    i *love* stumbling upon a youtube channel, scrolling down the old videos, and suddenly there's a pentarou on a thumbnail. i cannot not click on that ! penguin adventure (the sequel to antarctic adventure) was one of the very first games i've ever played, on my father's msx back in the very early 90s. if was like 5 or 6, and that little penguin has never left my memory (he became some sort of a mascot for the msx, too, as konami churned *dozens* of incredible games for the little computer). i made the argument once that antarctic adventure was the very first autorunner, but i could be mistaken on that one :P i've never played the famicom version, though... might put that on my to-do list ;)

I do definitely want to go back to these games because I do love them. If you haven't played the famicom version of them, you really need to check them out. Antarctic adventure is a pretty fun cartoony racing game, The famicom version of Parodius is damn good, and punches well above its weight class. And then Yume Penguin Mogatari is brilliantly made, and completely insane. I will always be impressed by what Konami could do in the 1980s and 1990s. Encouraging people to go and check this stuff out is one of the actual reasons why I make this channel in the first place

    Tetris is ok but I never liked it as much as my parents did. I always preferred Dr. Mario or Wario's Woods. I think a big factor is I like to understand what my character's goal is in games and why we are doing whatever we are in the game. Tetris leaves you no idea why we are trying to stop the blocks from building up. unless you reach the ending cutscene and even then I honestly still don't get how what we are doing leads to the ending. I'm surprised no Mega Man games made the cut, and I would personally put both the second Saga/Final Fantasy Legend game and the second Gameboy Castlevania on the list over the first games in the series. I would probably include the third Saga/Final Fantasy Legend game as well because its gameplay is very different then the first two games.

    I was at the Pasadena Retro Game Convention today and saw the console in person. The thing is, neither Palmer Luckey and his staff seem to be able to articulate what distinguish this console compared to what options are out there. The staff only said, "We want to make things perfect." Well, modded Gameboy/GBA/Analogue can play GB games just fine. My wife actually saw half of the screen suddenly turned dark right after the staff said, "See, everything is perfect!" The staff took the console away immediately, though he was about to let me try it. Not too reassuring! I want to understand the advantage in this Modretro console so that I can decide whether to get it or not.

      @8bitjoystick The screen looked great, other than the partial blackout. The sound was great too. However, I would say the same thing for Analogue Pocket and FPGBC.

    Maybe HDMI will be added at release time.

    • @8bitjoystick
      @8bitjoystick 18 дней назад

      I hope so, but I doubt it. It's very uncommon for there to be major Hardware revisions at this stage of development. I think it has to do with their licensing deals with various publishers. For example, some namco games will only display on their portable systems but not consoles. But if it's a portable system then why doesn't it have a built-in battery. If it's a portable, you shouldn't have to plug it into the wall to play it. Of course, what's crazy is that there's the evercade exp which I have which has HDMI out and is a portable. So I think the no HDMI out is more licensing reasons. Personally, I don't have an evercade vs. And if this thing had an HDMI out you would need to get an Evercade VS, so that's the other possible reason.

    The important question for me is can you remap the a and b buttons accordingly so you hit the bottom button for jump and the right button for attack. The way it was mapped on the said console?

      Thank you. I actually studied Japanese in high school and got to spend a summer in Japan in 1994. That's one of the reasons why I have such a fascination with Japanese games of the '80s and '90s. I'm actually working on a video right now on a famicom games based on '80s anime. My former girlfriend used to refer to me as the "famicom guy" because I primarily collect Japanese versions of games and I probably have more super famicom and famicom games than anyone else in my entire city.

      ありがとうございます。実は高校時代に日本語を勉強していて、1994年に日本で夏を過ごしたことがあります。それが、80年代や90年代の日本のゲームにとても興味を持っている理由の1つです。実は今、80年代のアニメをベースにしたファミコンゲームのビデオを制作中です。私の元ガールフレンドは、私が主に日本のバージョンのゲームを集めていて、おそらく私の住む町の誰よりもスーパーファミコンやファミコンのゲームを持っているので、私のことを「ファミコン野郎」と呼んでいました。

    I really enjoyed this game. It was great that they released the remaster, although I think the sequel (Sega Saturn?) won't be getting the same treatment in the West. The digital artbook has some gorgeous designs, and it was wonderful to see so much effort put into the lore and backstory of a SNES sidescroller mech shooter. I even bought two of the PLUM model kits.

      It is more a re-translation than a remake. if anything it is closer to the Japanese version and has all the bleakness of the original, again just like Mobile Suit Gundam that is also bleak and bloody at times. Now I want to check out the PlayStation 2 remake that I did not know about until now gamicus.fandom.com/wiki/Cybernator#:~:text=Differences%20between%20versions,-Cybernator%20was%20the&text=The%20Japanese%20version%20features%20written,has%20been%20defeated%2C%20commits%20suicide.
