I love the Z6III. It's got everything I need to take beautiful photos for my clients, and I don't have to deal with 45mp files that add little value and slow me down. I like it so much that I have a Z8 with 162 shutter actuations. I literally set it up to what I thought would work for me, fired a few test shots, and ahoved it in my camera bag. It hasn't left sense. It's a nice camera and someday I will use it for wildlife when I have time. Otherwise, it's a nice backup.
R5 "...doesn't have rolling shutter", meanwhile in the cormorant shot we are looking at a pylon that is shearing at around 15 degrees (4:08 mark). I really prefer Canon to Sony for it's operation and ergonomics, but the R5II is pretty disappointing for rolling shutter.

Got some important advice for you guys, do not launch an HDR video until it has finish processing on RUclips and even then, it won't be ready, especially for a video over 10 minutes long. THE LONGER you wait for it to process, the better it will look since RUclips takes at least two weeks to process 4K HDR video, you can thank me later
DXO-Photolab 8 Elite is what we use.... Love it... I wish they came out with a stacking add-on, it would be perfect for me... It's on sale right now for Black Friday.. Buy it once and upgrade occasionally if you want...No monthly subscription... I've head Luminar Neo is good too but I've never tried it...
You guys were so misled and disappointed by the rumors for all the new cameras -- maybe you can rate the rumor sites for 2024! Give them each a score based on hits vs misses. You might make some enemies, but hey, you'll get excitement, controversy, action!
I think the most exciting innovations coming out right now are the RUclips creators who find ways to inspire us amateur photographers to try out new skills, go to new places, and get better at different genres of photography. Especially as AI seems to be intruding so much into photography, finding new ways to enjoy actual/real photography seems to be the biggest innovation, and one that will keep people enjoying the gear they have as they work on new skills and challenges. How many of us actually suffer because a particular generation of camera now is only "a little better" than the last one?
The downloading speed of any camera consists of the card that you are using. My Canon EOS 90D uses a card that reads a 260 but writes a 300 I have no problem with putting my images off my camera.
Nikon and M43 user here. Slim pickings for m43 this year. The OM1 mark II was just a modest upgrade. I still use the mark I. It's more than good enough. If 20MP was an issue, I'd go for the G9II, but it's not an issue. The lack of true mid and entry-level cameras is disappointing, Panny and Oly used to release those nearly every year. Nikon was busier this year, but none of their offerings really interest me. I still use a Z6 mark I. No interest in APSC. I mourn the death of the Z7 line.
The Panasonic S9 (with the 18-40mm lens) is probably the camera which most interested me. A very compact and capable full-frame (or aps-c) camera with small quality lenses is what I'd most be likely to buy, for when I don't want to carry my big camera around. I still wish they'd put the AF from the S9 into a new micro 4/3rds though.
I have fond memories of my 1980’s era Kodak Instamatic 110 that I bought to document my travels in the US Navy aboard aircraft carriers. I was only 17 when I joined and I knew absolutely nothing about cameras, but I still have all the photos and negatives of exotic places. Even though they are terrible quality, who cares? It got the job done and gives me the warm fuzzies of a better era! I do love my Canon R50 nowadays, nonetheless!
Did you see the Oppo X8? I saw it on a shopping center last week, and I was amazed by the heavy camera advertising they're doing. I don't have professional tools to test their claims, but the pictures look pretty good!
I'm a little behind but bought the Canon R8 from last year after watching some videos including yours. I like it, but am baffled by the auto focus on my first day of shooting. I just want to turn it off, and have focus lock when pointing at the subject and half pressing the shutter then reframe as I always did. But no doubt this is a very old way of taking photos?
From what I gather Canon’s AI upscaling does not outputs RAW files, just jpegs, which makes it useless. Just use an app like Topaz Gigapixel or Light Room’s super resolution instead. Most likely will do a much better job.
Great video!! My biggest mistake (like you Chelsea): I sold my X100V in anticipation of getting an X100VI (and still waiting). Plus I am waiting for maybe, someday, for Lumix to come out with a successor to the S1R (or higher res S5). It's been a very underwhelming year, except for the newly announced Fujifilm 16-55mm f/2.8 II. The original was too large for something like an X-T5.
Nikon Z6iii AF is vastly better than the Z6ii according to Jared Polin - Fro Knows Photo. He says it is superior to Sony A7iv. Also, Nikon new Firmware updates are very good!! Bird Mode and Product mode for new Nikon Z50ii work really well in demos shown on RUclips (Product Mode snaps AF on product when placed in front of camera very fast, then snaps back to face/eye fast when product is removed. Bird mode sticks to Birds eye very well shown in YT demos, however mostly when bird is a bit larger in frame with a long lens while on a branch. BIF in flight, it just grabs the whole bird not the eye). I would imagine these modes is just a firmware update away for the Z6iii, unless it has it already. (Tony, how about doing a focus test between Z6iii and Sony A7iv to be sure, and compare to Jared evaluation?)
Guys I love what you do, but this came off as a bit jaded. To me this was a very interesting year in the industry and a positive one because for the first time in a while sales are starting to rise again. This was a year that Nikon and Panasonic started learning from Fuji, by bringing retro looks, downloadable LUTs and high quality B&W shooting in their products: putting the shooting experience more front and centre. This was also a year of some truly spectacular new lenses, including the rise for the first time of a genuinely high quality Chinese lens manufacturer in Viltrox. We are finally moving past the technical specification era of photography and with a new and expanding the community of photographers who care more about form factor, looks, and experience. New cameras are getting more expensive by the circular economy is booming and second hand kit is more popular than ever. Lots of positives and lots to be excited about in the year to come, even if the traditional manufacturers have not had their most imaginative year
