@@1024. Thanks for explaining. SU7 won't be a problem for me then, as I have no desire for "极限运动和测试"! Part of the problem may be that Xiaomi emphasised that SU7 is intended to be a "driver's car", and may have inadvertently encouraged unrealistic driving behaviour! Thanks again.
One thing I learned is that if the car is not marketed as a track car, and you don’t know what it takes to drive fast other then pressing the gas pedal, then don’t take it to the track, period. Even for performance oriented cars, I would recommend having someone who knows their stuff examining the entire brake system before you go. Take the new M4 for example, many people don’t know that there is a cover in the front wheel arch that you should remove to open the channel which leads to an intake at the front bumper to cool the brake rotors. And because of the fact that the new M4 is brake by wire, the system automatically adjusts the pressure on the callipers by computer, hence it is really hard for amateur drivers to realize that the brakes are over heating until total failure. This is not a problem just for Xiaomi, it is just a problem that is becoming increasingly common due to EVs in general introducing power figure that was obviously reserved for selected few in the not so distant past, but at a much more accessible price. And therefore, you get more drivers who have no respect for speed and power, handling the kind of power that they are not supposed to possess.
I was talking about how insane it is that the Xiaomi SU7 ultra is gunna costs as little as it does for a legit 1500hp. And even if it has ceramic brakes…that just means the brakes will resist fade, but you still need to know what you are doing.
Brembo is OEM parts supplier. they make brake based on OEMs specification. The brake pads are what people were complaining about specifically. The calipers are Brembos not the pads.
The SU7 ultra broke the Nurburgering record not the max. The ultra has carbon ceramic brakes and is designed for the track whereas the su7 max is marketed as a sporty family sedan. Also Xiaomi has offered customers a free brake upgrade for the su7 max which is worth 550 usd. The 4 piston brembo brakes are more than sufficient for normal use because the regenerative braking on an EV does close to 50% of the braking. The Chinese youtubers who crashed them (only 2 have crashed due to braking failures out of 120000 sold this year) both said that the brakes were sufficient for road use and the one said that the car warned him minutes before the failure but he kept pushing it in order to break his record around the track which was stupid. The Tesla model S plaid also had brake failures around the track and that car has double the power with small brakes. If you track any normal car and push it the brake pads will wear out and the brake fluid will boil, this is common sense. People are just uninformed about the situation.
So what I said then? lol. Yes the Ultra set the NBR record, but I didn't say the MAX did. The Ultra was still under wraps when this was recorded. I said Xiaomi had several adverts around with it on track. Ofc there are disclaimers, ofc no one reads them. ofc road brakes are not designed for high track work. The problem supposedly is not the callipers but the pads themselves. In the pin comment you will see I wrote about the upgrade package that was introduced around or just after i finished shooting this. Xiaomi originally offered a paid upgrade for dealership install, which consists of brake fluid and pad upgrades. They may very well be offering it as free now. I haven't checked since I recorded this.
@ChinaDriven sorry I'm not talking about what you said in the video, I'm just pointing out misconceptions I've seen surrounding the braking system. Your video was thorough and I enjoyed it 😅
@ChinaDriven I did read your comment before. Sorry this wasn't a criticism of the video and yes the marketing is a little bit misleading so I totally agree with that. I'm just pointing out some things I've read online 😂😅
No Problem. I tried to address the brakes subject as succinctly as possible in the video. But even with me saying it was about the brake pads, the amount of comments about Brembo callipers shows people either didn't pay attention or don't understand brake components. I've see Chinese social media talk about how the xiaomi they are heavily chamfered, and they are, more so then any other OEM pad i've seen. This ofc will reduce brake squeal, but it also reduces pad contact surface area. But I don't think this is really part of the "problem." The fact the pads are disintegrating also points to the pads composition, which I suspect are soft for road use, and fail under sustained high heat, like track work. I just wanted to point out both sides. Road brakes generally aren't designed for track use but on the other hand, If you constantly have ads showing your car on track don't be surprised when people take it to the track then moan about shortcomings of track performance. Xiaomi basically admitted the lack of braking performance for track but offering the upgrade, specifically aimed at the pads and replacing brake fluid for high temp brake fluid. As I said in the video, at the end of the day, buy the Xiaomi SU7 MAX, its seriously cheap for the performance and pay another $3-4K for a full big brake kit, pads, fluid and stainless steel lines and its still a performance bargain! But I suspect, better pads, stainless steel lines and high temp brake fluid will be more than enough for most people.
