The FunnyPlaying FPGBC is an easy-to-build affordable high-quality FPGA Game Boy Color that uses no original Nintendo parts yet is fully compatible with all games and is built with convenient modern tech!
However, despite the system being incredibly well designed, they did not bother to put together the most rudimentary assembly instructions and there are some important stuff that you need to know in order to put it together without cracking the case, messing up the screen or shorting out the motherboard.
Putting one together isn't tough at all as long as you follow the right steps, so make sure you watch this video.

The big sticker goes back of the screen panel so it doesn't short out. The small strip of sticker is just like you've placed it. I wish it came with instructions, I was confused myself. Great video nonetheless and blacking out your battery sticker looks great regardless with your case. NOice.
Well today is two different theories but where that sticker goes. The battery or the back of the screen. I didn't put mine on the back of the screen because when I initially tested mine I used a piece of cardboard as an insulating agent in between the screen and the motherboard. Then when the motherboard was in the case they are separated by an air gap because the screen can't physically touch the motherboard at that point due to the case.
Again, I still fight it. Just so weird that they didn't even bother to write out some instructions, especially since this is sort of unofficially targeted at beginners to Game Boy mods.
Mine didn’t came with any stickers
@@Ricky-ju9ms well that sucks. I got a little horizontal strip sticker that I put on the screen and then a big black sticker that I wrapped around the battery but apparently some people put that on the back of the screen. Again, I wish that they actually had some documentation
@@8bitjoystick yeah, maybe even just a QR code for online manual, I ended up painting it with a sharpie and it worked just fine
Nice video! Glad you were able to get the middle screw in successfully. I am on the website looking at the case and button colors. I would also want to get an Everdrive GB x7, since my GB/GBC physical cart collection is almost non-existent. Does the save/load state function well?
Make sure that you choose Game Boy Color buttons. I initially bought gameplay pocket buttons and they didn't quite fit right. I also have an everdrive GBx7 and love it. The load and save states on it works great on this system. You can also swap between the Game Boy Color core and the Game Boy core to alternate between having it show up with the correct system. I actually used it in this video because I don't have a physical copy of that Hammerin Harry game
How long did it take to ship and actually arrive to your door from china directly from Funny Playing in china?
Did you get hit with any import duties?
How’s the battery life ?and is it possible to use normal batteries if you don’t want to use the rechargeable battery pack?
It took 10 days but the shipping was included so it wasn't air shipped or anything. That's not bad for a package going around the world.
The battery life is freaking excellent and there is a pretty decent user replaceable battery and you can charge it via USB-C. But you cannot use AA batteries with this model. You're basically buying a kit for a fully tricked out fpga Game Boy Color and putting it together yourself and it's way cheaper than buying the mods and using original hardware.
No import duties for me in the US
Definitely check out my video review.

@@8bitjoystick awesome ordered thanks for replying
@@kieranjohnstone6197 make sure you order a screwdriver kit if you don't also have a tri-Wing screwdriver
@@8bitjoystick would just like to thank you buddy for your video it really helped me build mine
I tested screen without battery connection by powering on the motherboard using a USB c cable
The included stickers are for isolating the bit of copper at the front and the back metal of the screen
Pre threading the screws beforehand was extremely helpful information install of the fpgbc was straight forward and I installed the 3 screw no problem thanks to pre threading posts
The longest part of install for me was the battery connector it’s a pain in the ass to fit- remove spring and use something plastic or wooden to avoid shorts
Other than that fantastic device with a rather tight power switch like yourself
Delivery from china to uk was 7 days and was delivered by yun express/ Evri
No import tax and shipping was free and fully tracked
Yo you said to use the triwing screws to secure the motherboard down, which was incorrect. The three shorter philips screws were supposed to secure the motherboard down. I trusted your instructions and the longer screws went through the front case.
Like, I should have been more careful, but I was nervous so I followed your instructions closely and broke my shit. Dont make assembly videos if you're going to fuck up.
I am sorry to hear it cracked, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear if there was some confusion.
At Timestamp 1:21 I said the Phillips screws attach the motherboard to the case.

At 4:40 I said to use the Phillips screws on the motherboard.

I wish FunnyPlaying put together some instructions.
It is a cool system that needs some actual documentation
