      Hi Andrew, just do it, I think you ride different bikes in different ways and this bike looks like a pretty chilled machine from Triumph fast enough, economic and a good looker.

    • @Trevor_Austin
      @Trevor_Austin 3 года назад +1

      @@briantarry4329 That makes you like me then only I’m a few months ahead. I took some “return to biking” lessons and eventually ended up buying a 18 month old low mileage Bonneville. Had the this bike been around I might have bought one. Don’t get me wrong, the Bonneville is a lovely bike and so is this one. What fantastic times we live in to have choices like this.

      Funny you should say that. I rode a KMX-125 in the '90s, but I haven't ridden for 25 years. I recently became interested in getting back into biking, and I was considering a CB650R until this beauty popped up on my radar. Certainly I will give both a test ride when COVID-19 is no longer a factor.

      Ride the same type of bike you last rode.
      Otherwise theres also the Street TWIN. A beautiful machine 96bhp and acres of torque from tickover..and its a small ish bike despite 1200cc.

    Really appreciate the reviews man! I was about to buy the Honda CB650R but changed my mind and put down a deposit for the Trident when I first saw the lauch event. The rear end, screen setup, lighter weight, torque delivery sold it for me. Can’t wait until January to ride this beauty

    Fellows I'm 72 years I learn how to ride on my first bike when I was 12 years old on a Triumph 500 1955 spit fire. My dearly uncle allowed me that opportunity and I never had turned back from those Iron horses.
    I drove must of old English bikes, then turned to Italian bikes and finally to Nipón bikes and some of the American "imitations" passing thru generations, like this new Triumph attacking the miles apparently, that if you not carefully respected, could be definitely the good bye, to those golden years.

      Me too. I was thinking Royal Enfield 650, but since this came out I am changing my mind. I like the spec of the other bikes in this class, but not the mundane looks that they all seem to have. This bike really looks sweet in comparison. As much as I like the RE 650, I think this one would be more fun to ride. Cheers!

      @rickducharme7429 3 года назад

      @@ronrandall5953 I'm in Canada, and the price for this bike is below CDN$9,000 which is a super bargain compared with the other bikes I was interested in. As an example, the new Rebel 1000 is CDN$13,000 for the manual version. I really like Triumphs, and the trident with the appearance package is still below 10K. I have always preferred all rounders bc of the versatility, but none that I recall have had the cache of this little Triumph. Sounds like this bike would round out your stable nicely. Cheers!

    My wife bought a Trident 660. It is fun, they made a spectacular bike. The fuel economy seems to drop off quickly on the highway though. 5th and 6th could be a little taller for fuel economy. I can pull 50-60 mpg on my Tiger 800 and she falls near the 40 mpg mark on the same long hauls. With the low profile seat and (aftermarket drop kit) she is very happy to join the Triumph family!

    Great review Rob - Thank you. Passed my test as a 50ish something last year and went for the Street Triple and love it....so much that I also picked a beauty of a Black Bonneville ST which I've enjoyed customising during the lockdown. I know you have one too and enjoy it. However, I fell in love with the CB1000r and the STR has had to go in place of the Honda but my Bonneville ST won't be going anywhere.
    Triumph know how to make an attractive package and that matt black and white paint option is stunning. I think this new bike from them will really bring back some of us 'older' riders into the hobby/sport.

    Hi Bob it's your cousin Gavin, don't know much about bike's, but I'm very impressed with your reviews on these motorised machines, you could maybe introduce your lancastrian accent so us northerners can understand your posh accent that you have acquired, haha 😂 only joking, I was showing my lad finlay your channel he was very impressed, saw uncle Mark up town the other day on chopper, keep up the good work motobob, hope you and your family are well 👍

    Picked up my Trident as a first bike. I’ve now got a little over 1000 miles on it and love it more with each mile. It’s everything I could want from a bike to learn on.

      The gloss black and white options are a bit more subtle, and £100 cheaper

    Thanks Rob, looks like you had a blast? Would be interesting to see what actually happens on these press trips? As for the bike, being a Triumph I'd definitely rate this over the competitors. Is it made in Thailand like the other Triumphs? Looks wise, I'd prefer this over most of the others with only CBR being a consideration. I really hope this bike works out for Triumph, together with the forthcoming Tiger 850, Triumph have certainly been listening to customers on what they want...a cheap, well specc'd and accomplished bike.

      Tbh I think the manufacturers are keen to keep the content about the bikes rather than the trip, which is fair. But could make for a good podcast after our recent hiatus. And yes, made in Thailand.

    Since this is the new entry level within Triumph bikes, how would you rate the riding pleasure of this new Trident compared to your Street Twin, especially for urban trips? Thanks!

    • @motobob
      @motobob  3 года назад +3

      If you purely want a dollop of torque then the street twin still has it, but it’s heavier, brakes are worse, and it has no top end. So for quicker riding, the Trident wins hands down. Depends on what you’re after I guess...

    Im'e waiting for the Trident Adventure bike to be released, will defiantly buy one, last Trident I bought was a T160V new in 76

      IMO buying a Trident back then took commitment and a leap of faith! Never owned a triple from that era, but I did buy a new 1978 T140, had my share of owner commitment but still one of my favorite bikes over a lifetime of riding

      @@randledewees4405 Rode 12000 hard miles on the first year of ownership, no issues ,did 8000 the following year had a clutch thrust bearing go, probably down to the thrashing I gave it but it still rode, the sound at over 100 mph absolutely phenomenal ,never had a bike since that sounded as good.

    This was the trident review I’ve been waiting for Bob.
    This or a street twin? I’ve got a car and a scooter that I use around town. But moving to a place out of town with a garage and looking for my first “proper” bike as I’ll now have to go through fast a-roads to get into town.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  3 года назад +3

      Depends on what you prefer - low down torque and a weighty feel, then go for the Street Twin. If you want something lightweight and a bit more rev happy, then go for the Trident.

    Best review so far ... as always 👊. Love the matte black with the Union Flag but Only concern for me is the size of the bike which looks a bit small ? Well I own an Indian FTR (A2) which is high so this may explain my comment...

    • @motobob
      @motobob  3 года назад +1

      It’s definitely not a big bike - 805mm seat height is moderate and it feels slim. There’s another black model btw without the UJ

    Great review.. this bike really has it all for the price. I know you’ve tested the Harley sportster s. And I know they are very different bikes in many ways. But can you give any advice on which you’d lean towards. Yes cost is almost double in sportster. But you get what you pay for. And draw back with triumph is closest dealer of triumph is about 45 min away where as Harley very close by. Thanks for the solid reviews.

    That’s where I am in life, a nice smooth mid range. Very attractive for me. Hate the exhaust but that’s secondary. I’m sure Acrapovic has a cure for that like the one on the street triple. Probably fits right on here.
