      All animals deserve RESPECT. If we are spoken to or handled roughly, we don't like it, so why would an animal?
      Animals can teach us a lot about living in the present.
      Grooming cats has taught me a great deal over the past 5.5 years and I wouldn't swap it for the world.
      Love is what makes the world go round and that should be no different when handling animals.

    Thanks for the great video!
    I was looking for a tool to make it easier to dematt my cat. I don’t like the idea of having to hurt my cat. Anyhow I ended up getting a tool that is in the shape of a window washing squeegee, it has front and back metal teeth, they are rounded off at the end. The one side has less teeth than the other. The side with less teeth is supposed to losen the mats and the other side with more metal, sharp teeth is supposed to cut off the Matt.
    The dematting tool is supposed to arrive tomorrow and I can’t wait to do the dematting so that my Bubele (means little boy in German) will be his handsome self again. Bubele has serious health issues and he needs to get Hyperthyroidism taken care of. He does not want to eat much and drinks too much water. Thanks again, also for the opportunity to discuss things.

    She's such a tiny kitty to make all those deep rumblings! But must have felt like heaven To sit , lay, move afterwards. How rewarding To have the skill s to achieve this.

      I know, it is such a difficult job at the time with all the saggy loose skin and the last thing I want to do is nick a cat with my clippers. But, afterwards when I know the cat is free from any pain and can move freely without any restrctions, that is my reward.

    I have a 19 year old feisty matted cat. I spend several days of not weeks scissors in the beginning take off little pieces each day to help her trust me. I have just started using clippers and it does help take off large amounts of matted hair but I am still having challenges around her hind quarters and rear end. She hisses a lot, but I know I am not hurting her. Thank you for sharing your video, you did a fabulous job on this old girl. She really trusts you!

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  3 года назад

      Thank you Charissa for your lovely comment. Yes it is very difficult clipping a cat particularly down the hind legs and rear end as the skin is very thin and you have to be extra careful with the loose skin around the legs. The old cats have very saggy skin and it makes the job extremely difficult to complete. My heart always goes out to the older pusscats as they cannot tell you where they are aching or sore, and sometimes this is why you will get a hiss or scratch to warn you.

    Oh thank you...I'm in the middle of doing this to Great Grandma Fluffy. She tries to bite me. I really like your leather sleeves. I cut down the mats with my large bandage scissors so they aren't so big and heavy. As soon as it gets warm enough I'll take her to the vet. They will knock her out and clean her up. I just don't want to get bit. Brave you. Blessings from NW Arkansas, USA.

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  3 года назад +5

      Before I go near the cats with the clippers, I always let them sniff them and get used to the sound. When it comes to going near their heads, I start the clippers and then move them gently around their head to accustomize them to the noise before I go to clip behind ears. Most cats actually realise i am helping them and stay very still for me.

    Aw, by 3 year old Persian tabby BOY is called Toffee! He has that exact comb too but I actually have to use it as a distraction whilst I use a vertical rake comb on him.. he likes to chew on it! Keeping his mouth and head busy with it helps me to be able to comb out some of his loose hair on his back/body and avoids him biting me! Sadly his sister is far less patient with any grooming and has much longer/finer/tanglier fur.. it's a case of mostly catching and clipping out any knots... a full trim is also pretty much impossible as she would not lie still like this, even sedated.

    You are so gentle. We have to get our girl shaved due to mattes at her hind end. She won’t let me brush there. How long until the coat grows back? Ours is a Ragamuffin

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  Год назад

      Thank you. Every cat is different when it comes to regrowth. It depends on how short the groomer has taken the clippers in order to get under the matting, but also it depends on how quickly your fur babies coat grows. Just like us, we all have to cut our nails and cut our hair at different times.
      My Dad's cat Olly (Norwegian Forest) he takes 3 months for full regrowth all over after he has had his lion clip, just to give you an idea.
      Once your girl has been clipped the next time, try every day just for a few minutes to handle her around the back end to get her used to it. It all comes down to your persistency every day. Slowly, you can build up over time, the more she gets used to you working around her hind area. Good luck.