@ChinaDriven yes I agree 100%. I'm hoping the car eventually comes to South Africa so I can buy it 😂. I know the car is manufactured by BAIC and of the BAIC cars I've felt have been decent quality so I expect the same from the SU7. Obviously I am speaking from what I've seen, getting behind the wheel will allow me to come up with my own opinions.
Yes English UI would be nice, but obviously this is not a priority for them right now. And even those cars/OEMs with english UIs didn't launch with them. So it may come further down the line, at least this car, unlike the majority, comes with Apple carplay and android auto which could be used while you wait.

I'm not so up to speed on the situations of imports into India, but I think i read you have quite high import tariffs. The best hope is Xiaomi decide to go localised production. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Surely that's something they would now be onto with Brembo, Brembo are responsible for their brake systems as they would be on any other manufacturers vehicle if they weren't doing the job expected from them. I'm certain this issue has possibly already been redressed at the time of this video.
chinese consumers are just freakazoids now when it comes to new tech in general, esp when it's from a top domestic brand. e.g. shooting rifles on huawei mate60pro's to test its kunlun glass's extreme durability, even driving cars over it to see if it breaks, driving byd u8 on waters. basically just too extreme testing on national brands bc maybe they are already fed up with the image in the past that chinese products have been breaking down easily, etc. and they want to prove otherwise. in this xiaomi su7 case, i think many users really abused the brembo brakes too much by testing the braking distance and averaging more than 20+ tests to confirm the 33ish m result on paper. ofc others found this absurd bc you never do this to a toyota or an iphone just to prove a point but that's about it.
The brake failures were due to the brake pads not the brembo supplied callipers. And the videos of the pads disintegrating were mainly on track usage. Many claiming they weren't lasting for more than a lap. Xiaomi is already offering brake pad and brake fluid upgrades to owners. So they've kind of admitted that the pads are not up to standard inline with the cars performance.
@@ChinaDriven Come on, the fact of the matter now is that there are people who have gone up to 270KM/H in Russia in an SU7, and there are people who still maintain a 33m braking distance in China after braking a dozen times in a row. And you are saying SU7's brakes are faulty because of a track accident, put away your prejudice
what prejudice? MULTIPLE videos of brake PADS disintegrating on track on Chinese social media. It's not prejudice to talk about it, and as I stated in the video, on road I had no problem with them. The fact that Xiaomi is now offering upgraded pads and fluid should be clue enough that the reports of those pad failures has some merit. And as I stated quite clearly, people shouldn't be expecting stock brakes to handle hard track work. I was EXTREMELY balanced and fair in my summary of the issue that has been reported...what more do you want from me?
@@ChinaDriven At the end of the day this car is a family car and LEI has said not to drive the SU7 at the track. And your logic is ridiculous, launching a track kit =admitted that the pads are not up to standard inline with the cars performance. However the fact is that Xiaomi's brakes have no problems on a daily basis I don't see the need for Xiaomi to launch these things because 3rd party manufacturers will do it. They could have made people buy SU7 ULTRA too, but they still listened to their users and did this. I don't want to discuss this anymore, it's time for me to sleep, I just think if you want to be a well known car blogger you should be careful with your words to avoid legal risks.

