This is about dancing in a disco club. In Europe the ages stayed lower to get into clubs and to drink for that matter. This is about being free and and young and dancing in the discotheque. Love the song and love this group. I went to the ABBA museum when I visited Sweden.
I only wish it would have been that way here in the US, since i was in love with a girl around that age but i was older, and because of that we lost contact and nothing ever became of it, but now that i'm 51 what does it even matter about ages or who even cares about lost loves by then... except ME of course, still being single!!!
@@CaptWalker Yeah it crazy how you can drive at 16, have to pay taxes at 18 and can be sent to war but you can’t drink any alcohol until 21.
@@sondersonics7534 BACK THEN THE DRINKING AGE WAS 18
Well SAID!
I also went to Sweden buying there solo albums before the ABBA time
You're looking at this very much through American eyes lol. Remember that this group is Swedish. Nothing to do with prom, homecoming or sweet 16. Just a girl out dancing on a Friday night.
Music is open to your own interpretation, you get your own feelings based on your own culture. It’s like how movie music can make or break a scene in a film. Songs mean different things to different people.
But it's played at every prom ,wedding and birthday lol
The song was wrote for the princess of Sweden for her birthday
@@mariasachinidi4799 Whoch princess??
Im an earthling. I love music. I love this.
This song still fills up the dance floors.
ABBA - Our Last Summer also a good one
It sure does! And these days, I am happy to be swept away.
Don't stop! Keep going with ABBA. Try next "Knowing Me Knowing You" and then "Take a Chance on Me" and then "SOS" to see their range. Two lead singers with husbands in the band. A magical moment in time when they were a group.
The new songs are good too....Don't Shut Me Down, I Still Have Faith In You.
I've been a metal head since the age of 4 when I first heard KISS and hated disco growing up but their harmony is so perfect and infectious that it's my embarrassing guilty pleasure.
Dont be guilty
Wish I could love this
Don`t beat yourself up about it. Some people are embarrassed at liking some metal.
Mine too mate 👍
it's good music idk why someone would have to feel guilty about liking music, but I feel you.
i think abba is one of those ultra rare group's that never ever made a bad song everything they produced is as fresh today as it was all those decades ago.
When my wife and her friends hear this song they up screaming & dancing 💃 They say good clubbing memories.
Try the live version from ABBA Tour Australia
I kinda remember those clubbing days. The 80s are still a little foggy to me but I do remember this song filling the dance floors. No social distancing back then, no sir!
It's all about the disco dance
"Knowing Me, Knowing You" might not be quite the magnet to the dance floor that this one is, but it's every bit the anthem ---get it!!
Sticking to the Disco theme "Summer night City" or "Lay all your love on me" would also be great.
I love that when those harmonies kick in, Asia's smile just gets bigger and bigger. ABBA was the shit back in the day.
The video shows them dancing in a disco , dancing queen . I remember this being no 1 in the UK in the 1976. Abba made more money for Sweden than Volvo cars
Y'all gotta hear Fernando now. I used to skate to this one, I miss my youth 😅
The 70s had it all - rock , hard , soft , progressive or ballad . Love ballads , r&b and disco . and it was all good
You can't hear this song and not smile! I listen to ABBA when I do house chores. It makes it WAY more fun!
Ive watched thru the window David dancing while mopping those floors🤣
70's disco was fun times, care free.
ABBA is my absolute favorite! Love the disco and their voices!
By far their biggest international hit! Disco was huge back then.
What is there not to like about ABBA? Man, the boys wrote the amazing songs and those girls just knocked you out with their voices and their beauty!
They were very big in the United States during the 70's but overall worldwide they were the most popular group
ABBA were the biggest worldwide group in the 70s, but not very big in US
@@eduardooscar309 Says who??? In the mid 70's they were very big Mama Mia, Honey Honey, SOS, Take a chance on me, Knowing me Knowing you , Money Money Money, Waterloo Fernando .......
@@eduardooscar309 I agree they Weren't humongous but they were big and had plenty of hits.
@@juliemnm8273 Says the official charts of course. Mamma Mia (US #32), Honey Honey (US #27), SOS (US #15), Take a chance on me (US #3), Knowing me Knowing you (US #14), Money Money Money (US #56), Waterloo (US #6), Fernando (US #13). Not so “very big”
No they werent big in the US, they freely admit they never 'conquered' America. But were huge in Europe, UK and Australia for 6-7 years. I think they only had 1 US no.1.
