I watched that podcast. I recognized that they didn’t mention the range standard difference immediately and I was shocked. It’s okay for normal audience to misunderstand such subtle but important technical details, but for a RUclipsr who EARNS A LIVING with giving out information, it’s a serious mistake.

Lol, that dismissal tone is so real. Not only from the WaveForm video, but also in almost every Chinese car review done in English. They'll always zoom in to even the tiniest bit of resemblance in order to bring up the copycat accusation. This when I noticed how some other pretty noticeable design similarities in other countries' cars, they were never brought up. Like how the new Toyota front facia resembles the Ferraris' and how similar the Genesis is to the Bentleys.

Depends on the people reviewing. Car sauce isn't dismissive but they're in Australia and Chinese cars are big there. Most notably is the fully charged though. Mostly because they have a correspondant in Shanghai so they're well aware of the fact that the market isn't a joke at all

I was wondering what MKBHD would think of it but I wasn't expecting that idiotic take on it. It's not a tycan copy. Westerners always do this. They find something that resembles a Chinese product and say it's just a copy. They do it purely to degrade and dismiss Chinese achievements.

And since when does a tech reviewer need to be an engineer or designer? You'll barely see anyone in the industry from those backgrounds. Software Engineer from Germany: You Chinese are excellent people and build good cars. Sooner or later the others will understand that too. Let's trade together and may the better products win. That's how competition works. That's the only way we can drive prosperity on this planet. Please note one thing, though. One problem that clouds the view of China from the West is companies like "Temu", which flood the market with very cheap products. This unfortunately affects the view of Chinese products, which is regrettable because you build good cars. I sincerely wish you every success with your vehicles. Best wishes from Germany.

I hope I don’t come off rude saying this but isn’t your comment baseless? Apple Car has been rumored for a decade now and there’ve been countless times people have said it will be delayed until X year. I’m doubtful MKBHD would try to smear Xiaomi because he has allegiance to some car we don’t even know exists. Don’t get me wrong, I watched that episode of the WFRM podcast and found his points really dismissive. And I agree with every point Telescope made in this video. But doesn’t making a baseless assumption about MKBHD make you no better than him making assumptions about the SU7?
I invite your criticism if you think I’m wrong.

@@pokehunter7078 Thanks for clarifying, I appreciate it. That being said, if you’re implying he has an agenda against Chinese automakers because he’s American and likes American cars, I feel like that’s as much of a stretch as your last argument.
I do think he was far too dismissive of the SU7, like many people are of Chinese products in general, but there’s nothing to indicate he did that with malice rather than just plain negligence. He’s spoken highly of many Chinese phones in the past from Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, RealMe, etc., and he doesn’t even drive a Tesla anymore (he sold his Plaid for a Porsche 911 recently). It’s arguably more reasonable to believe he didn’t do his research properly or that he was far too skeptical and biased than to say he’s on some smearing campaign.
In no way am I trying to defend his take on the SU7, but I feel like you assuming the worst out of him is the same as him assuming the worst out of Xiaomi. Neither argument is very fair.
Then again, neither of us know him very well so, in that regard, I suppose we’re both just speculators who will never know the truth. :P

You can take solace in the fact that they also act the same way towards disruptive technologies in general. For instance legacy ICE car brands do not like EV adoption and will do anything to stop it or slow it down regardless of whether or not it is being made in China.

That's very dangerous, but I know Elon Musk is aware how quickly the quality of chinese products are developing and the speed of technological development. I think the Xiaomi car will be a big success in establishing this amazing company in the car industry, even if the product itself does not sell much in Europe or USA they will have gotten a good start and will use their software and technical expertise to ensure improvements in new products. Apple is going to loose out in a big way for not making the leap, as Xiaomi now has a unique selling point for their ecosystem.

