I recently visited my local Best Buy and noticed that they had significantly expanded their camera department. Each brand now has its own separate table and they have more models in stock. Hopefully it's a good sign for the camera market.
I'm glad I'm not the only one having a problem with the on and off video on the opposite side as the original.Your daughter is stunning by the way. A natural.
I've been shooting Canon for 18 years and for 12 of those I used the best Canon 1 Series. I used Rebels, 20D, 30D, 5DIV, and EOS R. I got the R6 II when it came out and it's THE best camera I've ever used by a fair margin. The AF is way better than any of the 1 Series cams, EF lenses adapt PERFECTLY, the video is better than it's direct competition like the A7IV and S5 II both of which don't have full frame 4k60 like the R6 II, the battery life is phenomenal, and dynamic range and noise are the best of any camera I've used. I've printed billboards with 8MP cams that looked incredible, and 24 MP massive wall size prints that also are so detailed. I've compared the R6 II files upscaled to 45 MP to the R5 files taken with the same lenses and there is very little differnce. When printed there is 0 difference. But if I want, I can use the Superscale ability of LR/Camera Raw to get even sharper files. My buddy and I have 30 years of photo/design experience and when we did a comparison of superscaled files from the R6 II to the R5 (both equated to 45 MP) we chose the R6 II files as sharper/more detailed 9/10 times when zoomed in to 100% on large monitors. To me MP is now more marketing than a necessity. I shoot hockey with the R6 II and adapted 70-200 2.8 IS III and this thing is almost perfect. I get about 98% hit hate using eye AF... it tracks even through visors and cages! I never use electronic shutter as it lowers IQ, but as a pro shooter who used the best sports cams in the world that were "only 10 fps", 12 fps is just beastly imho and anything more than that is mostly marketing. I'd also say that the "soft" images you had when your daughter was jumping was due to the slow shutter speed. You will get a fair amount of blur at 1/320s if somebody is moving around.
It looks like you have a lot of experience and that's great. I'm really interested in your opinion on the comparison of the R6mk1 and the R6mk2. I heard that the R6mk1 has a different filter that makes the photos more filmy compared to the mk2, anyway, but that the MK2 is modified by software so that the photos look sharper as a result... Another thing is the ISO, which the body can handle higher ISO without quality loss... What is your opinion, please, is the R6mk1 still worth it or is it outdated and the R6mk2 already offers a much better picture? Or the Canon R5mk1 wins in output quality over the R6mk1-2 series
I’ve been using the r6 II since launch and love it. That being said…I bought the r5 II and it may have ruined me. The fact you can control focus with the pupil of your eye through the viewfinder is mind blowing. You can also store up to 10 faces in the camera that take priority for focus tracking in a group shot like you would do in a wedding. But the tracking with your eye is so different incredible There is no excuse when photographing my kids to not get the one I want in focus. 🤯

I had moments where I was going to miss a shot and I just aimed the camera in the direction of the subject and fired and it hit Every. Time. I was blown away. Bringing the photos into my computer I feel the colours are a little different. Not bad. The photos seem a little more contrasty like there is more dynamic range. Im not sure but that's what I feel I am seeing. But ya, that autofocus makes the switch worth it for anyone thinking of an upgrade in my opinion.
Another thing is I went into 1.6 crop mode with the R6 Mark II to get a little more reach for some shots and the photos held together much better than the original R6 with just the 4 megapixel bump.
Straight out of camera, do you like the R6 colors or R6 mark ii colors better? I’ve been shooting with the original R6 for a few years and sometimes I have a problem with the skin tones. Other than that, for stills, the original works for me.

The speed, sharpness of the images, sensor, weight and feel and that autofocus is damn well sticky. I rarely ever miss a shot in any scenerio. I have zero regrets in buying my R6ii
You've been one of my favorite photographer/vlogger since I started in photography. Thank you for your tutorials and tips, and congratulations on reaching nearly 100k subscribers! 🙂
I purchased the Mk1 at the start of my (new) photography career nearly three years ago. As business began to grow rapidly, I purchased the Mk2 just a few months after its release. The two of them make a wonderful combo. That said, I still use the Mk1 for 60-70% of my work (commercial photography) but that's out of loyalty/familiarity. The Mk2 is far more capable. I tend to rely on the Mk2 for sports/action and video (less overheating) and the Mk1 for "general" and walk-around stuff (stills, street, product, headshots, travel, etc.). If you were more of a hybrid shooter, you'd appreciate the logic of the stills/video switch and the separation of the custom (C1/C2/C3) settings between the modes..... again, if custom settings are your jam. I'll probably upgrade early next year to either the Mk3 or the R5Mk2 especially as I'm seeing an increase in demand for video. Candidly, I'm not sure why it took you so long to try (you could have rented BTW) the R6Mk2 or have a second body. If you've got a second R6MkI, you can tell your husband that you'll sell it to offset the costs😄. Good money can be had for them! Lastly, you have a beautiful family. You're truly blessed........
