    The Lidl Shark / Cien Razor you have, please can you do a shave with it and put it on RUclips, please grow a bit of a stubble for that shave, the same amount of stubble you had when you did the Palmolive shave soap review, I have to say, Gillette make the best cartridge blades, would you agree.
    Also how often do you shave and how long does one of those Palmolive shave sticks last you for also do you have a shaving brush.

      That is a lot of questions.
      I had not intended to do the Shark razor as I think it is the same and I have a lot of razors, including 2 new ones just in from America. However as you have asked I will try to do that one next (unless my daughter makes me do another can you shave with it next lol).
      The soap lasts me MONTHS. Although at the moment I am testing different shave preps for videos so it will last longer, also i used to shave every day, but I am not trying to miss days so the growth is longer for the camera (2-3 days shows well).
      I used to think Mach 3 was the best, now I do not and wont shave with a Gillette or Fussion (have never really liked Fussion, but my friend who trys all the razors I have with the spare cartridges will not use anything else for his face, he uses Hydro 5 for another region).
      Gillette even did and advert campaign to say that every mans face is different and so you need different types of razors to suit, thats why they do so many variants of Mach3 and Fussion (Not sure how good an idea that campaign really was).
      I do have a shaving brush, but I do not use it. I find I do not need it, I also feel I rub it in better with my hands. I think people get side tracked by the visual of the foam / lather, that is its side effect and not what makes the product work. Ideally the a science says you need the hair to absorb as much liquid and hydrate (foamy air is not good for that) the hydrated hair is fuller and softer and so will cut easier (less dense) . You also need it to lubricate the skin and the blades to slide / glide over the skin so it does not scratch it to give you burn. Soap and some gels are also good for killing germs and bacteria to help stop infections even if minor that cause a skin irritation. I hate to say it, but I have found many good shave preps, but nothing yet that I think beats that soap stick (although I hold out hope).

You clearly spend more time on the video production with you splicing and effects, I have gone for the more natural effect with shooting straight from the phone and uploading it. I've used Harry's now for a month now and I usually shave in the bath to save time and I have noticed my new blade has rusted after just one use. I like the shave but wondered if anyone else was having the same issue.

    I've been shaving with the Harry's Winston for about 2 weeks and I'm ready to throw it in the garbage. It doesn't compare to my Gillette Fusion. The blades might be 50% cheaper but they don't last nowhere near as long. With Harry's, you only get half of a stroke before your forced to wash the blade out and the moisture bar only lasted for 2 shaves. It's also a pain to shave the stubble around your mustache area because of the flimsy design.

      Christian Dyers Thanks for the comment, its great to hear other people feedback. I have reviewed quiet a number as you can see from my videos. I have a few favourites including, why not try the the DynaShave it has a 3D flex head and is an Edgewell home brand product. It is my go to razor at the moment, especially for my head shaving.

    I had the same problem with the trial size gel that they sent me, must have been a bad one. I bought the full size can and it’s the best shaving gel on the market in my opinion. It does lather up once you apply it but it’s slick, moisturizing, and is just awesome.

  • @quatie
    @quatie 4 года назад

    Can you get the cheaper blades online anywhere?

  • @TheJosephPrice
    @TheJosephPrice 6 лет назад

    They call it a shave gel as it comes out as gel and then turns into foam as you’re lathering it across your face. Maybe the can you had was slightly defective, but it’s always come out as gel for me.

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  6 лет назад

      Joseph Price I was very surprised, as you can see from the video it came out as a foam which is why I comment on it. I would have expected the gel out of the can and then to lather it as you describe. I assume you are right about the defective item then, but this os then not a good testiment to quality control on manufacture.
      Are you enjoying the overall experience?.

    Can you test out Clean Shaven new heads and handle. To be honest I had mine a week ago and for the life of me I cannot use the trimmer blade. I’ve been using fusion blades for years and now use that still for trimming. I may have a bad batch but I thought if you did it and found the same result it would inform more people than I could.

