I was at a loss with my cat and her matted fur. She hates all loud noises so clippers are a nightmare. She also hates strangers so a groomer was a last resort. This method worked like a charm! Thank you so much for posting.
iceicebuddy, I have the same problem. He doesn't even like being brushed. I think I made the mistake of buying the wrong food because, it was right at that time that he got these mats.
Back combing is the other direction 🙃 good tip for those who feel comfortable though! 😊we have a cat that purrs so hard at the vet they can’t hear her heartbeat 😂 thanks for the tip! 😘
Very helpful, the eye-brow shaping razor is what I will try next. The best people in the world are cat/animal lovers. The other best people in the world are cats who love their person/people.
A good shampoo would do her coat wonders...she has a lot of dandruff...I like your technique, just hate the bald spots😔but you gotta do what you gotta do😏I will try this in the future...thanks for posting your video...very helpful 😉!!
Thank you for sharing! I have a long-haired cat who gets matted easily but is also a bit too aggressive with strangers to go to the groomer. I think this is something we will be able to do at home with him. :)
Just in case you don't see my reply, I was saying that a hairdresser's razor comb for neck hair may be a good investment. They aren't disposable and would last much longer if you are needing to use them often. I also came across a video that showed a vet using a mat removal comb with safety blades that I forgot to mention above. That tool is too big for my short haired kitty, but you could Google it and see if it fits your needs. I hope that you are able to find success!
Have you tried diet? . . . good protein and oils such as coconut oil, good olive oil, good (expensive) fish oil. If you are grooming every day, you should not have that much hair coming out.
Omg. Best video ever my cat is having a flea problem and found out that she has a matted fur on her stomach but she doesn't like to be touched but lately cuz of the fleas she knows im helping her she is kind of letting me touched her so i tried the scissors but is to dangerous their skin is very special . So this nasty fleas are living on it and feeding from her and . Im taking care of the fleas but with this matted fur i can't do much cuz so i was looking and looking for videos and from all of them i think this is going to be the best idea. Thank you so much for this tip.
Ingenious! Like Lynette Foxen's comment below, I too, have been searching youtube for a couple hrs for the best solution for one of my fur babies who, much like your baby, has the same problem. We have two short haired black cats, among several others, and just like humans, every single cat has different hair/fur. Our one black girl Monika has hardly any undercoat, just sleek shiny top coat, but our other, Baby-Boo, has a lot of under coat and has started getting mats on her hips and on the backs of her thighs. This solution of your's in ingenious because it's so simple! There are so many gimmicky cat "brushes" out there that are so expensive (as with all pet products) and sometimes we overlook the simplest implements/tools. I just ordered a three-pack of these from eBay for 99 cents, free shipping! Kim, this is awesome, thank you!
Tried this and it worked great..got three big ones from my cats rump end within 10 minutes. I used olive oil on my fingers and worked it into Matted hair and then used small eyebrow trimmer (without batteries) and little by little walla they came right out. Thank you so much for wonderful video.
Where did you get the little tool from? My cats has some pretty horrendous Matt's and I am lost...I've never had a cat before that has such big Matt's so I'm trying my best to figure out a good solution to get them out. Thank you for sharing the video!
I bought these tools at Home Goods / TJ Max-they are used to remove peach fuzz on my face near the jaw line and ears. Great idea. - I'm going to try it for my cat who has a few knots in her fur.
Wow, this is an amazing video! We have a kitty I adopted from the ASPCA and she is terrified of going into a carrier. She has 2 little matted hair tufts. I was so happy that a 3rd tuft of matted hair just fell off! I may just try this little razor. Thank you so much for this video! I will check it out if you have any other videos such as getting a kitty into a carrier when the kitty is incredibly fearful.
Lady that cat has huge amounts of dead flaky skin showing it's not really getting brushed down to its skin and your answer is just to bald it in spots?
Your kitty is obviously well loved and taken care of, but any idea why she is losing so much fur? She seems to be a short-hair cat, and they don't shed that much. Even long hairs don't always shed quite that much. It looks too like your cat has a bit of a partial bald patch by her tail. Does she groom excessively, and could it be allergies to some food? Try a grain-free diet, and swapping out plastic bowls for stainless steel bowls, as some cats get an allergic reaction to plastic.
F. B. Hi there ... Yes, we loved her quite a bit. She was a rescue, and there were a bit of issues to look after along the way. 😉 SS bowls, I always liked for hygenie, but never knew about allergies. She had always shed like that, but the dandruff was new last year. The bald spit was a matt that I had removed just prior to filming.
I was envisioning a straight blade and knew that wouldn't work, but something was nagging at my brain telling me that there has Got to be something simpler that I'm missing that's so obvious. After an hour of unhelpful videos I've found the DING!!! I was looking for. Thank You!!! I have actually cut a hole in a cat. Yes. If there is one thing in my entire almost 45 yrs that I wish I could undo-it is without a doubt that. I try not to think about it ever-but my old hyperthyroid kitty let his fur go, but once his meds started kicking in he's trying to work them out and there are a few that are really close, and get tighter and tighter every day. The razor combs that stylists use for neck trims would be what I would buy if this were a constant issue. Have you looked into those for your handsome kitty? It would probably be a lot quicker for you, and cost less in the long run seeing as those brow combs are disposable and meant for a much smaller purpose. Just a thought. Meanwhile, I am ordering a pack tonight and hope that my old boy will sit still long enough for me to get it done-or at least let me work bit by bit. Much appreciated!!
Those razor combs do sound like a good idea. l'd have to try working with one to see if it's practical for grooming and de-matting. Thanks for the suggestion! AND, how did it work out for you??
You said it,”it is ridiculous!” I have a male soon going to be 9 years old in July. I just had him to the veterinarian he weighs 17.5 pounds. He is not over fed, Sissy who died 3 weeks before her 19th birthday. Both ate the same amount of food, she never weighed more than 5.5 pounds. Her entire life. Both came out of certain death from abuse. I actually feel much worse for a pet, because a child can speak up. A cat just like an elderly person is vulnerable to horrible, evil people. Anyway ElCucho’s veterinarian never said he needed to lose weight. She gave him a perfect bill of health. However, she did have the tech do a horrible job of de~matting him with electric clippers. I brush him daily, and do not understand the problem with his mats. I have bought and tried everything you could possibly imagine. I’m at a total empass I have bought every comb, brush, even a large tooth human comb. If you or any of your followers have any idea what I can do. I would greatly appreciate it. TIA 😊 Daniel PS...the worst thing is he trusts me, I don’t want to break that.
Her skin can be irritated by brushing so energically with this metallic brush. Cats have very sensitive skin.
I just put a few drops of olive oil on my cats mat and in a few days it just drops out...
Use olive oil on the base of the mat. It wipe fall off on its own.

