That would be a Corolla. Badging it as a Celica is silly. I could see them doing a hatchback 4 door version of the 86, but why? Maybe just to sell more cars, but it wouldn't land well IMO
If they could get the GR86 up to at least 250 lbft of torque they would really have something. About 285 Hp and 250 torque would make it a really competetive sports car. Shaving a second off the six second 0-60 would make a dramatic difference

I really like the current 86 with the Subaru engine. It’s like a baby Porsche. And the 86/BRZ platform is a special platform containing a lot of SGP technology with some TNGA technology. If the new 86 is not developed by Subaru, I’d be disappointed. And 4-door is unacceptable for a 86.
Very cool to see, glad we're getting another "hakone". I do hope they at least don't make the 86 throttle curve worse, because it's already hilariously bad. From the research I've done and friends I've spoken to, you're getting 100% acceleration at under 50% throttle input, making any input past halfway effectively worthless. The BRZ does not have this issue and is much more natural and linear, so it's clearly just something tuned in to make the 86 seem faster.

The twins are amazing for me the formula is perfect for having fun on the streets. Not all of us can access a track where more speed is allowed. Sub 3000 lbs over 200hp 3 pedals & RWD are the stats I cherish. You can put foot to the floor and not be flung off the road and have a moment to enjoy getting to 60. If under 4 seconds you can’t really enjoy accelerating before you get to speed limit. This is my 1st car that I’d definitely buy another if anything happens

86 should stay N/A with a high revving linear engine. But Toyota doesn’t have one in their lineup. It’d be cool if they converted their new 2.0T to NA and had a GE version specifically for the 86. But that’s wishful thinking lol
it needs to still be affordable so thats why it could get the 1.5 if theyre going to keep in the toyota family and i think they want a smaller engine. they could use a detuned 1.6 too

Wouldn’t they have to do a pretty big design overhaul to make that engine a viable candidate for the 86? I guess the same could be said if they decided to use the 2.0 engine in NA form, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they already have an NA GE variant of that engine ready to go, as Toyota has done similar in the past. They have been developing this 2.0L for several years so a variant without a turbo could be very likely.
To be honest, I don't mind the 4 door over the coupe, as it's going to be cheaper to insure, olus the possibility of a wagon version is cool as well as we haven't seen sporty estate cars in years, aside from Audi anyway.

I like the GR86. Basically a supra minus the high price, and 220hp with the weight ect is quite good still. You'll be smoking most cars still. And with a little tune that thing can prob push 235-240 without any issues.
If the brought in a 3 door hatch model as well as the coupe for the next generation, we could very well have another Levin and Trueno situation on hands. I’d be disappointed in a turbo tho, much rather prefer a 8k rpm or capable NA engine for the next generation car

I want the 2025 gr86 to have a hybrid engine with extra focus on paddle shifters with about 250 hp. More storage space in the trunk. And simple steel wheels like the ones in old porsches and simple cloth seats, and decent sound system. If it’s 4 doors, even better. It has the potential to be the most affordable fun car to drive daily, even during rush hours with slow moving traffic. 35-45 mpg. $25000 base model msrp. Loving the 4dr design in that magazine picture.
Sounds like you would like the new Elantra N with the 8-speed DCT transmission. It's FWD but still a fun, usable car. Not the most reliable because of Hyundai

I would not be opposed to renaming the 86 to "Celica" and making the coupe the "86 Trim" with a 4-door and wagon trim.
