This tutorial is absolutely perfect! The first couple of Pom Pom I attached by using the little loop on them and they came out terrible. Very wobbly . Since watching this video they come out perfect! Very secure, even after going through the washer. Thank you so much. Liz B. (From Corning,NY)
I used to make sweaters and whatnot but now I'm on a hat making kick and just in the last couple months I've made maybe 90 hats with the faux fur poms and I'm still going strong. When I started, I used to sew my poms on similarly but not four directions. I came up from the inside of a hat with the yarn leaving some hanging inside and went through my pom as you did and then went back down to the inside and I pulled those two strands of yarn very tightly and will the ends in and it did a beautiful job. The elastic Loop was in my way also so I just cut mine off without cutting into the pom. But the problem I had with attaching them in that manner was that after contacting various manufacturers of these faux fur poms I learned that they cannot go into a dryer or they will melt which meant that the wearer could not toss their hat into the washer and dryer. It was important to me that they be able to do so. I came across a post on RUclips and I have completely changed how I attach my pom poms. That little elastic Loop is critically important as I learned from the manufacturer and the RUclips post what I do now is make my hat and sew a button to the inside top center of the Hat. Then I slip a crochet hook underneath that and come out the right side of the Hat almost dead center get ahold of that elastic Loop and pull it down to the inside of the Hat and if it's a very short Loop just Loop it around the button once. If it's a pom that comes with a longer Loop you wrap it around the button twice. Then when it comes time to wash the Hat you have a removable pom. Learning that was a God send for me! I love this method so much that I'm never sewing one on again and some people don't want pom-poms so this way it can be removed. I bought inexpensive buttons in white, tan, and black, and use whichever most closely matches my yarn. Very simple very fast but more importantly it's removable. Just a suggestion
I posted it before reading it. I want to add that when I sew my button on it's not really an extra job because I don't use needle and thread. I just go through the button once maybe twice with the joining yarn that's already hanging down inside. I just use a smaller needle to fit through the buttonhole and it goes on so quickly and the pain fits very firmly it doesn't just hang down in a lame manner. Then after attaching the pom I weave in my yarn ends.
@@judypasqualone5392 so. On the inside of the hat, on the very top. Sew a button on to the hat. Then take a crochet hook slide it under the button and poke it through the top of the hat, grab the loop of your pom pom pull it through and loop it around the button. My pompoms have elastic loops as well. However I just used A sharp ended darning needle to sew in thread and attached it the way she did in this video. I hope that helped you! I'm terrible with verbal instructions! ❤
This was extremely helpful I was having problems attacking Pom Pom on my hats and wanted to make them more secure and this definitely does make a difference using this method thank you!!!
This was the best tutorial on how to attach a faux fur pom pom on RUclips. Now my hats will look nicer. I didn't know what to do with the ones I have. Thanks so much.
This has been the best way to attach that I have found so far. Except my materials aren't as easy to use. It's very hard to get the needle through the pom.
Thank you. I usually use snaps, but I saw a cute pom with elastic. I was wondering how I could attach it without “wobble”. This looks like the answer!👏
I don't like the wobble either. I want it to fit on firmly and be stable. Like I mentioned in my comment I used to sell mine on like she does and I wasn't crazy about snaps but if you read my post you'll see I use a button and put the elastic loop around and it fits very very snuggly and that pond has not wobble at all. I wish you could see them.
Liberty F is it easy to remove for washing? The ones I saw, the elastic seemed really long. Did you just wrap it a lot of times around the button, or use a big button? Thanks!
If you ever can, plz make a video for the hats in the thumbnail and vid. It is a gorgeous hat! In kid size or adult. I’ve found ones similar but your patterns are much easier to follow and work up beautifully 🤗👍🏻
Hi thank you. I get compliments on that hat all the time! But when I designed it a couple years ago it the closed version was very similar to another makers design and they asked that I didnt release it.
Thank you! They actually wash just fine attached! I wash the finished beanie on gentle and lay flat to dry. Idk if all poms will hold up in the wash but the ones I use do 😆Thanks for watching!!
Thank you. Yes they are permanent. I have washed these hats with poms on gentle lay flat to dry and they wash fine. I would test one of yours first though before telling customers or gift recipients its washable.
Great video. I am glad that I found you and I just subscribed to your blog and newsletter. What is the name of the hat in this tutorial? Do you sell the pattern in your etsy shop?? I have to find that next...... Thanks!
Hi thank you so much i truly appreciate it! I do not sell the pattern to this hat in my shop. It’s very similar to another designers pattern so I just make them to sell :/
I purchased a loops and threads brand Pom Pom and it came with a large elastic loop attached to the underside of it. Now how would I attach it to my crochet beanie? Since the loop is kind of big I’m kind of confused where to put the yarn around it and how to attach it.

I am SOOO glad I watched your technique before trying to attach my pom. I would have thoroughly mangled my cap.
Yay I'm so glad you found it helpful!
I like this SO much better than having to sew a button on the inside of the hat to secure the elastic loop to. Thank you so much for sharing!!
It is but my Pom Pom has that elastic loop...so how do I secure it with a button? Please.

These are not removeable. For these poms I am able to wash on gentle lay flat to dry with no issues :) I would test yours though before selling them!

Where do you get your fur poms? They are so expensive lol - I’m hoping someone knows where you can get them cheap
You can buy poms at joanns and Hobby Lobby now. I believe Joann's sometimes puts them on sale!
I just bought a faux raccoon Pom at joannes for 3.50$. It looks really nice. But real fur you can get at amazon.
What size is your faux fur pompom in cm?
Im not 100% sure. I wanna say 4-5 inches probably.
