This car is gonna be mint by the time you're finished fixing it. Great work.
Hopefully!
Just sharing experience from my e85 N54. Most of the rubber hoses like the stuff you used is marked as "E85 Safe" but are not intended to be SUBMERGED. They will bloat and burst over time depending on the mix you run. "Submersible PTFE Fuel Tubing" is what you're looking for. Its not exactly cheap, Radium was selling 13" sections for $20, but it will be cheaper than a tow. It looks an awful lot like the corrugated stuff you just took out.
^ This. Matt, you should double check its submersible otherwise you'll have problems pretty quickly.
came here to say the same thing. Onl;y use submerisble fuel hose in your Pumps/buckets
Man, you guys that commented about the submersible fuel hose, THANK YOU! I ordered new stuff, didn't even think about it!
@@matt13ross we love the series and got you covered. Truth is we want to see you open the tank at least two more times so you're up to your elbow in gas 🤣
Thanks for the tip fellas! I’m actually doing an engine swap on my 335 as we speak. The old leaky injector to bad knocking sound.😭
I am FBO already, however, taking the opportunity to do a turbo upgrade and flex fuel.
Lol, at 4:50 if you slide the rubber boots off of the back of the lights the wires can be removed from the lenses.
Damn, too late! lol
The problem with the windows is most likely the switches on the door handles, interior and exterior, and on the door latch itself. The windows are supposed to go down about 1/4" if they are all the way up when either handle gets tugged to clear the window body molding. When the door closes they go back up.
I give my vote for the wiring to have a split where it is going from the door to the body in a rubber boot.
I know they are supposed to go up and down, but it's not working PLUS the window does auto up or down. It only goes an inch at a time.
@@matt13ross I had a similar issue with my 2016 Camaro SS. Window would go down the inch to open door but never go back up. If you kept opening the door it would work it's way all the way down but never come back up on its own. What i found is with Can-bus wiring everything is connected and it turned out my gear position switch was bad and adversely affecting the window module. Replaced gear position switch (the only trouble code i was getting ) and window started working. It sounds crazy but true. Good luck with your troubleshooting.
TTs of the era have the problem with the window not dropping and that is usually the microswitch on the regulator being bad. Idk if this is the same but hopefully it helps.
@@matt13rossI would try replacing the regulator first. On my turbo I had taken apart the door lock and replaced some of the microswitches but that was just to remedy the 1/4 function. Yours certainly sounds like it is more than than that and likely regulator related.
The license plate light wires didnt need cutting. I also wondered this when taking off my bumper. Its a strange setup and you will figure it out when you take off the actual lights and peek under the rubber thing
Too late now lol.
I have been waiting so long for an update about the Porsche! Keep up the good content!
Thank you, will do!
I’m hearing ya ! Me 2
When I did my turbo fuel pump, I sourced new submersible line from Summit. They have it in a few different lengths, and it basically heat shrinks on to whatever you're installing it. Just had to be patient with it. Holley in tank fuel line would be a good search.
Man, you guys that commented about the submersible fuel hose, THANK YOU! I ordered new stuff, didn't even think about it!
With those clamps/fasteners you have on the fuel lines, you use pick tools to free them. Slide one ‘under the bridge’ (bowed section) and pull up. Should it’s self easily.
They are a PITA!
This is one series I just can’t get enough of! I hope this helps grow your channel to reflect the work you do and helps better yourself!
I hope so too, thanks!
Those are "single ear hose clamps". They can be unlatched but not reused (obviously). They are the best clamps for not over tightening and for a uniform clamping force. Once you are used to using them they are pretty easy to unlatch.
Honestly, rly enjoying this porsche coming alone, dont feel let down when looking at it rn man, u know its gonna come along soon! Keep updating us 💪❤️
Wawa gang 4Life. This has become my favorite series on youtube. Can't get enough.
Kind words, thank you!
Kind of stumbled on to your chanel, and I'm glad that I did! The process feels really honest and sometimes the struggle feels all mighty. To many channels is showing everything as it is all cakes and candy...
Best of luck and thanks for sale great content!
Thanks for tuning in!
Big fan and fellow Porsche owner, super videos but please no more wire connectors 🥹 SOLDER! 👨🏻🏭😂
There are preferences for either. There are very reputable shops who prefer crimping over solder over a belief that excessive heat in the joint will make for a weaker connection 🤷♂️
I'm a big crimper + heat shrink guy!
Matt, just recently discovered your channel. I’m a fellow Porsche owner and love the turbo series. Seems like you can fix anything. Keep up the great work, in grade videos. Love them.
Thanks for the support!
I highly recommend to install your side skirts unpainted and put your car out in the sun for 1-2 weeks for them to take a shape of your car. This way when you will install them back after painting you won't need to flex them and the paint won't crack.
That's a good idea. Wonder if it's worth it now because it's not warm out anymore.
Love this build, look forward to see what’ll happen next. The most heinous part of the car are the blacked out tail lights. So bad. Hope to get that replaced soon! Also por-SHUH
Eventually, yes, but have a TON of stuff to take care of before those.
absolutely love this series man! cant wait to start mine
Loving this series! Great work and videos. Cant believe you're not getting 10x the views. Keep it up!
Views are going up slowly so I'm thankful for that!
@@matt13ross You should be posting your videos or a playlist like the turbo one, one some forums and Facebook groups. It's a great series and peiole will be happy for the recommendation. I'm in a few different Porsche groups I'll happily post this, maybe you can encourage other subscribers to do the same?
I post there sometimes. If you want to share that would be great, thanks!
Hellz Yeah!!! Love the progress on the Porsche🤙
Diagonal cutters or the small bolt cutters are the best way to remove those hose clamps
Is that an airbag inside the door panel? Be sure to disconnect the battery any time you are working around airbags.
Also want to say I'm really enjoying the build and good luck with the project!
Yup sure is. Battery is disconnected other than to put the window up. I have it on a charger but ground disconnected.
my experience with fuel pressure dropping like that *without* driveability issues is usually related to either a faulty fuel pressure regulator, or fuel pump check valve. i have yet to replace a fuel pump with a faulty check valve that did not have output issues, but since i believe this fuel system is a returnless design, with no driveabilty issues, i would have gone with the fpr. according to the diagrams, it appears to be a traditional looking unit near the pump. i forget, were you experiencing extended cranking time to start??
digging the content, and i feel you on the bigger garage thing. the kicker is, you will take up all of that room as well in little to no time. it's a never ending battle of space and time and projects.....
I believe it's the check valve, I'm replacing more fuel related things so I'll find out soon enough!
Coming along nicely! Is the fuel line you got for the fuel pump rated for submersion? It has to be specifically rated or it will turn to goo in the gas tank. Don’t want you to have to do it again!
this is important
Man, you guys that commented about the submersible fuel hose, THANK YOU! I ordered new stuff, didn't even think about it!
Great video great channel !!
Thank you!
Teaching the Window position programs the door module what the current sense limit is for the Window motor for the full up or down function.
How do I do that?
I dont trust the worm type hose clamps... you should get a oetiker clamp kit, will come with tool and everything you need.
On the way!
Was the fuel hose you used OK to be submerged? Normal fuel hose will break over time if submerged.
Man, you guys that commented about the submersible fuel hose, THANK YOU! I ordered new stuff, didn't even think about it!
Foreshadowing? “Need a bigger garage pronto.” Great Porsche content👍🇨🇦
I WISH! Someday I'll have a big garage.
My garage could be your Porsche scrap yard! Haha, love these vids, can’t wait to see the car done!
Thank you!
Fun vid, keep it up she will be gem when you finish
The frame the video ends on is so cursed I love it.
Keep grinding ! It’s gonna be worth it !
The ear clamps are easily remove placing a flat screw drive in the crushed area and twist
I would’ve soldered those fuel wiring connections, but you’ll probably be alright
Definitely solder those wires, it’s much more reliable than crimping
I've never had any issues with crimping plus heat shrink.
I'd switch that hose back out for e85 submersible capable hose and switch to fuel injection clamps from worm gear clamps.
Man, you guys that commented about the submersible fuel hose, THANK YOU! I ordered new stuff, didn't even think about it!
Fuel pressure regulator is often the culprit of fuel pressure loss. And if I’m not mistaken, they’re sometimes a part of the fuel filter assembly
Replacing the fuel filter as well.
Those factory clips u have to use small screwdriver and go between the little thing and I pops open
They never pop for me lol.
For the window regulator, it could be that it needs to be calibrated . I had a similar issue on one of my bmws, I don’t remember how I did it, but I’d look into that.
That was my thought but I couldn't get it to calibrate. Maybe I did it wrong too.
@@matt13ross it is Porsche after all could be some over engineered fix or something simple. Hopefully you figure it out though.
Good stuff Matt! Fellow Philly-accented car video-editor-guy. Cheers
Philly accent? Haha!
@@matt13ross haha yes as soon as I heard your voice I knew you were from between New York and Maryland