    Great video. Learnt a lot from the way you positioned your hands!. What brand of clipper do you use. Mine overheats after 3 min use and how did you position the kitty to get underneath. Going to have another go at one of my naughty kitties. Usually takes me 3 days to get her coat off.

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  3 года назад +3

      Hiya Candy, thanks for watching my videos. My latest videos actually have the link to all the items/products I use on the cats, so the link for the clippers is there also. As for how I position them to get underneath, please watch this video and you will see me moving this kitty onto his side in order to get to the belly area to clip. ruclips.net/video/VOesqIHm0yQ/видео.html Hope it helps .
      Please keep sharing my channel so that I can help many other cat owners which ultimately helps more cats from getting into distress with their coats . Thank you.

    Hi. Good vid. Trying to do my grumpy 22 Yr old.
    Is there any particular technique? Work from the spine downwards?
    What about legs and belly. They can get resistant and very grumpy lol

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  2 года назад +1

      Hi there Matt,
      Very late reply I know!
      Yes, I always work from the spine down and basically in quarter sections at a time. That way if you have a grumpy cat, you can do a quarter section and then leave them and continue the next day on another section.
      Front sections are always easier than hind because most cats do not like you anywhere near their back legs or bum or belly!
      This just comes with perseverance and consistency with your grooming routine. The more you groom your cat, the more they get used to being groomed.
      Again, it comes down to how much you are prepared to work with your cat and encouraging them to trust you in those difficult areas.
      Legs can be tricky because the skin is so thin here, so you have to go easy and run the comb with the flow of the fur - not against. And place the comb flat and down the fur, not into the cat (if that makes sense)
      If you watch more vids, you will see me doing legs, on other cats.
      Good luck.

      @@LoveCatsGroomer Hi, thanks so much for the great advice and wisdom with the grooming routine.
      Definitely correct about the requirement for patience and devoting time to allow one's cat to become accustomed.
      It's a pretty invasive operation when one thinks about it, so graded progress over time is important.
      Yes the hind leg skin is so thin, especially on a geriatric cat! Plus they don't self groom as much.
      Thanks again for the great routine techniques and tips!
      Fabulous 👌

    My 18 year old cat was terribly matted on her tummy. About 10 mos. earlier she got a lion cut from a cat hospital, the only people I could find who would groom her. I tried every cat groomer I could find, several different vets, no one would touch her. They said she had old lady skin and were afraid of hurting her. The mats just got worse and worse. I couldn't brush her because it was her tummy that got matted and she didn't want to be brushed there. This kitty is older than my Fiona and you're able to groom her. Why would no one groom my little old lady?

    My cat needs this doing, I’d had him anaesthetised at the vets last time but I can’t keep doing that to him every month

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  3 года назад +1

      Hi Abby, yes a lot of them are exactly the same, they don't like to be sat still when it comes to grooming sessions. So, we have come across many viscious cats over the years but with the help of Mums and Dads taking our advice in between our visits, those cats have completely changed and now love their grooming sessions. It all comes down to daily grooming sessions and being consistent with it. You need to set up an area where you go to every day so he gets used to it. You start with light brushing for 5 mins and then let him go. Slowly but surely, you build this up over time so that he becomes more tolerant. It all comes down to you putting in the work with him. I know it can be difficult particularly when faced with a hissing/growling cat but you need to try and ignore this. Stay calm, do not shout, keep putting him back into place in your grooming station until you are happy you are finished. Do not let him just run away when he chooses to. The more persistant you are with every day grooming, he will eventually come round to it. Good luck x

    oh gosh, this is my cat....I hope to find groomer as good as you! My question is, what is his home like afterwards? Is he going to behave the same way all clipped?? My cat is the same age, with similar hair...I tried brushing out a few mats myself, but he got quite sick afterwards. Now Im scared to brush him really, or take him to the groomer. I also fear the car ride will be scary for him. Ugh, there is so few videos on senior health...I do no want to traumatize him.
