My infantry unit was sent to the Horn of Africa in 2003, just after a tour in Afghanistan. We were in some camp with a French name and a bunch of Legionnaires. This band, dude...they flew out from the States to play for us. Where we were my dudes, was not safe at all. The band is crazy. There I am in the Camp French cantina, having a Heineken, watching Collective Soul play live to maybe a couple hundred Marines and Legionnaires. They played everything, a full set. If they were nervous, they didn't show it. It's one of the fondest memories I have from the time and in a sea of bad memories. The Marine Corps has two bands as far as I'm concerned, and these cats are one of them. Total class.

Man, ain’t that the truth? Mainstream music is so dull and lacking any type of emotion and introspection these days. When art suffers so does the culture.
I'm 41, and still listen to this song today. So many amazing songs were born from the 90s, and folks today don't even know how deeply they touched out hearts. Like it was something special we may never have again.
It was November 1995. I was 15 and this song had just released as a single. I was in Wal-mart (before the super walmarts) with my mom when saw the single on cassette and asked her to buy it for me. I remember so vividly listing to it on the way home in the 1991 chevy S-10 while looking out at the over cast November sky. I know this isn't some profound memory but it's still one I am very fond of. This song always takes me back to that time. The 90's were awesome. Anytime I play I gig, I make sure I cover this song using my 12 string.
Any memory evoked with such emotion after that many years is profound. Our memories are our stories about who we are. This is a lovely moment and it gave me joy, thank you for sharing. Edited to say I was 24 in 1995 and suicidal. I remember seeing the video and sob/laughing along with the actor when the bird landed on him as he prepared to jump. The absurdity of the world and the longing in the singer's voice helped me get perspective, if only for one little moment. And I've been able to hold on to that for 25 years of building little moments to stop me from falling.
Sometimes the right song is there right when you need it. Thank God for artists who create things that affect us so deeply! I'm so glad you're still here!

That haunting droning groove, such great silky strumming on the 12-string and such perfect melodic sprinkling on the other acoustic. When a song seems to have written itself, it's the mark of a good songwriter.
Ricky D I agree. If the message is pure, then I like any type of music. I like when musicians strip themselves down like this. So many people overproduce.

Well it was emotional for Ed because World I know resonated with so many people.
The song is what we need right now. Not hard to see what is going on in our country.
Love these guys ⚘❤
One of the Best songs ever written. And this new acoustic version in that great studio is a Classic already. 🎉 Congrats Masters.
Collective Soul was the best thing to come out of the 90’s.
Not just them. But they were a part of the 90s. There is 7M3 too. Don't forget them. Awesome band.
The 90's were the best...period.
Tanker1106
Agreed,without question.
Let's not get too hasty
Sounds BETTER than in his heyday. Pretty awesome. His singing has improved a lot since 95
or... maybe you could just listen... no one cares about your review
@@Dick_Dynamite but they care about your review of my comments? That's not the world I know...
What. This is an awesome song
@@VanishedPNW I see what you did there... nice.
Really hope the audio engineer has been promoted a few times since this was recorded... holy shit
Ed Roland is the master... you didn't appreciate as a kid in the 90's... thank god for him and CS
That 12 string audio is making love to my ears, cheers to that
12 strings are so damn cool...its like a producer layered a double acoustic live
Are we listening
Silly as it is... This song brings me to tears. Nostalgia shoot's through me like a wildfire 🥺
Same here brother...
Helluva song. Played on the Muzak where I work. Makes me stop and reflect. Amen!
we mindlessly work and they said stop and smell the flowers, the vedio shows what they have instored for your future generations, ummmm so strange, u should see him go at the land, like it fresh meat, yes welcome to the machine! ummmm
This song reminds me of early mornings riding the school bus on a long lonely desert highway.
One of the most underrated bands.
F#$n incredible! I’ve loved this band since I was 13 years old and I’m 37 now. Thankyou collective soul for being awesome throughout these years! Can’t wait to see you soon in Vancouver!!! First concert in years!

