What a beautiful shawl. The next time I watch you, I will try to crochet alongside with you 😊. You’re an awesome teacher. Thank you for your patience of teaching. You see, I’m new in crochet world and I’m a visual learner and don’t understand patterns. Thank you 🙏😘💖🦋🌻
Oh my Jonna! You couldn’t have been more clear in this tutorial!!! Thank you so very much. I love how well you explain each step & you crochet beautifully. Please keep making these videos. You are amazing!!!
This is so wonderful to hear! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. With this kind of encouragement I will for sure keep making videos. Thank you. 🌸🌸
Tried to do this one on my own. I've only ever followed 2 patterns even though I've been crocheting for over 40 years. Thank you for teaching this old dog some new tricks. I can now figure out the rest in order to enlarge it using a fingering yarn and smaller hook. Thanks again.
My old eyes find it hard to read patterns these days so I just love the way you talk me through the rows - also, this is turning out to be a really fun project! Many thanks 🙂
Thank you so much for these instructional videos. Thought this shawl was going to be very difficult to make but you made it very simple. Did want to make everyone aware that in the written pattern there is a mistake for Row 18. It leaves out the ch 2 between your second DC and second set of double clusters for the row. I was going by the pattern and had to pull out this entire row because it throws the shawl off balance. Just an FYI. BTW using the red heart ombre yarn and it is making a beautiful shawl.
Amazing, thank you so much - this is definitely my next project. You are so easy to follow, one of the best people to follow on here. I have subscribed.
What ever you make I'm making lol... this is great right now I'm at 18:41 and I got to say you make it super easy to follow along with... I know nothing about crochet and I just bought the stuff about two weeks ago because I have always been interested in it so this is my first project... thank you souch.. So far it's looking good... :-)
+Lourdes Romualdo that's amazing! Welcome to crochet!! I'm so happy you enjoy my videos. Thank you for watching and commenting. Keep up the good work!! 💕🌸🌸🌸
Very clear and easy to follow, thank you! I thought this shawl was going to be very difficult to make but you made it very simple. The matching color of your hook, yarn and nail polish is mesmerising to watch.
That's so much for sharing this beautiful shawl! I'm making it with Caron yarn & fingering weight also You're so easy to follow & love all of your tutorials!!❤
Thank heavens I found your video early on when I have been trying to learn how to crochet. I was able to follow your video easily while I found others confusing. I really liked the way the video showed the close up of your hands and the way you explained everything very clearly. I was able to finish the shawl and it is just beautiful. I am now starting a second shawl using your video. Thank you again for such a great, easy to follow video.
+Tom Howard I am so happy to hear what you liked about this video! It really helps me improve in the right ways. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! 🌸🌸🌸
Thank you showing us how to crochet a shawl For the first time I am going to be able to make something from beginning to end. I know this took a lot of time but the reward is that the shawl is pretty and perfect . What a nice thing to do. 😊
+Carol Baesler I am so happy you liked the video and project! It's very rewarding to get to finish something!! Good for you! Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸🌸🌸🌸
Thank you so much for this video. Can't wait to start the next one......but unfortunately it's almost bedtime. Oh well! Tomorrow is another day. Your videos are awesome, so easy to follow along and your voice is very soothing. You are a great teacher. Thank you again. ❤️
God bless your heart Jonna; thank you so much for the tutorial you make it super easy to follow. I have done part 1 and yes I'm on part2 at 32:46. I wanted to finish before commenting but I can't keep this joy longer than I have; from the look of things it looks great. Thank you so much and may God continue to bless the works of your hands.
i love this tutorial SO MUCH!! I'm making this right now for my mom with a speckled charcoal color, but next im going to make it again with lion brand cupcake yarn in "tundra". thank you for making such easy to follow tutorials! this looks so complicated but your videos make it easy.
