I currently own a Canon M50 and have been considering upgrading to the R8 for my first full frame camera. I was considering the R6II but as a hobby I cannot justify the additional expense over the R8.
Could always grab a second hand R or RP, or maybe R6. I've actually decided to switch to Nikon for mirrorless since lenses aren't completely interchangeable anyways. Better built with metal and pro features like dual slots in the cheapest model while the R with the 30mp sensor still only had a single slot

Good choice R8 is awesome, great picture quality, very good auto focus and its small and light, great for travel. Same sensor as R6ii but it's smaller and lighter, so easier to carry around.
You made me feel way better about a Camera I already use.
Colours of this camera in video much more pleasant than in FUJIFILM apsc cameras.... I want trade xt3 to this

Ok two things, first I liked your video quite a bit. Second, do not recommend 3rd party batteries for any camera. Results may vary but if its poorly made it can spell disaster for any camera.
They are good to have as an emergency backup. Look at reviews before purchasing.
the only bad things about 3rd larty battery..it will die without warning & no indicator at all
Aftermarket batteries can work better than OEM.
Been shooting for a couple decades with 3rd batteries and the only issue I have had is with snobs turning their noses up at them. Keep shelling out the $$$$ for branded batteries that are literally made in the same factory as the 3rd party ones.
I’m torn I watched your video on the Sony zv e1 and this one great reviews. But now that watched this one I’m leaning toward the R8 because I think you are saying it has better photo and video. Right? Which would you recommend.
You absolutely can charge the battery via USB-C. You just need to use a USB-C PD (Power Delivery) charger. It’s game changing not having to lug a separate charger around on holidays, outings etc. (I just use my laptop / travel GAN charger).
Thank you for this. I need a 4k 60fps for real estate videos. Can I just turn off after 30 mins and start again or is this an overheating issue?
I’m in between zve10 II, canon r8 or lumix s9? Which one you recommend?… I want some that’s good for photo and video(I do short films) but also a beginner but I want to start with top quality, I currently have a osmo pocket 3…
it has overheating issue when shooting outdoor n shoot 4k 60fps all the way..shooting at 1080p 60fps is recomended unless you have a lot of extra battery i shot 4k 60fps with R8 i have 3 original batteries..it should be no problem

I bought R8 with RF 28-70 F2 and adore this combo. I mostly shoot whimsical portraits in low light while elated on ethanol-containing cocktails in bars and restaurants. The only reason to move to another camera would be better low light performance, but right now there's nothing in full frame realm that is noticeably better. Thinking of moving to medium format, but what I really want is the next gen of sensors for Canon, so I can keep my glass but get even lower high ISO noise.
I would wait and see what they put out this summer
The 28-70 is so comically large and the R8 is so comically small that put together is such a wild experience haha. What a time to be a photographer. Wish they put more IS in the RF lenses they're releasing it's driving me crazy.
Will this be good to buy first full frame camera? I was shooting with T5 rebel but focus sucked, no flip screen no record focus on zoom, was old camera and crop sensor. Thinking to step up for personal use, travel, run and gun with no fancy crazy gear, wonder what you guys think? Thanks all!

The Canon eg-e1 grip extender fits perfectly on the R8 and matches all of its body and trim lines. It's one of my favorite accessories for the R8.
mine is coming in the mail today, can't wait to try it out .

As an owner for over 6months, coming to learn something about the camera I didnt know before, i am mildly disappointed. Nothing wrong with your points but they are very spec reading rather than in depth analysis of camera.
How long does the Canon R8 battery last when shooting FHD video?

Deciding between this and a6700 for travel, sports, documentary video and some photo. Typically like canon color but better log profile on Sony. But better skintones on canon? Dehancer for both? Not sure where to go
I think the sony a6700 might be better if you want to make cinematic stuff and plan to do heavy color grading. Dehancer is a great tool.

Crop factor with electronic stabilisation?
EOS r8. Forgot to mention that little red button on top near the shutter button. It instantly puts r8 into video providing excellent video and audio quality. 😅
it record only in a specific lower quality mode.
If this is Low quality , I can’t wait to test higher quality. It looks superb when we build it on a large screen and the sound was spectacular.
I’m sure Canon made a mistake when they released the R8. A number of us complained for years that they the R6 pro II had so many Pro features that we didn’t need or want . We needed a lightweight camera for hiking the backcountry. But it had many high quality features that a mistake was made to include so many features that other companies are planning for 2024. I still can’t find the mechanical shutter. This leads me to believe that it hasn’t one. Even all shutter speeds produce excellent low noise results. One overriding feature is while it auto mode for the camera and flash even side lit and back lit photos are properly exposed. The software is definitely pro quality.

@@thetraveldelitesCanon R8 auto focus is comparable to Sony a7iv, a7c.. It is the same which is used in canon higher end models.
Real time sticky Af tracking is not available in a73, also no AI like Sony a7iv. But canon r8 is new and comparable to Sony a7iv.
With Sony, you will have cheap to top level lens options, where canon is handicapped. Please check some lens availability in rf mount other than kit. You will stay happier in Sony eco system, where as canon body is OK, but as a system it is still laking.

First week Using the R8 the Canon 100 - 400 MM Zoom USM starting to get some decent Wildlife photography I still don't notice any improvement over my 60D so far however battery situation is unacceptable no low battery warning after 40 shots large bear came into view Big Red Letters little battery for another shot

My R8's temp light started blinking while shooting stills outside at a park when it was about 98 degrees. I turned off the camera before it shut down and it was fine in a few minutes.

wow, they have not done the different raw sized since the dslr days. I think because cards are bigger and faster its all the same in terms of data handling

Canon R6 versus Canon R8. Where is the catch ? : lack of in-body stabilization on the R8. This could be a MAJOR disadvantage for videographers
Dude lol the price difference is nuts. Why bother asking? Nothing you can do with R6 that the R8 can’t do for you, for a lot less.

during blackfriday the price of canon R6 is a bit higher to canon R8, in this case which one is better ?
R6 is in bigger form factor with excellent in-body image stabilization and dual sd card slots.
R8 is newer and has the same sensor as R6 Mark ii. It’s smaller but lack in-body IS and only have one sd card slot. The LP-E17 battery kinda suck as well.
If you’re a pro that need two slots then go for R6 otherwise R8 is an excellent choice for enthusiasts or semi-pro.

Both are really good. But the R8 is full frame and it downsamples from 6k in all 4k modes.

None of these generic specs really make it better or worse than any other camera body on the market right now. It comes in middle of the pack and really lack-luster in so many areas.