Hmm, my favorite photography YT couple, did not remark on the new 2024 OM System 150-600mm f/5-6.3 IS Lens that came out this year! What is up with that?
What I want to know is, why isn’t Nikon going into Medium Format!! Holy smokes, it is getting to the time when you couldn’t possibly take a photo with a 20.9 MP sensor but there is no move to bigger pixel counts either. We’re definitely heading towards a MP bottleneck and need something original like a 24 MP medium format that has pixels so large it takes pictures in the dark … hand held. For the record, my camera is a now old Nikon D7500 with a 20.9 MP sensor and I think it is still a great camera taking beautiful shots but what about a new camera that inspires me to cough up some more cash in Nikon’s favour! Little incremental changes, that you may not use anyway, just extend the usability of your old gear. Cheers
This is probably counter intuitive, but other than Adobe, who I despised for years, I'm very happy and grateful for all the choices I have now. The features, while incremental enhancements, are amazing. AF is a total game changer from the days of film. We have sooooooo many great choices and options for equipment and software, it's hard to be unhappy with anything other than Adobe selling creatives down the river for their crappy subscriptions and AI.
Huh, the Sony 28-70 f/2.0 GM didn't get a mention. This was clearly filmed before that announcement. That is the most exciting unnecessary lens for Sony. Something you know you don't need (a 24-70 f/2.8 is more practical), yet you really, really want.
I have been able tp shoot on the R! and R5 II the R1 is simply amazing especially if your a working sports or wildlife photographer and I would personally say the R5 !! Is much better than the R5 which was great and is now my back up camera,, and if your aa video shooter, C-Log 2 is a a major upgrade. It take your video to another level, and I too just received the RF 200-800 and am vey impressed with this lens as well, Ill be happy for another 5 years now especially knowing I wont need to be spending any money on cameras or lenses for quite a few years
PREACH! GPS in the camera and how about fast AirDrop support for quick and easy transfer to iPhones are high on my wish list and no one is doing it. I did pre-order the A1 II and think it is a pretty big set of updates most of which required new hardware so it is fair to package in a new camera AI AF, A9 III body including a good monitor screen. Precapture was high on my list and I am not a Sony engineer so I can't tell you it could or could not have been done through firmware in the A1 but it is in the A1 II and I sold an A1 to help fund the pre-order.
I would love to see a good altertives to adobe video, I have tried to switch before but always come back Lightroom is the fastest for my workflow atm, especially with the AI masking makes it hard to switch
I feel like a dinosaur nowadays. Still loving dslrs (and sometimes just slr, film). Now that R1…. I still prefer the Eos 1 Dx mark III. AI upscaling? It is like me using a compression belt under a shirt to pretend I am fit.
i know you won't answer and, quite understand. everyone i know that has used the canon r1. loves it. you may not but, i have you talk bad about canon many times. you can tell you are a sony freak. that's ok. i see Chelsea, give you some really weird looks when, you speak bad about canon. i think see loves them. the R1 is meant to do what it was made to do. It is the end of 2024 and a $3000 full frame camera still does not include built in GPS tagging , ANY form of anti-theft protection, or internal storage...Oof.
not only the photo mfg are clumsy with new innovation ,, but the motorcycle industry also are clumsy , they have a hard time making proper dash connecting dashboard ... do they do not want the younger people market ? I guess I don't understand. I am still upset at canon for RFS lens not sharing with 3rd party and offering bad lens. I did get the R7 but boy only RF lens fits.... the other canon RFS lens that I bought are so cheap, why not have 3r party offer better lens a medium range price
No they're great when set up well.... I have the R5 and R7 and prefer the R7 when combined with the RF 200-800 zoom lens ( only for the incredible reach)... The combination gives me 1280mm. effective focal length maxed out... I'm waiting for the R7 Mk 2 , if it's ever released... Some hopeful improvements for long range bird /wildlife photography if they do release a Mk 2...
@@Dobbs65 The R7 got massive shutter shock if you shoot in mechanic shutter. If you want to avoid blurry photos, you need to shoot in electronic or at least electronic first curtain. Then, you will have heavy warping due to rolling shutter. High ISO performance is bad, diffraction kicks in a lot earlier due to an unnecessary high mp sensor and because of that you need very sharp lenses. My biggest issue is the lack of proper lenses. RF-S is literally 4 lenses from canon, otherwise few Sigma without stabilization.
I turned this off because I’m sick and tired of this Nikon’s AF is still not as good as good as Canon and Sony broken record, which many both on here and in the photographic press do not agree is the case. However, Nikon need to put this assertion to bed once and for all, either by means of firmware updates or future bodies. In any case, any differences I’m sure are minuscule and ignores the fact that AF is just one facet of judging a system and certainly for me, in many other areas (ergonomics, lenses, etc) Nikon is class leading.
I started to think today thay spmeone could set up a good camera system at a resonable price by skipping Canon's overpriced extravgance cameras and lenses. For instance, Canon 28 - 70 2.8 instead of f/2, or 85mm f2 instead of 85mm f1.2with no loss of quaility --BAK--