When we were younger going out to the bars or whatever, every now and then the DJ would pull this song out and everybody would run out and dance! The movie “Mama Mia” is a musical set to all Abba music - worth checking out!
Mama Mia came from the stage musical that is performed in many countries in many languages.cher has a cameo in the sequel mama Mia here we go again.
Mama Mia is one of the worst films ever made. I adore Abba, have done since the 70s. The movie is shockingly bad. Like, really. Awful.
@@jonnylumberjack6223 totally agree. I had to turn off, I couldn't stand it.
@@jonnylumberjack6223 -ha! Well, a bunch of us gals saw it with our daughters and had a great time watching it - we really liked it! The music alone made it worth it for us. My husband- it was a hard no for him.
@@carolynnewcomb2153 I am a "gal", not every female in the world likes this kind of crap. Thankfully.
It's a 'Timeless Song', that will never fade away!
*NEVER* I quite agree
Probably the best pop song ever recorded! Total eargasm.
Abba is so much more than just this one song. My favorite is called Summer Night City. But I also LOVE Does Your Mother Know, Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (A Man After Midnight), Voulez Vouz, Name of the Game, and Under Attack. ALL worth checking out :) Hugs from Canada.
It's about a night out partying. Lyrics go "friday night and the lights are low...looking out for a place to go"
I can see Asia and BJ dancing below the disco ball back in the 70's to song 💚
Hello again Nice to see your reaction to the biggest ABBA worldwide hit
"Dancing Queen" (1976) is a beautiful song, which shines in the loftiness of its vocal harmonies
The boys achieved here an extraordinary work of Agnetha (soprano voice) and Anni Frid (mezzo soprano voice), each one gives its best effort to match the other (Anni Frid rises in the highs, Agnetha lowers more to the bass) and thus their combined voves achieve records of perfection
And the music is bright and enveloping, from the initial chord it introduces you into the atmosphere of the disco and invites you to dance
English public has voted it as one of the songs they want to hear the most, because of the feeling of joy and energy it gives them (another is "Don't stop me now" by Queen)
and "Dancing Queen" was included in the Hall of Fame of Rock & roll music
and in May 21 (2021)
the official video of "Dancing Queen"
the biggest worldwide hit of ABBA
exceeded 500,000,000 views on RUclips
and #ABBA remastered it in HD
Spectacular image, it's like being there with Them
now I suggest to react
"Take a chance on me' (1977/78)
#3 in US Billboard
and seventh #1 in UK Charts
Thank you so much for reading me
I hope to continue seeing your lovely reactions
GOD bless you
my regards from Argentina

Eduardo, just out of curiosity, do you ever listen to other music that Benny and Björn has created, outside of ABBA? And if you do, how do you feel about it?
Hi Eduardo, I see your name here and there on RUclips and I always enjoy reading your interesting and insightful comments about ABBA and music. So thank you for that!
@@kayokaye9474
Thanks for your words
I only listen some songs before ABBA
from Hep Stars (Benny) or
Hottenary Singers (Björn)
but I prefer the music of ABBA
it's historic and icónic
ABBA are in The Podium of the Greatest Groups in rock pop music history, with The Beatles
@@eduardooscar309 I agree, ABBA are iconic, and way way bigger than what they can create individually. But I love to see how Björn and Benny have continued to work together after ABBA (or "in between" ABBA as it has turned out) and Björn writes the most amazing lyrics when writing in his mother tongue (yes, even better than in English). I always find it so sad when I hear about a group that has been so close and have a life experience that few others may understand, and then one day they can't stand each other, they no longer communicate. Like Paul McCartney and John Lennon or Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel for example..well the history of music is full of these failed relationhips. But not the two B's and that really makes me so happy and grateful.
I have taken the liberty to include links to a couple of songs that Björn and Benny has done together in latter years (yes I know, the number of links just grew and grew - forgive me ☺). PLEASE FEEL NO OBLIGATION TO LISTEN TO ANY OF THEM!