If I wanted to get a Canon R camera, the R6ii would be at the top of my list. I might finally sell my Canon 80D and move up to this mirrorless. Full frame and all its benefits in tracking and speed would be worth it. And it is a decent video camera also.
This is my first Canon, which I bought for fast action with the reliable autofocus. I sold my Fuji X-H2S which disappointed in this regard (but was awesome in quite a few other areas). I am not sad I made the switch, and the inexpensive Canon RF lenses are great! I'm still learning the abilities of the Canon system but so far it's been fun.
the camera profiles are not any less raw or any more edited than adobe profiles. The profiles are meant to match how the camera's sensor data is handled. Unfortunately, camera profiles for Canon bodies have no input from Canon and are approximations by Adobe (you can compare Canon's Digital Photo Professional software and how DPP handles the sensor data much better than Lightroom, but unfortunately, Lightroom is better for mass edits of photos so we're stuck with these approximations). That said, starting from these camera profiles for me has been a revelation. For many years, I had used Adobe profiles without knowing the difference with camera profiles. I had thought that camera profiles were akin to presets where the sliders were preselected. But they're totally different. And until I used camera profiles, I didn't understand when people said "Canon color science." It also made it easier for me to edit photos as I had a better starting point than Adobe Color.
Getting back to shooting after 12 years for a hobby again, looking at a used R6 then a new R8 but your video has pushed me to just order a new R6ii for Thanksgiving. Thank you for taking the time out to make this video and your other videos.
I loved the review. I’m a former OG R6 owner. I now own the R5 and an R8 for wedding photography. I’m waiting on the R6 Mk iii to come out so I can get the R6 Mk ii. I loved my R6 back in the day. The file size is perfect.
I have been planning to buy a new camera for a while now. I watched some videos from different reviewers and photographers, but then I stumbled upon your videos, and NOW, I LOVE STAYING HERE AND I HAVE SUBSCRIBED. I mean, best subscription ever 😂
I'm rocking the R right now, and have my eye on this camera for sure. If the Mark III is around to corner, I'm anticipating some good sale prices for the mark ii!! Thanks again for another great video! I've done 4 weddings this year, my 5th one coming up in a month!
Hi Katelyn. I bought my R6 MKII several months ago when it first came out and I just wanted to say that I love it and enjoy using it. I have the Eos R, R7 and the R8. This is a great improvement. Thank you for your video and review on the R6 MKII.
As a brand new subscriber to your channel, I was impressed with the content and detailed description, even though I'm not a portrait/landscape style photographer. I opted to go with the less expensive cousin, the R8 over the R6 MKII, to go along with my R7.
The R6 ii is a superb camera, but the freezing issue is relevant. Mine does it periodically and its a bit stressful not knowing when its going to happen, especially at events I need total reiability. That said, its generally not often it freezes, but it goes through phases. Its off to Canon next week for them to check it over...
I started watching your videos about a month ago after I got my Mark 2 and was wondering, how comes she doesn’t have any mark 2 videos? Now realize from watching this video that you didn’t own one. I think this video was very transparent, honest and nice to watch. Keep it keep it. Thank so much for all your help. Appreciating your work all the way from Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean.
FYI: I’ve got both the R6 and R6ii. I put a piece of gaff tape over the left hand still/video switch on the R6ii so my hand can feel it. So I can shoot both versions at the same shoot without issues.
The r6 mark 2 is a huge improvement over the r6, however I shot my first wedding yesterday with the r5 mark 2 and man that is jaw dropping impressive! So is the purchase price which I appreciate isn’t for everyone
Love love love the R6II! The main issue I run into in my portraits is moire in hair and clothes - that might be the green and purple you're seeing in the hair. Hope you keep it an enjoy it!

I did always use the original R6 for very high ISO (12800) but the R6m2 is a much faster camera. I now have the R3 instead of my R6 and I'm about to try the R3 again in very low light conditions. Keep the R6m2 and trade in your R6 for another one! That way you won't have the issues with muscle memory from one body to another.
