This was basically their own demo video to motivate their team, its honestly a solid move because it gives everyone that initial basis to work towards something rather than have a blank slate and the memories of Kratos screaming 'AAAAAA' echoing in the backs of their minds

After completing Ragnarok and reading the Fallen God comics, I definitely think he’s going to Egypt. “Do it because it is necessary, not because it is written”. Very very very important line.

Since they've already done this cutscene, as they originally planned the Norse sage to actually be Egyptian, plus the early concept art they showed for Egypt as well as all the Egypt references in GoW 2018 and Fallen God comic, I think it's safe to say that the next saga will be set in Egypt.

@@sykune I don’t remember kratos caring about involving himself to help innocent people. His son helped him grow a heart again though and you can see that in god of war throughout the game. Although he’s been trying to control his anger on his own, his son has definitely helped. Atreus wants to help people but kratos is always telling him something like “it’s not our problem boi, we only get involved if it benefits us”. Especially since he wants to remain low key. He will protect those around him but I don’t remember him going out of his way to protect or avenge people. Especially not the old kratos, except for his spartan army. Like I said though. He started changing and even promising to avenge restless spirits so they can rest. Are we talking about the same thing here? I might be going on a rant for no reason. Or explain to me what you’re talking about and how I’m wrong. Maybe I don’t remember so refresh my memory. Sure he knows how dangerous it is for gods to fight each other since if one dies, it can cause the end of the world or at least some really bad natural(or unnatural) disasters. In GoW 2018 there is a wall in the game that you get to discover through exploration. On this wall there are 4 symbols. Besides of the greek one there is a agyptian, a celtic and a japanese one. This are the realms of the gods that tyr has travelled to and traded with those gods and people. I personally believe that we are gonna see all of this realms.
Those aren't realms , they are their own fully fledged pantheons

I mean even if Kratos wanted to go ham on the Egyptian Mythology, the gods there don't die at least not permanently. Heck Ra dies daily and comes back like its a nap. The whole thing that Egyptian mythology is centred around is eternity and that nothing ever really ends, even Osiris came back after being chopped up into little pieces so it might be difficult to even traverse that mythos let alone fight it.
I think they will manage to make their death possible, since they adapted A LOT of the norse mythology content for the goods of the scenario (basically bringing Kratos to interfere in a set mythology forces you to change one or two things ^^). Still, I'm confident about a possible Egypt Saga, and I'll be as patient as needed !
@@rhiilo I don't know about that as death is more of a state of being in Egyptian mythology than a permanence. Even in all canonical deaths in Egyptian mythology they are only temporary measures.
It could probably be that they aren't as antagonistic as the Norse and Greek ones though. Since Greek gods are pretty much known for messing with mortals and Norse gods are flawed to hell and back. Egyptian gods are usually depicted as pretty diplomatic unless we talking Set or Apophis. It could be that when Kratos reaches there he finally gets to rest in peace after he deals with the last few threats the gods there face and then finally gets to retire. But who knows how it will go.

I feel like any studio would have a hard time coming up with 1-3 games for each pantheon.
Maybe the destruction of both the Greek and Norse pantheons create a power vacuum and now Kratos and gang (or whoever’s still alive) get wrapped up in a war between pantheons. Imagine Quetzalcoatl squaring up against Apophis.
Then the name of the game will be war on gods
This makes a lot of sense, especially with Athena seemingly being brought back - her goals would be loftier than having to focus on a particular pantheon.
It’s been said God of War: Ragnarök is the final part of the Norse story. They could easily do just 1 or 2 games in Egypt as well.
He's clearing the way for the coming of the Messiah, who will forgive Kratos of all of his sins and finally give him eternal peace
I hope in Ragnarok that prophecy isn't fully told. We need some more backstory on Faye. I don't to see Kratos die yet. I don't care if it takes 10 years but I would like to see this Egyptian setting put into a full game.