R🌹..I just started this project with cotton kings twirl purple/black yarn💜🖤💜 in crochet hook 4...can’t wait to see the end result ..thanks Jo for the clear explanation..🥰
I LOVE HOW U TEACH US U TAKE TIME OUT TO LET US UNDERSTAND IT SO MUCH. THANK U VERY MUCH I AM GOING TO LOOK IF I CAN FIND A LINK FOR U THAT I CAN SEE MORE OF YOUR PATTERN TO WORK OFF GOD BLESS U CONTINUES DO WHAT THE LORD INSPIRED U TO DO BLESSING BLESSING FROM JAMAICA
+Siobhan Roberts I am so happy that you enjoyed this three-part tutorial! And I am very happy that you made it too ! Thank you for watching and commenting.
it's fun to watch...seems not too difficult...you're really good...I've done few projects with you...like the way you explain and show your work as you go along....can't wait to start...!!
Hi jonna just finished my shawl may I say ive seen lots and lots of videos but may I say this is one of the best , I just want to say thank you so much you made it easy to follow no rush like some videos your a great teacher of crochet thank you again Fran
I’m very happy to hear you enjoyed my video!! It’s good to know you liked the pace. Then I better know where to go with new videos. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you so much for this well thought out video tutorial! Your angles with the camera, lighting and choice of color made for easy visual cues. You took your time to explain exactly what we needed to do to be successful. I feel this is by far the best tutorial on youtube. Thank you for a successful class. (I used DK weight yarn with a J hood. It is more of a shawlette, but I am going to try to make another in a worsted weight yarn.)
I definitely agree that this is the best set of tutorials on RUclips for crochet. Ditto on your explanations, lighting, close-up, and color of yarn making visuals so easy to see. I'm right along with you ready to start row 23. 👍
As usual, excellent tutorial! Thanks Jonna. I've always been intimidated by pineapple patterns but you really did a great job on this so I may have to try it!
+Florence Kalma I think you'll find pineapples are super fun! Let me know when you start this and I'm always around for questions. Thank you for watching and commenting!
After having great success with the Virus Shawl, and having made half a dozen of those, I felt confident about trying my first pineapple pattern. This is a great!!!tutorial! I'm at row 20 and I've only had to go over row 19 (I think it was, where you began your first row in white) a few times at the beginning to get it...but I succeeded. It looks gorgeous so far. I'm using a turquoise colour yarn. Thanks so much for your easy to understand directions and great photography.
This is a great video! Thank you for being so clear and easy to follow. I'm making this now and I even found the exact Caron Cakes yarn in the same Color you've got.
Thank you for a really easy to follow pattern. I’m making this for my hairdresser who’s pregnant to use when feeding her baby in her mums ( who she recently lost ) favourite colour so that she feels her mum is with her when having precious moments with her baby x her mums colour was violet so works for either sex as they aren’t finding out what they are having. So once again THANK YOU XX
Hello Jonna, this is the first time I have watched one of your videos hun, I just want to say I will defiantly be doing the shawl. the way you teach is so very easy not only to follow but also to listen to babe. you have such a raw talent bless you, I have listened to many since I learned to crochet and there is only a handful of people I can comfortably listen to. you my lovely I have to say are up there with the very best, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. 😊❤😊❤😊❤ God Bless
Thanks for another superb video! I love this shawl and will be making it just as soon as I can finish another few projects I have in progress. Caron Cakes is a great yarn choice, too. Like someone else mentioned, I would love to see this pattern as a poncho. Thanks for making such clear videos and being a wonderful teacher!!
I am almost finished with the picots - I made this in teal & royal blue using Mary Maxim Sugar Baby Stripes yarn (cool mint color ) for a friend who is having a birthday in a few more days. It turned out very pretty. I had the yarn on hand, but I would really like to make another (or more) with Caron Cakes, too. I have some Caron Cakes pistachio on hand so I think I'll try that next. It only took me a couple of evenings to make this blue one - Your video helped SO MUCH!!!
I love your videos I only wish you would say when your changing colors because I get down with a row and go to start the next to find out the whole last row should be another color!!! Lol other then that its great!!