The first two songs are from a Swedish musical Björn an Benny wrote together, Kristina from Duvemåla:
Guldet blev till sand:

This next one is from a musical Björn and Benny wrote in collaboration with Time Rice:
Anthem

Here are a couple of songs that Björn and Benny wrote for Benny's new 'hobby band' BAO (=Benny Andersson Orchestra). The members are all big names in their own right, as musicians or other creative jobs, one is a well known theatre director for example. They don't often perform together but they try to make a short tour every summer, playing mainly on outdoor venues, such as outdoor dance halls:

Bono w/ U2, at least on one occasion, performed this in concert as a tribute to ABBA's exceptional skill at song writing/ arranging/production, even though he freely admits to previously despising them back in their heyday, saying he considered their music to be too "girly-sounding". Always admire a person who is big enough to admit they were wrong, especially in such a public way.
I was one of those idiots 😁 .now I get ABBA and am at this moment dancing around the room, even though I'm isolating with covid!
@@toniyoung5131 better late than never 😆
If I remember correctly, Benny and Bjorn came on stage and played a bit of it at that U2 concert, and Bono bowed before them lol.
So did Metallica
Ayyy this song is fire!!!! Great reaction
I believe Rolling Stone ( or a contributor) did a very interesting take on this song. It really could be someone in a club watching the current “dancing Queen” on the floor and pining away about their time in the sun. It was either “ the happiest or saddest dance song ever written.” I personally think ABBA was about as genius as they come. Without a doubt one of the greatest pop songs ( and groups ) EVER.
How about those vocals, the instruments, the strings & that piano playing? ABBA is "FIRE" and this track is an absolute "VIBE!!!"
Listen, ABBA is the shit! I was born in January 1970 obviously grew up listening to ABBA. They were a big deal on my home. My mom loved them so we listen to them a lot.
A Song that starts with the second half of the Chorus. Amazing!
Great reaction guys. Glad you decided to do another ABBA song. This is one of the most popular Mega hits of all time! Keep diving into their tremendous catalog of hits.
The key changes and orchestration, just sublime 👌
The first thing I think of when I hear this song is "Where are my roller skates?", LOL There were some kids that had fancy skate moves for this one. I never reached that skill level at the roller rink, but in my head I was killin' it 😂. Good times!
The song talks about Friday night and looking for a place to go, so pretty sure it's not about the prom ;)
"Dancing Queen" and "Staying Alive" are the two songs everybody has heard but don't necessarily know who sung them. Like the songs are bigger then the artist themselves.
Greetings to you both from the UK. First been following your channel for about 10 months and loving the stuff you are playing. As a audio engineer of 62years old i remember this track from 1976 when i had just started my 6 years at college to get my electronic engineering qualifications and we were about to have the hottest summer in the uk on record so far. Such great memories thanks once again to you guys stay well and safe.
All about dancing in the dico's
This is awesome. My two other favs by them are Does Your Mother Know and Take A Chance On Me. So many great hits.
Not proms .. just a young girl who wants to just dance at a disco or club .. celebrating youth & freedom 😐🇮🇪☘️
Love you two, and your reactions. Not to sound offensive, but the part of the song that you keep referring to that hear all the time is called "the Hook". It's the part of the song that's most melodic and hummable. It keeps you coming back.
This was one of the biggest songs of the late 1970's. It is one of the 20 ABBA songs in the Broadway musical and movie by the same name, Mama Mia (their are 2 Mama Mia movies and a third coming). This song is done by flash mobs, performed at weddings, and often done with the song Mama Mia. It is all over RUclips and the musical is performed by high school and college music departments all over the country. Who hasn't heard Dancing Queen?
"Dancing Queen" came out smack Deb in the middle of the Disco era, and although I was a little older than seventeen I dressed to impress and I thought I was the dancing queen just like every lady on the dance floor that did the same 😆.
This song was huge in the 70s! And still on fire!🔥 almost 50 years later and still sounds great today!
When this song came out the age to enter clubs were younger. 18 to drink wore wrist bands, 16- 18 could enter but no bands no alcohol.
I love Punk, Metal, Grunge & Rock. I also love Classical, Jazz, Reggae and many other genres. ABBA, is, was, and always will be the greatest Pop band ever (sorry Madonna) - it doesn't matter what music you like, you will love ABBA, even if you don't know it yet. The smile on Asia's face within 10 seconds explains it all.
I defy even the most hardcore metal fan to refuse getting up to sing ABBA at karaoke ! ;)
so glad abba started over again, their music just makes you happy
Song makes me think of a bright-eyed teenage girl going out & experiencing night life for the first time! The lights. The music. The energy. An just having the time of her life dancing! ✨💃
this music represents an era, a generation. It s the most gourgeous thing i ve ever listened in my short 22 years
This was real big in the 70's and led to the Broadway Play Mama-Mia-they had some nice tracks and their story was really interesting-they were both married couples for a few years. They had some other nice hits like Waterloo, SOS etc..
