    ADDED NOTES:
Row 12 is a repeat of row 8
    13 is 9
    14 is 10
    15 is 11
Then you start over, every 4 rows are repeated.
    16 is 8 or 12
    17 is 9 or 13
    18 is 10 or 14
    19 is 11 or 15
BUT remember your shawl is GROWING, so there will not be exact repeats of any row, just step back and look at your progress and where your "arches" are.

Hi there, I have to say, you are so easy to follow.....I'm new to crocheting. My mom passed away and left behind all her crocheting supplies. I've tried to learn from her but I couldn't. I have watched so many tutorials on how to do this shawl but I just couldn’t get it, in the end I gave up. Then your video popped up on a “shawl” search so I thought why not, just one more. Fantastic. I grasped it straight away. Your tutorial is so clear & unhurried which makes it simple to follow. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I’m off to get my yarn & have a go

First I thank you for taking the time to video your work. I'm a 66 year old beginner and I found your video to be very helpful with slow enough instructions even I could understand. I felt as if I could crochet this shawl and hope to do so soon. I got interested in crochet when I saw some edge crochet on kitchen towel, etc. of course I need to learn to crochet on larger hooks, but I'm determined to learn. Thanks so much.

I just watched your video all the way through. Now I'm ready for the store to open tomorrow to go buy the yarn!! My son just got married, so I am planning to make a shawl for his new wife!! I've seen this pattern done in several multicolor yarns - so pretty! I've been VERY hesitant to start the Virus Shawl, but I was the same with the PICOT SHELL afghan and I managed to conquer that! (made 3 baby size so far). THANK YOU for emphasizing to COUNT your dc's before moving on -- It is SOOOO easy to get moving along and miss count as you go!! My husband loves to laugh when he sees me FROGGING! (I should never have told him about that crochet terminology!). THANK YOU!!!!! One of my sons out of college and recently married and the other son in college now, so I have returned to crocheting after about a 25 year halt and really enjoying myself!!! Only thing is......I now need a MAID for my housework! haha I'll post a picture!

Jonna, just think you did a wonderful job demonstrating the instructions of this shawl. I'm at the point in my life about knitting and crocheting that I don't want to have to figure things when it comes to troubleshooting mistakes in patterns. By watching you, I had not problems at all. Now I don't think I even need the pattern, unless there is some time between using. Thanks again, you are great.

    • @susanssoulshines9847
      @susanssoulshines9847 8 лет назад +3

+thesummerdream You should really start with a beginner level smaller project that is more do-able for you since you've never crocheted anything before, this one is tricky and has some chains that can hide and it also depends on the yarn type and weight you use as to how hard it will be to find these chains throughout every row.
There are hundreds of amazing beginner level crochet projects, including lovely shawls that are much simpler, long/cowl/infinity scarves, or even something more like a simple basic 5 or 6 petal flower or a dish/kitchen cloth or towel if you feel you need to start there.... it's all wonderful, useful and something you'll be proud of!
You'll get discouraged and frustrated if you try to start a pattern that is above the level of crochet you are at. There is beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced crochet, and the pattern are rated by these categories in order to help you pick one that is a good one for you! :).

yes me too i'm not that much a beginner, but too much waffling and not down to it. I mean even where you say chain3, then turn and chain 7 making ten. Ok but it be better, to not waffle on about it. Just say 3ch, turn+make further 7 chain, and continue on. not being rude honestly just making a suggestion. cause when doing new stuff, it can get hard to follow

In order to get ready for the turn for the next row, dc in the top of the last ch 3, then ch 7 this will give you the 10 sts for the beginning of the row.

Hi jonna is this pattern have the finish part? I follow u from start but when u get to roll 11 u stop so I don't know how to finish it and what it will look like. . Please show how to finish up. Thank you

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  8 лет назад +2

+Von Nguyen this pattern just has 4 repeating rows.
Row 12 is a repeat of row 8
      13 is 9
      14 is 10
      15 is 11
Then you start over, every 4 rows are repeated.
      16 is 8 or 12
      17 is 9 or 13
      18 is 10 or 14
      19 is 11 or 15
BUT remember your shawl is GROWING, so there will not be exact repeats of any row, just step back and look at your progress and where your "arches" are.
Thank you for watching and commenting 🌸 🌸

No I made a mistake. Three plus seven is ten. The double crochet counts as 3, plus chain 7 = 10. This way both sides match. 😉 thank you for watching sorry for the mistake.

Um on the edges you keep saying the DC counts as 2, plus 7 chains equals 10. do you mean the DC counts as 3 or should we be doing 8 chains? thanks for your help!!

In the second row of DC's, you made the first actual DC in the same stitch as the ch 3, but the ch 3 is counted as the first DC, so, to keep the number of stitches correct, you did not end the row with a DC in the ch 3 in the row below it, as you should have. You never do a stitch in the same stitch as the starting chain, unless you're doing an increase.

You explained this very well. I watched the German video and understood from watching her do it and hers was with finer yarn and was gorgeous but I love the fact that there is an English version of this Virus Shawl and I love the fact that your doing it with thicker yarn so we can all see exactly where the hook is supposed to go . I can't wait to make it, my husband would love this on me. Great job making this and explaining please keep making more videos!!! Keep them coming!!! ☺☺☺
