Save yourself the stress and headache of trying to make sense of those instructions that come with the Harley Brand Heated Grips.
We don't always recommend Harley name brand products, but in the case of heated grips, we absolutely do. Beware, there are a ton of junk aftermarket heated grip kits out there and we have found that Harley brand heated grips are absolutely the best when it comes to functionality and keeping your hands warm with plenty of adjustment.
One drawback to Harley brand heated grips is that almost all the kits are made so that the left side grip has to be externally wired and run down the handlebars. I personally don't mind this too much, as I have a Street Glide Special with a fairing and other things run there anyways. However, if you are particular or have a Harley without a fairing, you may want to internally wire those left side heated grip wires.
Lurch here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media came up with a way to customize the procedures upon install, allowing for the internal wiring of the left side heated grip wire! And we're sharing it all with you in the completely free video!
What we show you in this video is truly a "custom" procedure and found nowhere in the Harley brand heated grip instructions nor done at any dealership. Lurch has done this procedure on many bikes to include his own Road Glide Special. This is a custom job, so as always it's at your own risk. Don't let that scare you away, as we make it simple to do and easy for you to understand.

Currently installing heated grips on my 2015 SGS and wanted to route the wires internally to keep the clean look of my apes. This is the only video I have found online to show me an easy way to route the wire through the switch housing. Thanks guys, great video!
In case of exernally wireing: How do you use any kind of externally wired heated grip for giving throttle if the wires are running on the outside of the bar? Even if it goes with small customization inside the switch housing and small change on the locking plastic part of the grip, doesn't the wire interfere rotational motion? I get the left side, but because the other one rotates it's much more important! Please tell!
Nothing on the internet can be compared to the thoughtful content and the way it's presented. You guys save Harley owners a TON of money . . . and a rider can get to know his/her bike more intimately. Keep up the good work bros.

Just fitted Harley heated grips on my 2015 Road Glide Spl,your full video was very helpful,they now come with all the wiring as standard to be fully wired internal,it makes the job a lot simpler only took an hour and half,from start to finish,Harley quoted me 3 hrs at £88 an hour,

Great video, thanks. One tip, use a carbide burr on your Drexel, works better and safer than an abrasive grinding wheel on plastic and aluminum.
Made a trip to the dealer..... every heated grip that Harley offers today is made to wire internally..... no butchering the switch housings any more.
We've heard that too, but they re still selling the old stock.

Great tip, I know I have asked before and you answered but now I can't find the response, my apologies, I want to do this to replace my stock heated grips on my 2013 ultra limited, with some new HD heated grips. Is there a seperate video for bikes older than the 2014 Rushmore? Or will the purchased video cover the 2013 ultra. Thanks !
The video covers many years. We did the video on a 2014 Touring, a 2008 Touring, and a 2015 Touring. If you purchase the video, and aren't satisfied, we'll refund your purchase.
speaking of internal wiring. i have a 16 road glide and was considering getting the mirrors with turn signals in them for more visibility. but all the videos i've seen of installation were on bar mounted turn signals. any idea if i can run the wire through the bars with this too?
If you got a big enough bar you can. It just depends on the space available. We have seen it done. Also bars with a lack of extreme angles make the job easier as well. RK from LAB.

Thank you! Several of us have heated grips and stereo amps with no problem. With that said, we use battery tenders when the bikes sit for a long period of time. I'd say it's time to up grade if the battery isn't getting the full charge it needs.

Ryan, I bought your Heated grips video which is a great help but I request you to update it to address the Electrical Update kit Harley requires. The grips I bought 56100034 are center wired on the left but this kit calls for Electrical Connection Update Kit-69201599A. My first thought is why since all you should need to do is plug in the 2 pin power connector under the left side behind the Gage cluster, plug the grips together and plug in at the TGS.
Yah, for many years now they are universal kits. The dealerships don't even follow the instructions. All the kits are the same. The only difference is where you tie into power really. We try to show options, but it can be manipulated.
So Ryan in your understanding should I bypass the update kit? Getting to think I didn't need to buy it. Figured I could try it without it and if it works, then great.
