I use a R6II for photographing sports, previously I used a 1Dxs as my main cameras. I use an older EF IS 400/2.8 with a 1.4 converter. The focus is incredible it was like having a new lens. I thought it was a bit slow focusing in low light but after the last firmware update I have no issues in low light. I was shooting a soccer match at ISO800 and was able to do moderate cropping with no noticeable image degradation.
I upgraded from the R6 to the R6 mk II when it was released as I was able to get a good trade in. In fact the camera store admitted they made a mistake in my advantage but they couldn't decline the offer anymore at that point 😅. For me the R6 mk ii more or less fixed most of the R6's shortcomings - much better thermal behavior, custom modes for video, much better rolling shutter behavior, usb-c power supply while the camera is on. And then adds some features, of which I most appreciate the multi-fuction hotshoe on which I have mounted the DM-E1D mic.
@@alex_nita you can configure a button if you want, but there's an automatic switch with optical sensor from display to viewfinder and back, as soon as you get the camera to your eye, so no real need to have a dedicated button.
@@ritrattoaziendale configuring a button for this seams like a 3rd hand solution. With 6dmk2 when I do street photography (occasionally) I love the speed of switching between viewfinder and the LCD with a dedicated button. But I guess Canon is thinking about clouds but not usability of their R line bodies.
@@alex_nita and how having a dedicated button differs from having a menu configured dedicated button? Just curious. Anyway, the optical sensor speed will be switching faster then you pressing any button, dedicated or not, fwiw.
@ritrattoaziendale I guess each button has a default functionality and with the "new" configuration - the user will have memorize it has a different function. Its not difficult but annoying. Anyway, the other "bad" manufacturers added the button. I guess they are for "lower class photographers".
This has been the case for years now with mirrorless. But the reason photographers continue to buy new gear is because they are gear heads and not photographers (and that’s okay for some).
I consider this camera to be a legendary sleeper. It's just so much camera for the price. Thr output most of all is exquisite with more details and saturation level than previous Cameras. Probably a redesigned filtering allowed for that(at the cost of some moirethat I personally don't mind). Also, the battery is severely underrated and I wonder why Canon rate it so low. While keping the camera in airplane mode, I am able to take 1500 easily in a single charge, sometimes even more than that. That is better than my previous 6d mark2 which was a dslr with fewer electronics.
Yeah man! Even the Canon ambassadors slept on this... Even Pete McK just had a preview of the camera and never talked about it again. DXO NEVER did a test of the R6 II, but they did one for the R8. Even this channel did the R8 review and not the R6 II. THe R6 II has been the best bang for the buck full frame hybrid for the past nearly 2 years, better than the a7iv , better than the S5II. In fact, it's probably better than the z6III because that camera's AF abilities still lag behind the R6 II by a fair margin (my friend owns both).
Thanks for your review of the R6II. It‘s really good, but I think that you seriously undersold the battery life. I‘ve been using 2 of these bodies for several months now for extensive hybrid wedding shooting and it is incredibly hard to drain the battery. For a mirrorless body at this size the battery life is unmatched.
Agreed! With the original R6 I can shoot 1800/2000 pictures (single shots, not burst) before the battery drains out (not only recent LP-E6NH, but also old LP-E6 I have since 5D II days); of course I use eco mode, and turn off camera when I don't need it, I'm long time Canon user since film days and learnt how to save a battery.
My knock on the R6ii vs the R6 is actually that the original R6 seems to handle low light better. I shoot in nightclubs and concert venues where I have zero control over light. The extra 4MP aren't worth losing image quality when I'm regularly shooting at 25k ISO. As a left handed person, I'm also annoyed that they moved the power dial to the already extremely crowded right side of the body. Hopefully they'll fix that in the R6iii.
Naw. If you downsize the R6 II file to match the R6, noise is basically identical. And as is, the R6 II is ridiculously clean at high ISOs.... and AI noise reduction built into software like Adobe is so good, my ISO12800 shots now look like ISO200 from cameras just last generation. Noise is not an issue anymore for photos.
Hello, could you plz tell me, how is the image quality difference in portraits if same lens is used with R5 vs R6M2 in sharpness. I suppose, landscape anyways will be better in R5? Thank you.