The only idea that keeps popping in my head for future God of Wars is just Kratos traveling to different mythologies and in every area he keeps finding his orphaned kids
Honestly going from the Greek to Egyptian pantheon makes a lot more sense given how interconnected the Greek and Egyptian world(and even the pantheons themselves in some ways) were... though I suppose if your making a story based off Kratos trying to get as far as he could away from his past then him ending up in the land of the Norse fits better.
I think that ultimately the decision was made to sell more games. When 2018 GoW was developed and released the Norse mythology was very popular with tv series like Vikings and other games using that setting like Assassin's Creed, or even Marvel with characters like Thor. So if you're trying to make the most popular game ever it's a good idea to go along with a concept most people are already familiar with. And while Egyptian mythology is not exactly obscure, it's also pretty clear that Norse mythology is a lot more popular in mainstream media.
This is next I cannot wait! I love what they’re doing with GOW!
Norse took the bullet for creating more deeper character development for Kratos and his son. Lots of holding back but the second game looks like they're adding more dynamics to end with a bang. Also they were on a tight budget, but seeing the praise it got they had to definitely give them more wings to soar higher in their creativity. From now on I'm sure the next series will have more bosses and gaming mechanics.

Atreus is growing and his ideas are gaining more knowledge and more Loki like persona, that's developing of his character. As much as Greco-Roman cultures merged with the New Kingdom, this is something along the lines of mythology. In that, Egyptian mythology would not have served as well as Nordic due to a thematic as well as lavish differences. Norse mythology was indeed a better choice for the sequel saga due to its similarity of hierarchy of Gods. Also Roman Germanic cultures influenced each other before Egypt so that adds to the point.
Disagree on this. There is a ton of overlap between Greek and Egyptian mythology from when the Greeks moved into Egypt. In fact, the names you know like Thoth, Horus, Isis, Anubis are actually the Greek version of their names

So i see it likely that they’re gonna use a modified version of the GoW4 engine for the time being, especially since they spent 5 years developing it, GoWR is on it and GoW6 will likely be on it too. I see it likely that Cory is leading a team on GoW6 set in Egypt as we speak and it will lead to another quick turn around for the new game (3-4 years)
True i think they are basically using the same engine of GOW for GOWR coz its releasing for PS4 too. They should update the engine for future entries though because graphically i don't see much difference between both the entries

As much as i like Norse mythology, Egypt would have made more sense/ would have been a better setting for Kratos imo..
Still, can't complain at all about the Norse setting, and who knows he might still end up in Egypt!
I think going to the Norse mythology was better than Egyptian. The Norse is richer and more epic and complex.

I missed a few key points in ragnarok that explains why the game lacked “gods” to fight compared to The old GOWs. There really isn’t that much Norse gods compared to Greek and they aren’t immortal like greek gods. Which explains why we only really had 5 Norse gods, Baldur, Frey, Odin, Thor, Heimdallr that didn’t really feel all that powerful. Egyptian mythology however is full of immortal gods that would prove to be a hefty challenge for Kratos. Anubis being the pacifist god he is wouldn’t fight without interrupting the afterlife and I really don’t see Amun Ra being evil because he fights of a giant creature that wants to eat the sun so my only guess is Sett, Sobek, Serket, the twin serpent sisters and a couple other minor gods that serve Sett. Horus would be a rescue mission because obviously his eyes would get stolen by sett and Thoth would be Egypts version of Mimir. Guiding us through a new world.
It’d be so cool to see Kratos go through all the mythology’s, Egyptian, south Asian, Japanese, pacific island and kill all the gods and have his personality change and become more human then be left as the one true god and rule the right way

It would have made TONS of more sense if Kratos went to Egypt I stead of the Norse lands. After all, Egypt is on the opposite side of the Mediterranean compared to Greece. Instead Kratos went across Europe.

Okay hear me out. We already know Tyr had been meeting with other pantheons right? What if those meetings were more than just Tyr being friendly? What if Tyr was so desperate for some kind of alliance between pantheons because bad things gonna happen soon? Say like some outer gods going batshit crazy? Either way, i strongly believe that Tyr and his journey around the world is an instrumental key to the story.

I'm loving the Norse saga. Especially with my lineage coming from Norway but the Egyptian pantheon would hit so hard
While I love God of War 4 and its take on Norse mythology, I honestly can't wait until Santa Monica Studios will explore Egypt and its gods. It's actually hilarious how they initially wanted Egypt as setting, but then decided to change it because Ubisoft were making AC: Origins. After all, Ubisoft didn't care and then decided to make AC: Valhalla. SMS should've just pushed through with their original plans. Then again, we wouldn't have gotten the memorable GOW4 we have now.