I enjoyed your year in review but I wanted to add that I don't find your audio to be very good. I don't know the technical terms of audio engineering but if it were to continue to degrade along its present lines I would say that your speech is trending towards being "garbled". Essentially the audio lacks the crispness and clarity of face to face conversation. Your videos from years ago did not have this problem.
Thank you for recap '24. I am mostly dissappointed to Canon, designwise. Their cameras still look the same as my trusty olde 500D which I still use occasionally. Heck, even M6 looked better but they dropped lens and camera support. Now happily using Nikon Zfc which I am to be upgrading FX Nikon next year. Also soon to be (hopefully) happy Fujifilm X-M5 owner. Provided reseller gets those cameras into my country... some day. I am happy about Nikon Z6III and Fujifilm X-M5, provided I get one... some day.

Bigger body, flippy screen, faster AF more accurate, more fps, Nlog, 6K record, great colors. Definitely a lot of improvements over the Z6ii.

The Z6iii's AF is WAAAAY better than the Z6ii. Not a little, Jared Polin rates it as superior to the sony A7iv.

The ZF was the highlight for me. It’s a better camera than any of the Fuji retro cameras and the lenses are better quality.

Didn't the Panasonic GH7 merit a mention? That was a much more favorably reviewed camera than the S9. Don't MFT cameras count?