midwayer godman same here!!!
37, as well. This song is just breathtaking every time.
The seventies, the eighties, the nineties, the last decades of a great American society.
Yep. Without Trump or any white pride rallies.
I remember buying this album and popping in the radio on the way home with my dad. We got into a car accident and my father died and this song was on when we had our car upside down and he sat there next to me lifeless. I will always remember this song and think of my father. RIP
I’m so sorry
Sorry to hear this may God bring you peace
What 83 people give this a thumbs down?!?!? Gorgeous acoustic version!
I loved the music of the nineties thanks to my grandson. Collective Soul is one of my favorites. I love this one ❤️
this song was a great company of my days on 1997 ,and so on til today
Ed is an incredibly gifted songwriter who himself has been gifted by the knowledge (I hope he has) of touching so many people. Thank you for your contributions.
...Beautiful. ...Complex. ...Touches one's Soul. ..... ...Absolutely Beautiful. ...Complex. ...Absolutely Touches one's Soul.
As the tears roll down
Moved to CA. in 1994. I remember this song well. I do miss the 90s. Things were never the same after 2k. Thats the World i knew.
Think as he got older he got more wiser even with his voice. Will always love collective soul.
...hopefully...
This should be spread everywhere now
Unreal performance! The melody is just beautiful ❤️ the audio is also very crisp, sound engineer is doing it right ❤️
When this song came out my son and I listened to it in my 95 Supra, great times! now he is dead from a Fentanyl overdose, my life is all memories now of these great times together! God bless you Seth Clayton Stephen 26 forever!

SETH CLAYTON STEPHENS
Wow, his voice has aged remarkable well.
Real band ,real talent, standing the test of time,, I'll always love ❤️ this band.
This song makes me feel young and old as shit at the same time.
It’s an absolute shame that our children can’t have an experience like growing up in the 80s and 90s.
I'm only 17 and this band has and will always have a special place in my heart
This song saved me from suicide at seventeen
Good choice kid
Great lyrics and musics!
Hard to believe that two guys can make such beautiful music.
A great vocal really brings out the instruments
That haunting droning groove, such great silky strumming on the 12-string and such perfect melodic sprinkling on the other acoustic. When a song seems to have written itself, it's the mark of a good songwriter.
I feel like this is one of those songs where the band will just never comprehend how much it means to some people.
Its almost 2024 and I was 24 when that album was released and it still brings out emotions. Timeless and this is a great performance
I’ve never been a Collective Soul fan, but this is pretty wonderful.
How can you not be a fan? ?
xx JahoviA xx
They were just overplayed in the 90s.
Not everybody's cup of tea BUT they were and apparently are pure talent no matter the style... 🤙🤙🤙👍👍👍
Ricky D I agree. If the message is pure, then I like any type of music. I like when musicians strip themselves down like this. So many people overproduce.
Fine musicians.
Greatest Christian rock band ever!. God bless. May a good thing happen to all of you today. America strong
I miss the 90’s, especially the music ❤️
i was 12 when this song was released but still fresh in my mind time fly by now im 39 still i love this song
Man the 90's produced some great bands, Live, Collective Sou,l Pearl Jam Alice in Chains to name a few! Wow!!!
Indeed. 7Mary3, Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots and Bush were good too.
This is what we need in 2020.
Ed's voice sounds a little like Cat Steven's voice here (to me). I'm ready to hear Ed sing Father And Son by Cat Stevens now.
Totally. Bang on.
Nice call.
Exactly
That would be a perfect unexpected treasure! Hope he reads your post, or has an unconscious synergetic, symmetry, realization in his unconscious accidental mind meld with you! Great idea!
@Rhett Christopher .. A1 agreed. Ms. Rhett if you hadn't mentioned it, I was thinking Cat Stevens ...
time goes by and good things remain
I loved this CD it was definitely the best they made, all the songs had deep meaningful lyrics.
Still one of very favorites to this day!!
Where the river flows
December
Bleed
Gel
masterpiece for sure
Holy shit! That was fantastic! The sound was epic!
One of the best songs ever written
Wow he sounds amazing in a completely different way than the older version.
I know a lot of singers voices change as they age but he really kept the quality
Omg, his voice is even better now....such a gorgeous tone, and beautiful guitar work guys!
Thank you for a wonderful show in Paso Robles. 08.20.22.....still kicking ass!
Love this song
Let’s not look back at the 90s and *miss* the lives we had - let’s live in the present and *appreciate* what the 90s gave us
Such a beautiful underrated song. chills everytime I hear it
Such a beautiful song. I didn't appreciate it when I was a teenager. I now see how true and inspiring it really is. The Lord speaks through certain musicians. God bless them!
Still perfect. Unbelievable voice, this band should have been bigger.
Friends with John Roland. Incredible guy always wondered about his brother. May God open his eyes to the Truth.
