- Shave review of the new 5 blade razor available from Aldi.
Amazing value at only £3.79. One of the Edgewell cartridges, like those used on Bulldog Razor, Shavekit and other home brands
Lovely to see you back !! Missed your videos and love the colours on the razor 😁
Thanks, appreciate the kind words x
Great review as always. Glad to see you're still "keeping your hand in" and doing some reviews. 😎😎
Thanks. It appears my subscribers have been egging me on by telling me of new products
Finally got round to trying this razor for a head shave and really impressed, just glides over the head 👍
Just purchased for the same reason 👍🏻
@@hosephanerothe1440 any good?
Great review and hurray for ALDI! That grommet means the Caliber 5 head will fit on the old Magnum handle which was the previous ALDI 5 blade.
Same with the Superdrug disposables are Caliber 5 with the Magnum compatible grommet.
And you can easily pop the grommet off so they'll fit on Lidl and Boots GT5/Caliber/Quattro handles!
I love your videos so please keep on shaving!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I was supposed to have stopped, but I just can not stop being a Geek. My LinkedIn is much worse as I give analysis on the shave clubs account.
Geek Of Shaves yes there’s no stopping the shaving!! I spent literally £1000s on vintage DEs and SEs - now I’ve switched to carts it’s already going the same way :)
Just got an original Sensor Excel too.
@@marcusjclark nice!, what's your favourite cartridge so far?
Geek Of Shaves Good question! I like the Feather F3 best for looks but to be honest I’ve become a real fan of the Bic Flex series. They really do things with style and the shave is a bit more aggressive which suits me.
@@marcusjclark I do like the BIC Flex 3 Comfort.
been using alidi 3 blade for years that were perfectly adequet but the last time I visited the shop I could'nt find any so had to purchase the new style.and to be honest didn't
find a lot of differance in the shave and I find the new handle difficult to grip in cetain shaving positions.I note from the vidio he shows how the blade fits so I think I will trand see if my old handle fits
Review v. useful. Been waiting for you to do this. Thanks. I've had some real problems with this. You're right about long strokes, otherwise it shredded my scalp to ribbons. Shaved my baldy 3 times, even long strokes, and I find the blades TOO SHARP! Even the edge trimmer. I much prefer the flip-top edgers like Hydro 5 and Tesco 5 blade.
The hydro 5 is a nice product,
Just bought one, the back blade looks like it would shred my face! Not going near that but the rest of the razor looks ok. Will try it out later, am sick of gillette's prices
Great shaving action and result. The blades do not go bad as fast. Handle is heavy, which I like. I like it better than the big guys.
Any ALDI local to me only carry the Lacura disposables
Also, hope things are working out well for you and this virus stuff. Always look forward to your videos! Stay safe buddy
Hi, in which country are Edgewell blades made? Which blade is better between the Lidl and Aldi 5-blade razor?
How does this compare to Wilkinson sword hydro 5?
These are fantastic guys
Great review *G o S*
Looks like Aldi are winners again.
I thought you _always_ used the Palmolive shave stick?
That was a good spot. I would normally, unfortunatly I had run out and my local shop has stopped selling it. So I decided to go for a similar type product in the Nivea shave stick.
@@GeekOfShaves I notice Wilko & Tesco don't seem to have it anymore.
It was 50p.
I bought one from Superdrug recently for 75p, still cheap _but_ technically 50% more than I am used to! 🙄
At either price I can take a stick with a couple of disposable Bics on a trip and not worry about forgetting them.
Like you, I didn't bother with a shave brush so it all takes up little room & weight in a travel bag.
The replacement blades are £4.99 for just four, a rip off considering the previous ones were either £2.99 for four or £3.79 for four, Lidl five blade replacement heads are still £2.99 for four.
You know your stuff. It is still however lower than at other places. Lidle at £2.99 seems to be an amazing price currently
Hi again GoS - do any other handles fit these cartridges ?
Not in the uk. Although if you have a 3d printer you can make one, as the handle is litterally just a holder with no moving parts really to make the blade move (I call it the actuator motion of the blade returning to the start position).
There is a really nice looking one that I think fits sold by the Chinese company Q-Shave it has a yellow handle and a funky razor stand, it looks like they have tried to copy the Bolin Web to me
@@GeekOfShaves I have a Clean Shaven handle from about a year ago and they fit onto that. Do enjoy your videos. BTW have you ever tried shaving oil I find it makes shaving much easier and less painful?
Which blades do you rate more? Aldis or lidls?
Ii prefer the GT5 used by lidl over the M5 used by Aldi
Who luvs ya baby great demo 👍🏻 great price 🤗
You do 😉
Thanks mate, much appreciated. Edgewell seem to bring out or play around/alter their razor's every couple of month's it seems lol.
Yes, and now they have even more to do this with after purchasing Harry's
@@GeekOfShaves I know that you are not keen on Dorco Pace 6 blade but would you ever review the Dorco Pace 7.I think that it looks as if it isn't officially available in UK but you can buy it on Ebay?
