    I love high displacement V8s but Porche is doing something interesting with making a hybrid turbo. Basically they sandwich an electric motor between the intake and exhaust impellers to insta-spool the turbo before the exhaust pressure builds, so you can (this isn't what they're doing) have a small, high strung turbo 4cyl with a bunch of turbo lag, but fill in the low end with electric motor and/or spool MUCH quicker with an (as Garrett call it) e-turbo.
    I could see Honda maybe doing something with an e-turbo mild hybrid coupe in the nearish future. They're new and very expensive right now, but I see no reason why they shouldn't come down in price as the newness fades.

The four door/wagon models would be surprising to see, but I think it being an 86/Prius fusion of sorts would make it ideal for the many people who can only have one car. It would definitely be nice to have a small RWD four door on the market.

  • @SkyWKing
    @SkyWKing 3 месяца назад +4

    I think the hybrid system for the GR86 will be a mild hybrid. The iForce Max powertrain adds 350-400 lbs of weight which on a light sports car is a huge amount of weight. Toyota recently launched the 48V mild hybrid system for the Hilux and it adds around 35 kg (~80 lbs) while providing a 12kW(~16hp) and 65N.m(~48lb.ft) boost from a small motor and lightweight battery. Since this system uses a belt-driven motor generator it also allows the use of a manual transmission. It will also be cheaper for an entry-level sports car.

    I think the Skyline is definitely coming in 2025 for the Japanese market at least because Nissan in Japan is doing well and wanting to keep up the momentum for their upcoming ARC lineup. Skyline is also Nissan’s only sedan offering in Japan so Nissan is very serious in replacing it as soon as possible. Nissan in USA is all messed up though, with EVs being a failure in general and Nissan cars not selling well. So I don’t see Nissan building the Skyline/Q50 in the US quite yet, although they better be coming in Japan by 2025. Right now, Infiniti is picking up good momentum with their new QX60 and QX80 products. They better not miss the Q50 or it’ll be over for them. Nissan has been stupid far to long! All they have to do is get rid of the cvt or made is reliable! The funny thing is Toyota makes cvts and they last. I think Nissan is way to cheap or stupid or both! I like the recent Nissan designs but that cvt they can keep that smh!

    1.upcoming Gr86/BRZ will be fantastic and excellent. 2.upcoming HONDA PRELUDE is just going to be a better looking civic or Accord in two door couple style and nothing else .3 UPCOMING Lexus coupe will combined LC and RC into one luxury coupe which is the right move. 4. UPCOMING LFA replacement will be fantastic and can't wait for it. Can't wait until all these vehicles come out .

    Mild-Hybrid CAN be manual.
    I do have a mild hybrid Ford with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
    On my car the system gives a boost when accelerating, powers the electrical and can turn off the engine while coasting under 20km/h to a stop

    Prelude in 3 trims Sport Hybrid, Sport Touring Hybrid and Si with a manual available (hopefully) mimicing-ish the Civic since they will use the Civic drive train and (again hopefully) keeping the vehicle near Civic pricing. If it sells well they bring a type-R in 2 years.

    How would it be a BRZ without a boxer, though? It’s literally in the name. If Toyota goes that route, wouldn’t it just become its own thing separate from the BRZ? Also, it’s still in its 3rd model year. Bit soon for a complete redesign.

    When Subaru eventually re-releases the STi, i wouldnt be suprized if it 1) was a hybrid, 2) was full on EV or 3) was a combination of the two where a combustion engine powers the front wheels, while an electric motor powers the rear wheels (like the AWD Corolla). In any case, it should remain a boxer layout powertrain unless it's the GR Corolla/Yaris engine... or a flat 6 hybrid for the STi.

    On one hand its great that Toyota wants to keep the GR86 alive by giving it an engine that allows it to be sold with stricter emissions. On the other hand I dont want to see a turbocharged engine in it and I am worried the I3 is gonna raise the COG. Could defeat the purpose of the car.

    Honda Prelude should be (as it has always been) an Accord coupe with a manual transmission and a powerful 4-cylinder engine. Considering today’s engine line up, I’d say it should be something along the lines of an Accord coupe with the Civic Type R drivetrain.
