive R7, (the latter of which I sold to help finance the purchase). As I have done for several decades of photography, I rarely if ever run out and buy the newest greatest camera available. Instead, I put my money in good glass which I tend to keep and use for many years. For example, when I switched from DSLR to mirrorless about 4 years ago, I still had a first generation, 2006 model, Canon EF 70-200 L lens which I had purchased used in 2012- an $800 investment for ten years of viable usability. Perhaps in 2027 I might pick up a Canon R5II for a couple thousand dollars less than the current price. Until then, I will be more than happy to hit the field with my R5 and my original R as a back up platform. Totally agree that Canon's user menu is dreadful.
I've tried to set up eye control about 15 times and it moves near but not right on the area I need. Vanessa Joy said she had to calibrate it 25 times, so maybe 10 more times and it is perfect. A problem is that 80-year-old eyelids tend to puff up and move closer together, so maybe this feature isn't for old people.
I’m glad I’ve got my R5 just after Christmas, and I’ve got it at a significantly reduced price, and if you take into account trading my 5D Mark IV, and Canon’s cash back, it ended up being half price. I was expecting the R5 Mark II to be announced around May, and it still was a no brainer for me to get the original R5. Judging by how incremental are usually Canon’s upgrades, especially at the high end cameras, I couldn’t justify paying almost double the price for the Mark II, when the original R5 was already a huge leap from my 5D Mark IV. I’m also not a professional photographer, so that’s another factor to take into account.
I prefer Jared Polin's comparison of the R5ii with the R5 and R3. I find this channel's reviews tend to be overly pessimistic and occasionally click baity.
What about shooting 12 fps with mechanical shutter for wild life. No worries about dynamic range or rolling shutter in either camera. No one seems to have made those tests or comparisons. I would assume the faster readout of the R5 mark II allows for better autofocus with mechanical shutter as well.
The first rule of video is don't have crappy audio. Just like in the days of broadcast analog TV, you'd watch a show if reception wasn't great: there might be some "snow" in the picture or occasional rolling and you'd still watch. But if the audio was crap you'd check what's on the other channels or turn off the TV set.
I just bought a used canon R5 and a used 24-70 2.8 for $3000 off Facebook marketplace… unless you were a full-time professional photographer who can afford insane CFE express cards, And have a strong need for 30 frames per second shooting… that I don’t see a huge reason to invest into the mark ii. I’m with Chelsea! Give me all the lenses I can get!
Don’t know why they made the r5mkii more video centric when they have the r5c line. Keeping my R5 for non stacked sensor and a little bit better dynamic range. Also nice to be able to quickly record slow mo while in photo mode. I do like the addition of clog 2 though. Still needs anti-theft security features! Also, those DJI mics have never sounded good to me. Even the previous version. Rode sounds way better for portable mics.
I have both r5 and r5markII I find I reach for the r5markII more. I think the r5 at its price now is very hard to beat but if you have the money the r5markII is incredible. I shoot cosplay events and i hit more shots with the markII. I also seam to recover more shots that i miss exposed . the eye focus following is 100% useless they should just remove that. both cameras are great. but for me the upgrade was worth it for my type of photography. i also think in time the r5markii will get some firmware upgrades to pull ahead even more. great video thank you
So... when the R5 came out, the nay sayers complained that it did not have a stacked sensor and it overheated. But now, that does not matter. Because at ISO 100 to ISO 400 there is a fraction of a difference in DR... That about sums up what I think of internet "reviews". I dont know the details of various demosaicing algorithms . All I know is if you sample a signal at twice the Nyquist frequency, you can reconstruct the entire signal mathematically. So if the pixels are spaced such that the Nyquist frequency of the change in light intensity fits that requirement, you can mathematically reconstruct any resolution. I dont know where the AI comes into this. Would be good is somebody with knowledge could look at this. I just know that processing R7 images at higher ISO in Darktable does make a difference when selecting different algorithms. And this attempt Canon has at calculating higher MP may have merit but it is a crappy attempt. You really want to send your camera in for repairs in 8 years time because the internal storage finally failed? Hasselblad etc are for idiots who think fast internal storage is somehow a thing.
