It was pretty cool to see Tavarish wearing one of your shirts in a recent video as well.
Hell yeah 🎉
Can someone point me to that video? I haven't watched his stuff.
LSC video from 4days ago where they did a food can drive

@@matt13ross ruclips.net/video/lTD4gcx2Nr0/видео.html
Ceramic coat will protect against UV the part without varnish
Next go, get a respirator. That 2k clear is nasty stuff and you don't want to be breathing it in.
This is a very accurate comment. When I used to help develop paint at PPG for BMW, we wore full air supply breathing equipment with waterfall paint capture. Breathing it in would result in 24 hours at the hospital for observation.
I wore one, probably could use a better one though.
Use a ceramic coating on the red part of the light after u buff it.. that will protect it just fine
I would try an adhesion promoter like Bulldog Adhesion Promoter on the red part of the tail light lens. Sometimes plastics don’t accept paint/clear for some reason but this should help.
You have a not giving up trait, that so many don’t have. Great video.
No quitting!
Need a shirt that says that. I’d buy it.
Ha!
Last time I did heat lights I had no clear so ceramic coated them, 2 years later still perfect
the rear lamps had a black tint and that could be still causing the issue, looks like a silicone contaminate. you sorted it in the end to be fair!
They were paint tinted. Very odd problem though!
I've come across similar issues after removing come matte paints (specifically chalkboard paint) from panels. I went down to bare metal and still had contamination. I ended up taking it to a paint and panel shop so they could fix it.
I would recommend PPF on the lights. It will protect them, obviously, but should also act as a sort of clear coat for the red portion on the tail lights.
Definitely would go for the red 3rd brakelight! 🤘😎
You can always put a strip of clear film on the red part of the tail lights
I've used the Spray Max paint in the past. No complaints !!!!
Wear a respirator when spraying 2k products, it's terrible for you
I did I did!
Headlights and taillights look like new. So glossy. You’ve come such a long way with this project. No one could imagine what a train wreck it was when you first got it. Great work!
It was a complete basket case when Matt first bought it. Like you said, the 911 has come a long way.
Thanks a bunch guys!
I really hope that clearcoat is formulated to stick to raw plastic, otherwise it’s going to peel off in a big sheet. When we do this at work, we always use some sort of plastic adhesion promoter like bulldog. Good luck and I hope for your sake that clear is set up for that. Also, never sand by bare hand, get some sort of sponge or flexible block/foam so you get a smooth result instead of digging in with your fingertips…Especially on uneven surfaces you are trying to make flat. Also, just an FIY, if you do wax or put a ceramic coat on the lights, make sure you wait around three months, so the clear can fully off-gas, otherwise you will trap solvents, and it will fail much, much sooner.
Tip to remove the washer caps without risk of breaking them: Apply a little pressure to the feeding pipe behind the headlight and it will retract and can savely be removed. Just have a towel there, some remaining water will spit from applying pressure onto the headlight ;)
Next time! (hopefully won't be one though lol)
Love that we still get the baller music and cinematics for the gas cap lol 👌
YES!! lol
I’m so sorry you had the trouble with those taillights. I’ve had days like that myself. It’s sucks. The car is looking great!
Thanks!
You need to use 'panel wipe' rather than tar and glue before painting, I would say 🤔
For the red plastic perhaps try some spray-on adhesion promoter?
That may help
Hi Matt, have you thought about offering 996 clothing with the standard Turbo spoiler. Could give you more sales.
Please keep the videos coming, giving me loads of ideas.
Solid idea, thanks!
I just found your channel about a month or so ago…. is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels to watch on RUclips.Love the content and the Porsche is looking phenomenal
Thank you!!!
It doesn't even look like the same car. You have definitely killed it .
Thank you!
I ceramic coated mine ( 2x application ) you could do that for the red part…. but they look great 👌🏻👌🏻
If you feel like tackling it again, sand use some adhesion promoter and then clear coat on the rear lamps. I’ve used this stuff in the past and the results were fantastic however this is the first time I’ve seen that issue
Great job! I ended up installing headlight Armor on my car and LED taillights.
I‘m impressed, you know Austria 😂 Its a pitty that so much stuff, you use is not available in Europe :-(
I just want to say, and in Filipino, POGI PARE! Those cleared head and tail lights are bringing everything together... but just like in your previous videos, where are the BBS wheels? :)
Looking good! 👍👍
Don't use a dust mask when clear coating, this won't help with chemicals. Use a proper chemical safe mask !
I highly recommended you PPF the headlights to protect them from stone chips
Also you need to be very very careful breathing in all those carcinogens.
Use a 3M N95 or even better a respirator.
The Poorsche is really coming to getter. Change the break light to red. Love the car.
Love the Porsche videos!🎉
thanks!
Glad to see the channel taking off. Big kudos !!
Meh, the growth has been steady, but kinda slow lol.
