DON'T BUY A BLACK STAINLESS STEEL FRIDGE !!!

  • Buying the wrong fridge can be a major headache. When you pay huge bucks thinking you are getting a half descent appliance only to have the paint fall off is a huge disappointment. Never buy what a sale persons recommends. Chances are they are trying to get rid of a problem that the store is stuck with so move on to something else.

    Wish I had seen this before we bought. We had the same problem with the black stainless. It chipped as I was taking the protective plastic off on the first day. I was afraid it would chip all over so we exchanged it for regular stainless. I was thankful it happened on the first day instead of down the road, because we were able to exchange the entire set. Just got the replacement appliances today.

    • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  6 лет назад +4

      My husband felt that is what happened to us too, with the plastic and we didn't notice it at first since it probably was so small of an area. I thought maybe it was because I wiped the handles down and the dish cloth touched that area at the same time. Whatever caused it, the paint turned into powder in my hand when I tried to show a piece of paint that had fallen off the frig to the repairman. That was a very smart move to get them to replace it right away cause down the road the road gets rocky and it's harder to plead your case even when it's under warranty. I cringe at the thought of all these frigs being in peoples homes with young children. There is even a video on youtube that shows what a fork will do to a black stainless steel if I child goes up to it with a fork. The paint can easily be scratched off.
      This frig is a big NO NO !!!! Thanks for your comment as these frigs cost a lot of money and the consumer deserves a better product for the money.

      That's an interested concept. Thanks for sharing. Best bet if you are looking for a black coated frig is to not have children or pets or someone with a wheelchair or walker as anything hitting against it could take off the painted surface. Black shows scratches well and stainless steel shows scratches less. This is my view but obviously is not everyones view as I've gotten 54 thumbs down so there are plenty of people that like their black painted frig. Samsung actually applies their coating with 2 layers with a coating protection, basically same process of painting a car, So a scratch would be less appealing then a plastic coating. If your lighting isn't hitting your fridge like sunlight on a car it would be even harder to notice a scratch. Samsung is the way to go for finished appliances

    Nope!!! You are not alone. So far after 2 years, (same exact black stainless Kenmore Elite) I have a small scratch next to the handle where a fingernail, I assume hit. About mid way on the door ice bin the paint is coming off where my kiddos hit it to open the door. Thankfully I only replaced the frig and will pick something else for the rest.

    • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  5 лет назад

      I think the reason the paint started falling off where it did was I had a habitat of cleaning off the frig door handles daily as we are constantly in and out of the frig. Just the fact of the dish cloth coming in contact with the paint next to the handle was enough to make the paint fall off since it's not baked on, is my best guess that caused the peeling of paint in that area. I suspect the new cars have the same issue as they have to be washed a special way, so I hear. That is a red flag for me as I'm wondering what is going on with the paint job on new cars ?

      It was a long production of trying to get it across that it was faulty paint that could not stay put on the frig. Can't remember exactly how many months we had the frig but by being black it didn't show figure prints and the frig rarely had so much as a moist dish cloth on it. The handles, however, I cleaned off daily with a dish cloth. So it was possible that the damp cloth could have touched the painted surface. The frig was under warranty so we finally got a new frig. Sadly, though it will be quite expensive to take off the amount of days that will need to be done to win the fight. Hopefully, you will come out financially ahead. So it depends on how many days lost as to if you really win the fight. Good luck and thanks for watching. You will be told, most likely, it's never happened to anyone else. The guinea pigs come into play as to what is in the paint and how much paint falls onto our food freezer bags in the freezer section under the frig doors and how much paint is consumed.

Cleaning stainless steel refrigerators and other appliances is WAY EASY: All you need is clean, hot water and a clean, GOOD quality microfiber cloth. wipe WITH the grain and they will come right off. If they are greasy or have been on a while, you may need a dilute Dawn solution, then rinse. And when I say a good microfiber, I mean a really dense one, like Norwex, etc; not the crap ones you get 5 for $3 in the dollar store. They won't remove a thing. Norwex also has a glass polishing closs that makes stainless shine like you wouldn't believe.

When you hear these words you can pretty well bank on there is a coverup going on. I have to hand it to the repairman. He did his best to make me believe it was my fault the frig was peeling paint. We got our new frig and it is wonderful not to have paint peeling. The old time frigs had baked on paint that didn't fall off. I still have an old frig that is still working and it's almost 50 years old. An old Frigadire that you scrap off the ice in the freezer. Freezers that are like that are so much more reliable. They don't freeze and thaw the food and keep a consistent freezing temperature. In far to many ways technology has failed us. We have fluoride in the water and a frig does not have a filter that will take that out because fluoride has nano particles so small it goes right through the filter. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks for your comment.

      Very happy to hear you found a baked on version of black stainless steel. I am wondering if some new cars have the same issue as they have to be treated very carefully when they are washed, so I hear. Makes me wonder if the paint is just sprayed on some cars too. It would be much easier and cheaper than the baked on version. I would still watch young children around the frig just to be on the save side as scratches will stick out like a sore thumb on black stainless steel and other videos on youtube address this issue about black stainless steel. I don't think it's very child friendly. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

      They told me you can't use soapy water to wipe off the handles of the frig or the black stainless steel. You have to use special wax. We live in a weird world and it's only getting worse. • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  6 лет назад +3

      Whatever it is in life that we must deal with, there will always be the saying "it only happens to one in a million" or "it has never happened with anyone else". We have to overcome that remark as best we can as it's a way of putting it off on us the consumer. Somehow it's our fault that the appliance broke down, or the paint peeled off etc. Basically, in this world we must fight for the truth when we know it's the truth in order to have a frig replaced etc. We have to use our God given instincts to get it across one way or the other that the "one in a million" or "it's never happened to anyone before" isn't going to fly in our book. Then you hold your ground and if you have a job, plan on losing hours of work while you battle on the phone and take time off, however many times it takes, to resolve the nightmare. Luckily, we are old and loss of job hours are not an issue like it is with people losing a lot of money in order to fight the fight. Get on your armor of truth, you will need it as it will be a long fight. They know this frig needs to be off the market. It's to bad the black paint isn't baked on, like it should be, or I would still have that frig. Good luck.

    • @bevyh1

      Most likely the reason they came up with the black stainless steel was to cover up the fingerprints on stainless steel, but a quick spray on paint is not the answer to the problem. Dianese Howard - Have I got some good news for you! I found a product that literally blows any other stainless steel cleaner out of the water. I found this product at our local "Menards". The name on the aerosol can says "magic". stainless steel cleaner & polish. It's in a red and silver can. The can says it has "stay clean" technology. Whatever that is it does help tremendously with keeping it fingerprint free. I spray it on (and you don't need a lot), wipe, rub it off with a paper towel and then come back over it to polish with another paper towel. It's amazing!! There is nothing else like it for stainless steel. It's distributed by CC Holdings, Inc. There is a toll free number on the back of the can : 1-800-328-9248

    Jesus, lady - you don't use hot and hotter soapy water on stainless steel, and you certainly don't "scrub harder" as you will scratch the stainless steel finish. Ask your man how he cleans his stainless steel BBQ - I guarantee he won't say hot soapy water. All you need is regular old white vinegar and the cheapest of olive oils or mineral oil for polish and a clean soft rag or paper towels. If you have food or other gunk caked on, you either are using your fridge wrong, or you ought to clean more regularly, like right when something hits it... Read the manual that came with your fridge, it has cleaning instructions, or just search Google/RUclips.