Hmm, can't be that bad a car. No less than Ford CEO Jim Farley has had one as his daily driver for a few months and he doesn't want to give it back to Ford, who bought it.
answered both in the video Edit: Seems the original comment changed a little. In the video I clearly stated that brakes for road going cars are made for on-road performance, and it’s unreasonable to assume they can keep up with on-track demands. And I stated anyone who tracks a car knows you need to at least upgrade the brake pads, brake fluid and even better the brake lines to stainless steel. However on the flip side. Xiaomi enjoyed a lot of viral ads and videos they put out of the SU7 Max on track. Of course there are small disclaimers, but we know in reality people don’t read such information. So it wasn’t surprising to see people take than to the track emulating what they had seen online only to have brake problems. That was obviously going to happen because people are dumb. Lol
the SU7 seems to have all the ingredients to be a fantastic car. power. range. ergonomics. design. torque. also double wishbone 2-chamber air suspension and multi-link rear suspension. so it *should* handle really well on...say... UK B-roads. but does it? there's so much more to a Porsche Taycan than just the acceleration and top speed. perhaps not 5 times as much. but the price of a pre-owned one that's practically new tells us where the market sees the real value, and that's MUCH closer to the SU7
They should have worked with Xpeng Motors, and others to begin improving everything they could improve and not do mistakes as they did, with some material damages... They proposed nice things, that Porsche and other brands should use, but were not recognized globally for what they did effectively...
The truth is that XPENG didn't have any good sales in China, they missed too many things.P7 didn't have a timely facelift and replacement, but instead launched many cheap EVs to pull down the brand image, and in the end, these cheapies didn't bring any sales......Back then they started to imitate MODELY and launched the G6 ...... and the G9 which was delayed delivery and beaten by LI AUTO ...... they missed so much that they are already on the verge of going down from the poker table ...... the best thing that could have happened to them is that they were bought by Xiaomi, the Because XPENG received a lot of investment from LEI JUN aka Xiaomi's CEO from the early days of their business ......
It's supposedly not the caliper. But was the brake pads themselves. Very soft for road use, couldn't handle sustained high heat. But thats kind of normal for many road brake pads. they now offer free upgrade for pads and brake fluid
The Icarus metaphor is misplaced. Yes, the mythical Icarus and the extant Xiaomi share a certain cockiness but Icarus died and despite inadequate forethought on Xiaomi's part (that affected very few people) Xiaomi's cars are as popular as ever. Icarus was cocky and foolhardy, viz. unjustifiably cocky, but Xiaomi's cockiness was more justifiable - there was real engineering there but it fell a bit short for SU7 owners taking their cars to a racing track. Evidently Xiaomi is accepting the responsibility to upgrade the brakes which doesn't mean that the SU7 MAX becomes a track car.

@@NiMareQ I wouldn’t be concerned about the brakes on road. But Xiaomi has offered a pad and brake fluid upgrade if owners want it. I’d daily this EV for sure. Rides well but it’s on the sportier side ride wise. But it’s not harsh. It doesn’t feel super cheap. But like I said some of the materials are plastic. But that’s the trade off for the driving dynamics you get for this price. Obviously it’s a new car from a new brand so I can’t speak to reliability or how it will hold up long term.
Yes, I wonder if we'll get the full fat version they showed off for the Nurburgring. Perhaps a range of them. Maybe a RWD with one of those V8S motors, one of those alone has 578hp & 635Nm...reckon that would be quite good fun!
Western countries will find new reason to ban this car now. Even if they put 100 percent tariff they are still cheap. 😂. Western countries capitalism and globalization is only until the west is profitable but now when they are losing money they started taxing .. 😂
Issues reported with "thin paint," build quality issues with the front fender panels which seems to pop off. And the biggest and latest is brake pads disintegrating (albeit from track use.) But as I explained in the video, although the performance of the pads only need to handle on-road performance demands, brake pads disintegrating in a single track lap still feels quite poor. And I think consumers were not impressed because how much advertisement showed the SU7 on track, and the amount the performance was talked about. This has prompted discussion on chinese social media talking about companies shoving so much power into these EVs, but neglecting the braking performance.
@@kevbrown1867 So brembo is a brake manufacturer and will design or sell calipers/brakes to OEMs. The actual issue with the brakes is not the caliper housing but the actually brake pads. They seem to be super soft to reduce brake squeal. But this means they don’t last long. Normally on road EV brake performance is a mixture of brake regeneration and physical braking using the pads. On track you can imagine people are turning off or turning down brake regen and the pads just don’t hold up to continuous high temp high pressure.