Sony brought out a 16-25mm 2.8, 24-50mm 2.8, 85mm 1.4, 28-70mm, 300mm ...

I guess 2024 was too late for anyone to care that Panasonic added PDAF to the G series. Didn't even merit a "Finally!"

Fuji is the only camera company to go all pro on APS-C and sidestep FF. Clearly, they don’t want to compete with Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Panasonic.

still haven't found anything that compares to the A1, for my needs. Yes, there are a couple of obscure wants, but this is my favorite.
Leica just had the most financially successful year in its history and have a phone app that works fast and perfectly.

You’re not alone. I’m still using an old D800E and a Sony A9 (the original). And to my amazement, they still take great pictures. 😂

i know you won't answer and, quite understand. everyone i know that has used the canon r1. loves it. you may not but, i have you talk bad about canon many times. you can tell you are a sony freak. that's ok. i see Chelsea, give you some really weird looks when, you speak bad about canon. i think see loves them. the R1 is meant to do what it was made to do. FAST!!!. i have not personally used 1 but, i heard is works great

not only the photo mfg are clumsy with new innovation ,, but the motorcycle industry also are clumsy , they have a hard time making proper dash connecting dashboard ... do they do not want the younger people market ? I guess I don't understand. I am still upset at canon for RFS lens not sharing with 3rd party and offering bad lens. I did get the R7 but boy only RF lens fits.... the other canon RFS lens that I bought are so cheap, why not have 3r party offer better lens a medium range price

No they're great when set up well.... I have the R5 and R7 and prefer the R7 when combined with the RF 200-800 zoom lens ( only for the incredible reach)... The combination gives me 1280mm. effective focal length maxed out...
I'm waiting for the R7 Mk 2 , if it's ever released...
Some hopeful improvements for long range bird /wildlife photography if they do release a Mk 2...
@@Dobbs65 The R7 got massive shutter shock if you shoot in mechanic shutter. If you want to avoid blurry photos, you need to shoot in electronic or at least electronic first curtain. Then, you will have heavy warping due to rolling shutter. High ISO performance is bad, diffraction kicks in a lot earlier due to an unnecessary high mp sensor and because of that you need very sharp lenses.
My biggest issue is the lack of proper lenses. RF-S is literally 4 lenses from canon, otherwise few Sigma without stabilization.

I turned this off because I’m sick and tired of this Nikon’s AF is still not as good as good as Canon and Sony broken record, which many both on here and in the photographic press do not agree is the case. However, Nikon need to put this assertion to bed once and for all, either by means of firmware updates or future bodies. In any case, any differences I’m sure are minuscule and ignores the fact that AF is just one facet of judging a system and certainly for me, in many other areas (ergonomics, lenses, etc) Nikon is class leading.
I don’t buy new so no not disappointed at all .

I started to think today thay spmeone could set up a good camera system at a resonable price by skipping Canon's overpriced extravgance cameras and lenses. For instance, Canon 28 - 70 2.8 instead of f/2, or 85mm f2 instead of 85mm f1.2with no loss of quaility --BAK--

I enjoyed your year in review but I wanted to add that I don't find your audio to be very good. I don't know the technical terms of audio engineering but if it were to continue to degrade along its present lines I would say that your speech is trending towards being "garbled". Essentially the audio lacks the crispness and clarity of face to face conversation. Your videos from years ago did not have this problem.
Thank you for recap '24. I am mostly dissappointed to Canon, designwise. Their cameras still look the same as my trusty olde 500D which I still use occasionally. Heck, even M6 looked better but they dropped lens and camera support. Now happily using Nikon Zfc which I am to be upgrading FX Nikon next year. Also soon to be (hopefully) happy Fujifilm X-M5 owner. Provided reseller gets those cameras into my country... some day. I am happy about Nikon Z6III and Fujifilm X-M5, provided I get one... some day.
Funny you mention Canon's design. I don't like the EVF housing rounded shape. I wouldn't get a Canon based just on that. But it's just me.
