Cool bike but I think I'll stick with my z650 for now
What if you didn't already have that Z650?
@@genericallyaccepted I like the Trident's look better and it's Showa upside down forks are definitely better than the z650 setup -- interestingly the brakes look to be identical to those on the z650 and reviewers of both the z650 and Trident seem to have very positive comments about both brakes despite the 'standard' setup. What I really like about the z650 is the strong torque at around 3000-6000 rpms where you spend most of your time riding on local roads and Japanese reliability-- curious about how the Trident will feel in the mid-range on the street. I was torn between the z650 and mt07 when buying the z650, given the looks of the Trident and the triple engine, I would probably be pulled towards the Trident. The 650cc class of bikes is becoming a saturated market, which is a great thing since it pushes each company to innovate instead of becoming stagnant.
yeah, you have the z650, keep it ! but this will outperform the z650 all day long, probably much better handling we will see, but the z650 is great, I've ridden it, enjoy !
I don't think you could pick a bad welterweight bike. Whether it's a Z, MT, SV, CB or Trident it all just depends on what you like for an engine.
@@njminer agreed personal taste. I’ve ridden all apart from the trident. I’d go SV. I love that engine, the lack of technology etc. Had a CBR650F before my current bike. The Honda engine is great but rather buzzy. I like the engine breaking of the twins.
This bike is going to be a big hit. I've been riding for over 40 years and it still to me looks a fun bike to own. Sounded great in the ride by shots which is a bonus in Euro 5 land 👍👍👍
Review confirms this is a great all round middle weight package, which is a relief as I ordered one two weeks ago and have had my fingers crossed ever since! It's all subjective of course but I think the styling is spot on, the LCD dash is the first one I've seen I actually like and I need a lightweight bike. Never owned a Triumph and never bought a new bike before. Can't wait to take delivery in March.
Triumph has hit it out of the park with this one
they should offer a full fairing option and perfection would been acheived
@@ragimundvonwallat8961 that was daytona 675 i believe?
Fabulous comprehensive review with tons of enthusiasm and detailed insights. Brilliant job!
Visordown videos are so much better now than a couple years ago - nice work and nice bike!
It's hard to find video reviews that are worth a f*ck. I don't even waste my time with anything that hasn't been published by a professional motorcycle organization.
I have been looking at the street triple 660
But after this review I've changed my mind.
Great review mate
Keep up the great work
The engine is aperently derived from the old 675 and not the newer 660 on the street triple s. For exemple this engine uses cylinder liners and a water jacket, like the old 675, instead of having the coolant passeges cast into the block, like the 660 street triple.
Informed post.
Your spot on mate with your info
is it good or not?
Proof being that they don't share the same internal dimensions despite sharing almost the same displacement (the Trident having a 3mm longer stroke and a smaller bore, to maximise low end torque).
Thx for the christmas pre-gift video. i ordered this motorcycle as the 1st bike and can't wait to try it out in march 2021.
was waiting for your review ,,, thanks for sharing :)
one more thing could u please also tell your favourite color among 4 ?
In the U.S. the Trident is priced well below the Honda CB650R!
Very good news. Triumph motorcycles are very good. They deserve to sell more.
Precisely! Ima get me a trident 🔱🏍💨
As it should be.
My dealership quoted me 10k for this bike. Does that sound right? 2k in tax, reg and misc fees?
@@dhhjsjzjzjjhsjsjh depends on local tax, tag, and title fees. How much is the doc fee? Are they charging you for prep?
Great review, as always; thorough and succinct. Own a 2019 Speed3 RS. I've also ridden many new Triumphs. The company is, in my opinion, hitting on all three cylinders; turning out really great products.
Good review 👍
Bike is classy and the review is classier. Nice review👍
Is it a 3 piece or 2 piece exhaust? Wondering if slip-on would fit🤔
Can't wait to get my hands on it! After 30 years of riding, I'm not exactly a beginner, but it seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. A good looking, cool bike that doesn't complicate things more than necessary - just hop on, and off you go! Good job Triumph!
Great video nice bike but not sure about the tank would have to see it in the flesh stay safe looking forward to next one 🇬🇧👍🏻
Top review as always. I am a Street Triple owner, and plan on trying one of these when they are available. I think this looks like a bike that would be a better every day machine that the Street Triple.
Great coverage, have been following all your videos lately and especially on the trident. Pre-booked one already. Currently ride a Bonnie T120 and have clocked 21000 kms in 15 months. Love touring on it and as much as brain said get Tiger, heart never loved it, but got smitten by this. Hate the looks and styling of Street Triple. But as everyone keeps calling this as good first bike and beginners bike, it makes me worried, is it not a good fun bike for experienced rider? I mean 81BHP for a new rider is anyways crazy irrespective of how one rationalises it. What are your thoughts on it being a weekend fun bike for experienced riders??? And this vs. Street Triple R?