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  5 лет назад

      Thank you for the suggestion. I had their old system, and to be honest I never tried the reverse trimmer as I do not need it. My friend who also tests but does not do videos uses the back blades and he finds none of them work very well apart from the Fusion, but he also like the hydro5 as the flip head works like one (also see my review of the Wilko home brand)

    I’ve been using the Harry’s blades on the Winston handle for a couple of months now and they simply don’t last long the blades. I shave once a week and go through 2 blades a month plus like the video the blades clog up no matter how much you rinse the blades.
    I’ve used Gillette for years and have to say they are the best and really only switched to Harry’s because of the price.

      RICKY VLOGS Thanks for the comments, please have a look at my other videos, there are quite a lot of good razors out there that are easy on the pocket as well as the face. I used to be a Mach 3 devout user, nothing else would do, but my views have changed after trying all these and I am afraid that I am unlikely to go back given the range of great products available at sensible prices.

      MY HOW 2 Thank you for the advice. I have watched your reviews and they are very good and one razor I am contemplating getting is the Dorco Pace 6 Plus and wanted to know your thoughts if this is worth while purchasing as the prices are very good obviously compared to Gillette.

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  6 лет назад +1

      RICKY VLOGS i actually like the Dorco 3 blade. It is the home brand i Sainsbury (so os the 6 that you are looking for). Dollar Shave Club use the pace 6 and have just launched in the UK. My packet is still in the post on its way to me for me to then review. Dorco have a common docking system and 3 different handles depending on what number of blades you buy originally. I find the actual handle makes a difference you would not expect. I used the same head on the 3 different handlea and thoughts differently towards the product depending on the handle. The handle on the pace 6 by the way i liked. Also it appears Aldi havr been changing from Edgewell 3 & 5 blades and moving to Dorco 4 and 6 blades. But stocks in the stores seem badly managed, but Sainsbury's have been quiet consistent. (Yes every time i am in a supermarket I check because I am sad and to the disgust of my daughter 😂🤣)

    I just shaved with the Harry's Razor today. I really wanted it to do well because the shaving gel and the Original brand green Truman handle looks great BUT the blade is unfortunately not good & I have cancelled the subscription and ordered from Cornerstone (hope thats better).

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  3 года назад

      I take it you have not seen my videos on Cornerstone? You can get the same GT5 blades made by Edgewell from Lidl supermarket. £3.49 for 4 from Lidl instead of £14 for 6 from Cornerstone.
      Also they lost over £8m over the years and have phenoxied moving the assets of brand etc from Cornerstone Brands Ltd over to CSTT Ltd.
      The blades actually work out more than either Gillette or Wilkinson Sword, and if you check the reviews many people slate the sloippy handle.
      Sorry of this was lot the response you would have expected (oh and Shavekit are also massively over priced and check their reviews).

    Just shows how much people are being conned nowadays when they have to belong to a razor buying club to be able to afford the blades. I went on to double edged safety razors because I grudged the prices of the unnecessary 5 bladed cartridges. I finally learned how to use a DE razor. I’d used them in the 1970s but always had those little cuts known as weepers at the end of every shave. Now I don’t get any weepers or rash, just comfortable shaves. Warm soapy lather is better than foam. Take your time lathering to give the soap time to soften the beard. I scratch it into the beard to get it down to the roots. Always shave with the grain first. You may have to find how your grain grows. Let the weight of the razor do the work. Don’t put weight on it. That, and not stretching the skin, is how you get weepers and rash. I also have straight razors, aka cut throat razors and they can give really comfortable shaves. Although you can get shavette razors which are like cut throat razors but with double edged blades halved in two into a holder, real straight razors are more forgiving and comfortable on the skin though. I try not to leave it too long between shaves because it drags a bit if the bristles are too long.