It's so frustrating to watch these videos where the cat enjoys being groomed. My cat freaks out. Not sure what I should do.

Great idea! We've also done this with human hair-thinning combs.

@@combatgirl38 this is great info thank you!
ohhh awesome idea!! i've tried many different methods without much success so I'm going to get an eyebrow razor for sure!
Have you tried diet? . . . good protein and oils such as coconut oil, good olive oil, good (expensive) fish oil. If you are grooming every day, you should not have that much hair coming out.
Feed your cat with healthy raw food + salmon oil etc , trust me in one month you will see huge benefits
She need dander wipes and from Amazon order a pet shaver so easy to use and helpful
Wow, I have a few of those little razors! I hadn't thought of this. Thank you so much.
My cat is exactly the same way. She is also a tuxedo cat like yours.
Suzanne Robinson same here! I have two and the one mats all the time and sheds a ton and the other is softer and doesn’t mat. So weird

I have these, and I purchased them from Amazon
I also spotted them in Walmart.

She's such a GOOD little girl.
Purring isn’t always a good sign. I hope you know that

F. B. Wrong, my short hairs shed more then my long hair.
It really depends on the breed but I must agree, my short hair Siamese sheds more than my long hair Turkish Angora 😳
How did my tuxedo get in your video?
ur cat is so cute
So I tried this and my cat said "I will murder you!" So I chose life
i love the fact that you cant hurt the cat!!!! Many thanks

Can't see you work....
Try using olive oil next time to smoothen it
olive oil is not good for a cat to digest if they lick it, coconut oil is safe and effective
That's very nice kitty! Now YOU Sit still and be groomed your turn. It's only fair.
HA! 😹
*Tumbleweeds is EXACTLY what I call them.
It worked so well. Some treats were placed in front of her, and she was in heaven 😂. Thanks for this...
I had a cat that shed that much and i use to lint roll her after lol she liked it too
Razer comb? Do pet stores carry them?
❤
Can you do this with a different type of manual razor? Like the one people use for their body hair?
As it grows back so does the matt
Cute cat x
This just might work. Thank you
Can u do that on 6 or 7 weeks kittens or no
Yikes
Awwww this reminds me of Postman Pat Postman Pat and his black & white cat