At 7:39 the sensor or something is producing those lines. In other reviews I saw the same thing occuring when it's dark colors in the background of the subject. Great energy in this vid, very enjoyable to watch
The audio was rough, especially Tony's mic. It makes it difficult to watch. Good info though. 1tb for 5 min. is crazy. Too bad Canon fired Rudy Winston, he was the face of Canon for so long.
You missed one of the most important features on the mark2 for wildlife and action and that is the half a second-15fps raw pre-capture. That pre-capture, the better AF, and the faster readout/almost no rolling shutter makes it worth the upgrade.
You guys are funny but you forgot to talk about pre-capture. That's a big one. I have both. I find the R5 ll better has auto focus. I'm a wildlife shooter. Thanks for the comparison. By the way Chelsea was that finger to emphasize Tony's IQ or hat size?
Finally Tony mentions transferring files to camera with a USB-C to USB-C cable. Works perfectly on Canon R8 to Android. Turn the camera on and the Canon Camera Connect app immediately opens on my phone. Wireless options are clunky and slow.
The Canon R5 is the best choice for photographers IMO but if you are financially capable and need video then the Canon R5 Mark II is the way to go, again IMO 👍👍😎. I have the R6 and R5 and love both cameras but I don't shoot video, mostly Landscape and family photography. Great video guys, hey did Tony get his hands working 🤣🤣🤣
I think one thing which isn't touched upon, being that judging from Canon online specs, the original R5 uses an FSI sensor, while the R5 Mark II uses a BSI sensor. BSI sensors often have better capability when it comes to light, as they gain an extra f-stop equivalent, and typically perform better at higher ISOs.
Seriously??!! The R5 Mk2 has numerous improvements over the R5 including: 1) Full 14-bit lossless RAW @ 30 fps 2) Adjustable frame rates 3) AF system is directly taken from the R1 flagship camera (minus cross-type AF sensors) 4) 8K60 video 5) RAW precapture Even the recently announced Sony A1 II does not offer #1 or #4.
This really felt like a lazy review. You spent too much time on stuff that no one cares about (upscaling) and about zero time on things that would make this camera an important upgrade for some shooters. Yes, some won’t need to upgrade but for others it will be a very important upgrade. Y’all did’t mention any of the new AF areas or even the pre-shooting or the fps boost feature. It’s like you didn’t really seriously use the camera. Maybe Canon would listen to you if you made more serious in-depth review as you use to do. There is a lot of time pitching for your sponsors and talking about people being lured into spending more money. If you guys are so burnt out on camera reviews “I’m tired of it”, maybe you should start planning your next careers…..oh, I’ve had my copy for over a month and I actually know how to remove the hot-shoe cover.
If they touched on all the features the video would likely take about an hour and would likely bore too many people. I am sure you would find reviews on the internet relating to the specific functions you enjoy but perhaps many others are not bothered with them. They covered everything of interest to me but before buying I would wait until all the early bugs have been sorted especially the one where the camera freezes and you have to remove the battery to get it to work again. This is a fault with many models of Gopros and they have not found a fix yet.
@@petercreagh8797 He only needed to mention the best features and say a bit about them. Others have done this. Instead they spent time being silly and talking about things that don’t matter. Like I said, it is a lazy review and they should retire.
Very well done, as usual. I just enjoy how you two hit all the highlights--dynamic range, AF, rolling shutter etc. Educating us while keeping it entertaining.
Geez, only got about 2 minutes into this - can't listen because of the distorted audio. Initial part of this 'review' has a very snarky 'attitude' about it. Donno what your actual conclusions were, but R5 ii is actually an enormous upgrade from orig R5 wrt autofocus, precapture implementation, and eye control AF. Menu and flexibility of setup have also been greatly improved. From my perspective of wildlife (especially bird) photography - well worth the upgrade cost. Guess you guys are either Nikon or Sony fans.