The disco queen
This is about being a dancer in the clubs that everyone comes to watch. That was a thing in the disco era. I was in that dancing crowd. People were amazed by us. We were dancing queens!
I was 20 years old when this came out. Danced to it many times in the discos.
The way asia smile in every dancing queen part's lmao 😂❤
Also check out ABBA's song "Take a Chance on Me" and "Fernando" (among many many other great songs in their catalog), although "Dancing Queen" has ALWAYS been my favorite! This song just makes you want to get up and dance!!!
"Fernando"
"Take A Chance"
"Mama Mia"
"Does Your Mother Know"
Played at every Wedding Reception in UK, Ireland, Australia.
Please do more ABBA ...!! THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC and NAME OF THE GAME w/ videos and SLIPPING THRU MY FINGERS LIVE from tv show.
Wow! You (girl) got an amazing smile! 😮 … and… great song!
I was a kid when ABBA was at their peak. It was frowned upon for a boy to admit that he liked them so I didn't, but I loved all their stuff. Still do at 53 years old.
And it wasn't a gay thing. We weren't really aware of that; we just thought Paul Lynde was witty. But it was a gay thing in the other sense of the word.
Lots of high school memories, excellent group and song! This came out when disco was huge.
Abba's One and Only Nr. 1 Hit in the U.S. Billboard Charts !
The Song had its World Premiere at the Wedding of King Karl Gustav and Queen Silvia of Sweden!
A great Honor for Abba !
Makes me wish I could still roller skate! 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Big time classic. Never grows old.
The pop song of the century. Made a gazillion dollars for them. ABBA used unique phrasing and melodies.
In the 70’s, they actually had clubs for teenagers to go and dance. In the Chicago suburbs we had one called The Zoo.
Btw really love watching you two get your grooves on and walking us through all this great music you've been showing .and playing for us..uh but ya for me it's the music lifting me up , and up! I mean ya the plot or story line is simple and easy to relate to AND/BUT ..HOOO! that arrangement, bass groove along w the beat oh anda cn't forget soaring melodies! I'm loving this! Music can bring us all together and I like that!🫶🙏🏽🎵🎶 thank you!
This 'ABBA performed this song on June 18, 1976 at a televised tribute to Queen Silvia and King Gustaf XVI of Sweden, who were married the next day.'
They weren't really disco but got thrown into that genre but they were much more than that.
Everystyle pop disco little bit of rock folklore ,they playedmix of everything
Asia I love how your face just lit up with joy!!!!
This is about discomusic in the 70s and dancing in the clubs in that music age, when clubs and discos proliferated
Hi Asia and BJ, I've been listening to you two lovebirds for a while now. My wife is Swedish and it's funny that when I typed your names Abba came up. My wife also loves listening to you as well as Abba. We are both from the South Torrance in the South Bay of LA and now live in Laguna Beach, CA. I'm I So-Cal surfer from the '70's who also lived in the SF Bay Area for about 4 years in the '70's and went to alot of concerts in both LA and SF throughout the '70's and beyond. I'm the youngest of 6 kids so I was listening to all the best 60's and 70's rock bands from a very young age and I love to see how much you two like the classics from our youth. I recommend that you play one of the smoothest sounding bands of all time. Most people thinks they are black singers because they have so much soul but they are white boys from our neighborhood and High School in South Torrance and San Pedro, California. Their harmonies are as good if not better than the Beach Boys. They are not one hit wonders, they have dozens of top songs. The name of the band is Ambrosia and I recommend for starters that you listen to, "Holding on to Yesterday." Thank you, trust me you will be blown away. Eric
ABBA the voices and the harmony's are out of this world
That beautiful smile was just beaming.. This is a technically great song. Disco isn't dead...😜
Ah. This reminds me of my favourite ABBA tribute band, Bjorn Again. There is a great video of them performing many ABBA songs, including Dancing Queen, at "ABBA Bjorn Again 1998 Live Concert", from The Royal Albert Hall UK. Its fantastic.