I'm making 2 simultaneously, different sized yarns and hooks, both are quite puckered where the 4 together clusters are. May make the next doing just a 3 together cluster. Yours is fab and no puckers!
This is absolutely beautiful! Your teaching skills are university quality. I would love if you would make this into a poncho. I know your brain can do it. I hope that the poncho tutorial will soon follow.
You are so kind! Since I only have my GED this is a very big complement! I would love to turn this into a poncho. I have contacted the pattern writer to see if she is interested as it is hers. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I love the way you crochet and your voice is very easy to listen to, plus the way you place your work for the camera is brilliant. Can I just check one thing with you? I've read the pattern that at row 16 there are still the same clusters, that only increases to 3 clusters at row 17, what do you think?
Hi, Joanna. This shawl is so lovely and your instructions are super clear, but I don't seem to find the correct thead to make It. I'm in my second try and, again, it's getting too small. Like, half of yours. Any tips? Thank tou!
I made it to the second part!! I thought this was going to be a LOT more complicated than it was because of how intricate it is! The one I'm doing now is a "practice run" because the yarn I got is a royal pain for frogging and I don't want to waste yarn lol. The only concern I have is that my practice shawl may be a bit small as I'm using slightly thinner yarn and smaller hook! (Oh well! I know a few kiddos that would love to have a shawl!)
I'm having the same problem, as my yarn is much smaller than hers. I figure I can just add another layer of pineapples if it still looks too small. Should be easy enough to adapt it.
For those who are Following the List of Rows:Very Confusing. If you Follow the Video with Sound Up, Row 19 (15:42), Row 20 (18:56) then Row 21 (22:08). Hope this Helps? 😊😊😊😊
I don’t get it - row 22 I have the 7 loops from the previous row and when I continue on (after taking out the entire row) I have 7 loops - not the 6 that you have in row 22. Argh I can’t figure it out.
I'm using Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in color 'Cool Stripe'. I wanted it to be peacock colors and I think it is. It's looking great! Oh and so far I'm on my second skein. Bought 3 just in case.
Thanks for a great vedio, it is so well made that even I can figure it out 👍🌹. What do I do now, my shawl has become too small, can I crochet something further and how ?. Regards Sanne from Denmark
Is there a diagram for this design? I saw the written pattern on Ravelry (and the correction), but I would like a diagram if anyone knows where to find it. Thanks.
dont know if you will see this jonna but there is a row missing between row 13 and row 14 or between part one and the change to part two. i saw it when i started to watch part two. at 3.32 on the video when you are holding up the shawl you can clearly see it. the row that has 7 dc in the 3ch space between the trebles is missing from the instructions. other than that you are brilliant at what you do
I'm new here and I'm having trouble getting a paper copy of the Pineapple Peacock shawl. The one in the tutorial seems very different than the other pineapple shawl. I need to do have the easier pattern. Does anyone know where I can find the pattern. Thank you.
I have a problem. Patons Brilliant Light 3 3.75mm US F/5 Marvelous Mocha Color 4913 50g / 1.75oz 69% Acrylic 31% Polyester I can take a guess this is the wrong yarn am I right? What could I make with this yarn?
+Peggy McKinney that would make a gorgeous light blanket. (Lots of options from c2c, virus blanket, call the midwife blanket) Or you could make a difference shawl. Like the virus shawl. It sounds lovely! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Well I got myself different yarn to make this shawl. Caron Simply Soft Teal Zeal Ombre 470 yds. Hopefully it will be enough. It is a beautiful shawl and your a great teacher. Time to go back to part 1 LOL
Most likely because this pattern was designed to have a bulky yarn. not a worsted or smaller. I used a large hook but still should have used a bulky (5) yarn.
Thank you so much! I love to do lacy designs. Make sure to hit the bell on my channel to be notified when I upload! Thank you for watching and commenting.
+debby sheridan very good question! You might want to ask the pattern writer as if she would know best thank you for watching and commenting! Though I don't see why you couldn't try it. It's a very good idea.