Great review. Got this beauty in May. I have got my hands on plenty of Canon cameras but this is the best value to date imho. I don’t understand why some people find it inadequate and disappointing ( speaking from still shooting perspective only). i start to wonder if we are a bit too spoiled of modern tech specs that we can’t be satisfied anymore? This camera offers more than what most of us ever need.
I know a guy who owns both the R6 II and got the z6III a couple weeks ago. z6III is great on paper, but the AF isn't nearly as good as his R6 II so he's sending the Nikon back.
@@77dris man that's a shame but good to know. Wasn't second guessing myself based on cost difference alone but definitely reassured I made the right choice
Really enjoy this camera for sports/action photography. The smaller MP sensor results in smaller files to write/read/store. But the photo quality is still very sharp for web and smaller print usage. I've even printed some larger posters with decent results. The ability to hit nice fast bursts speeds help to lock in the action you're trying to capture. The AF was a huge upgrade over the older R6, too. This being another strong aspect for sports photography with vastly improved face tracking processing. The low-light photography for indoor shoots is also very good. I don't see a major difference with the R5 like some claim, but the R3 is where the true pros go when the tool is your life blood. Aside from those two aspects much of the camera is the same in terms of photos.
As Sony user I don't understand why everyone's talking about the Sony's autofocus as the best in the world. I think it's the second o third review by a Canon's camera that I see and honestly THIS autofocus is insane! I've got the Sony Zve1 but...the level of precision of this tracking is really really really impressive..
@@SysGamiing yes I like what came out from my Zve1 don't get me wrong..even from the a7iv/a7c ii but here the image, the colors...I don't know I feel the difference
@@lb_projekt Agree about the color. But that can be compensate in post. I shoot both Canon and Sony, both crop and full frame, both DSLR and Mirrorless. I like what come out of the Sony FF best. But It depends you know. Just my experience.
@@SysGamiing yes sure... I've used a canon years ago and I'm promised to myself to never again use a canon camera in my life! I've always used Sony because of... everything basically! Colors.. autofocus..etc etc..but in the last couple of years.. maybe more..Sony begin to put in the market things like camera with 4k 60 cropped...no firmware but a new camera every 6 months with nothing more then the previous one..no more stabilized lens but a stupid stabilization with that damn crop..so I've started to lookin around and I've see the R8 and this camera. No crop in 4k...supersharp image.. handheld shoot till one or two seconds so...I mean.. That's a really good product
I have two of these cameras (Twin bodies for weddings) and mine often stall and take a good 5-7 seconds to turn on. They also sometimes freeze when using the DOF preview button. And I mean seriously freeze. I need to completely remove the battery to unfreeze them and restart. Workflow wise though, this thing is a BEAST for hybrid shooting. The dedicated switch for still/video is perfect. It creates beautiful work and handles very nicely. I did find my R6 bodies more dependable though.
Recently picked this up on the sale at Wex. Upgraded from an R50 so this is certainly a huge upgrade for me in every area!! Great review as always enjoyed listening to your thoughts and made me appreciate my purchase even more.
Thank you for another fantastic review! I love my R6 and have debated upgrading for a while. However, I think I'll hold out to see what the R6 III will have to offer.
This is the camera I always recommend to people looking for a workhorse mid range camera. It's fantastic for the money and only beat out spec wise slightly by the Z6iii, but the only real benefits with the Z6iii is the internal raw and slightly faster sensor readout. Absolutely love mine!
@jordanmitchell1433 Uh, how about lens selection? People always said the lens selection is the most important part, have you all suddenly forgotten that? Nikon Z beats the crap out of RF mount in that regard. RF basically has nothing in-between cheapish 3.5-6.3 zooms and $2500 2.8 zooms, while Nikon has several good options like Tamron 28-75 2.8 G2. The Nikon S 1.8 prime selection is also miles ahead. This is how Canon responded regarding lens selection: "So basically, the reason why we have not been collaborating or partnering with a third party is because of our business strategy. Our business strategy says that we are not going to partner with a third party. And the reason why we came up with that strategy is because of the business that we are doing. So our business is that if we have some technology, we try to lock them up inside of our company and try to make a profit out of that. That’s the basis of our business” I would never advise anyone to buy into a company that so openly admits to "biting the hand that feeds" instead of trying to create a win-win situation for both them and the customer. Even APPLE are more open than that. Yea Canon make great products, but they always try to screw you over in some way.