Spectacular that Triumph has decided to make its presentation on the island of Tenerife, as many other brands have already done. Our landscapes and roads, a world reference for the world of motorcycles! Regards and thanks for your video! 👍🏻
Can’t wait until they hit the us in January definitely getting one
Agreed. I also plan on getting one in January as well!
My boyfriend and I already pre-ordered
Triumph knows how to make a decent triple!
I drive about 40 miles each way to work on the highway. How will this do in the 75-80mph highway drive? Good for an hour? Longer? I had a 2015 Scrambler and I always felt like I was pushing it hard at that speed for that distance.
Gorgeous looking bike (wish for a model with more power and same looks)
This bike is going to really sell. I hope Triumph have made sure it's reliable. Is it built in Thailand?
Excellent review. This bloke is very good.
Yes. It’s made in Thailand. Almost all models already are. And next year, ALL models (including the Speed Triple and the Tiger 1200) but the pricey TFC variants, will be.
Just got CB300R 2nd hand as my 1st bike and this one definitely my next bike! The thing looks stunning!
How is fuel consumption? Could I get 300km from a tank (depending how I ride it)
Awesome bike! Make fully faired sports touring version and I will trade in my k7 SV650SRA immediately :D
What's the ground clearance like? Couldn't find it in specsheet
Sounds like a cracking bike. I'm with you on the tank, don't like the plastic but apart from that it looks brilliant. If it's as good as you say it's gone straight to the top of the middleweight naked class. I don't recall you mentioning the 10k service intervals though. I'm going to be test riding one of these next year.
I agree about the trident logo on the side, looks a bit tacky on the classicly shaped tank. Absolutely great looking bike nonetheless though!
When I first saw pictures of this bike I thought it was uninspiring, but now I’ve seen this I’ve changed my mind completely. I agree about the tank though. I think Triumph are on a winner with this - it may be slightly more expensive than others in its class, but factor in its longer 10,000 mile service intervals and you could recoup that money over time.
Such a good looking bike! 👍
It sounds amazing
Bought a CB650R this summer and absolutely love it for its 'unbeatable' blend of value handling and looks, but im thinking I might be eating my words when it goes head to head with the Trident.
Different power delivery. The hondas gonna be better at higher rpms. The tridents gonna be a little more linear
@@morgan98801 Well said, nice analogy.
Looks pretty and high quality.
Just got the 40th Anniversary edition of the F 850 GS, and I am seriously considering adding this one to the collection.
You can't afford two bikes.
How many different motorcycle licenses do you brits have to get?
Would like to see a bit more of the other colors. Black one with white Triumph/Union Jack looks hot and tones down those knee rests.
That's my favourite too!👍
Good looking bike, it gets a great review and given the bike market and prices of today its a bargain.
I hope this will be a winner for Triumph, well done 👍
Liking the music overlay.
Was in the market for CB650R and I literally put everything on hold when I first saw Trident 660 came out about a month ago. I like CB650R so much but to be honest I do suddenly feel like it 'looks old' compared to Trident 660. Anyway, I'm still weighing my options at least until I am able to experience the Triumph myself. Meanwhile, Visor Down, please do an exclusive one to one comparison videos between CB650R and Trident 660. Keep up the good work guys. 👍👍
Try them both. A triple engine and an inline four cylinder have a different character. On a test ride, you will soon notice which engine you prefer.
From the looks I like both bikes.
As a former Tiger 800 owner expect maintenence costs which are quite above average for the Triumph. My Tiger was reliable, I am talking about regular maintenece.
@@wolfganggesche7945 Thank you for the heads up, definitely will go test ride one first before making my decision.
Same here
Fantastic review Toad, I looked at the Z900 given how highly you recommend it, in the end I went with the ST3RS due to handling and weight savings. I fully expect this to be as good as you say it is, if the Striple has a fault, it's the low torque output on typical tight twisty road RPMs. If this was available a few months ago, I might have this and the Interceptor 650 for less than the ST3RS, I can't see the real-world performance being inferior to its big brother.
Just bought mine!
How does the bike stand for the shorter rider ?
Love the styling , wish they'd do a 900 or 1050 one
Well, I'm convinced.
Just bought one. Life is good. 😎
I bought a second hand 2018 Street Triple A2 660 (and had it derestricted to 94 BHP) just over a year ago. I did swap that in for a Speed Triple mid this year. Yes, I was possibly a bit silly !
Now I wonder, if Triumph had this bike out back in 2019 , would I have got it instead of the Street Triple 660 ? Would I have then still been tempted to swap in for a Speed Triple ?