+Malwina Rempińska I have not done it. But when the pineapples close and open in the pattern, this is where you will repeat. Thank you for watching and commenting.
+Sarah Boynton yes you could use DK yarn. But I would go up and hook size to make up for the yarn size difference. Thank you for watching and commenting.
hi jonna im wanting to make this longer how or at what stage would i just keep repeating before the pineapples and peacock as i would like a long legth shawl please could you let me know if this is possibel i have watched the tuturials again but not sure at what point i would increase for a longer shawl, thanks so much
I am loving this pattern and its getting hooked up quickly! I am wondering if it could be enlarged both in length and width. I am concerned that it might not be big enough for a plus size woman.
I’m really happy to hear you love this pattern! That question on how it can be increased comes up a lot. Unfortunately it’s not a quick answer. The best I can say without changing the pattern is bigger hook bigger yarn. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@@JonnaMartinezCrochet I think I am going to try increasing it in the first 5 rows and then again in rows 7 to 10. Just by adding 2 or 3 rows in each area and by adding a few sc as well. It doesn't hurt to try. When i do this i will let you know how it worked out so perhaps you could let others know as well. Thank you again. You are easy to follow and learn from and i enjoyed this a lot!
+Nicholas Handley i'm so happy to hear you are making the shawl! Thank you for watching and commenting! (I'm sure it is all finished and just gorgeous by now)
+Sarah Neber this pattern needs to be blocked so if your comfortable with the hook and how neat the stitches are coming out I'd say just keep it. Im going to post a blog post on Jonna Martinez.com to show photos of before and after blocking. It's just fluffy and rumbled looking. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Jonna Martinez l love how you teach,it's very plain. I really want to try this scarf. I love doing pineapple. I did a lot with small thread.I will see if I get similar yarn. I also love peacock. Thank you for sharing.
Use a super bulky yarn and a BIG hook. Otherwise there is no way to make this pattern bigger. I did not design this shawl. Thank you for watching and commenting.

+Mrs P yes that light yarn will make this small.

The only concern I have is that my practice shawl may be a bit small as I'm using slightly thinner yarn and smaller hook! (Oh well! I know a few kiddos that would love to have a shawl!)
It’s a wonderful dress up shawl! Definitely use bulky (5) yarn next try. Thank you for watching!
I'm having the same problem, as my yarn is much smaller than hers. I figure I can just add another layer of pineapples if it still looks too small. Should be easy enough to adapt it.
lovely patterns ,love it.
+Joyce Hewitt thank you for watching and commenting!
Love it very easy but I have a question if I want to make it bigger how would I go about doing it?
Thank you for this pattern..
+SWATI HEGDE thank you for watching and commenting!
Jonna Martinez I did this and I'm loving it
+SWATI HEGDE ❤️
I made this and I love it, but I used red heart ombre only needed lobe skein... Thank you
+Sherize Bennett great to hear!!
Oh!! I bet it's beautiful!!!
I'm using Red Heart Super Saver Stripes in color 'Cool Stripe'. I wanted it to be peacock colors and I think it is. It's looking great! Oh and so far I'm on my second skein. Bought 3 just in case.
Very easy to understand thank you
Wonderful! Thank you for watching and commenting!
How is it that hers looks way bigger than mine when im using a bigger hook n a yarn that is a little thicker
Thanks.

dont know if you will see this jonna but there is a row missing between row 13 and row 14 or between part one and the change to part two. i saw it when i started to watch part two. at 3.32 on the video when you are holding up the shawl you can clearly see it. the row that has 7 dc in the 3ch space between the trebles is missing from the instructions. other than that you are brilliant at what you do
Hello Iam using a more light yarn and is more little how I can add more to look bigger
Very nice love it
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I'm new here and I'm having trouble getting a paper copy of the Pineapple Peacock shawl. The one in the tutorial seems very different than the other pineapple shawl. I need to do have the easier pattern. Does anyone know where I can find the pattern. Thank you.
I'll ask here too, is there a way to make this larger?