@@fotografalexandernikolis sure, for now Canon might not have the same lens selection, but if we’re going off lens selection alone you end up placing Sony at the top. Canon will have more third party lens options in the further as well as more affordable Canon lenses, but they also are the best when it comes to adapting EF lenses. I personally use EF lenses for my professional work all the time alongside RF
@@jordanmitchell1433 We don't know for certain if Canon will ever allow 3rd party FF lenses, but Nikon and Sony do. And it doesn't change the fact that recommending Canon to beginners like you say you do is honestly extremely stupid at this point. Let's start with the primes: Canon's RF 50 1.8 is honestly hot garbage, with the same optical performance as the 20 year old EF version, while there's no other option until the sky-high expensive 1.2. Meanwhile Nikon's Z 50 1.8 is barely more expensive while having literally Zeiss Otus class optical performance. For kit zooms, Nikon has the excellent 24-70/4, while Canon's only offerings are only f/4.0-7.1 and the like. Canon's f/4 lenses like 14-35 and 24-105 are also significantly more expensive than Nikon's equivalents that are optically best in class. All of this speaks volumes about how Canon treats beginners or those on a budget as expendable who they don't WANT to enjoy decently priced gear, while Nikon offers complete packages with much less optical compromises at sometimes even better prices than Canon. And no, adapter options are not an excuse for Canon. Recommending a Canon mirrorless only makes sense for anyone who's already invested. For beginners that are buying their first mirrorless camera, recommending Canon is honestly just dumb, sorry. The fact that Canon fanboys have done a complete 180° from "Canon's large EF selection is their strongest point!" to "if you can't do with RF's limited and overpriced lens selection, sucks for you!" and pretending like lens selection is a non-issue like you did just speaks volumes about how you're grasping for air to defend their anti-consumer strategy.
Such an amazing Camera! Got the original R6 and almost upgraded, but I’m instead saving up for the R5 mark II that will hopefully be out later this summer!
I moved from an X-H2S to this camera a month ago. I like to shoot action and where the Fuji failed, this camera excels. Fuji changes switch position amongst other things all the time as well from camera to camera. The video specs and connections are fine for me as I'm not one of the millions of cinema creating videographers that people using a mirrorless camera all seem to be, lol.
the perfect tradeshow/convention camera for hybrid shooters. Great on a gimbal, small enough to carry 2 in a backpack for dual cam interview setups. Reliable and terrific in low light
@@gundisrambo9054 really? What did you upgrade to? I have the habit of turning off the camera when not in use, but I’ve literally shot 1600 photos of a graduation on a single battery charge, mostly using the LCD
I have been following your videos for a while now… excellent job mate ! Really love how you analyse lensens and cameras. I have my eyes on a R6 ii and this video just helps a lot. Thank you very much ! Keep up the good work 🙌🏻🎉
Thank’s Chris, Love my R8, the ‘advantages’ of R6ii are not worth upgrading for me, I don’t have any problems with battery life , smaller battery fits easily into my pocket and it takes less than 10 seconds to change. I now use the vello battery grip from the RP, this fits and works perfectly and probably gives me a longer run than a single battery on R6ii..
I love my R6m2. I relegated my venerable 6D to backup duty when Amazon US first sold the full US warranty version of the R6m2 for $1999. Add in some rewards points and the total was a fabulous deal. (As of 4 July 2024, it's still $1999!).
@@gabedamien Bought the R6 mkII with adaptor along with 100-500 for £3700 from Panamoz and the 25-105 f4 has £300 off at the moment. So I had that from UK dealer for £995.
I own the R6, albeit its a backup to my R6 nowdays and even if i only had the R6 mk1 id see no reason to upgrade, but the R6 as a general system is jam packed with great photo features (i dont care about filming) and is a really well rounded full frame body. Especially paired with the 24-105 f4 which is fairly priced for what it offers. Only downside would be that only now third party lenses are slowly comming to the system
I'm so tempted to upgrade from the original R6, but I can wait until next year. Hopefully by then we get more standard zoom options, imho that what RF lacking the most.
