I was in Shenzhen last summer and saw my first BYD Seal in person. I acted like a little boy in a candy shop, it's even better looking IRL. I don't think many westerners have any idea just how far ahead China is in EVs and the remarkable variety available. And I agree, it's so aggravating to see people who have never been to China nor know anything about their EV makers making blatantly false comments about them.
My prediction is that this is just the beginning and China is starting to pull away from the rest of the world. Egger, the BYD chief designer, mentioned that BYD can go from concept to production in 2 years vs. 5 years for western companies. The gap is going to continue to grow and in 10 years, western auto companies will either be effectively dead or will have completely reinvented themselves.

There are several different cars on the market with marginally or barely any difference of coefficient of drag, and they all look very different visually. Alot of people compare this to Apple Car's scenario, and rightfully so.
There are multiple reasons why Xiaomi was able to make a car, in a shorter time, lower R&D cost than Apple did (and ultimately failed/given up).
Making EV's is in simple terms, like a Lego car. You pick what batteries you want, what autopilot system you'd like (Horizon Robotics? or Huawei? or others?), you pick what electric motors you want, or even licence existing platforms (if you didn't want to make one yourself). and Wallah, you've got an EV, with your design and your badge.
Xiaomi being in China was able to hand pick these items like walking into a supermarket. Any battery size, and electric motors, and materials and software packages.
Apple on the other hand couldn't. There was no supply chain, there were no options. The EV suppliers for the better part of last 10 years, and even today, is miniscule. Parts are on shortage, technology is old, then add on there US sanctions and requirements for Federal Tax Credit (including Union bullsh1t, and "Made in USA" requirements), then you've got a super restrictive R&D environment, and ultimately, Apple gave up on it.
Elon said himself, the Cybertruck delays was heavily due to lack of suppliers and technology available to them. Supplier's didn't want to invest in R&D to make suitable offerings for the Cybertruck. So Tesla has to navigate this themselves, and takes hell of a lot longer than off the shelf industry supply chain.
This is the perfect example of "How protectionist taxes, tariffs and trade barriers, will end up being the demise of your industry"
The more you try and protect an industry from natural selection, the more you pave the way for it to fall.

And what is the one country whose CMVSS safety standards essentially mirror the US standards? Canada of course. The upshot to this is that only cars designed to sell in the US market will end up selling in Canada. No car company is going to all the expense of making their car meet these regulation just to sell in Canada alone. Mexico is a whole different story, since they use NCAP standards so a car designed to sell in China or Europe can be modified to meet Mexican standards fairly easily. But now that the US have quadrupled its tariffs on Chinese cars all the way to 100%, Xiaomi or any other Chinese EV maker will be steering clear of the US market, and by extension, the Canadian market as well.

I also now get why Xiaomi started with a sedan instead of crossover SUV with more demand, they actually don't want too much demand for now as they learn the early manufacturing/design issues. At this rate, Xiaomi should make their own EV batteries and home energy storage batteries/power stations.
Xiaomi operating system also interesting if you have a lot of their products which beats the ecosystem of Apple and Google. For example, if you buy a new Xiaomi TV, smartphone, or laptop and after logging you account-you could check the status and control of all Xiaomi products you own instantly without setup or configuration. For example, why not display your home security home camera in the car while you drive in a Xiaomi car without setup.

Essentially the sister car to the Volvo Ex30, but actually more luxurious and have some really innovative new features too, such as fold up rear seats, the sliding center screen, and a folding rear cargo cover. Really nice interior too. If they were both available I think I'd take the X over the EX30.

I DEFINITELY advise looking at all the reviews and issues that immediately started coming out. NO ONE creates a whole new FIRST vehicle out the gate that massively undercuts the competitors process and truly be quality. There's been all kinds of quality issues, ESPECIALLY around safety.