It's a good thing to be skeptical, cars are a big monetary investment. European cars have a history of motorsport engineering behind them. The SU7 has yet to set an official lap time on some circuit (they talked about testing it on Beijing circuit, but there's still no official lap time). When that happens, I think people will come around to the idea that maybe Chinese cars are not to be taken lightly, just like how it happened with the Nio EP9.

The wave form podcast always does this. They look down on everything that ain't American, the classic American attitude. The biggest example is the pixel, nobody gives a fuck and it's shit, still they promote it like crazy.😂😂😂 Stopped watching it a long time ago, a bit too one sided for me especially the cohosts.

Your cltc to epa conversion is also not accurate. I have calculated the range of many Chinese cars that are sold in Europe too and converted to epa. The difference between epa and cltc is only 21%, not 35%, like you say. Also epa overtimate their ranges, teslas always get 20% less range in the usa. it is stupid for you to convert when all of these standards are crooked

    • @bullshitbingo2259
      @bullshitbingo2259 4 месяца назад +1

Nah, that is not correct either.
CLTC to WLTP is 18-20% and WLTP to EPA is another 8-10%, especially after they changed the test cycle at the beginning of this year.
CLTC to EPA is pretty much a 27% difference. This channel normally takes a 29% difference from CLTC to EPA. Seems pretty fair and accurate to me. Better to take conservative numbers, especially because the difference may vary between models.
Not sure where you get the 35% difference from
EPA is the most realistic testing cycle in terms of every day usage by the way.
The reason why Tesla fails to get even close to these numbers is because they use the most optimistic calculations to get the EPA numbers - for advertisment reasons.
Other manufacturers are way more conservative, like BMW or Mercedes-Benz or even Hyundai which come very close or even beat the EPA numbers regularly

@@bullshitbingo2259 the zeekr x I’m china has around 520km cltc range and it has 445km range wltp in Europe and they are the exact same car/battery. That’s 15% difference. Wltp to epa probably 10% só total would be 25% difference for cltc to epa, but epa overtimate their numbers as teslas only get 20% of their actual range. Y can also do the same math for the teslas coming from China or Europe. Nio et7 did a range test and achieved 1050km real world range out of 1100 cltc estimated. Saying that cltc to epa is 35% is a funny joke

@@tonypaca3015 RWD version has 560km CLTC, AWD version has 512km CLTC.
The RWD version has 445km WLTP in Europe, so around 20% reduction of the 560km CLTC. If you would take 9-10% off from the 445km WLTP you end up with an a bit over 400km EPA range estimate. 560km vs. 403km = 28% difference.
As far as I can see this channel uses around 29% difference from CLTC to EPA. And that is a pretty good estimate in my eyes. Just check out the Zeekr 007 numbers.
RWD has 870km CLTC and this channel estimated 660km WLTP and 385miles (619km) EPA.That seems quite accurate and nothing to complain about.

@@bullshitbingo2259 so if the fastest version of the zeekr x has range of 512km CLTC and it has 445km wltp what does it tells you? thats 13% difference from cltc to wltp. this channel converts cltc to epa at 35% range difference. cltc to wltp is no more than 15% difference. The nio et7 with 150kwh battery estimate range is 1000km cltc but it got a real world range of 1050km cltc during a live streaming. what does it tells you?

I don't think MKBHD meant to doubt Xiaomi's ability to make a car I just think many tech and car reviewers don't know how easy it is to make an EV in China now. Huawei now has like 3 different car brands... itʼs just not a big deal to make an EV in China and it would be easy to understand this if you spent a little more time reading about the global EV industry. The real problem is that most car and tech reviewers simply don't read so they just don't know how to make informed opinions beyond their surface level impressions of a product. That said I thought you were atleast going to take issue with the idea that Xiaomi's car looks like a Porsche. Claiming a car is copying just because it's from China is starting to feel like the "R" word at this point. China is in the lead both in the tech that goes into cars and their design. And I think any honest person would say that most car companies copy ideas off each other. At this point it's hard to tell what was who's idea because there's just so much copying even at the luxury level. The average person can't tell these cars apart now.
