  • Removing Matts From Longhaired Cat With Belly Clip @Love Cats Groomer
Simba arrived today needing a full groom but he needed his belly clipping away as it had become rather matted.
He was such a quiet, patient boy for me considering he has never visited my home before. I have only visited his own home in the past.
Regular maintenance visits prevent matting getting too advanced which means Pesto does not have to remain on the grooming table for along time.
Our long haired cats do take a lot of looking after, but if you make it a habit every day for just a few minutes, then it will save your cat from getting matted.

Is the furminator bad only for matts or you dislike it overall? I use it all the time🫣🙈 my cats are indoors and have no matts❤

It's painful for a cat to have matting that bad. The cats skin is real thin and the matt can cause pulling. I have a long hair myself and brush him at 4 - 5 times a week. We are lucky he loves getting brushed. I'm so glad he is getting the grooming he needs. Great job ☺️👍

You are so sweet! This helped me so much because our cat is 13 and will no longer cooperate with the groomer. I bought a clipper and one of these combs and will continue to try at home. Such great advice on how to use the comb. Hi from St. Louis, USA!

Thank you Gale for your lovely comment. I do hope my video content has helped you and your furbaby. Unfortunately the older cats tend to have aches and pains and can get a little grumpy if grooming hurts them. This is where the groomer needs to be aware and pick up on any discomfort that the pusscat is showing.
Good luck with your grooming sessions, I hope they go well.
Just remember, little and often is always best for our fur babies.

Thank you for this very informative video. However, I would love to see this demonstrated on a less cooperative cat. I think most cats would not tolerate that without some kind of sedation. Also, I love your hand/arm protection. Can you provide a link for that item?

Gabapentin from the vet worked like a charm for our cat, but no longer helps.

      Hiya Kat,
Thank you for your comment. Many of these cats you see on these videos i have been tending to for a while now. Many of them were incredibly intolerant of me when I first visited them. However, cats have to be handled with complete love and patience. And if it takes 2 or 3 visits to get a groom completed, then so be it.
Over time, they start to trust me that I am not there to hurt them or cause them any discomfort.
I have been bitten, scratched, full on attacked and ended up in hospital on various occasions on antibiotic drips etc
I have NEVER used sedation - it goes against everything I stand for.
Building up the trust is the key thing for me and over time and repetition working closely with my fur baby Mum and Dads who keep up as much grooming on a daily ritual in between my visits is key.
I have witnessed feral cats turn to become the most loving cats through regular grooming.
It just takes a lot of effort and patience from us human beings rather than wanting things sorted like yesterday.
Cat's have taught me a lot of lessons over the past 5.5 years.

I watched this because I have a cat from the RSPCA who suddenly decided we couldn’t groom him. I got the comb today and did 2 minutes combing before he decided enough was enough, I got some loose fur out, I’m going to take your advice and do a bit more every day 🙂 thank you. No blood was spilled today 😊

Love your info but what if your cat won't stay still to do it???

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  Год назад

Hiya, it all comes down to handling your pusscat on a daily basis and getting them used to be handling. Many of my clients of course I see for the first time, so I don't know how they will behave.
It is a case of staying calm and extremely patient when you have a cat that won't stay still.
If you can get someone to help you, then all the better.
You never want to force the cat into position, it will never work!
It all comes down to encouraging them, lots of praise and just doing bits at a time. You can always come back tomorrow and do a bit more.
Slowly, over time, your cat will start to trust that nothing awful is going to happen and will sit for longer for you.
      Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if the matts will get less in the summer months due to his fur not being so thick🤔 Thanks for the informative video @Lovecatsgroomer❤️

This is such a wonderful cat. 🐱 There is no way my cat would lay there that still for me to groom out the mats like that, so now what? What is the best way to groom a "Do not touch me THERE, EVER!!" loving but stubborn cat?

    • @LoveCatsGroomer
      @LoveCatsGroomer  Год назад +2

Hi Michelle, you are certainly not on your own there! It all comes down to you grooming just a little every single day and starting to touch those difficult areas for your cat. As long as you keep your grooming regime up daily and continue being brave in moving your hands over the difficult areas, your fur baby will eventually accept and trust you enough to groom all over.
It all comes down to your own perseverance in grooming daily, even if it is just a few minutes a day and then slowly increasing the time.
I have had many an aggressive cat come round after me visiting regularly and with Mum also grooming daily in between my visits.
Just keep at it - you will be amazed one day when your pusscat suddenly just lets you do a groom everywhere.