Your ideas are outdated about Chinese products. Domestically there has been a big push to increase quality of products in the last 8 years. So I’d say it’s really not generally true that Chinese domestically produced products are poor quality. And we can see that with the crash test safety scores in the Europe NCAP. 5 Stars, topping the list in most cases.
Very interesting car. Seems to have build quality issues similar to Tesla. Would be competitive with the M3P for sure, but with a battery better than the long range model... wow. Wish it was sold in the USA
They have "supplier quality issues similar to Tesla" (Who also used Brembo brakes.... and if you check, they are used by..... Ferrari, so you MIGHT think that a new manufacturer would be quite responsible in specifying "The company that supplies Ferrari" ? That being the case, Is the problem with the car manufacturer? I imagine they provide the weight of the vehicle, performance specs and Request that Brembo provide a suitable sytem from Hydraulics, to pads and discs?

Greate review! Sth. important I had to mention is: top tie auto parking system, and heat resistance glass of sunroof.
Tesla also had issues with Brembo Brakes
Keep going!
100% agree with you on everything. 😅
Perfect haha
Nice review. I like it and I would buy one, only in yellow mind you! Despite being in China I would also prefer an English UI.
Yes English UI would be nice, but obviously this is not a priority for them right now. And even those cars/OEMs with english UIs didn't launch with them. So it may come further down the line, at least this car, unlike the majority, comes with Apple carplay and android auto which could be used while you wait.
Wish to own one for daily drive ❤
Failproof brakes should never be an optional IMO.

Xiaomi can add an optional brake upgrade option to their lineup.
They could do. I think just a brake pad upgrade option would be enough.
@@ChinaDriven Xiaomi just offered a brake pad and brake oil upgrade for 4000 RMB.
Yes I saw that too
I respect this car so much despite it being unsafe.
Why ? Beacause it looks amazing !! It’s fast it has amazing tech and most importantly it’s cheap unlike the overpriced European cars. For that despite the flaws I respect it so much
Why is it "being unsafe"? Because you cannot drive it like on track and not crash? Isn't it illegal to drive it that way on public roads?
Amazing car. We want this in India but they will probably sell for twice the price negating their insanely good value for money proposition.
I'm not so up to speed on the situations of imports into India, but I think i read you have quite high import tariffs. The best hope is Xiaomi decide to go localised production. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
For some reason the underglow lighting is popular again with the young crowd. Just now with led's. So technically it is "a thing" again.
Oh for sure. otherwise Xiaomi wouldn’t have just made it “hoping” people would buy it.
How will you rate the soundproofing, likewise the range and compared to the Zeekr 007 handling and driving feedback.. 😊😊
The zeekr 001 is more comfortable. The Xiaomi Su7 is better driving dynamics. The Zeekr 001 is good but its heavy and feels heavy. For the soundproofing, its been too long since i've drivne the zeekr 001. I can't remember...
@@ChinaDriven hopefully you get to test the zeekr 007, byd leopard 5, lotus Eletre & Emeya
Surely that's something they would now be onto with Brembo, Brembo are responsible for their brake systems as they would be on any other manufacturers vehicle if they weren't doing the job expected from them. I'm certain this issue has possibly already been redressed at the time of this video.
If the car cost 5 times more the owners may be reluctant to take the car to the race track to test the brake to failure?
chinese consumers are just freakazoids now when it comes to new tech in general, esp when it's from a top domestic brand. e.g. shooting rifles on huawei mate60pro's to test its kunlun glass's extreme durability, even driving cars over it to see if it breaks, driving byd u8 on waters. basically just too extreme testing on national brands bc maybe they are already fed up with the image in the past that chinese products have been breaking down easily, etc. and they want to prove otherwise. in this xiaomi su7 case, i think many users really abused the brembo brakes too much by testing the braking distance and averaging more than 20+ tests to confirm the 33ish m result on paper. ofc others found this absurd bc you never do this to a toyota or an iphone just to prove a point but that's about it.