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  6 лет назад +1

      JAZZ MAN great comment. I struggle with DE and straight razors but agree with many of your points (especialy the soap and the foam being no good).
      I have focused on cartridge razors as they do make shaving easy, and it was the dawn of the shave clubs that started me on these reviews.
      Nearly all clubs are overcharging in the UK (and still losing money hand over fist) with the same razors available on the highstreet for less, as shown in this video also.
      My most recent video due to be uploaded tonight is of shaving with a Soap and a cheap cartridge razor. This is because someone on another video has asked me to start comparing the shaving preps.
      The combination I review of the soap and cheap razor is one I use out of choice in everyday life often as it is so good (still love the DynaShave though as best all rounder at reasonable cost, including head shaves).
      I recon I could shave all year with soap and the cheap cartridge blades video to be uploaded for well under £10 with this combonation perhaps at a real stretch £5 if I push the cartridges to two weeks as I have done sonetimes in the past. But i dont need to.
      Look forward to more videos of shave prep and I have been suggested to do some "Can I Shave With It?" in the spirit of a silly DSC article suggesting avocado instead of a cream/gel/soap.
      I welcome and suggested products to use as a prep to test 🤣😂

    They are calling it a shave gel as people perceive it to be better than foam and therefore can charge more. Harry's is definitely a foam not a gel. Also little mention is made as to how cheap and nasty the handle is. Btw I used a proper gel with my Harry's trial pack but also experienced really bad clogging of the blades. Overall it is no better than a multi pack of disposable razors, nowhere near as good as Gillette Fusion or proglide.

If you do not like this, then you will hate my headblade review, especially as I was given it to analyse it by a manufacturer so I am specifically highlighting it's design limitations/flaws so that the next gen models can be improved.

    • @GeekOfShaves
      @GeekOfShaves  5 лет назад

      @@conor-_C I recommend buying a home brand / white lable razor from one of the Supermarkets. In the UK these are nearly all made by Edgewell who also own the Wilkinson Sword and Bulldog Brands. Sainsbury's use Dorco, which is the same as DSC. Nearly all the club's work out more expensive, even when compared to Gillette Fusion. Sainsbury's and others often have the Fission 10 pack on special offer at £18 odd, this then works out less per cartridge than many of the club's (DSC, Cornerstone, Shavekit, FFS, Shave Club UK, Sterling Shave Club, KoS, BIC shave club) who are all at £2+ per cartridge.
      I have discovered that people have their own preference on the razor, so it's best to test a few to find one you like.

    Speak to any professional barber - don't shave against the grain. It's painful watching the way this guy hacks at his face. All shave gels emerge as a gel and become a foam on the face, if yours was foam from the can then I guess air was getting into it.

    This guy should learn how to shave. Slow long strokes downward with the grain and clear the blade with water. Sorry to hear this, your not the first though, why else do you think they say it's not for head shaving 😉

      Would be great if you did a piece on what own brands are compatible with what branded handles.
      BTW switched to the " new " Aldi adze model much much better.

      @@clivepritchard many of the home brands are made by Edgewell (Hydro) and they make sure the connector is different, or has added parts to make them not fit theirs but fit a competitors handle. Rite Fit 5 was designed specifically to fit the Gillette Fusion range, but I actually prefer the handle that it comes with. Lol

    Harry's is a liberal based company. I reject it.

    I bought because it said five blades and a trimmer. You get one blade and one extra blade. This is a real ripoff, false advertising on the box. I thought I might be missing something, but after 30 minutes of trying to find a trimmer and the other blades -- they have a terrible way of packaging and/or listing what you get. You're in the store you can't open the box so they just lie to you. I won't be buying anymore from this company. And even if I'm wrong and there is a trimmer and more blades somewhere why would I buy from this company that's so stupid. Waste my time with this wild goose chase! Elegant packaging give me a break... no instructions. A new company should not be acting like this, so annoying.

      @@GeekOfShaves -I read the box in Walmart. I paid 10 dollars for 5 cartridges and a trimmer. I got 2 cartidges for 5 bucks each, and a lot of nonsense packaging.
