The US is getting their butts absolutely kicked in terms of availability and variety of smaller, less expensive EVs. As someone who NEEDs a V8 pickup truck to tow 7000+ lb loads pretty regularly, I'd absolutely buy a $13,000 small EV that looks like a mini offroader. I'd drive that 60-70% of the time and it would meet every need other than towing. I have no interest in a bloated, 5,000 lb $40,000+ electric sedan that takes forever to charge. I want 4 small seats and a hatchback to put 3-4 bags of groceries. Preferable 4 doors, short wheelbase.
There's a reason why these Chinese cars aren't sold in America. Research and development into safety plays a big part in the price of the car. That and included safety features. That's an expense Chinese car manufacturers don't incur. If you look at Chinese cars with similar safety features as their Western counterparts, the price isn't that far off of what you'd find here.
@@chechnya it's also because American cities are inherently more dangerous to smaller vehicle, even more so cyclist, pedestrian, biker, etc. The American urban design breeds bigger, inefficient, and expensive vehicle. It doesn't have to be like that for everyone's sanity.
The name of the vehicle is 宝君悦也 Bǎojūn Yuèyě, where 悦 means 'happy' and I think 也 is a classical particle that functions like a period. Yuèyě also seems to be a play on the homonym 越野 'cross-country', since they offer off-road trim. Nifty branding.
Excellent video review, and an excellent automotive value! That electronic "traffic message" would be illegal in California, I think, for reasons of causing Road Rage. :-) Otherwise, it's a cute lovable car.
If Baojun can manage to sell the Yep in the EU with a decent mileage (200 km WLTP minimum), 4 or 5-star Euro NCAP rating, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, below €19,990 before incentives (twice the price in China, this seems feasible IMHO) then they have a winner. Even a killer. It would sell like hotcakes there!

Great review, now subscribed . My First time on the channel. The designers of this car (including suzuki) deserve a medal. Theres not one thing I would change. I wash my car nearly every week so the rear screen doesn't need a wiper. I prefer the weight reduction which then goes back into the range. I look forward to more videos from the channel

I think its very nice and considering the cost its amazing what they have achieved. I prefer smaller cars, they are much easier to park and more fun to drive. I hope GM offers to other countries.

Often I am reminded of manufacturers like Fiat and Tatra, who in the past also produced charming and relatively inexpensive small cars, which then performed disastrously in crash tests (compared to competitors in their own vehicle class). I am curious about the results for this and similar vehicles from China.
I think this is made for commuting in crowded cities You don't think much about crashes in this case, you run at 40 km/h or less most of time. Remember that fiat is an Italian company, and their small cars made sense in the old european cities and their narrow roads.
