    It's nice to see manufacturers putting some emphasis on affordable street bikes with sane horsepower and strong powerbands for street riding. Eighty HP in a light 400 lb bike is wickedly fast on public roads and this machine will handle nicely in the twisties. Definitely a big thumbs up in the looks dept.

      I know!!! I've owned 4 Triumphs, all 955/1050's. I'm 55 and I just don't feel the need to prove or to experience how fast I can go, but rather how well I go fast. So I sold my 1050 Speedy and bought a 2006 Multistrada S with Ohlins. To which I might add one of these for the daily rider and keep the Multi for long runs. Make mine white.

      I've owned over 20 bikes of many brands including 5 Triumphs (2009 Scrambler, 2010 Speed Triple, 2012 Street Triple, 2015 Scrambler and 2019 Scrambler 1200XE and I'd say they are generally as reliable as the Japanese bikes (I had a sensor issue on the 2019, a small gasket leak on my 2009 Scrambler, but aside from that it's been really trouble free. Actually put 70000km on my 2015 Scrambler and aside from oil and tires, that was about it. The worst reliability brands I've experienced, by far, are Ducati and KTM, though to be fair they were a 2013 and 2008 so I'd like to think they've improved since, but my friend had a Duke 390 and he had a problem with the fan sensor leading to engine overheating....

    I love the backend, love the dash/connectivity and the engine power is nicely positioned. I like a single, round headlight and decent tyres too. Not so keen on the tank at the moment but that may change. Having owned an XSR 700 and CB650R I think Triumph are right on the money here. They are going to poach a lot of customers which is great news for anyone looking in this segment! Great report and interview as always. Looking forward to the full ride review. 👍

    My 2018 T120 is coming up to 80K miles and will be at 100K miles by next season... Looking for the next high mileage replacement. Damn, I can see putting miles on this little bike, commuting to work going away and doing some sport touring and yielding allot of miles and smiles per gallon. Bravo Triumph, I swear I wasn't going to buy another brand new Triumph but I might just...

      @@motobob The Value is absolutely astonishing. Brand new this bike is right in my budget for the next "mule" so to speak. My Bonneville has been an exceptional surprise and is my favorite motorcycle to date. Spec sheet looks to be quicker than my current T120 and about $5K less dollars new.... This bike will do everything I need it to do, daily commuting, slow city riding and rural back road riding. I see they fit it with premium Road 5 tires (all I run on my T120) which is the silent nod from Triumph, clearly they are planning the owners of these Tridents to chase big miles out of the crate. So impressed with Triumph these past few years... Made a convert out of me! Last thing I need to see is a top rack and cruise control... Have those things and I'll put a deposit down now.

    Glad to see Triumph making such a great intermediate/beginnerish bike. I think they absolutely killed it with this bike. As someone who had a 16 speed triple r as a second bike and later "upgraded" to an S1000rr I will always have an appreciation for triumph as a brand and it made me develop a soft spot for them. I am very interested in the idea of this one ...A triple do it all at a lower CC .. High gas milage .. There is another market that is quietly moving along here that may have an interest ...The 70 and 80 year old lifers who need a lighter bike to hold up with older leg strength .:) .This has the look of a modern classic of the 2020's ..I agree with Jonny Goodliff this is a great compeditor for the XSR700 at a better price ..

    You can't really bang on about heritage for a company that really only started making decent products in the late 80s early 90s. Combine this with a manufacturing process located in Asia and your historic threads become translucent. Kawasaki however have been building successful quality motorcycles since 1966. The arrival of the W1 marked the death of Triumph in its original genuine format, an efficient quality machine that outperformed, didn't cost the earth or breakdown. The Kawasaki brand remains unchanged from that day which is a true example of providence and history. Good video keep up the work.

    What's with the clutch actuator exiting at the bottom of the clutch bulge? If that seal lets go it'll dump oil. There's a reason everyone else puts it at the top.

  • @marktangney89

    Why wasn't Husqvarna's Vitpilen 701 considered in the comparison? The Trident has 5 more horsepower, less torque and weights 22kg more. Also, how many of the bikes you mentioned here have a hydraulic clutch? The trident seems nice though, and I agree it looks great. By the way, in Aus I paid $10,500 AUD new including on road costs from a dealership for my 701, that's about 5,700 GBP.

    Was the exhaust at 8:40 dirty or was it rusty/discoloured? Seems to be made of really cheap stuff, would definitely be the first thing to go - kinda lets the build quality down. Also they should include the BMW F900R to its competitors - yeah its a bit more expensive, but it is in the same category.

    When you think about Triumph was at one point two steps away from disappearing, it really makes me feel super good about them to see the kind of bikes they are putting out. And makes me feel good about loving motorcycles to see a company be so passionate about creating high quality bikes that connect with why everyone rides. I think about people who find out in high school they are dyslexic. They get to a point where everything is a struggle, but through good people and direction, they turn everything around and you hear about them flourishing later on.
    I wouldn't call it a MT 07 killer. Only maybe in the context of a magazine's bike comparison. At a probable $9000 price, the MT07 will still be a popular ride. Needs a yellow or a Goodwood green version.

    I think I'd wait for a Trident RS for an additional $1k+
    Improve brakes, suspension, and probably tuned more like the 675r. Would probably still undercut the CB650r.

    • @saddle8bag
      @saddle8bag 3 года назад

      Bad idea. If you want a bike designed for a racetrack, just get the 675. If you want a bike designed for public roads, the less touchy brakes, more meaty midrange, and softer suspension set up, this will serve one much better.

    • @dsgr6164
      @dsgr6164 3 года назад +1

      @@saddle8bag I daily a ST675r, brakes are perfect, linear in feel with a strong bite midway through the lever, engine is linear in power throughout (would be even more beginner friendly with a rain riding mode), you can adjust the suspension to be quite soft or very rigid, front-&-back. You might be confusing my mentioning of 675r with the Daytona or the 765, because the ST675r is track-capable but more road oriented.