He's so calm. My long haired rescue hates having her belly and armpits touched. It's been nearly 2 years with my mobile groomer and we're slowly making improvements. So far she's had to go vets to be sedated and have a lion cut. We're hoping that we can do it at home with nutricalm to help her. I want to avoid sedation as she has a mild heart murmur.
When we first got her, she'd rip your skin if you even went near her with a brush, now she angry eats her lick-e-lix until she's had enough and swiped you.
I'm hoping I can Be able to fully brush her in time without too many issues.

It makes me so sad to see such a lovely cat in such a state. When he looked at the camera it really choked me up. I wish people just didn’t get long haired cats if they can’t keep up with their maintenance😔 On a positive note, I had no idea you could tease small knots like that. Very helpful.
I’m just adding another comment to this after watching further. Super interesting to learn your view on being gentle due to having long hair yourself. I also have long hair. I’ve had hair down to my waist all my life and I sympathise greatly with cats because of this, especially when I’m merely patting or gently brushing my cats which I do daily for hours at a time because we all enjoy it so much.
I’m so enjoying your content! Love love love Simba. Sad also to learn he goes outdoors with having seizures and a heart condition but there you go. He’s just gorgeous. What a good boy❤️

Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and to comment also. Unfortunately many people take longhaired cats on because they look so adorable but have no idea they need to groom them until it's too late and they become matted.
I'm glad you learnt about teasing small knots away - that is the whole reason why I started this channel. If just one person learns something to help their cats, then my efforts have paid off.
Thank you for sharing that with me.

She has gotten a few mats as a result which I will need to clip now. I wish people would not assume matted cats are due to neglect, sometimes they are just impossible to groom .

Some of us get longhaired cats without really looking to do so. All of my cats are rescues, either from feral or owners who rehomed them. Case in point, Rebel, a grey fluffy barn kitten we got free with a load of hay. Strangely, for s random bred cat, his fur is soft as cashmere and of a texture that mats horribly. We have the extra problem of taming him enough to tolerate us and keeping him from getting bound up in mats. I recently bought s grooming set with clippers, and I'm here on the channel to learn proper technique and tips. We have three other longhaired cats, one quite elderly whom I don't want to subject to the stress of a vet visit and sedation.

@@LoveCatsGroomer I'm late in my reply to you but after a reply to my comment today I realise that I didn't word my response to your video well at all and I want to correct that. What I meant to say was that it saddens me when it is a case of people that purely want a cat for it's looks, they don't take the care to look into the upkeep required for the breed and so on versus all of the examples that have been given in the replies to my comments such as cats that simply hate being brushed and those which are feral and rehomed cats.
It may be of interest to know that I myself have now become the owner of a cat that no longer enjoys having his tummy or flanks groomed. This is leading to very stressful moments for me when I do brush and comb him, and actually makes me want to leave it rather than stress him which only exacerbates the issue, so I do sympathise! I just wasn't clear in my original comment.
I didn't mean to offend anyone. We are all clearly here to be educated by someone that I personally think has the most effective, least stressful technique I've seen online.
Many thanks for sharing your expertise.

I've got an arthritic 19 year-old cat with some serious pelts, would you recommend vets or groomers as my family is worried about having such an old cat under anesthetic?

    • @LiveYourLifeToTheFull
      @LiveYourLifeToTheFull 2 года назад +2

I would defo say groomers. That's the whole reason I began grooming so as to encourage people to groom their cats to enable them from getting pelts in the first place. However, if it had already happened, then some can be combed and teased away but if they are so tight to the skin tou cannot get a Comb behind the pelts, then clipping is required.
I hate putting any animal under anaesthetic unless absolutely necessary for surgical reasons.
Take your time and try to tease the pelts away slowly. You don't have to do it all in one session.
Or find yourself a groomer who can clip them away for you. With your pusscat being arthritic, he may prefer the clippers as it will be quicker for him.
      Good luck.