Love your channel! Theres a company from japan that makes a taillight spray the brand is called vans its a $50 can that dries in seconds and works flawlessly spray it on the red section. It literally makes it look brand new and it comes out glossy and doesn’t fade. Its not like the cheap VHT crap.
For the red part of the rear light, use acryl transparent primar, then go with a protective coat.
The problem with the taillights probably has got to do with the tintpaint. If you would try it again maybe try some silicone remover.
Try sprayway glass cleaner for final wipe down before clear, I've had great results
LOLOLOL
Hey Matt, you have above and beyond man. Time to tap out soon. Enjoy your sweet ride now. Love your vids.
Now it's time for more fun mods!
Your car is looking awesome! - great work and a pleasure to watch the progress! Just wanted to point out that it looks like your 3rd brake light was working when you pulled it out of the garage at 12:24, but not when tail lights were back in…
26:30 everything working
i thing you can use ppf to protect them
Maybe just ceramic coat the red part of the tail light.
Good point!
Put clear ppf on red part
Try a clear PPF with UV protection on the tails to add that protection youre looking for?
looking great! Good work Matt. Loving this build. Go K24 now! Its amazing :)
NO HONDA SWAPS! lol
Cerakote ceramic headlight kit works best....been through 2k clears, other ceramic coatings, Megiuars headlight coating.....it outperforms all of them @ $17.00
That is one sexy build!!!!
It’s the end result that counts hehe well done💪🏼
Agreed, thanks!
Try a plastic film clear protractor, then clear coat on it.
”but make sure it’s ok to put clear coat on plastic”
I am impressed at how you deal with adversity! Btw. 3rd breaklight has to go..
Has to go?
Matt, love the videos. I have had the Porsche bug for a while now, never really looked for a 996 because of the headlights, but after watching your videos, I grown to appreciate them. Any tips of what to look out for when buying a 996?
There are many more knowledgeable people than me when it comes to these cars. Depends on the model you're looking at too.
the progress is insane. love the videos! If there was one thing i would change, it would be the wheels as i think the black doesnt go amazingly with the yellow. a pair of BBS would be sick. but thats just a preference tbh and it looks great anyway. Keep it up!
Wheel change coming!
@@matt13ross AYY I just saw this, I was on holiday but thats great, can't wait!!
The lights are a million times better Matt. Really weird about the red/clear thing though??? 👍🏻
VERY WEIRD!
Just a heads up, 2K primer is really bad to breath in. If you spray it, you should use a real respirator.
You have the lights all polished up... Just put PPF on them 😭
Excited to see if the gas cap fixed the code
same!
If the light comes back on the change the purge valve. It will reset after 96 miles of driving if you set the od2 drive cycle . Or on the scan tool channel 70 or 77 will activate live test in readiness mode.
You sure the purge valve is the issues?
3.33 Make sure you hit that hardener activator HARD to inject it into the spray can! I smacked in on the bench, you can't do it by hand. 13:37 Looks like you did
I did it on the floor first.
Gas cap montage had me lol'ing. What about a clear 3rd brake light? Would blend in with the yellow better than smoke or red.
But the tails are red, that's why i'm thinking red.
What do you think of replacing the rims with OEM 997 turbo wheels? I did that on mine and I absolutely love it
I want to be a little more different.
Looks good, you need new (new to you) OEM lights in the back anyway that aren't cracked... then you can do the 750HP turbo upgrades.
Find me some that don't break the bank!
@@matt13ross I think I do have some 996 twists sitting in my front yard, not hollow spokes.
@@matt13ross I wrote a longer response but RUclips deleted it for whatever reason. I found some lights for around eight hondred
Too much $$$ for me to be worth it.
Clear plastic primer matt
Headlights are a Lexan type plastic. Tail lights are a regular type plastic. The clear might melting them. I would left the tail lights alone. They would not oxidize like the headlights. And please fix that hole in the front bumper.
PPF the lights instead of clear
Too late!
Was wondering why you didn't use glass cleaner for a second straight video?
LOLOLOL
I noticed your gas flap doesn’t stay open on its own. On my 997 turbo, it “locks” open, but I don’t know if they changed the design. Just mentioning in case you can get a new opening mechanism.
Yea I figured it should stay open. I have to look into that.
It looks like you need to adjust those headlights. The top part should sit flushed with the fenders.
I do!
I miss your videos on the ZR two when do you think you’ll get one I Colorado
I would love the new ZR2 Bison, but I don't have the budget for that right now.
No offense Matt, but this is why painters use “painter prep” products from a professional store. Not stuff they have sitting around their garage. You really should have called your professional friend who painted your car (maybe he can paint your missing bumper plug) or sought out the pros at a local store before starting. Painting in 100% humidity doesn’t help either
I like to DIY everything I can. In the end, it turned out nice anyway.