No one talks about this for some reason, but this camera has one crippling feature: external monitors render the touchscreen useless. If you choose to use to use dual output, you cannot internally record. If you choose to use your monitor, you LOSE all touchscreen functionality. If you’re using the autofocus and it loses the subject for any reason, you won’t be able to fix it. It’s SUPER frustrating that such a basic feature is left out. If you don’t care about rigging it out, this is the camera for you.
I have this camera for half a year now, best i have ever had. The only downside is that i have a small light blue dead pixel but lightroom fixes it 99% of the time when i edit the raws. But still, for a camera costing 2949 euros, that should not happen!
The only thing that spoils the camera experience is those unpredictable freezes. I’m on the latest firmware, and they are still here. Last time it froze with my RF 100-500 lens. I did’t have such an issue with any of my digital Canon cameras since 2005, and I used to have plenty of them. Even the original R didn’t have this issue.
idk when it'll be cheaper probably will be a good choice, but considering Nikon Z6 III and really good rolling shutter in video, and other neat stuff, idk if I'm interested in Canon camera, a company that still doesn't fully open its mount to third-party manufacturers
I am still making my decision and really need some advice.🙏🏻 I started learning photography for around 2 yrs. I consider myself still a beginner. I currently have a R50, and mostly take it for travel photography. I want to upgrade my camera mainly for 2 reasons: - I wanna try street photography at night. - Lately i got some occasional freelance jobs refer from my friends (mostly simple interviews or small indoor performance recording). Though I can merely get the job done with the R50 (together with another borrowed camera), but surely I start to realise the limitations of it. With the price drop on R6ii, should I get it right away or wait for the rumored R6iii / R7ii? Thank you so much!
No plans for M4/3. I would like to test Panasonic full-frame cameras but their PR team messed up so badly by trying to manipulating Gerald Undone, so to me, as a journalist, their reputation isn't great right now
@@christopherfrost I hope you do! Panasonic is quickly growing in user base and influence. Plus, all camera companies engage influencers for various launches, including Gerald Undone for the GH7 launch, which was subsequent to the S9 launch that he made the video about. IMHO, their brand is newsworthy for a journalist like yourself. BTW - love your videos and channel, thank you for all that you do!
4:30, perhaps you meant a switch dedicated to locking the rear dial, but in case you we're unaware, the lock position on the on/off switch can be configured to lock (or not) any of the dials and the touch screen. In the menu, it is on the 5th screen of the 'wrench' tab: 'Multi function lock'. I have mine configured to lock just the touchscreen.
No, he absolutely meant what he said; some Canon cameras used to have a push-lock on the main mode dial, to avoid mode change during use or when storing/retrieving the camera from the bag. I have the R6 and never had any problems with the main dial accidentally moving, but I'll surely like a push lock as there was in the past for extra safety.
@@ritrattoaziendale I see. I misunderstood. The video switched to showing the rear dial and so I thought that was the dial he was talking about, but he's talking about the mode dial, like you (and he) said. Thank you for the clarification.
Thank you for this! I know they share the same sensor, but I see the R8 has a DXO mark of 14.7 in DR, while the R6MKII has only a 14.3. I have an R8 and am pretty amazed at it's DR, would you say there is a significant difference between the two, or are they pretty much the same despite the DXO review?
Hey Chris, are you planning on reviewing the TTArtisans 500mm f/6.3? Just have it and for the price is has very good image quality. Would love to see the testing on your charts.
It's a great upgrade for the EOS R. Even though you lose about 5mp and a top screen, you getting better pictures, stabilization, and more refined handling. I recommend it.
@@TimLucasdesign My biggest thing I need is shutter speed, IBIS, and faster AF for Motorsports photography. I'll miss the 5MP and the top screen. But thumbstick would be nice
I almost always shoot with 2 bodies, and had been using the OG R and the R6ii. The R6ii is so much better, and with the current $500 rebate, it was a no-brainer to switch to 2xR6ii. The upgrades to the focus system are simply amazing. I still get great pictures with the R, and do like the extra pixels, but with the R6ii, I can work much faster and get more keepers.
That's practically impossible with full frame sensors. We're so close to maximal performance already, you just need more photons now from a bigger sensor. GFX100 gets higher dynamic range than an absolutely theoretically perfect full frame sensor.