I got my Mark 2 8 months ago after using rebels for 20 years, last one t8i. It was time to upgrade. Love the Mark 2. Easy to move focus area while photographing, change iso & f stops as needed.
I went from a T7 to this one! I’ve been doing photography for 3 years and LOVE the upgrade! Debating on if I should get this for a backup or go with something else? ❤
I went from the R to the R6mii. Major difference in the auto focus for me. Was curious to see what you thought about it. Thanks for sharing and what a beautiful family!
I got mine a few months back during a refurb sale for $1600. Couldn't be happier! Tbh probably overkill for my needs but it is nice knowing i'm set for many many years
The Adobe Standard profile definitely has a green tint with the R6 Mark II. I prefer ColorFidelity profiles or camera matching profiles instead. But once I got the color profile situated, I’ve been absolutely in love with this camera! Just got my 2nd one on sale a few months ago.
I got a r6ii last year, upgrading from an rp, and I love it. It’s been great for regular shooting and shooting my daughter’s wrestling matches. I love it. Wish I could afford the r5/r5ii. Maybe in the future.
Great video! I am coming up on a year with my MKII. I am having issues shooting at night, outdoors, mainly football. Also, I do have a wedding reception in a couple weeks that will be indoor. I am sure the lighting will not be great. Any suggestions or pointers will be appreciated. Thank you. Really enjoy your channel.
I bought the mk2 just under 2 years ago. It went back after 1 year for an error 70, repaired under warranty, just sending it back again for the same problem. Luckily it is still under warranty. A few months ago I bought a used R which , although a bit clunky to use, I have used more that the R6 mk2. I like the 30 mp sensor and don't mind the crop in video.
Love this type of video! I am overdue for a new camera and the thought of diving into the research and investment decision gives me anxiety but you laying this out like this is super helpful.
I found that higher iso with light doesn't produce as much noise if shot in low light without as much ligh as tou had coming into the room. The noise will be more prominent on any camera.
I had the R6 which was a great camera but the AF alone is worth the switch to the MKII. Other aspects also make it a better camera and I’m pleased I changed two years ago.
If you have to zoom in to see noise that means there is no noise. The human eye doesn’t zoom in. What do you call a person looking at a four x six foot print hanging on a wall with a magnifying glass? A photographer.
What about cropping? It is a very common thing to do to get the right framing (although I wouldn't do it with only 24mp). Cropping is effectively a zoom in.
Thanks for your video, Katelyn. Nicely presented. The photo images look so good with limited camera settings and adjustments. Your daughter doe's make for a real good model. Good job little girl.
The R6 MK II AF is insanely good over the R6. Also color balance is better. I shoot action and that AF never missed. I enjoyed watching you convince yourself this is a good upgrade
Hi Katelyn, like always, great video! What lens are you using please? One is going to upgrade to R6 II shortly, and like other's have said, children grow up way to quickly! We have our grandchildren in front of the lens now, so getting great pictures of them is going to be great fun! Good luck with everything. Regards Norm's
I own both and I can say the high iso performance on the original R6 beats the mk2, just slightly. The highlight recovery on the original is also slightly better but the mk2 is better in terms of base iso shadow recovery
haha I loved this because we bought the R5 MarkII and the switch of off/on is driving me nuts! But I LOVE the new camera! Selling all our R5s this month!!
Please share your focus settings, how you set them, and what buttons you use in a video like you did the original R6! All the possible focus settings and how /when to use them are confusing to me.
I'm not unhappy with my R6 Mark One. That sensor is a beast! And you can really do a lot with 20MP even if you crop a little. It's my go-to for most things, except wildlife where it's time to break out the R5. Not that I've ever gotten to use it because my son keeps using it and I wind up using my R7, but that's okay because he gets amazing shots, but I finally got him an R5C so now we can go shooting together and I can use a full frame camera. Anyway, these shots looked amazing! And I can hardly believe what you got at such high ISO after de-noising. That extra 4MP is definitely tempting. I would've gotten the Mark II earlier this year when it was on sale but I just had other purchases ahead of it. Maybe next year!
I have just found your channel and am enjoying it , Like you i have just done a upgrade , but from a 5Dmark 3 to a R6 mark 2 ....yes i even found the power button switch annoying on the left side ... Apart from that i found the camera awesome the way i describe the focus is like a heat seeking missile once locked you are not gonna shake it off lol .. i have had it about 3 weeks now and loving it totally .. I watched your flash review about godox and am seriously considering changing to them as i have a mixed bag of flashes 580EX 580EX mark2 and a 600EX RT so two optical and one radio,, i do have godox triggers and a controller ,so would like to hear if your views on godox still remain the same as canon gear is expensive in the UK
Excellent video! 👏🏿 I bought my R6 when I did because I knew I had a need for it. But I also knew that a Mark II( or a "better" equivalent) was coming later that year in 2022 so I knew that I was going to hurt for the newest camera anyway. At this point, I feel the exact same way about the Mark II. It's a big want for me but it's not really a big need. 😩.
