- It has been a while since I have done a song, hopefully I can start getting more done now that summer is over. After Brad, Steven and I recorded our cover of Painted Ladies by Ian Thomas, I talked with Brad about doing another song. I remembered at the time he mentioned that he would like to do a cover of Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog, one of his favorite songs. I finally got around to putting together the music for the song in late October. The Drums and Bass were programmed into reaper using midi, and I played the guitar tracks. Brad was adament that I put a lead solo in there somewhere, so I complied haha. Brads vocals were done one fine evening in November, and all I can say is wow!
I asked Brad if he had any words to add about the project, and he replied with this...
For me, this is not just a tribute to two of my singer/songwriter heroes, Eddie Vedder and the late great Chris Cornell along with their bands Pearl Jam and Soundgarden Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready, Matt Cameron (both bands), Kim Thayil, Hiro Yamamoto, Jason Everman, Ben Sheppard. And, let's not forget Boom (you're a fucking rockstar), who's been with PJ since 2022.This is also a tribute to the charismatic frontman of Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood, whose death, while tragic, was the catalyst for the album Temple of the Dog and the genesis of (in my mind) the best band alive today, PJ. I have had the pleasure of seeing the best ever live band, PJ, perform many times. The best being at Fenway in 2018! Unfortunately I never did see Chris Cornell live with Soundgarden, Audioslave or solo...it is one of my biggest regrets. RIP Andrew and Chris...say hello to heaven for all of us!