Basically, if you benefit from the video upgrades or the improved electronic rolling shutter, upgrade. If you only do photos and mostly use mechanical shutter, the upgrade won't mean much
What a great review! Thanks Chris! one question though, can you please test if you can select Auto ISO with control ring on the lens or adapter? It drives me nuts on my Eos R - you can scroll back and forth the ISO values with the ring, but to select AUTO you have to flip the screen open and find a way to adjust ISO there.... If this is the case with R6II - I swear to God, I will by a Pentax instead.
Maybe not exactly what you want, but there are a couple of ways to do this. First, you can set the camera to revert to auto ISO after the metering timer expires, and if you don’t want to wait, just tap the Q button or menu button or whatever twice to cancel the timer and go right back to auto ISO. And/or, you can program a button to bring up ISO in the viewfinder and then use the control ring to dial it all the back down to AUTO. If that won’t work for you, I see a Pentax in your future. So sorry. p.s. you can also use the M-Fn button to brig up ISO and then dial it to auto.
I used to shoot Canon DSLRs but their mirrorless EVFs have a huge lag so that's a hard pass. Shame really. Silly how they didn't pay attention to such an important element.
All these reviews about the R body lineup convinced me to push my 6DMK2 till it dies and switch to Nikon (or Sony) for one simple reason: no dedicated button to switch between the viewfinder and the screen!
@@alex_nita OK. By default, the camera auto switches when you bring the camera to your face. If you don’t want it to do that, you can program any button to swap between viewfinder and screen.
@@Mariner1460 ok, lets pretend we are in kindergarten and I try to explain it simpler: I have my camera in my hand, just casually walking on the street. I see a nice composition. I raise the hand (the one with the camera) and I want to press a button to switch to the LCD and snap the photo. Oh wait, there is no such button and I have to repurpose an existing button.
@@alex_nita Kindergarten or not, that’s exactly how Canon mirrorless cameras work. You do not need to press any button to get live view like you do on DSLRs. Just raise the camera, as you say, and the LCD will be on. Snap away! If the LCD timed out (user configurable), then a shutter half press will instantly turn it back on. For street, maybe you want to be more discreet and not have the LCD auto on all the time? My toddler mind can dig that. Then you would have to go the route of programming a button (or flip the screen from closed to open.) Just trying to be helpful. 😃. If you haven’t tried mirrorless, yet, you might want to have a look. There are many other changes that may benefit your photography and make giving up just one button worth it. Happy shooting! Edit: I was curious how this worked on my DSLR; so, I dusted off the old 1Ds Mark III (a pretty decent camera in its day 😄). On that camera, the Set button is used to turn on live view. I then grabbed the R6ii, turned off EVF/LCD auto switching, configured the Set button to swap them (the set button is otherwise useless during shooting), and whammo, it works exactly the same now. Nice. I hope that helps.
Hi Chris. Did you find any troubles to get the same Jpg/SOOC colours from the raw files using Lightroom classic? I've heard that LrC Canon Profiles aren't good enough, delivering dull colours. Then I post a good review of a Nikon camera and the Canon fanboys claim I'm secretly getting paid by /them/...then a good review of a Sony camera comes and all the other fanboys start moaning...I long ago learned to ignore them all :-)
Just bought a used R6 for 830€; no need to buy a nearly identical camera for more then twice the price, I would say the new one is R6 Mark 1,5 rather then 2, no sensibile change to justify the buy, let alone the switch from the older model.
i have this camera before, it was very good. it can do everything. it is one of my favorite camera. however, the lens choices turns me off and I pulled the trigger of switching to fuji.
I am an astrophotographer and uses mostly Samyang XP lenses which are way much better than the Canon lenses and cheaper too. And they are completely incompatible with the R6 markii. When such a lens is installed on the camera, and the shutter pressed, the camera crashes completely (i.e. no button respond, screen gets black, and red led light indicating that the image is being saved is permanently on), only solution is to remove the battery of the camera and put another lens. To me it means the camera is useless, and I should have bought a Sony. Very very upset since it seems it's Canon which blocked the camera to force people to use their crappy lenses. I once bought a Canon 24mm F/1.4 lens (1500 euros) and the star images in the corners were awful. I sent the lens back to Canon and they sent it back to me telling me that it was normal, and that I should stop the camera down to F/4 to have good images. If I wanted to use the lens at F/4 I would not have spent 1500 euros in a F/1.4 lens. So I bought a Samyang for much less which gives sharp images in the corners. So it looks like only solution is to move to Sony. I can use regular Samyang lenses provided I change one menu item, but they are clearly not as good as the XP series.