Ordered mine the minute it came out and sold my other one. It’s been quite awhile. I STILL (sometimes) turn my video on instead of turning off the camera. Lol
This is gonna be interesting. I’ve had two Mark II‘s for a while. Generally love them BUT every couple hundred photos they freeze. Nothing helps except taking out the battery… had them in repair 3 times and Canon says they cannot find anything… last wedding, camera froze while the bride was walking down the aisle 😮, you can’t imagine my inner panic but luckily I still got several shots… I need sth reliable 😢
The R6M2 is a great camera. Although you could wait for a mark III, it will be more expensive, and I do not see them doing all that much better on autofocus or being a stacked sensor. As for the issue of CFexpress vs SDHC, yeah, the CFexpress works well if you are shooting video or stills at 30 frames per second, but I doubt you are chewing through that much 8k video or larger RAW files at high velocity. I have both an R6M2 and an R5M2. What I really like about the R6M2 is the weight. It is a little lighter than the R5M2, and it makes a great camera to walk around with on your neck or back. I record to the UHS-II cards and have had absolutely no problem. As for the whole "SDHC cards can fail" warning, I have never had one go bad. Now the old compact flash cards, I have more than once regretted using them. Do not overthink the R6M2. Get out and shoot with it. It is like having an R5M2 only lighter with smaller RAW files. If I had to give up one of my camera bodies, it would be the R5M2 and not the R6M2.
Great video and viewpoints. One of the coolest parts was realizing that you let her jump on the bed as part of the compensation for being your model! :)
I was highly considering this camera but unfortunately it doesn’t allow auto focus stacking with flash, only without. Otherwise it was perfect for my needs. Hopefully the Mark Iii will have the feature.
Great video, but I think the timing is pretty bad - the rumors are that the R6MK3 are coming out any month now. I would not pay full price for an MK2 this close to a new model release.
Hi Katelyn, or any R6II owner, I just got mine recently but I noticed the spot metering seems to be off at times and how do you manage it n get it to behave?? Thank you.
Hey KJ, thank you for the detailed review of this camera, I have the R6 Mark II, upgraded from the Canon 6D Mark II and I absolutely love this camera. I would love to hear your opinion and review of the new RF 35mm 1.4 L lens, would you be willing to review that lens?
Thank you for this video. Interested to know if you do a wedding with this camera how you set it up. You did a video on your camera setting with your past camera. I wonder if you will keep it the same. Thank you!
have the original R6....Is the 4 extra MP worth the upgrade? I have screen-effect type pixels even on my RAW files when enlarged. Was interested in the R5ii coming soon, but not sure to justify the price.
I got the mark ii about a month ago and I LOVE IT. The only thing that drives me insane is the other placement of the on and off switch, I keep on switching to video instead of turning my camera on 😂 other than that it’s amazing
LOL! I still love going to Best Buy in person! I was born in 89. Haha! If you purchase their total tech membership you automatically have protection on purchases and the restocking fee is waved.
What about file size, and memory cards? Do you need a different type of card, or can you use the same cards the R6 used? I understand it is an upgrade, so it is going to perform better, but are the upgraded features "better enough" to warrant upgrading? Maybe a Part 2 is needed, to see how you feel when the honeymoon is over😁.
I also switched from R6 to R6 mk2… I enjoy the improvements in AF accuracy, stickiness and speed. The extra 25% of mpixel helps with detail. It seems to me that R6mk2 has a better AF than the R5 and seems to be closer to the lovely R3.

Even the Mk1 is going to be a massive upgrade when it comes to speed and autofocus (I went from an RP to R6, very similar)
I have the R also, I’m holding out for the r6 mark III!
I LOVE my R6 Mark ii. My sharpness and clarity rate is super high with this. You should definitely keep it!😊
I highly recommend you keep it. I believe it is worth the upgrade over your R6.
The R6 MKII is the best camera I have ever used! And yes I did own the R6.
I have R6 II and R5c and I only use the R6ii for photography. The 6k / 24mp is perfect for photos and the colors and tracking are perfect.
I just bought this model 2 months ago - obsessed! Bit of a learning curve going from MKiii to mirrorless but it’s sooo good.