I realise this bike isn't aimed at the Speed Triple market, the reason I swapped in a Street for a Speed was because of the massive amount of low down torque ( and not really the top end rush ).
So I am really interested in how the Trident compares to the Street Triple 660 94BHP and not the Street Triple RS.
I really do like the look of the headlight on the Trident over the Street and Speed Triples.
Love it
Went through a few bikes. Finally got a great deal on a 765rs and God damn it's so fucking good. That engine sound is not a joke, it's like a drug.
Put a deposit for Silver Ice/Diablo Red two days after live launch and I knew I wasn't wrong
You will know soon enough if you were wrong.
@@worldhello1234 I guess so, but like one of the vbloggers said few weeks ago, on paper everything looks perfect and if bike wouldn't act like a dishwasher during ride it's gonna be absolute hit. So far this and other first ride reviews last few days support that claim.
I did the same! Can’t wait!
Take the bike out to country roads in Spring, and if you wear open face helmet, you will return with bugs in your tooth. You just can't stop grinning.
I want this bike so bad but I live in Vegas and sometimes like to take a dirt road here and there and don’t want to scratch this beauty
Not a huge Triumph fan especially as they have basically given up on manufacturing in the UK but that is a cracking package for the money, great review.
Manufacturing in the UK means higher price tags. They are forced to do so, otherwise they will have financial issues.
Manufacturing in asia is the best option for any manufacturer cheaper costs
This is going to be so much more fun to ride than a recent Street Triple which doesn't wake up until you're doing 100. This is going to sell loads, and well done them. Hopefully a retro looking version will follow...
I am still riding Daytona T595.
One of the possibility to customize. Thanks for good reference.
I think this is the first review I've seen it this bike that doesn't feature, intentionally or not, a bunch of other reviewers.
Like the bike agree about the plastic side panels on the tank. The rear licence plate indicator holder is naff to but all in all they will sell truck loads of them and one of them to me.
잘봣어요 Good bike and good review
I think the tank is fine, no problem with the rear hugger either. Looks great to me! So trading in my 2019 St-twin 900,on Saturday and that's been a great bike for 3yrs. But this trident has got to me. Can't afford to keep both so... Hello Trident.
Looks nice, might be interested when I pay my XSR700 off, but not if Yamaha do a new one of those by then!
I like the scollops- get chips with that? I fitted a small universal bikini fairing to my CB500F which does a good job of keeping the wind off. This one looks like being good fun and practical without blowing the budget. Not everyone needs or wants an H2.
Service intervals are excellent as is the fuel economy 👌
Looking to buy one of these right now but the supply is out in my area. Looking at options.
71 RD 350, 77 xs650, 78 kz650sr, 76 900 ltd, still have that one, 86 zl900 eliminator, wish I still had that one. In my mid 60's now and at 170 lbs, still pretty fit. Looks like the right bike for my age and abilities going into the gray years. Thanks for your very comprehensive review.
Hopefully they'll offer a fully faired version at some point.
OMG can't wait
Cool bike!
When it gonna enter Malaysia?
About the forks - can you change the oil weight when you get them serviced? Can you change the springs if they are wrong for you? I'm pretty sure 'non adjustable' is just convenience. I've had WP for a few months now, and I'm yet to give the dials a click. And Nissin brakes - used for a long time in competition. Expectations seem to be based on marketing and hype. Unfortunately, so are the positives here. The tank shape is what makes it a trident, and the three cylinders. Doesn't have the torque of a Husqvarna single, doesn't rev like a three cylinder Aprilia either.
Expectations of brakes are built around the spec, two-piston sliding calipers a basic at best, but on this bike they work extremely well.
I LOVE THE STYLING AND TFT DASH IS THE NICEST l ve seen yet .l can see heated grips and stainless brake lines maybe an exhaust as upgrades to this in its future :) l believe this will be a great middle weight anyone will love
Good review, but I am getting bored of hearing it's a great bike for new riders and A2 compliant! I'm sure there will be plenty of experienced riders who will be attracted to this "real world" bike. Me included! (42 years in the saddle 😂)👍
Same here - since 1971.
@@user-sw2lv3zp6o Here, in less than a month I'll be I'll be 75. Started in 1966, and a British bike fan, having owned 175 Bantam, 250 Shooting star, and 650 Hornet. All are BSAs. Icurrently have a 765RS, and it's the bike that gives me most joy riding it. Mind you, I also have a SuperSport S 950.
@@sportmuaythaiv1045 Keep riding!
I think in 2021 all new motorcycles should come standard with quick shifter and lithium battery . Manufacturers might as well add them to the bike’s on road price as standard just like ABS and discount the price based on volume of mass use
I accept that badging in the side “TRIDENT”should have been a moulded one in grey or black making it more subtle or else done put it only...