Nice garage and nice car
Thank you!
Love this series, I see your rear lights mounts are cracked, Check out the lightsavers by rennfix. I had one of my rear lights hanging out of my 4s a few weeks ago 😱
I already have them on the car lol.
@@matt13ross ah didn’t see that. Well that was easy😂When is that rear light tint coming off 😅
Idk if I can get it off. Seems legit painted on with clear.
Great work while working on fuel tank and charging battery, spark should change everything...
Agreed
Was that fuel hose submersible fuel hose? Regular fuel hose is made to withstand fuel on the inside only, any hose going in the tank has to be made to be submersed ie. fuel resistant on the outside as well. The submersible fuel hose was like $30/ft when I did a fuel pump repair preivously
Man, you guys that commented about the submersible fuel hose, THANK YOU! I ordered new stuff, didn't even think about it!
For the clips on the fuel pump lines, you put the right size screwdriver in the opening of the clamp and twist left and right to make the opening bigger. Those are german clamps, you can find them on every german car. And if you want to use them again, which i dont think so 🤣, you squeze them with pliers.
Ah gotcha, I'll try that next time, thanks!
@@matt13ross I agree with RKMedia. I believe these are called Ear clamps. Look for a company called Oetiker, they make the clamps and the special tool to install them (careful use of side cutters can install them but not recommended). These are one time use clamps technically, but I have reused them in low pressure applications. I suggest replacing for this application.
I replaced for sure, they are just a pain to remove too lol.
@@matt13ross Yeah. Just watch out so that you dont cut or stab yourself with screwdriver. Happend few times when i was working on my E34... slightly but still hurts 😅
You need to recalibrated window regulator to module.need a good scanner
Wonder if my new scanner would work.
The steps back are making for good content, keep going.
That is true
Good things take time…. Keep pushing 💪👍💥🇳🇿
You have to cut oetiker clamps, they are one time use only.
Right, I just find it a PITA to cut through them lol.
leaking injector would cause a loss of fuel pressure when you shut it off.
That's a thought I have.
No no no no. Dont cut the wires from the licence plate lights!!! Yiu have to remove the philips screw from the lights and then you can pull the wires out. Porsche didnt make it to just cut the wire
Too late haha!