Ok you made my final decision for me! Now what lens to buy?!?!? Keep my old lens and adaptor or spend and get the rf lens?

Keep it,is amazing I’ve been using for a year now
i had the r6 and when i got markii, i didn't think i would like it as much as i do.... definitely worth it
I went from the R to the R6mii.
For moving subjects the AF really shines!
I still love my R6 and have no complaints. I have been tempted to get the Mark II, but at this point, I may just wait for the Mark III.
Great review. I've been using the Mark II for over a year, and I still am impressed with the images it helps me capture.
If you have to zoom in to see noise that means there is no noise. The human eye doesn’t zoom in. What do you call a person looking at a four x six foot print hanging on a wall with a magnifying glass? A photographer.
That's a good one and great point. There never will be perfection when it comes to cameras.
Yep
What about cropping? It is a very common thing to do to get the right framing (although I wouldn't do it with only 24mp). Cropping is effectively a zoom in.
Well said
Thanks for your video, Katelyn. Nicely presented. The photo images look so good with limited camera settings and adjustments. Your daughter doe's make for a real good model. Good job little girl.
Too cool! Keep it and sell the R6 to offset the cost...
Had an R6 and got the R6 mk two. I find the mkII to be much quicker. For wildlife I find the focus fast and the tracking much improved.
The R6 MK II AF is insanely good over the R6. Also color balance is better. I shoot action and that AF never missed. I enjoyed watching you convince yourself this is a good upgrade
Would you consider composting to R5 mkii??
I have the R6 mark ii and I absolutely love it!
Upgraded from the R6 to the mark 2 soon as it was available. However today I prefer the R5 for photos and the R6mk2 mostly for videos.
I own both and I can say the high iso performance on the original R6 beats the mk2, just slightly. The highlight recovery on the original is also slightly better but the mk2 is better in terms of base iso shadow recovery
You are going to love the R6 mkII. And btw, the Mark VI was one of the most famous saxophones ever made, by Selmer (Paris) in the 1950s and ‘60s.
Will you do VIDEO on your settings for the best picture quality please for this exact camera?
You may want to try a little faster shutter speed and on the movement shoots.
This was so helpful! Thanks for showing it and testing it!
Your so fun and educational, I love my mark 2
haha I loved this because we bought the R5 MarkII and the switch of off/on is driving me nuts! But I LOVE the new camera! Selling all our R5s this month!!
Do you have a video on how to get your settings dialed in on the mii?
I watched your flash review about godox and am seriously considering changing to them as i have a mixed bag of flashes 580EX 580EX mark2 and a 600EX RT so two optical and one radio,, i do have godox triggers and a controller ,so would like to hear if your views on godox still remain the same as canon gear is expensive in the UK
aww.. your daughter is so beautiful!!!
Excellent video! 👏🏿
I bought my R6 when I did because I knew I had a need for it.
I am so glad you made this I definitely wait on your advice on these things!
I am using the OG R6 for all my video stuff. I think I might pickup the R6 MK III if it has the BSI stacked sensor and CLOG 2
I will wait till the Mk iii comes out and buy the Mk ii discounted even more. You are keeping it so it must be worth the upgrade thx 🙏
Great video, but I think the timing is pretty bad - the rumors are that the R6MK3 are coming out any month now. I would not pay full price for an MK2 this close to a new model release.
I definitely love my r6ii. Shutter speed was fairly slow for a running photo. Probably needed more than 1/320th
Well, looks like like I’ll be ordering one for aviation photography 😊
Great review. Such as nice pace. Please do more. You should have a million subs. Subscribed. Love from England 🏴
I’m getting it soon. Trading my original R6 to the mark II
This is my gimbal cam. The oversampled 4K 60fps is butter
Love mine! Only problem is the moire at some groom suits!
Did you do some comparison shots between the mark I and mark II to see if one is better than the other at different ISOs as far as noise?
Katelyn, what lens do you have on it for these shots? Just curious. I am buying the R6MKII or the R5MKII this month.
I would wait myself for the new model about to be announced.
Very helpful! I need a back up camera so definitely going to get this one:)
I got the mark ii about a month ago and I LOVE IT.
The only thing that drives me insane is the other placement of the on and off switch, I keep on switching to video instead of turning my camera on 😂 other than that it’s amazing
That was great review, thank you 🙏
LOL! I still love going to Best Buy in person! I was born in 89. Haha! If you purchase their total tech membership you automatically have protection on purchases and the restocking fee is waved.
Love my R6MKII!
I’m getting one 🎉
