    I looooove Secrets and Lies. Brenda was good in that movie. She really drew me into feeling her dignity be crushed each and every time.
    If Emily Watson did Breaking the Waves now, she would win it. That role was ahead of its time

    Fargo was so Thelma and Louise wrapped up in one woman. Thank you. Amazing actress. Awesome acting. Brave and courage manifests with this human daring to portray the lead in this film. WOWEE!!!

      Yes, to be fair, she probably should have won the Oscar for it. A breathtaking performance. But it was her breakout role (some breakout!) and McDormand was the runaway favourite, from what I recall - had she not won, it would have been quite the upset.

    I love Frances McDormand.. but this award shouldve gone to Emily Watson.. her performance was too deep and emotional in Breaking the Waves.. in fact i think it mustve been one of the toughest years for the oscar to choose the best actress.. Brenda was really good as well.. and Frances' character in Fargo was too heroic..

      I agree. Based on the applause after bits of the respective nominees’ movie clips were shown, Emily Watson got the second loudest roar. For me it is the toughest most competitive race for Best Actress!

    Fargo is a classic, the Cohen Brothers are geniuses, Frances, nailed her character, as well as James Macy, and Steve Buscemi. Remember Raising Arizona, with Nicholas Cage, and Frances played a small part as Holly Hunters Trashy friend.🤓
