My god, what the hell did I just watch?? This is flat-out the most perfect replication of Chicago tune in history. It is more accurate then anything Chicago themselves ever did. Every single nuance and micro nuance of Peter cetera's original vocals has been accurately replicated here.... and unbelievably, Terry kath's original epic solo has been completely replicated to the last note and nuance. I'm completely in shock and awestruck.

Sergey was a natural, super talented guitarist, with the guitar seemingly a permanent part of him. Missing him and Serge, two incredible people. These guys speak very little English, with the exception of Leonid's son, yet their pronunciation is almost perfect while singing. I'm still awed that Russians are honoring an American band. Leonid's story of growing up under communism is inspiring.

Sergey's guitar work on this some of the best on the internet. He just channels Terry Kath. So many chances to soar on this one and he takes them all. The rhythm section is killing it too. Leonid and Igor more than just covering the original. Leonid shows what a phenomenal bass player Cetera was in his prime. And Igor is one of the worlds great drummers. Let's not forget the bass player. If the bass part rounds out the song, isn't rushed, isn't otherwise noticeable, then it's perfect. This band is fantastic all the way around. The singer sounds surprisingly like Cetera.

I agree. Speaking of the horns, I played solo bari sax in a stage band in the '70s and this song was one of our staples. We did our own jazzy all instrumental version of it, not a cover. The bari part was (is) repetitive and takes a lot of wind. It wasn't one of my favorites to play but the audience always seemed to like it. It's not easy to sound that tight.

My wife and I caught the 'Leonid and Friends" show in Ft. Wayne, Indiana on Oct. 27 and it honestly far exceeded our expectations. It can be very difficult to sound as good when playing live as when in the recording studio, but the group absolutely sounded fantastic. The audience was all standing at the end of the show and calling for an encore, which the band provided. There manager, too, did a terrific job of engaging with the audience.
The next day my wife and I stopped in to Sweetwater Music Center (a huge nationally known music center located in Ft. Wayne) and saw members of the group in the store. I generally never approach celebrities in public since I don't want to interfere with their privacy but we did end up approaching (after apologizing profusely for the intrusion) the table where several were seated simply to let them know how much we enjoyed the show. I have to say that they were incredibly pleasant and appreciative. I intentionally kept our interaction brief but I have to say that the reaction we received further cemented my impressions that this group of musicians is truly unique.
We drove up from Florida to catch the show and it was well worth the trip. If you get a chance to see the band live don't fail to do so.

    • @joe_d1352
      @joe_d1352 5 лет назад

Not every tune is note for note. Leonid and Friends add some embellishments that you will not hear on the original recordings (sax solo, string sections etc.).In respect to listening - the technology that exists now far outweighs what was available 50 years ago. I still listen to my old Chicago albums once in a while, but once I heard the quality of Leonid's recordings the old Chicago albums are spending more time on the shelf.I had the pleasure of seeing the original Chicago lineup 6 or 7 time in the early seventies. No-one will match those performances, not even the current line up of Chicago. I'll have my chance to see if Leonid and Friends are even close to Chicago in a live performance in Clearwater Florida next month. They kick off their U.S. tour in LA in a little over 2 weeks.

I'm not trying to take anything away from this band, in fact I would gladly see them, they are all fantastic musicians, but realize what you're hearing are many multiple tracks and with many musicians recorded with excellent modern production and post production audio equipment and software. While of course the original Chicago recorded multi track (like all bands) it was just the 7 of them, drummer, guitarist, bass, keys and three horns, and they sounded fantastic live despite lacking the control of digital processing at the time. When Leonid and Friends tour, the're using up to 11 musicians on stage to recreate Chicago's sound. Then there is the whole subject of creating of such fantastic songs. Better than Chicago? Quite silly.

    • @MichaelWalkerWV2SC
      @MichaelWalkerWV2SC 4 года назад +2

@@frankkolton1780 Leonid and Friends sound amazingly close to the original recordings of all the songs they cover because that's what they had to copy. Leonid was a very accomplished composer and musician in Moscow before retiring at age 60 I guess 3 or 4 years ago.
As a gift to himself he took the original song by Chicago and transcribed the music for each instrument by ear. He noticed that the studio version of several Chicago songs had more instruments than the live version. He went with what he knew and loved and enlisted the assistance of around 11 singer/musicians he was very familiar with. Most of them speak very little English but that doesn't really matter, you copy what you hear as you hear it. When people say better than Chicago, they mean better than Chicago can play the songs now, not the original recording. The lead vocalist can hit notes Peter Cetera rarely could outside the studio. I've never seen anyone come that close to Terry Kath on the lead guitar as this young man does.
Chicago stopped recording albums before Bill Champlin left and became effectively a tribute band to themselves. Robert Lamm and Jim Pankow are great entertainers and musicians and have been for over 50 years. Lamm wrote 25 or 6 to 4 in 1969 and it was on their second album, climbing to #5 on the singles charts. That version is all Leonid knows so that's how they play it.

This is technically and acoustically better than Chicago's original version. Thank you. It was a pleasure to listen to your rendition.

I agree. They reproduce with perfection on how the original is played. I'm a musician looking at all parts and see the excellence. The Musical Box does the same with Genesis perfecting how it was originally played.

I already have my ticket to The Fab Four at the Palace of fine Art's in SF, Ca not on sale to the public yet March 2018. This will be the 2nd year in a row in the 2nd row where nobody sits in the front row. Not a bad seat in the house. Kinda like an IMAX theatre. I agree with the analogy. Been into CTA since the 1st album back in the day wore it out immediately. Introduction...was in Terry head, WTF? Yowza! Listen to them here: ruclips.net/video/u2jzBxmhjZs/видео.html

Studa, I just saw Chicago last Summer and I can say they didn't sound anything like this. These gys are beyond good and I have to admit, in my opinion, better than Chicago.

I guess from some of the comments I've read nobody has considered the very diverse ages of all involved(that's SO cool btw) and that English isn't their first language and its very hard to learn, especially switching alphabets too! Just THE biggest props to them!!!

My heart hurts for the guitarist and vocalist who have been separated from the band for sad reasons of war and politics. I am American and this is shocking, very shocking to even an African American.

1:52 This band is GREAT!!! Saw them On The Blue Cruise 2024 ; the place was rocking and everyone was blown away! The brass, sax, vocals, and rhythm section are all top notch. Added bonus - band members are very friendly. See them once and you’ll be back again. GO!!!