Hi Matt. I'm also a 996 Turbo owner in the UK, loving your content and learning loads. Currently repairing and polishing a replacement headlight unit for my car, I noticed you sanded this time to 1000grit but didn't buff before applying clear coat, is this a feature of the clear coat that it removes the cloudiness from the lens? Sorry if this is a silly question.
Just a word of warning, I hit a bird and smashed the lens on my original unit, sourced a 2nd hand complete unit from ebay, Turbo lights are different to normal carrera and very rare, so the guy charged me £996, funny guy :( ! It arrived damaged with 2 of the 4 lug type things that it slides in and out of the car on and hold it in place, snapped off. But as there were no other units in the UK (other than new from Porsche at £2500) I'm attempting to repair them either by plastic welding or adhesive, so just be careful taking the units in and out of the car, repairing or sourcing a new unit is a complete nightmare. Most of the time owning a Turbo is a nightmare so I fell you pain, but when it comes on boost..... :)!
Yes, they need to be sanded before clear. The clear coat then fills in the sand marks, sticks, and looks like glass.
Wasn't there some trail light wrap on there before? Maybe left over adhesive?
No wrap, they were paint tinted though.
Was the taillight bottom part not black before? and when removing it had some effect to clear coat being accepted?
My front headlights have 3M clear protection wrap. I think that’s best way to protect front lights from damage and fade.
It was paint tinted.
Next time wipe it down with solvent when the clear coat is still wet asap so you don’t have to sand it all off
I've done that before and it mad a bigger, nastier mess.
You can screw the cap to the cover!
Screw?
You should have sprayed adhesive promoter first thats why doesn't stick
But it's weird it only had that issue on part of the tails.
Matt, what's the EVAP code is throwing? Like you said, it could be a slew of problems.
But since it's an older car, I would look into stuff like the charcoal canister, or purge valve, or regeneration valve.
P0446. There's SO many things it could be!
@@matt13ross yeah could be a lot. I can't remember if you're having any issues like hard starts, problem at the gas pump stopping while filling.
Don't have those issues, no.
Pretty much just sorting a few minor issues now :) Well done. I really wish I had a project Porsche like this :)
this isn't about you Mathew
@@slowery43 My god, you mean it isn't my own personal channel to share my experiences with? Where's my ad revenue??? 😛 /S
Technically it is about Matthew....lol (me)
6:54 was that blinker fluid squirting out?
LOL yes!
Does your fuel door lock? Have you checked it? Mine does not currently on my 03 996TT.
I know you don't want more projects but I also know you want it right.
I recently added those 'light savers' to my car as they were deteriorated in the normal way.
Mine does lock, yes.
Hey Matt, just a thought. Why don’t you try a different clear coat product on the tail lights?
I'm satisfied with how they look now.
Fucking hell stop teasing us with those KW V3s just laying around. Get them on the car!!!
They are on now :)
Did the new gas cap fix the dashlight code?
Need to drive it more
PPF them instead of clearcoat
Too late meow
The 2k clear is cancerous Matt next time you spray get a respirator because it can harden in your lungs
The red on the tail lights is a mystery, but the car continues to impress now you have most the work done. Its surely a keeper now. Next stop, more BHP?
Thanks! Needs a clutch before more HP.
Before putting the 2k clearcoat you should have used Plastic Adhesion Promoter to avoid the clearcoat to flake off! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't think it's going to flake off, we shall see though.
What code reader do you use?
A few, Carly, Ancel.
Since when are headlights/ tail lights clear coated anyway... I figured the UV protection was added into the plastic itself? OR why not just ceramic coat them?
Ceramic coating is a step above wax, it's not an end all be all product.
@Matt13Ross agreed, you'd have to re-apply every 6 months or so. But my biggest thing is... are tail-lights normally clear coated?
Good question, not sure about the tails!
I’m thinking the black tint that was on the red part of the taillights is your culprit.
Weird though, as it had been all sanded off and buffed over thoroughly.
I’m wondering if because window tint is designed to stick to glass, some of the chemicals in the adhesive caused the reaction?
Who knows???
LETS GO BRANDON!
dude - Crocs? 🙂
comfy!
Which low beam bulbs are you using?
I have them linked in description box.
I see the turn signal and the fog, but not the headlight
Did you check the headlight video?
@@matt13ross nope
Should be in there
I used to paint guitars, and this kind of issues happens all the time, if you don't know how to do it properly is a pain in the A$$.
Stop doing any more paint jobs after that 😅
Looks great btw 👌
Painting is frustrating work!
should've just put ppf on the lights. Much easier, faster and longer lasting
maybe he still could for the red
I don't think ppf is longer lasting, but we will see!
Just so you know in time there going to turn yellow
Why?
@@matt13ross Because of the chemicals in the clear the hardner
crocs are very bad shop shoes. too slippery. You almost wiped out, bro
You are correct lol
Love it! But please, for the love of God, get yourself a 3M respirator. That clear coat is extremely harmful and that little mask is not going to do anything, especially in a close environment. Keep up the good work though.