FYI those DJI mics have a safety channel. It records a separate track at a lower volume in case you clip. Make sure you guys turn it on, it will help save your audio in times like this. Love you guys!
The Canon R5 Mk 2 seems to offer everything that the Nikon Z8 does. But I'd still go for the Nikon system, because they support 3rd party lenses, while Canon forces you to buy their lenses exclusively. I own a mix of Tamron, Sigma and Nikon lenses, and really appreciate the choice. Canon restricts me, and I don't like that.
Thanks guys for the review. Quick question, at 10:45 while on the slomo R5II shot, there’s a big circle around the gorgeous Chelsea. Is that from the R5II? Hope it’s just something you did in post.
What annoys me about GPS is that it records the location of the photographer and not the location of the subject. That often is a huge difference. It should not be too complicated for the camera to find the location of the subject, as it has the focal length, the direction and the focus. So if I take a photo of the Eiffel Tower from a mile away, it should be possible for the camera to calculate the location of the Eiffel Tower.
I own both the R5 and the R5 MkII. I prefer the vastly improved electronic shutter read-out speed of the MkII for panning shots of birds and aircraft (my main subjects). The "vehicle" focus tracking setting is also much better with the MkII and I find much less wandering if a light pole or other object temporarily enters the frame. So I will recommend a third option: Sell the R5 to KEH and replace it with the R5 MkII.
WOAHHH what happened to the audio here.. I have and use those exact mics and mine have never sounded like this... On another note, I upgraded my R5 to then R5II (got mine on release day) and as a hybrid shooter the R5II definitely blows the original out of the water. As a photographer though...original R5 is JUST as good without the little bells and whistles.
I switch the camera connect app settings to always on with the gps setting and flip it back to never after a session. Seems to update regularly, but I haven’t checked it for pinpoint accuracy.
I can tell you which was the best value for me. I sent my R5II back. (I had a host on another channel say I was lying, so I sent the RMA sheet from B&H and he deleted his comment.) If I didn't have the R5, I would have clearly kept the R5II. It's a very good camera. But for me it wasn't worth the upgrade price.
Great video guys, thanks! It'd be great if you made a video about autofocus between sony and canon (who's the king of autofocus: sony a7rV, sony a1 II or canon R5 mark II?). this comparison is because I'm interested in deciding whether to go for a sony camera or stay with canon (5D mark III) to advance to wildlife photography.
I'm liking the trend of not upgrading your camera every 2 years! I'm a pro shooter on R5 for 3 years and knowing that it's still a top notch camera is a good feeling. I also think its showing that the imaging technology is plateauing a bit. I'm guessing that the next wave of tech upgrade is direct connectivity, GPS, security...
I bought an R5 for 2700USD back in February 2024 and boy do I not regret this purchase. Not only could I not wait for the R5 back then due to an upcoming trip to Canada but I knew the R5 II was going to cost way too much again when it would be released. So yeah, the R5 has a much better price performance ratio. And I love my Canada images ;)
A helpful comparison, thanks, though I'm not persuaded that the Mark II is worth the difference in price. Nevertheless, I need a second camera as a back-up for my R7/ RF 100-500, which I use almost exclusively for birds and wildlife, and I'm pretty pleased with my results despite the crop sensor and slow sensor read-outs. I'm therefore torn between the original R5 and a second R7. I'd love to hear from users of both as to their experiences in terms of image quality, bird eye-tracking, and low-light performance.
This was fun. That generative ai is amazing! It changed Chelsea's outfit and hair style during her golf swing! Incredible. I am definitely buying the mark II for it's wardrobe and hairdo generating capabilities.