IBIS wobble in video is most prominent in vlog style walking shots (head shots like your examples). Is that correct? For video, if my greatest interest is nicely controlled forward facing (not vlog) handheld shots with pans, and maybe some forward walking, how wobbly can I expect it to be compared to a camera without IBIS? I am trying not to use a gimbal. It seems maybe not as bad as people are making it out to be in some alarmist reviews? Am I correct that it may end up working to my great advantage for these style shots ala maybe walking through a market? Thanks as always Chris. Best on YT imo.
This camera will do very well for your needs regarding the stability. But to be honest, why don't you just use the latest greatest smartphone for your walking video?
@@bigd7696 Not strictly a walking video, but yes it's been between this and the 16 Pro for me, for a few months. Still deciding. The amount of control and versatility the r6ii gives is very appealing, and so is not using probably my primary phone for content creation, to be interrupted by notifications and shit. Still have plenty of time to decide between now and the 16 Pro release, and I'm not in a rush.
I see when you are doing camera reviews, you often don't mention what lens you used to do the image quality test, like you didn't with this review. Why not? The lens is important to the image quality and also autofocus and stabilisation results and you should mention what lens(es) you were using to take the tests.
The lens will always be the sharpest possible, with shots taken from the middle of the image, and stopped down typically to f/4 / f/5.6, so you can rest assured I'm getting the best possible resolution out of each camera I'm testing.

Yes, Canon does reserve the top LCD only for it's top models, DSLR and mirrorless. It might be a cost thing, but since the top LCD is a lot less important now on mirrorless than it was for DSLRs, I suspect it's mostly there to further distinguish camera tiers feature-wise. I have DSLRs and Mirrorless bodies with and without the top screen. On the DSLR, it's awesome--lots of useful information all in one spot. Exposure, focus, and drive modes are all managed through that screen and aren't available anywhere else. On the R series cameras, everything on the top screen is also available on the back LCD and in the EVF. Given that, I prefer having a PASM dial on the top plate. It's way faster to switch modes (twist, done) than the button/wheel/LCD combo (press, scroll, scroll, scroll, press).

Had this camera for a year. It’s at the feature point where 99% of photographers will not need more than this
This has been the case for years now with mirrorless.
The R6 Mark II is incredible!!!
LOL! You can basically say that sentence to every new camera from different brands.

I had r6mk for a year now and super happy. will make a roadtrip through Europe next.
Was debating between this and the nikon z6iii and about a week ago canon had this refurbished for 1600 usd so i jumped on it and couldn't be happier!
1600USD is a bargain
@@zegzbrutal agreed had always heard good things about canons refurbished products and it really does look brand new
I know a guy who owns both the R6 II and got the z6III a couple weeks ago. z6III is great on paper, but the AF isn't nearly as good as his R6 II so he's sending the Nikon back.
@@77dris man that's a shame but good to know. Wasn't second guessing myself based on cost difference alone but definitely reassured I made the right choice
I just purchased last week. I'm happy with it.
Sony sensor is still the best bro. Everything is tack sharp.
@@SysGamiing yes I like what came out from my Zve1 don't get me wrong..even from the a7iv/a7c ii but here the image, the colors...I don't know I feel the difference

Will you be reviewing the new 35mm f/1.4 soon?
This is the camera I always recommend to people looking for a workhorse mid range camera. It's fantastic for the money and only beat out spec wise slightly by the Z6iii, but the only real benefits with the Z6iii is the internal raw and slightly faster sensor readout. Absolutely love mine!
You’re being generous. Can name quite a few benefits with the Z6ii.
@@livejames9374 such as?
