Chiquitita is a Spanish term of endearment for a woman meaning “little one."
The narrator is an older woman talking to a younger one and consoling her after a relationship has broken up. She is offering a shoulder to cry on and saying they will have good times again in the future. So it's a message of comfort and encouragement for a heartbroken friend speaking of hope for better days to come.
Great comment Ann. Thanks.
@@metalmark1214 You're welcome 🌟💕🙂
Thank you for sharing this , never too old to learn something new!!
@@kenpaden You're welcome 💚🙂
Yeah but in a very Heart string pull feeling it would be “baby girl” “my darling” there’s no right or wrong but it one’s concept. Regardless it’s a heart string pull song every time.
One of Swedens biggest exports, only 2nd to Beatles in albums sold.I'm absolutely no disco fan,but ABBA makes my old punk rock butt shake 😊
My dad used to say that, he did not like disco but he loved abba
Anders you got a good taste and you just know how to distinguish good music made with honesty from fake made stuff.Punks n the '70s were rumoured to do an exception for approva on those 4 Swedes as opposed to many rock"critics" that kept slagging them off without mercy.
ABBA is NOT disco. They only dabbled in one or two dance oriented tracks before and after their only disco oriented album, Voulez-Vous (1979). They covered many genres like ballads, pop, reggae, country, theatre, classical, folk and electro-pop.
@Calvin Murty Haha......ok? From the bottom of my heart,I apologize if that hurt your feelings 😮
@Anders Wiik - Not at all lol! But just thought it would be best for me to clarify. These superSwedes are more multidimensional than mere disco! 🤣🤣🤣
The magic of ABBA. Music that will never go away. Perfect then, perfect today.
Hi Barry!Just Said it all!
@@alexioverdo5225 Hi Alexio 👋
ABBA was a group of Master Musicians and Consumate Professional. I'm a Metal Head, Rocker , but I absolutely Dig this Jam. 🎼🎼🎼
You hit the nail right on the head 👍 Whether you love techno, hip-hop or rock. The talent of this band is absolutely out of any question. 😎
They were mocked in the U.S. as corny AF in their heyday while the rest of the world embraced them and made them the biggest selling group ever, but more recently Americans gave them more credit. Their very first hit is *WATERLOO* which won them the international Eurovision song festival. Still one of their best, and the rest is history! The hit movies Mama Mia and its sequel are based on their songs.
Not really. They were absolutely loved in the US, until the end of the disco era. There came a "disco is dead" movement, wherein it was suddenly no longer cool to like disco, so bands like ABBA and the Bee Gees went from adored to hated almost overnight.
@@BrindleChase "Absolutely loved" in the US? Nope. Their album sales were pathetic in America compared to the rest of the world. They were much maligned by both music critics and the public, although some people loved them.
*Muriel's Wedding* featured a few of their songs.
@@BrindleChase
Absolutely no
ABBA wasn't loved in U.S.
ABBA have some hits in U.S., but not in a continue sequence like ABBA have in Europe and the rest of the world
Some people loved ABBA in America, but most people secretly loved them and really didn’t want anyone to know, and it didn’t help that ABBA didn’t make many appearances here until this 1979 tour . I think they were more accepted as a disco group and kind of novelty, even though they did have many big pop hits on the charts, a lot of people mistakenly defined them only will Dancing Queen. I wish ABBA had been together during the 80’s MTV era, they would have been huge in America also then, because MTV helped so many artists from other countries have success here.
The Name "ABBA" is their first name initials combined; Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn, and Ani-Frid. They are from Sweden. 😄
Anna frid
@@Rathardican It's Anni-frid Lyngstad :)
‘Frida’ is actually from Norway 🇳🇴
@@collettegumbrell8854 She moved to Sweden as a toddler, and she insisted in a pretty recent interview, upon being called Norwegian, that she is Swedish.
@@EnergyCuddles ok!
These ladies... The sound of ANGELS singing !!! :):):)
The melding of the two females voices is simply magic. One of my favorite groups.
The harmonisation is just fabulous, it brings tears to my eyes
@@carolmorrison6075
I agree with both of you. The combination of a soprano, who powers the high notes, with a mezzo soprano, who gives depth to the sound, gives us that wonderful harmony.
Agnetha's voice is magical in this song
Frida's too...
@@Lisa-M:
It's always going to be like that. Even though the ABBA sound wouldn't be what it was without her supporting voice, the higher of the voices will always tend to be considered the lead and get more attention, both by virtue of being responsible for the outer voice, which is the melody that is heard in terms of psychoacoustics, and also because a high-pitched and powerful voice is considered an admirable quality in female singers.
@@hoon_sol I think it depends on someones ears. When Frida starts to sing in Chiquitita I almost only hear her voice. Maybe because I prefer lower voices like Frida's.
@@Lisa-M:
That's simply not true; it's just not how the human hearing apparatus is wired, which is the same for everyone. You can certainly make out her voice very easily, but you will always hear the melodic line of the harmony as Agnetha's voice on top, regardless of preference.
@@hoon_sol Don't tell me what I hear. I know it better than you because you are not in my head. And by the way all that has nothing to do with the fact that Frida's voice is as magical as Agnetha's. Of course the Agnetha fans don't want to admit that...