@@raymondmain3796 I will think about it. It's on their website under the name classic I believe
@@GeekOfShaves Yes wouldn't mind trying it but price puts me off. What about trying Xtreme 3 Ultra Flex with the pivot action, £2.50 for three in Tesco just now?
@@raymondmain3796 thanks for the spot, had seen it in America but not in the UK. Will find a larger Tesco to try
Cheers man. I've just used Gillette for donkey years and was sick of the price. Picked one of these up, tried it and im well happy with even with my sensitive skin. Also i didnt know that 1 company made the calibre 5 blades for many.
There are only 7 - 8 Manufacturers of Cartridge-Razorblades *worldwide* and 3 of them are very little compared to the Big Ones
Bought this last week. They are still selling them. Was pleasantly suprised for the money. Always used Gillette but sick of the price of blades and of course they went woke aswel. So HAPPY to change to this. The Gillette is slighty better but not so much better its worth the price they are asking. One issue is the back blade is crap.
And the “Schick “ Xtreme 5......YEAH NIVEA MEN!!!.... I had to lol nice review as usual
I can not use this one without thinking of you
Geek Of Shaves I know..,such a horrible thing...handsomely beaten up man I am
Hi, thanks for your response.
Will give it a twirl
The razor handle I talked about is this one used as a DynaShave in the following link.
Of course I dont need to buy any blades at the moment from a supermarket as I have literally a life time supplies of the 3 blades listed which are my favourite, bu seem to have been discontinued from supermarkets (but is here, and amazon, and a company called shavekit)
www.cabp.co.uk/Accessories/Builders-Blades.htm
Does it survive a drop test.? The old aldi shaver always broke if dropped and of course that was always when you had put a new blade head in.
I do not tend to drop them, but when I have normally the head pops off, but then its a simple case of just putting it back on again
Yes, best not to drop but I shave in the shower with wet hands and have dropped them, invariably I have found they break making them unusable. Any how on your recommendation I have invested in this new model, to my surprise I found the previous model heads fit this hand piece. Cheers.
@@nigelmitchell351 all I can say is I am confused, would be nice to see the 2 handles in a photo. I have recently reactivated an old Twitter account which would make such things easier. @GeekOfShaves
I have started using this razor and find it very bulky large head, won't be buying again,. I find that a smaller head like Lidl's personna GT5 gives a smoother shave gets in to all the nooks and crannies?
It's good to hear your views on this different products.
So I guess you will get your razors from Lidl then for the GT5
@@GeekOfShaves Yes but what worries me is that they will discontinue it as it seems like Edgewell are phasing it out and replacing with this Hydro 5 Connect head razor that you reviewed from Wilko, Tesco & and Asda have the same razor as there home brand. I have one and going to try next, any good overall would you say, just not willing to pay Gillette asking price's?
Hi, can you advise which of the reasonably priced razors give best longevity. I find that Mach 3 last no time now.
Thanks
That is difficult. Me spending my own money would most likely result in the Lidl razor using the GT5 blades that then fit on my own special handle that has a flexible head that rotates as well as pivots. However if I use an oil the blades dull quickly, but if I use a soap they last longer.
wow...this guy shaves faster than a fire alarm! 😂😂😂😂
Thanks, I think 🤔
Good.use brush.it super shave cream!
Please get a Bowl and a Brush for shaving soaps - creams and branch out into DE Shaving. :)
Me too its much better in my opinion!
Aldi are taking over the world in my house
mine too! Only shop at Aldi these days
Yes I'm a woman but always have used mens razors as the ones for women are awful, so bloomin tuggy, I have used a Wilkinson Sword for years but blade prices are extortionate. I've just bought one of these to try, £3.79 isnt a bad loss if it turns out to be rubbish. Watching this gives me hope lol. Good vid, thanks
The one in Lidl use the same range of heads as is used on Friction Free Shaving at a fraction of the price.
Tell you what, message me on twitter or my Facebook page and I will send you a razor for free that I like and have lots off.
@@GeekOfShaves oh wow thanks. I'll check out your facebook
I love your videos, and I hope that you continue them even if they're not reviews. I agree that Caliber 3 head is superior shave experience to the Caliber 5. Schick recently cloned the Caliber 5 head on Xtreme 5 too.
They have indeed used it in America in conjunction with their flexible handle (but not here in the UK, although I do have both lol)
@@GeekOfShaves Lol gotta love online shopping. I sometimes can find Wilkinson Sword carts cheaper online than Schick and have them shipped over to the states
@@avalonjustice that is some dedication to searching. It always sounds like the USA are so much more expensive than other parts of the world
The head looks like the one Amazon's own razor has
Good spot, yes it's the Calibre 5 cartridge and you can take the plastic off these so it fits that handle 😉
Not good razer.does not get in small places not a bad price but going back to Gillette. I think the problem is head is too big.
Did you try the back blade? There are others o could suggest if you like, bit Gillette do make great razors, hence they are market leader
@@GeekOfShaves tried always with this razer it not up to it.but for time I've been using it once blade's are used cheap shaving
@@geoffreyallonby4936 what is nice is to see you trying new things. Even if just to confirm what you have is best for you