@jordanmitchell1433 Uh, how about lens selection? People always said the lens selection is the most important part, have you all suddenly forgotten that? Nikon Z beats the crap out of RF mount in that regard. RF basically has nothing in-between cheapish 3.5-6.3 zooms and $2500 2.8 zooms, while Nikon has several good options like Tamron 28-75 2.8 G2. The Nikon S 1.8 prime selection is also miles ahead.
This is how Canon responded regarding lens selection:
"So basically, the reason why we have not been collaborating or partnering with a third party is because of our business strategy. Our business strategy says that we are not going to partner with a third party. And the reason why we came up with that strategy is because of the business that we are doing. So our business is that if we have some technology, we try to lock them up inside of our company and try to make a profit out of that. That’s the basis of our business”
I would never advise anyone to buy into a company that so openly admits to "biting the hand that feeds" instead of trying to create a win-win situation for both them and the customer.
I picked one up recently, grey market for £1520 new, and it is an absolute bargain for the performance you get.

Preordered this when it was announced, has been worth every penny. Just picked up a second one with this refurbished sale, it’s that good.
One arriving tomorrow along with a rf24-105L f4 , Rf 100-500 plus ef-rf Adaptor.All for £4,700 new.😊
How? The RF 100-500 alone is like $2900 US.

Only downside would be that only now third party lenses are slowly comming to the system

awesome vid, I own mark 1 and this was a good review for the second, thank You!
Unfortunately, if you want more MP, it's either crop R7 or very expensive R5 (which also overheats, AFAIK).
I have this camera for half a year now, best i have ever had. The only downside is that i have a small light blue dead pixel but lightroom fixes it 99% of the time when i edit the raws. But still, for a camera costing 2949 euros, that should not happen!
I really like the power button on the right side. I hate to use both hands to turn my camera on/off. Good job canon!
I am still making my decision and really need some advice.🙏🏻
I started learning photography for around 2 yrs. I consider myself still a beginner. I currently have a R50, and mostly take it for travel photography. I want to upgrade my camera mainly for 2 reasons:
- I wanna try street photography at night.
Any plans to review Panasonic cameras and lenses, either or both full frame and MFT?
looking forward to that 🙂
No plans for M4/3.
I was just seeing if you had made this video yesterday. Low and behold!
finally the review I have been waiting for. Been in doubt about the R5 and the R6 Mk2. coming from the Original R
What would you recommend?

Hey Chris, are you planning on reviewing the TTArtisans 500mm f/6.3? Just have it and for the price is has very good image quality. Would love to see the testing on your charts.
Im really considering this as a new body upgrade from my EOS R. Overall seems solid
@@Pixels_And_Petrol I really don't think you will miss the 5mp. In my experience 24 is the sweet spot.
@@TimLucasdesign I hope so I'm so used to my 30. But the pros on the trade off are huge.
You can also get them for a lot less than 2K on MPB.
I think you said LPE6-NG but it’s LPE6-NH. Correct me if I’m wrong
I hope the next-generation Canon cameras will feature a dynamic range of 16 stops or more.
That's practically impossible with full frame sensors. We're so close to maximal performance already, you just need more photons now from a bigger sensor. GFX100 gets higher dynamic range than an absolutely theoretically perfect full frame sensor.
Nice review, though I was hoping for a comparison to the R6 mark I, to measure the level of upgrades by.
Just curious, what would you want/need that feature for?
@@Mariner1460 lol.... Lol ... I need it because sometimes I like to take street photos at the ground level. Lol

I do weddings, this camera is a dream!
The R6ii is what the R6 should have been. The R6iii with the R3 Sensor would clearly put Canon at the VERY top.
Hi nice video clarify Is this video shoot by R6 mark 2.
I have R8 (+rf 24 1.8) and im HAPPY ))) Its AMAZING !!!

EOS R6 II review is just out... and seems like EOS R6 III is coming soon........
The R6 mkii is the first canon R body that I feel is better than the 5D or 6D cameras in function and color rendition! Still love my 6D though.
Totally. Man pros are saying the R6 II has the best colours of any Canon mirrorless right now.
Hi Chris, please do review on nikon z35mm 1.4. we are waiting
You have dust in the camera! LOL I just bought it 3 days ago, love it.
