How to dematt a cat! When dematting your cat you need to be gentle and know the right technique so you are not hurting your cat. Using a greyhound comb is, in my opinion as a professional groomer, one of the best tools to use on matts.

Thank you so much! I ordered a Greyhound Comb, after watching you explain how to do this. Before I would just use the ferminator, and go from there to get him going. I recently watched a video saying that the Ferminator is for use after using a Greyhound Comb! Thank you!

My male cat, Mo Cat is exactly like Midnight, less the temperament. Mo is a biter even to be brushed. I will try this method a bit at a time with the comb. We have been taking him to a groomer for the lion shave every spring. He has to be sedated and we absolutely hate to do that! Thank you very much for this video. I subbed!😊

Hi. I just found your videos on RUclips and I am a big fan, I am living in Cocoa, Florida, USA. Of course I subscribed. I think you are so awesome in the way you explain things making it all easier to understand. I have a bit of a situation here. I have a long haired cat (plus 2 short hair cats) and she is matted up really bad. I called almost every vet in my area to see if I could bring her in to de-matt her and NOBODY will do it!! They all told me I need to take her to a groomer for that. So I called every groomer in the phone book, plus all the ones in neighboring towns up to a 4 hour drive away. And none of them will do it either. I heard every excuse there is why they won't. They pretty much told me they only groom dogs, and that if its bothersome to the cat, that the cat would find a way to chew at it to make it go away. I am very distraught and upset over this. I have been trying to find somebody to help for the last 6 months or more. I even try to get them out myself now and then I can get a small one, and even was able to cut a few off with scissors with my fingers as a guard between the blade and her skin. But that is just too nerve wracking, and she doesn't like to sit still for more than a minute, so I gave up on that. Do you have any advice or any idea what I can do to help her? She doesn't seem to mind them, but I'm sure as more and more time goes by it will just get worse for her. I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks. God Bless,!

That completely shocks me because here, any vet will shave a cat. They knock the cat out shave and wake them up. I used to work as a groomer for Petsmart, if you have a Petsmart near you, they shave and groom cats. If the matts are so tight, the only option is to shave then after keep up with the brushing if possible. I feel so bad for all the trouble you are having. Let me know if Petsmart is an option for you.

I got a curry comb. The comb is sooo aggressive looking I was worried it would be painful. However my guy likes it despite it being a whole series of small metal pins. Really does a great job on the undercoat. He's now a smooth operator.

Oh gosh, those cats have the same silky “floats upwards” hair as my cats. I just bought a dematting tool and a high end slicker to use after. My cats knots are just above the skin so I can’t do the pinch method.

My long hair cat in the last year or so has gained a bit of weight and can no longer reach to clean her bum. Hoping some of these tips work for that area!

My cat absolutely will not let me use a brush or comb or anything, she has so many matts that I'm at a loss on what to do. Her temperament isnt very ideal. I once had to take her to a groomer. That poor girl who did her dematting was scratched up everywhere. What do I do?

The only other option you have is to take your cat to the vet or a skilled groomer and see if they can lion shave our kitty. Shaving your cat won't hurt and will get rid of all the matts. You may have to do this once a year to keep your cat matt free.

I would loose my hands if I tried this with my cat 🤦🏼‍♀️ lol. Even if I pinch under the matt, she meows/ howls so loudly, bites and scratches 😿 not sure what to do!

We have one cat that we adopted from a shelter anyway one or two weeks ago a stray kitten showed up and of course we feed him . The weather is becoming colder so we let him in ( no health issues so we felt comfortable to have to cats in our home) My question is the cat we adopted will not stop growling and hissing. We feed at them same time but separately same attention to both . Do you have any suggestions for these two to become buddies

Nancy Morrow Sometimes it takes time and patience with cats. Some cats adjust really quick to other cats and some will hiss and swipe for several months. I find the best way to help them out is keep normal routine. Do not separate them. Separating them only increases stress because they have to start all over getting used to each other. I find to give them boxes around the house, toys and places to naturally go for them to be alone, they will figure each other out. I have had cats stay with us for a few month and it took that long for one cat to stop hissing at every cat in the house. It definitely can be stressful, but with animals you need lots of patience, time and love. Every cat has there own personality so hang in there and give them time.

She’s doing it wrong. I like the fact she’s holding the cat’s hair so that she doesn’t pull excessively. But she should not use a pulling motion with that comb, but rather a picking motion from the top of the hair toward the skin, holding the top of the cat’s hair behind the comb to create tension.
Also, get a professional dematting tool, for crying out loud.