That's exactly right!
Not sure if this is your window regulator issue, but on my Porsche 986, the wire insulation quality is very poor on headlights and tail lights. It crumbles when touched (what's left of it), and I had a bunch of short circuits that were causing the wrong lights to turn on. I ended up soldering together all of my own wiring for the front and rear lights (full day project). Seems like something to consider with that window issue...
I'll dive deeper in there and check that out, thanks!
Replace the window regulator. It's easy and cheap and they fail a lot. When I bought my 04 C4S both of mine were bad. I replaced them, did the "programming" steps and they've worked great ever since. Ebay has the best prices, but you can do what you want on that. The OEM ones were junk and the new ones have improved the design, so I'm hoping they will last a long time.
What programming did you do? Having a hard time finding the correct one.
oohh big yes for us style big thing in rear bumper deleting lol "sorry i'm french" lol
Window is likely handle microswitches or the regulator itself.
What sort of break in time and space do you live in to have a sheetz and wawa?
And Turkey Hill lol. Just no Rutters near me.
@@matt13ross Haha, nice. Agree on the Wawa coffee. Great series with the 911 by the way.
NO!!!! Of course you can remove them without cutting the wires--there are spade terminals at the lights!!!
Too late! lol
I missed the peeing meme the first time. 😂😂
Ugh… I’m literally in the market for one now. Test drove a silver manual this weekend. I keep finding these nightmare 996 videos. I thought they were bullet proof. I’m so torn….
Def not bulletproof BUT they can certainly make a lot of power!
@@matt13ross I have a C5Z I’m trading for a 996 TT or a M4. Doing my due diligence on reliability. I hate breaking down.
C5Z is a SOLID car!
@@matt13ross I think so. Lol.
Wawa is life
Word!
as said in another comment, the window problem is stemming from corroded microswitches in the door handle and/or door latch. you can replace the whole latch for hundreds or just the switches for $5 each? $10 each? (i forget, there's 2 or three of them on each latch) clearly a budget question, but be warned, replacing the switches is a fiddley job. check youtube. there are videos, i think from a 986 boxster.
What about the issue that the window only goes up and down a little bit a time?
@@matt13ross im trying to work through the logic... as to what might be going wrong. youre in md by the way? im in chester county pa.

Turbos seem fine, boost / vac leak I'm thinking.
Everything but the wheels 👌

I had so many of your issues but over a longer period, had other ones too you haven’t had yet.
I'm sure I have plenty more to go!
Always solder your wires man!!!
I've never soldered, big debate on which is better. I haven't had issues with a good crimp with heat shrink connectors.

Love the videos and the process of fixing everything up.
One thing though - what's with the epidemic of people using phrases like "Needs painted, needs fixed", etc.? You're mixing past and future tense. It's lazy and doesn't make sense. Needs to be painted. Needs Painting. Not "needs painted".
Idk, that's just how I've always said it. Generally I have good grammar and such, as in, I hate when people say "I seen that".

Around 38K ish give or take (trade values and such). It has just shy of 150,000 miles.
You gotta paint those side vents and even the top of the wing. Who owned this car before you, a 12 year old?
Eventually, but that's way down low on my list of priorities right now.
@@matt13ross I just thought if you are sending out the bumpers now, adding the ducts and wing would be perfect. The colour would even match better. Probably be cheaper to?
That's true but I'd also have to add the mirrors along with the roof, not ready for all of that yet! But don't worry, eventually!