I love motorcycles, of all kinds. If I had the means I’d have all of them in my garage.
Now realistically I’ve never been able to afford more than one, or my dream bike for that matter.
I’m retired now at 57 and I’m in the market for something new that embodies all my desires in a motorcycle into one, given a lifelong realization that I’ll never be a dominant dirt bike or super sport rider. I feel this bike and engine are perfect for what I will use it for with just the right amount of overkill.
Thank you triumph for:
1. Considering us shorter riders. I have always been a fan of the big bmw boxer motored GS’s but I’m not a giant Nordic person. It seems the biggest bikes get all the best quality parts and trim.
2. The torque ratio for mid band torque in this bike is best for ALL riders. The powerband of bikes like say the CB 650R, are dictated by the sport bike industry are for the track and best left there. This bike gives you that same power at lower RPM’s where it is accessible on every ride.
3. Making this bike available, and at a good price, to me in South America where most models are very difficult to import.
Saving my money as we speak for the next model year.
PS. More shiney paint options with that killer large logo and please, no more flat black bikes (done to death) or red bits that don’t match anything.
Is it suitable for tall riders?
Yes we are looking at the next Speed Triple......
Nice renewed classic look. Winner for an A2 or LAMS (learner approved motorcycle)
what about the mileage?
Speaking of incoming models, do you think they might put this engine in a more classic design like a Bonnie or should I just embrace modern designs? Personally I’d prefer analog dials and less tech but I’m probably in the minority
Has street appeal 🤔 looks good. AND has good riding appeal. With good ergonomics. It should become there biggest seller. Got the cb650r in the cross hairs.
The engine makes it a more enjoyable bike to ride, especially for newer riders
The black one is mint.
"You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means."
@@maximusmax4557 are you quoting yourself? Or a movie? Or?

Not sure if this isa review or an advert. That mill woold make an excellent basis for an adventure platform.
How's the meals and accommodation ?
I really wish they make a cut down version of the TIGER 660 GT with this motor 🤩
Beautiful design, would be nice with a bigger model competing with the Honda CB1000r naked.
This bike in this livery is so beautiful. I’m a huge fan. And the single, circular headlight is just the way the naked gods intended. The tank scallops could be better though. Maybe in 2022.
I wish toad would sit on bikes at a stop to show us how someone of his size fits the bike.
It’s ugly AF!
Looks neat. But not sure if it is enough to make it a better option than the Husqvana 701s.
I really want to see a proper track/road test
Aprilia Tuono 660
Triumph Trident 660
Honda CB650R
Suzuki SV650
Ninja Z650
Yamaha MT07
The only thing I dislike about the design is the handlebar. I know it's for ergonomic reasons but it would look so much better with a straight handlebar or even clip ons.
Built in Thailand again!! I wonder if they put the piston rings in properly on this one unlike the Speed Triple which used to burn oil like you wouldn't believe because they don't know how to put an engine together properly.
Looks gorgeous, such a shame it's so small though. Couldn't get a japanese bike because I feel too tall for them (and I'm "just" 1m80). Ended up getting a F800R.
If Triumph ends up doing a bigger and beefier version of the Trident, maybe with a 900ish engine, I'd definitly be sold.
@9:29 Most expensive? Isn't that the Honda CB650R?
Always ugly when they stick the plate over the back wheel. Noticed the MT09 done this then switched back for the new model. Hopefully there's an option for a normal tail tidy. Agree with the tank comment. The plastic and logo make it look cheap. Red bits look random also.
what a cool bike! wouldn't buy it because I need something comfy for my gf...but I would really love to try it :)
How tall are you?
Toad, you sound more complimentary than in yesterday's video, I wonder if that was because you'd had a beer! And referring to the SV650 as the OAP of the competitors, well thats just rude, its barely out of its teens :) Just kidding, great report.
Waiting for an arrow exhaust system day 1 😂🤣
Extreme Creations turbo kit...even better
Stock looks like hell
all production moves to Asia as they fly the Union Jack on the gas tank
That annoys me too
@@theorisoe3630 I can assure that Triumphs manufactured in Thailand are of highest quality. Ducati is manufactured here for export market as well. H&D moved its manufacturing from India to Thailand Honda will only export to Europe and USA, motorcycles motorcycles manufactured in Thailand, and not those made in Indonesia. OEM manufacturers in Thailand make psrts to factory specifications, higher quality than in Indonesia, and India.
@@sportmuaythaiv1045 It's not really a quality issue for me.
British company, designed in Britain. Triumph is still a major employer here near Hinckley, think they have a right to fly the union flag on the petrol tank if they wish.
@@Banditmanuk Yes. Triumph holds major share of its Thailand plant.
So the background music drowns out the sound of the bike.. Well done. 🙈