Thank you guys for this great video, it was a pleasure to watch as always. However I can’t personally recommend KEH, after 3 bad experiences buying lenses and trying to sell. Description of condition not matching the actual item at all, to an extend where it felt like deception. At least the mpb lenses were in good enough condition to keep. The KEH lens I bought had a bunch of big scratches on the front glass element that showed very obviously in the images and had a bunch of dust inside, even though it was rated as in “excellent” condition. Very disappointing, but I finally learned my lesson. I’m still buying used lenses, but has much better luck with mpb, they are not perfect, but the descriptions actually matched the product. Alas the smudged greasy and dusty exterior was the same on KEH and mpb. So they required a lot of love and cleaning after arrival, none of the KEH lenses were ever in good enough condition to keep though so I didn’t bother.
I think the reason why cameras don't have access security is because it would be a hassle to put in a password every time you turned them on plus if its a bright sunny day you would not see the screen too well. There would be a risk of missing shots entering a password too. I would hire one before buying and my R7 is fine for the time being even if I do miss more in flight shots. I would buy once all the early bugs have been sorted with it and at a discount price in about a years time. Maybe there could be an R7Mk2 then as well to try.
I would recommend sticking with the R5 if you are not a high speed action photographer. Clearly the R5 II is far better far sports and very fast moving wildlife. That said I have found the R5 to do a very nice job photographing in flight birds and wildlife in many scenarios. The $2,000 difference in price is fairly significant to many people.
For what I shoot, my R5 is fine. If I find I'm in a spot that the rolling shutter could be a problem, I simply sacrifice speed for straight, unwarped shots. And a comment about KEH...I recently sold them a lens and received $38 MORE than the original offer. Of course, I baby my lenses and I'd dare anyone to find a mark on it AND I save the original box and all the internal packing.
And an editorial note...I've been following you guys for a long time and I have to comment to Chelsea, you've been in the gym and I'll leave it at that. 🙂
I love my R5ii, upgraded from an original R6 (also a great camera)... the pre-capture is amazing for wildlife, the FPS is excellent. Every camera has some tradeoffs. It's a little funny, after watching the review I dont feel like I know whether y'all like it or not... doesn't really matter to me, I already have mine. I do appreciate the comparison to the original and some of the humor!
Hi thanks nice demo i bought used R5 the first owner selected interval, meter i tried to to alter the number of shots failed although i changed the time 7 date to my country any clue?
Thanks for the review, but I wish you'd told us how the camera to phone transfer compared to other camera manufacturers... the rant about it compared to the iPhone to Mac is definitely an issue I appreciate you talking about; still, other camera manufacturers are the competition we need to know about.
ohhh good vid, but still torn between them. I struggle with the thought of buying a 4-year-old electronic anything. How long will Canon have support for the R5? I think that is the unanswered question.
I'm stickin w my R5.... If they'd done an actual substantial real resolution bump, I'd have an R5ii already. But as you determined, otherwise not critical unless you're a sports or perhaps wildlife shooter. I find pixelshift does some strange artifact things shooting stationary artwork=odd. A single raw shot produces clearly superior files. Slightly better files when you tell photoshop to quadrupel your rez when opening in camera raw, but not enough better than just in photoshop interpolation to make me do it with all painting files. O... you two are adorable. Thanks for many years of good and relevant advice.
WOW........Dude, why is there no BODY CAP on that Canon R5 II on your HIP............OMG. You guys do awesome reviews, very in depth, and at times a bit too
I’ve never had a problem transferring jpegs from my R5 to my IPhone 13 Pro. I’ve transferred several hundred photos in a couple of minutes. I agree they should have added GPS, but not because the app on the phone doesn’t work, but because I tend to forget to use it.
Only problem is that now that everyone knows it's better to get the R5 M1, they are no longer available - all sold out....or the price has increased.....
Overheating was a big problem for me with the R5M1 even after all the firmware updates.. had to constantly pop it in a refrigerator when it shut down (this is shooting outdoors in the sun with 90 degrees plus temps)..R52 with vents and fan MUCH better. Also, file sizes smaller.. af better, CLOG-2, etc.
For sports the Canon R5 mkII just made the Canon R3 (which I used in the football season until September) obsolete. Not sure I'll upgrade to the R1 now.