I Love my R6mkii! Formerly I shot with (2)mki’s and upgraded 1 of the bodies with the MkII. I shoot lots of sports and events including weddings and portraits and they both have handled these categories very well. But the MkII is noticeably better than the MkI Hoping to upgrade the mki with the R1 if the specs (once released) are what I need. But if not I can survive with getting another MkII just fine.
Nice vid displaying the true performance 👍🏾
Where do you see the biggest differences please? I dislike the ugly noise at high iso in r6 original
@@dogstoryteller The R6 has some of the lowest high ISO noise of any camera you can buy right now... sooo... you may not be in luck (The R6 II is about the same).
I have had both and like the faster FPS, shutter half press pre shoot which helps for capturing the right moment for sportsand wildlife, 1.6x crop 4k video, better af@@dogstoryteller
Only 1/8000 max shutter speed... My older Fuji xt3 can do 1/32000. Ideal in sunlight shooting at low f numbers f1.4 etc. Why can't full frame cameras match Fuji? Is there a reason for this? anyone know... thanks
The Nikon Z8, Z9 and Z6 III do have enhanced shutter speeds.
@@jorgepinogarciadelasbayonas wow, maybe Nikon is the way to go? Thanks
That X-T3 figure is just for the electronic shutter, not the mechanical shutter. It wasn't mentioned in this video but the R6 II's fastest electronic shutter speed is 1/16000th sec
@@christopherfrost thanks Chris for the update. Great news 1/16000 in Electronic mode is good enough for me. R6II is now on my shopping list 👍
This is a pretty good camera...but if you buy a small set of lenses like the 24-70 F2.8 + 70-200 F2.8 + 1 prime, you need to put some bucks on the table !
So the good Canon lenses are not the cheapest out there.
Is it have dual ISO in R6M2? R5 had that.
Unfortunately since R6 MK ii is really good, Canon might not give us a version iii for at least another two years.
It looks like I won't be upgrading my EOS R for the rest of my lifetime. All the new cameras are too bulky, and the compact ones are gimped. So I'll keep my EOS R.
need a comparison with canon r7. which is better?
Hmm that's a good question! I'm not sure if I'll end up making a comparison but a good start for you would be my review of the R7
I have both and the R6 ll is much more better in every aspect..
I use and like both. The R6ii is the “better” camera, BUT the R7 with 32 megapixels on a crop sensor lets you do things the R6ii just can’t. Oh, and the R7 is way cheaper.
Not gonna lie, it is the First Time of mine seeing your face.
No review of the RF 35mm 1.4. Canon knew not to give you one early because your test would've shown the terrible distortion and vignette.
Go away Sony fanboy
@@larrycoonrod5563 I have the Canon R6 II and RF 35mm 1.4. The distortion and vignette is terrible for a $1500 lens. My RF 24-70mm 2.8 has no distortion at 35mm and way less vignette than the RF 35mm 1.4 lens which is a prime. Shame on Canon.
Hello. Thanks for your very good channel. I need your guidance. I want to buy a camera and I don't know which one to choose between Canon R6 II and Sony a7c II. Since you have a lot of experience in this field, I would appreciate it if you could guide me. thanks for your kindness. 🌹🌹🌹
Kind of late with this review. Did the camera come out a year and a half to two years ago?
A camera of this level and price point having a Scene Mode is funny to me.
I don’t understand why there’s no top LCD at this price point. Perhaps Canon copies also the bad things from Sony :/
Top LCD is standard in the Nikon range. Z9, Z8 and Z6 III are having it.
How does it compare to the Nikon Z5 which is discounted to £999 at the moment?
Nikon is fully manual focus, I’d stick with Sony, Canon or Panasonic those are fully eye autofocus and best value better lenses and quality.
@@alphaandomega2709 Is that from your personal experience?
@@alphaandomega2709 LOL! Canon R8 does have only 1 card slot, smaller battery, no in-body stabilization. Looks like a typical Canon cripple hammer.
Z5 is usable, just don't expect it to be good sports performer.
@@jorgepinogarciadelasbayonasRF lenses are mostly stabilise
Perfect camera ATM
Basically yes! The only thing I would have liked is 4k120 with a crop like the z6III... then it would be perfect.
anyone mount it on the 17mm tilt shift lenses?
Pretty impressive.
