5XChamps2 Shit. She’s brilliant in everything she ever did. Even the campfest Whatever Happened To Aunt Alice is an award worthy turn. My favorite performance of hers is in Woody Allen’s Interiors. What a brilliant film.
5XChamps I totally agree with you! I’d thought that Whoopi was robbed as her performance in the Color Purple was just astounding. But then I watched Geraldine Page in ‘ A Trip to Bountiful’ for the first time yesterday and I was just totally blown away by her performance in that role. The subtlety, the nuances, the timing, the facial expressions. It was acting for an Actors clinic. I could watch her in that film over and over again and never tire of any of her scenes.
I think Geraldine Page is one of the greatest actresses ever. Every performance from her was oscar worthy. So glad she finally received one before she left this earth.
One of the greatest movies ever made. She had so much to say, and nobody was listening, save one little lady on a bus. All she wanted to do, was go home one more time. I know how that feels. I cry from opening to closing credits. Wonderful movie.
And Geraldine Page deserved the OSCAR 100%....No one was going to beat her on her 8th Nomination for a "The Trip to Bountiful". ALL HAIL to GERALDINE! And I just watched "TheTrip to Bountiful" May 8, 2024 once again. OMG! What a natural, beautiful performance, so genuine and real, Geraldine as Carrie Watts pulling off a miraculous performance that will never be forgotten!
“I consider this woman to be the greatest actress known, in the English Language”. Well, if that doesn’t sum her up. I fell head over heals in love with Ms. Carrie Watts, and was physically moved by Ms. Page’s performance. Like no other…
If you haven't watched The Trip to Bountiful with Geraldine Page you really are missing out on a great story and a great film that never did much at the box office but is a real classic film.
I finally just saw it on TCM tonight. A way too long time coming. Wonderful movie. There aren't any good enough words to describe how superb Geraldine Page's performance is.
you are right She reminds me of Jessica Tandy in "Driving Miss Daisy" both gave tremendous performances in each of their movies. RIP Geraldine and Jessica
You just can’t help but get tears in your eyes as Geraldine Page goes to the stage to collect her Oscar, and knowing she’d be gone just over a year later.
You can actually SEE Jessica Lange mouth “Geraldine Paige” when he says “I consider this woman the greatest actress in the English language.” I also LOVE that the song played while she walks up is Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling

Geraldine Page ABSOLUTELY had this Oscar hands down & so pleased that she was recognized . I LOVE Geraldine Page . This is among my favorite film top 20 list
She limited her acceptance speech to this particular film for which she won and mentioned all those associated with her win, not her family and career...showed real class! We will never see her likes in our lifetime!
That was some group of nominees with some very impressive performances. Well deserved win by Geraldine Page. She was brilliant in that movie. Nominated 7 times before she won the 8th time around. She should have won once or twice before this one.
I see that Miss Page was so convinced that she would not win that she took off her shoes and had to put them back on. John stood up and laughed as he saw what was happening.
Thank you for this film. Thank you, Geraldine Page. I am crying watching this, always. These are good tears, tears of emotion and longing for my own Bountiful...
This group of nominees are LEGENDS! 1. Anne Bancroft- 5 nominations, Triple Crown of Acting and played Mrs. Robinson, one of the most iconic female characters and one of the most versatile actresses of all time. 2. Meryl Streep - 21 nominations, nothing more to say! One of the most revered and greatest actresses of all time. 3. Whoopi- 2 nominations and EGOT! 4. Jessica Lange- 6 nominations and Triple Crown of Acting. 5. Geraldine Page- 8 nominations and almost a Triple Crown achiever. Considered one of the greats.
Took my Mom to see this as a play in Chicago. I criiiied. It’s a beautiful work by Horton Foote. You can see, before she ascends the stairs, my former acting teacher, the late William Hickey, giving her a congratulatory kiss.
Page was absolutely brilliant in this role. She made the character so believable and her performance is one of my all time favorites. As others have noted, members of the Academy certainly got this one right, in a field of other strong performances.
If you never saw Geraldine Page in Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory (on You Tube) you should- it's as moving as anything you'll ever see with one of the greatest performances on ever on film.

I love how the other 4, especially Meryl and Whoopi were so happy for her. And what a category, with 3 prior winners, then Miss Page and Whoopi who would get her Oscar a few years later.
Calm down, the Oscars have always been about who could campaign the best. If they weren't, Geraldine Page would have won earlier and the academy wouldn't have felt obligated to give her an Oscar in 86 and Whoopi Goldberg would have won in this category.

Incredible movie and incredible performance by yes, the greatest actress in the English language. So sad she died that year. One of the greatest actresses of our time. Her Oscar win was long overdue.