R1 is definitely a more specialized camera for low-light high speed photography where deeper buffers and world-class high ISO performance is critical. Think night-time sports. The R5 Mk2 is a phenomenal camera, but so is the R1. Frankly, I am glad that Canon differentiated the cameras more so than the Nikon Z8/Z9.
I came to the comments for the bad audio comments. I’ll say one thing that will hopefully change your attitude towards audio, as it has always been some what of a compromise on your channel, but there is no such compromise over at Fro Knows ;) I listen to his podcast in the car and it’s glorious audio quality, even if I do disagree with most of what he says lol. Please, just buy a Mixpre 3 ii and record 32bit float and you’ll never experience this clipping again. Go with the industry standards, Sennheiser MKH416 for overhead boom or similar, or go classic podcast style and get yourselves 2 Shure SM7B’s, they look as good as they sound. It will make a difference, I know you believe most people are viewing on phones and thus quality doesn’t matter as much, but it does. Even more so I’d say on the audio front.

The key is to have patience to wait for the next camera to come out so you can buy the current one for a discount 😉
@@ME2K23 I did exactly the same. The R5mki is an AMAZING piece of kit. Why "upgrade" when you are near perfect?
Unless you’re a Nikon shooter… I’m not waiting until the Z6IV to get the AF of the Z6III. Canon / Sony AF was way better than Nikon until Z9/Z8/Z6III. I’ve already waited way too long to get AF comparable to the original R5/R6.
Literally bought mine like 30 mins ago for 1500 lol
That's exactly what I did. I love my R5 with a RF 24-70 2.8 L lens at a fraction of what I would've paid a few years ago.
It's not a good T&C video if the sound doesn't saturate at some point 🥰
I actually very recently upgraded from 5D IV to R5, and since I'm not a pro I think an R5 over an R5 II makes a lot of sense knowing it's half the price :-) Very happy with the R5.
I'm confused basically I have plan of getting R6 mark 2
just 4 months used with RF 24-105 4L and RF 100 2.8 + 256 GB card 300MB/s
In 3465 USD. On the other hand R5mark2 is 4265 USD. I also don't have any lens.
There are 2 options first is buy the 2 lens with R62 or
2nd option is R52 with Rf50 1.8... later on I'll upgrade my lens 24-105.. is it worth to sacrifice more money.
Why is your audio peaking constantly. Could have just used the on board 32bit.
agree, feel like it's hard to screw it up this bad with 32b
Agree. I don’t recognize the things mentioned in this video. The R5 mk2 is just awesome. Just as the R5 is.
Coming from R8, the AF on R5II has improved significantly when I am using my rf200800. R8 is still a very good camera but R5 II is surprisingly a lot more better for wildlife tracking, especially after tweaking some settings.
The terrible audio has to just be engagement bait at this point, nearly every video has scuffed audio at some point.
embarrassingly bad audio from "professionals"
R5 pixel shift is useless as it's only outputs jpeg so you are limited to 8-bit. Really hope they add some king of better pixel shift support
What did you do to the audio
It's always so scared to see camera's without a lens or body cap hahaha, great video guys!
Chelsea's so SASSY today. Love it!
When testing sports, you really need to also have other people running in and out of frame in front of the subject.
Exactly!!
You guys are funny but you forgot to talk about pre-capture. That's a big one. I have both. I find the R5 ll better has auto focus. I'm a wildlife shooter. Thanks for the comparison. By the way Chelsea was that finger to emphasize Tony's IQ or hat size?
My nails are perfectly clipped due too those dji mics.
If only you had spelled "to" correctly, the snarkiness would have hit harder.
Finally Tony mentions transferring files to camera with a USB-C to USB-C cable. Works perfectly on Canon R8 to Android. Turn the camera on and the Canon Camera Connect app immediately opens on my phone.
Wireless options are clunky and slow.
And that is more useful than hearing about precalture everyone knows about from specs leaks
I considered upgrading my R5s to mark IIs at first, but when I saw that they weren't much different or even better, I quickly scrapped that idea!
