Lidl 5 blade razor review, shave review, Cein Shark Home Brand. Because a viewer asked me too.

  • I was asked repeatedly by a viewer cariza5 to review the Lidl 5 bladed cien shark razor. I had suggested watching the Harry's razor review, but he wanted it specifically (not sure why as they are virtually the same thing).
    I did however put to one side my scheduled list of next items for him and pulled it out of my collection draws to film and comment speciffically on this razor.
    This is not a bad razor, it is just unfortunate that there are so many better ones already on the market. I think the biggest issue is the bendy technology they employ to get the flex.

    They are brilliant blades. I have been using them for the past few months in place of the ridiculously expensive main brand blades, and I am getting the best shave ever. Why do you use so little lubricant on your face? You say there is some tugging, but it looks like you are actually shaving a dry face.

    New (ish) Lidl Razor cien dynamic 5 pro is pretty good - prefer it to the lidl 3 and 5 blades - might be better than the Gillette Fusion still thinking about that, Hope you do a review at some point.

      It has been quite a while since I have done any reviews, I have not been into Lidl for ages, I have not seen the dynamic but I bet its the Edgwell one that is black with an orange ball. I called it the dynashave and even registered then name as a trademark 🤣🤣

      Richiesmoove Fusion is the well known market brand, which is why it is always near the bottom of my list. Unless it is something revolutionary like the TREO, but they did not send me one. I will add it to the list but I am concentrating on the alternatives given the Fussion is already the clear leader.
      Next razor set are those from Defender Razors which are the same as those used with Boldking

  • @lopes3955
    @lopes3955 6 лет назад +1

    I also own this shave system and I prefer the cien perfekt 3. Much better shave then the shark. The shark is agressive and prone to razor burn.

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  6 лет назад

      lopes3955 the 3 blade does not appear to be available in the UK, but is in other countries. It is the same as the micro toughblade which I hav3 also reviewed, and yes it is also better. It's the rubber flex hinge on the shark that is the problem i think. Too mich pressure etc.

    Just to check- these are the exact same blades that you would receive in the Harry's subscription box? I don't know much about production but was just wondering whether they might give Cien a cheaper cost/quality blade (I'm sure that question is naive!) basically i.e. did you notice a slightly better quality shave or more longevity with the blades from the harrys box over the cien?

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  6 лет назад +1

      Grinding razor blades is a difficult and a very precise process, with many processes. As far as I am aware the metal of the blades is the same production technique. Despite this difficulty the volumes make them extremely cheap to produce, but changing to smaller batch quantities would increase this per unit cost. The injection moulding is slightly different to ensure that they are not totally compatible with the handle, and you can see this in the review for the Harry's product. This is all to the best of my knowledge from the information I can find.The blades I found no significant difference in their performance or longevity when I tested them.I do prefer the Shark handle

    • @chrisgreenuk
      @chrisgreenuk 6 лет назад +1

      I can confirm that the Cien 5 Shark blade cartridges won’t fit the Harry’s handle. While both handles have exactly the same attachment fitting, the release collar on the Harry’s handle and the Harry’s blade cartridge have a curved edge where they meet. The Cien 5 handle release collar and blade cartridge are straight at the point where they meet. It’s a very subtle shape difference, but it’s just enough to stop the Cien 5 cartridge from clipping into place on the Harry’s handle.
      It’s encouraging to read that both blades seem to perform exactly the same. In side-by-side comparison, it seems to me that the flexing material on the Harry’s blade cartridge is a bit softer than the Cien 5, allowing the Harry’s razor to bend more freely. Curious to know if you noticed the same?

    • @ImiDzs97
      @ImiDzs97 6 лет назад

      Thank you guys for your replies! I have since had a couple more questions if thats alright?
      Whats better the KOS 5 Blade or Retro 4 razor (I see their subscription service is actually surprisingly cheap and you have previously recommended them)
      Are (either of) the KOS blades better than own brand? As you seem to like the own brand blades is it worth paying the extra for KOS ones?
      Lastly have you ever tried sharpening your cartridge razor using denim jeans or a leather strop? Have seen videos saying the method can make them last for months but wondering whether thats a myth- might be a good video idea to get blunt blades and see if its possible!

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  6 лет назад

      I am afraid I did not notice any noticeable difference between the two, but an amendment to the resin formula use in the injection moulding could result in what you have said, and they are different colours so the formula is certainly slightly different (white and grey).

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  6 лет назад +1

      Hi,
      yes I have a video on how to sharpen / strop the razors.
      King of shaves even made me my own razor which puts the KOS5 head on the Retro 4 handle (# Unique), I would suggest you watch these two videos to see my thoughts on them.
      You may notice I like to point out alternatives, I put these in the videos. There are actually on a handful of manufacturers of the blades and many that you think are independent are home branding the blades of another (cough cough Cornerstone, Sterling Shave Club, Dollar Shave Club etc). With regards to the KOS5 these are not available anywhere on the high-street that I know of.
      Hope this helps

  • @SkinBoss
    @SkinBoss 5 лет назад +5

    Ahhh it makes sense now ... German engineering perhaps? A razor should be a razor right? Wrong! In terms of quality - (I've tried many, many brands) I rate Lidl's Shark razor high up there on equal footing with the "Harry's razor, followed by BiC's new 5 blade. Agree with you about the Harry's handle being slippery (despite the aesthetics), it's a little bit delicate and when compared to Lidl's Shark, the almost tread-like grip it has (which you do need).
    The worst offender has to be Gillette's fusion, hyped, poor-quality blade in terms of cut, wears out very quickly and expensive to refill. Fusion has to be one of the biggest rip-off's in the men's grooming market. I can't even use it. Bic surprise me, there re-usable 5-blade (as offered in their shave club) is remarkably durable, lasts longer than it's counterparts but a company that pretty much only seems to make those horrid disposable plastic disposable (prison!) razors, orange "biro" pens and occasionally lighters!
    off down to Lidl to get some shark refills!

    My biggest issue with the Harry's blade is the design. It feels like shaving with a boat paddle and no matter how hard I pressed the blade to my skin, I couldn't get any pressure out of the damn thing. It has too much flex, which results in a horrible shave.

    Why have they stopped doing this razor and it's blades now

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  2 года назад +1

      This is because Harry's bought the manufacturing plant, and it basically uses the same head as their main n razor. So to allow for their higher price point they pulled these home brand models, and Edgewell took advantage and got their razor in store.

    What a mistake. I have rarely cut myself with a Gillette razor but I cut myself very easily with this 5 blade budget razor. I had to use my electric razor untill my scars healed.