'Thanks so much very nice
I have a problem. Patons Brilliant Light 3 3.75mm US F/5 Marvelous Mocha Color 4913 50g / 1.75oz 69% Acrylic 31% Polyester I can take a guess this is the wrong yarn am I right? What could I make with this yarn?
+Peggy McKinney that would make a gorgeous light blanket.
(Lots of options from c2c, virus blanket, call the midwife blanket)
Or you could make a difference shawl.
+Peggy McKinney that sounds great!!
hello, I'm new to crochet and i just want to ask how to make this shawl in a bigger size? I'm using a hook 3mm. thank you in advance.
There is no way to make this bigger without re writing the pattern. Use a bulky yarn and large hook. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I made this shawl mam perfect
+Meenakshi chintala that's so great to hear!!
But when I had finished from this shawl it locks very small can I have the cause
Most likely because this pattern was designed to have a bulky yarn. not a worsted or smaller.
I used a large hook but still should have used a bulky (5) yarn.
Butiful Sawal
These are great videos, please do more fancy designs.
Thank you so much! I love to do lacy designs. Make sure to hit the bell on my channel to be notified when I upload! Thank you for watching and commenting.
Could you make this just a bit larger by doing the second video twice?
+debby sheridan very good question! You might want to ask the pattern writer as if she would know best thank you for watching and commenting! Though I don't see why you couldn't try it. It's a very good idea.
I loved your tutorial . How do I add more peacock and pineapple ? It's too short for me and would like it longer
I want know to :) Joanna Martinez, cold you help us?
+Malwina Rempińska I have not done it. But when the pineapples close and open in the pattern, this is where you will repeat.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Hi, could you make it with dk yarn would it still come out nice? watched youre video on the poncho and made one, very clever 😊
+Sarah Boynton yes you could use DK yarn. But I would go up and hook size to make up for the yarn size difference. Thank you for watching and commenting.
hi jonna im wanting to make this longer how or at what stage would i just keep repeating before the pineapples and peacock as i would like a long legth shawl please could you let me know if this is possibel i have watched the tuturials again but not sure at what point i would increase for a longer shawl, thanks so much
lin chandley you can do an increase when the double clusters are still double. Before it goes to triple. Add a few more rows
Thank you.
Thank you for watching Leticia!
THANX HON❤️💕💞💓❤🔥💖💗💝💝💝👍👍👍
@@vickieheinrichs6939 where you able to enlarge it? Please let me know 😁
Sweet! all set for part three! :D im5making this for a friend and its6a gorgeous pattern. Thanks for the tutorial :)
+Nicholas Handley i'm so happy to hear you are making the shawl!
Thank you for watching and commenting!
(I'm sure it is all finished and just gorgeous by now)
I have tried to make 2 of these. they both turned out way shorter then yours. what am I doing wrong??????????????????
Smaller yarn?
Or same?
Also try a bigger hook.
Thank you for watching!
Mine is also smaller than yours.and my yarns is the half
Do I need to use a larger or smaller hook if it is coming out rippled and chunky looking?
+Sarah Neber this pattern needs to be blocked so if your comfortable with the hook and how neat the stitches are coming out I'd say just keep it.
Im going to post a blog post on Jonna Martinez.com to show photos of before and after blocking. It's just fluffy and rumbled looking.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Jonna Martinez l love how you teach,it's very plain. I really want to try this scarf. I love doing pineapple. I did a lot with small thread.I will see if I get similar yarn. I also love peacock. Thank you for sharing.
Hi.. can you add the video to make pineapple pattern shrug please
+SWATI HEGDE I can certainly add it to my requests list! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Just found you and you are wonderful
I’m so happy you like my channel! Thank you for watching and commenting.
So beautiful but l want it to be tall ???
Use a super bulky yarn and a BIG hook. Otherwise there is no way to make this pattern bigger. I did not design this shawl. Thank you for watching and commenting.
I have made one a bit bigger, I repeated the first 4 rows twice, might be worth trying that, or even more?!
can we make this shawl bigger ??