However the fact is that Xiaomi's brakes have no problems on a daily basis
I don't see the need for Xiaomi to launch these things because 3rd party manufacturers will do it. They could have made people buy SU7 ULTRA too, but they still listened to their users and did this.
I don't want to discuss this anymore, it's time for me to sleep, I just think if you want to be a well known car blogger you should be careful with your words to avoid legal risks.
Oh man, you live in Changsha? I am a su9 max owner in this city too.
I do! For a long time
There is not a single car on this planet which is perfect besides mine! Oh...wait, i don't have a car!
Your headline caught my attention so I kept on viewing it to see what the big problem was. In the end I was disappointed. You had me fooled!😂. That was reverse psychology and you had me turned into a true believer of SU 7. Sign me up if we are lucky enough to get them over here at home.
I mean the brake pad problem is a kind of big problem hahaha. But the point was it's kind of blown out of proportion.
Ok Ngl but the underglow is cool asf
I noticed many videos on this car are outside shots only. 😂😂😂
Hmm, can't be that bad a car. No less than Ford CEO Jim Farley has had one as his daily driver for a few months and he doesn't want to give it back to Ford, who bought it.
@@ramblerandy2397 it’s a very fun car to drive. I’d daily one.
Light under your car is illegal in the Netherlands so its a nice option but if you want to have that in the Netherlands you cant drive with it
Are the production car certified to be driven like maniac on the track? That is not a normal use case. Would the breaks fail driving on normal roads
answered both in the video
Edit: Seems the original comment changed a little.
Its dynamics are very good. Ofc a porsche is more competent, but carries a price tag for that.
In Europe when?
Don't have any information on European entry for the SU7. I've heard unconfirmed rumours that they may take the upcoming SUV first.
Never, the EU won’t allow us to have affordable quality cars.
A good deal for real!
Wondering if the car will come to Europe??😊- If so at what price??
it’s meant to come to Europe but European pricing hasn’t been announced
that ending remark hahahah
Like that? hahahahaha
They should have worked with Xpeng Motors, and others to begin improving everything they could improve and not do mistakes as they did, with some material damages... They proposed nice things, that Porsche and other brands should use, but were not recognized globally for what they did effectively...
XPENG is the one that needs to be saved. LMAO
Xiaomi needs to change the brake caliper. Big body but small pads.
This car makes Trump cry 😭

i hope it comes to the uk. the price is a bargain. but I'm guessing with taxes and added costs the price will increase but still a bargain
yes right now Chinese EVs abroad are priced way higher than their Chinese market prices.
So is the car safe? Is the car good for daily drive? Is it worth it? (And by that I don't mean - it's cheap so it can also suck.)

So what's the criticism ?
Issues reported with "thin paint," build quality issues with the front fender panels which seems to pop off.
And the biggest and latest is brake pads disintegrating (albeit from track use.) But as I explained in the video, although the performance of the pads only need to handle on-road performance demands, brake pads disintegrating in a single track lap still feels quite poor. And I think consumers were not impressed because how much advertisement showed the SU7 on track, and the amount the performance was talked about.
This has prompted discussion on chinese social media talking about companies shoving so much power into these EVs, but neglecting the braking performance.
@@ChinaDriven aren’t these the same brakes on European luxury and super cars ?
@@kevbrown1867 So brembo is a brake manufacturer and will design or sell calipers/brakes to OEMs. The actual issue with the brakes is not the caliper housing but the actually brake pads. They seem to be super soft to reduce brake squeal. But this means they don’t last long.
Normally on road EV brake performance is a mixture of brake regeneration and physical braking using the pads. On track you can imagine people are turning off or turning down brake regen and the pads just don’t hold up to continuous high temp high pressure.
@@ChinaDriven 非常中肯的观点!
@@ChinaDriven So basically any family sedan that is taken to the track and ran like a F1 car would probably blow out their brakes as well

With Chinese products, YOU do the R&D and QC. When there's enough complaints and feedback, they make changes.