Who is telling you the R5 II isn't much better than the R5?
The R5 Mk2 has numerous improvements over the R5 including:
1) Full 14-bit lossless RAW @ 30 fps
2) Adjustable frame rates
3) AF system is directly taken from the R1 flagship camera (minus cross-type AF sensors)
4) 8K60 video
5) RAW precapture
Even the recently announced Sony A1 II does not offer #1 or #4.
I don't think it's worth 2x the price though. Do you?
And BSI sensor?
What camera you shot this video with?
What about the R5 2 vs the z 8?
I just came here to say that I love Chelsea ❤
😮
Haha right back atchya!

Disappointed at the 24.2 image resolution? Not great for wildlife photography which is what I wanted it for. May be returning it 😢
FYI those DJI mics have a safety channel.
I also own Tamron and Sigma lenses for my Canon system?
@@Zenutheduck-to4nryea what’s he talkin about same here
If you are in the Nikon echo system then yes. The R5 II has better AF, better video dynamic range and 4K 120p with audio.
Which body do I prefer? Sorry Tony but I prefer Chelsea's... R5 :)
Thanks guys for the review. Quick question, at 10:45 while on the slomo R5II shot, there’s a big circle around the gorgeous Chelsea. Is that from the R5II? Hope it’s just something you did in post.
Some photography oriented youtubers said that pixel shift was worthless in the field - so I'm confused ! Did Canon get it to work well ?
Wonder your thoughts on pre-capture and the focus hit rate.
What about the overheating issue the R5 has with filming video in 4K 60fps? Does anyone know if they fixed that with the R5 Mark II ?
Just upgraded from canon r6 to the R5 mark 2 found the latest version of the canon app to work well easy and fast to download pictures to my phone
What kind of shooting do you do ? I do mainly landscapes so I think the R5 would be amazing for me.
I'd love to hear from users of both as to their experiences in terms of image quality, bird eye-tracking, and low-light performance.
the audio is usually pretty bad, but this is exceptionally terrible.
I'm just glad you guys are having fun :)
You didn't mention that the R5-II has no recording limit like the R5. That alone is worth the upgrade for a lot of people.
Fingerprint scanner
Hi, what camera was used to capture the view in the house? The picture is super
No mention of Clog2 on video. Unbiassed review 😂😂😂
Slog 2 is A hundred times better, end of story 😅
@@محمدالعربي-ن9ل1ن I was going to say, "why do people buy Canon cameras for video?" LOL
@@OhhhhhhhBugger People buy Canon because Sony has problems with colors and storage memory prices are 5 times more expensive 😱
the colors on this video are gorgeous what is the video recorded on?
For what I shoot, my R5 is fine. If I find I'm in a spot that the rolling shutter could be a problem, I simply sacrifice speed for straight, unwarped shots. And a comment about KEH...I recently sold them a lens and received $38 MORE than the original offer. Of course, I baby my lenses and I'd dare anyone to find a mark on it AND I save the original box and all the internal packing.
And an editorial note...I've been following you guys for a long time and I have to comment to Chelsea, you've been in the gym and I'll leave it at that. 🙂
No mention of pre-shooting? Major feature for many.
Major reason I upgraded
I love my R5.
Even though I am guilty of collecting gear, I feel no need for a Mk II.
I'd like to see a rolling shutter test with the camera held in vertical mode :-).
You also need to add in that you’re buying a used camera that might be 4 years old. You’re not “saving $2000” because it’s not like for like.
Can I get the "I Shoot RAW" T-Shirt on your website?
That sound is horrible. What happened? My DJI misc do not sound like that.
The main reason I would upgrade from my original versions is the fact I can shoot with the electronic shutter using flashes
Is it a new thing to flaunt around with no caps on the camera bodies? Apart from that, the video was really helpful, thanks!!
Tony, your audio editor needs to be sold to KEH. Likely he made a fundamental mistake of applying loudness goal across the combined audio
Running toward a camera aint no sport