Y’all are so cute and so sweet! Love y’all’s reactions! Yes, this song celebrates the joy of going out to a disco club to hear and dance to the the popular music. It was the standard pastime on Friday and Saturday nights to go out dancing with friends, meet people, make new friends, just have a good time. Check out the official video to Dancing Queen, too. Y’all will enjoy it! Love to you two sweeties from down in Houston! 🌸💗😊🥰
I love y'all's reactions and I love y'all as a couple you are both amazing! Please react to Gabriel Henrique's cover of Stand Up it is amazing!
This is so much a classic song, I believe it goes back to the early seventies. The other day this was playing on the radio in my car. I was wishing I could have it play over and over.
ABBA, comes from their names.
Agentha, Bjorn, Benny & Anni.
A swedish grp.😊😊😊
This song will always remind me of Late Night with ART BELL on Coast To Coast AM talk show about black and grey projects by the military and the Defense department. R.I.P. brother.
There are many ways in which this song is perfect. One of them which doesn't get so much attention is that *bassline* - it's just sublime. The whole song is just one big rush of euphoria.
It was actually co written and produced by Stig Anderson(Abba producer and arranger) who also gave the song the title Dancing Queen.
I can't tell you how many times my friends and I would sing this at Korean Noraybangs when I lived in Korea (those are the Korean version of karaoke).
Björn and Benny said, that the idea to Dancing queen first came when they heard Rock your baby by George McCrae. They really liked the rhythm of that song and wanted something like it in their own song. I think they used it well.
Fantastic song, fantastic vocals and production.
I love vibing w you two!!😍🎶🕺 love it when it switches gears, ya'll know what I'm talkin about! ..you can dance part!🎶🎵 orchestral parts , bass parts, the beat , the groove, wow!! I can't stop hitting repeat😄 ..Asia you have such a beautiful smile! Love you two!
I love this song! It's more about dancing in clubs ... and being the best dancer in there. That's the way I took it, anyway. I used to think I was the"Dancing Queen" .. ha ha
After disco clubs, this was on rotation in Roller Skating Rinks...Lots of roller girls dancing to this... Not me, I never could skate (I fell down a lot)
This song was a hit and transmitted on the radio every summer in the '80s, I always associate this song with summer beach vacation, it's very uplifting and joyful.
1976
1976 #1 in Europe
1977 #1 in North America
@@eduardooscar309 yeah, u're right, I forgot 😄
Dancing Queen, like the disco era, which is when this song came out.
Factoid: This was a John McCain favorite, when he was on the trail running for president, Dancing Queen was played at every one of his rallies.
Rock and roll began as dance music. The terms "rock" and "roll" refer to dance moves. In the 1960s, during the Vietnam War and Civil Rights protests, youth popular music shifted to message music. You couldn't dance to the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Peter Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Simon and Garfunkel, Judy Collins, Buffy Ste Marie, Crosby Still Nash and Young, etc. The Civil Rights Movement achieved its legislative goals in the mid sixties. The Vietnam War ended in 1973. There was a shift back to lighthearted dance music in the mid-70s, which included Abba.
The dance here is the Hustle, of which there were many versions. The Hustle was a return to contact dancing. The basic Hustle step was a cha-cha. One/step left..two/step right...cha-cha-cha/ left-right-left, double time.
Fun fact: This song was recorded as a Honorary celebration song for the Royal wedding of Queen Silvia & King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden 1976 that Abba performed on their wedding day when the German civilian, Silvia Renate. Sommerlath with Brazilian Mother & German father became the QUEEN Of SWEDEN 19:e June 1976
Timeless = ABBA
Y’all should watch Mamma Mia! So many great songs and they’re all written by ABBA 😊
Very very 70's. I was kid when this was a big hit. It reminds me of my preteens.
The intro isn’t even a not or two, it’s a whole ripppp and you instantly know what song it is!!! Love that!
Such a great song and band from back in the day. Thanks guys!! If you get a chance check out Brandi Carlile “The Joke” or The band Alabama Shakes, Brittany Murphy is the lead singer of Alabama Shakes and the master mind behind the band. Also the band Black Keys. Anything from the library of Alabama Shakes and The Black Keys is worth a listen. All 3 of the artists I mentioned are newer artists but no one has done reactions to them. Happy New Year Guys! Thank you and peace ✌🏼❤️❤️❤️
Epic. Brilliant. Legend. When the DJ put this on, everyone freaks out in a club.
Their world wide acclaim was warranted. They truly ruled
when they were singing their classic songs like this one.
When the King and Queen of Sweden had their wedding reception the King had ABBA play this song for his wife