I grew up with all the fabulous music from the 60's - 80's. ABBA was one of my favorites. They had lots of hits & I owned many of their albums. I can't think of a bad song by them. Some of their best are "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme", "Thank You For The Music", "Does Your Mother Know?", "Waterloo", "Money, Money, Money", "The Name Of The Game", "Super Trouper", "I Have A Dream", "Voulez-Vous", "Fernando", "Chiquitita", "Take A Chance On Me", "Mamma Mia", "SOS", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Dancing Queen" etc.
"Chiquitita" means 'little girl' (with affection) in spanish And the melody have a spanish tune, specialy by the acustic guitar But the center is the wonderful piano, like akmost all ABBA songs
"Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with the blonde Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence (Agnetha is soprano, Anni Frid is mezzo soprano, and together blending together the 'Third Voice' of ABBA)
"Chiquitita" was composed especially for the Concert by UNICEF, invited (with a lot of artist) by Bee Gees
ABBA premiered "Chiquitita" that night in January 9 (1979), and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF
"Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following years ABBA recorded an album with its best songs entirely in Spanish
"Chiquitita" was specialy the greatest hit of ABBA in my country Argentina
"Chiquitita" is in the Top 3 of all ABBA worldwide biggest hits, with 'Dancing Queen" and "Fernando", and it's a fantastic Masterpiece
This is in the live concert of Wembley, London, November 1979
This video not included a second verse, the full song is more than five minutes
But in the audio of the album "ABBA live" it's sounds complete
I wish to see you soon in another reactions to ABBA songs
GOD bless you and stay safe
My best regards from Argentina
very little girl
"Fernando" is perfect for our current times....
Sweden's in the house! :) ABBA, Roxette, Europe, Ace of Base, Max Martin (the composer/producer of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N-sync, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift etc), and all our metal bands! We are the third biggest exporters of music in the world.
You can never go wrong with Abba! And there was no auto tune back then. These girls could sing the phonebook! Listen to One of us (kind of reggae breakup song), Fernando (awesome guitar feelgood song with a sad undertone) Gimme gimme gimme or Angel eyes for a disco vibe. The winner takes it all another gem to react to. They sold over 400 million records worldwide...
No auto tune crap pure talent
This and its Spanish version holds the title of the largest selling single in Latinamerica
ABBA were the 2nd biggest export from Sweden only car makers Volvo were bigger 🇸🇪
I believe lots of people have told you quite a few times in your earlier ABBA reactions haha. They're from Sweden.
Being kind of old, Swedish and more of a rock/punk girl; ABBA has a song for everyone. Some people doesn't like to admit it though 😉 Extremly talented artists and the harmonize are always flawless. Reminds me of growing up, family parties & an easygoing life!
Thanks for your reaction! Take care & saludos de España/Suecia 🇪🇸🇸🇪
It makes me feel good, when people from the modern generations appreciate the music that were our favorites long before they were even born.
Wikipedia says:"Chiquitita" proved to be one of ABBA's biggest hits. It was featured in a 1979 UNICEF charity event, the Music for UNICEF Concert, broadcast worldwide from the United Nations General Assembly. As a direct result of this event, ABBA donated half of all royalties from the song to UNICEF. "Chiquitita" hit No. 1 in Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Mexico, South Africa and Rhodesia, and was a Top 5 hit in ABBA's native Sweden, the United Kingdom (peaking at No. 2 in both countries where Blondie's "Heart of Glass" was occupying the top spot), Australia, West Germany and Norway, making it the most successful single from the Voulez-Vous album in terms of global charts and one of the most famous charity songs ever. To this day, 50% of the proceeds from the song go to UNICEF in recognition of the "International Year of the Child" in 1979. In 2014, all ABBA members agreed on donating 100% of the royalties from the song to UNICEF. As of 2021, the song's royalties have raised $4.8 million for the charity.
The GREATEST pop rock group ,EVER!

No question. I love everything they did. The group was a perfect mix of wonderful talents.🙋♂

¿Que versión la inglesa o la española?
My favorite Abba song is Fernando! Such a beautiful song!
love it to
I grew up with ABBA from their early beginning, since I am from Sweden. At that time I didn´t appreciate them, because I only listened to disco music. Well, I got older and wiser, and now I can see how great they were - and still are!
Abba consisted of 2 couples. Anni-Frid and Benny and Bjorn and Agnetha. Their initials made the groups name ABBA. When Bjorn and Agnetha divorced Bjorn wrote the song " The Winner Takes It All " which was sung by Agnetha. Makes the song all the more moving and heartfelt. Well worth a reaction video.
Thanks for reacting to our abba, greetings from abba country Sweden 🇸🇪
They had a very magical harmony. This band is from Sweden. The abba comes from the first letter of all the members of the group. The name chickaquita means young one. It’s a term of endearment. Usually used for older person to younger person. My mom loved this group. They have quite a few really good songs. Dancing queen, sos, Fernando , the winner takes it all. Just to name a few. I love how they all had very lovely voices on their own. But man together it’s just so great
I don't think there was a band that had as stunning a sense of Melody and harmony than ABBA did . They were MASTERS of Composition , and have created so many singable , memorable , and beautiful melodies.
You will never hear harmonies like this, unique.
The Mamas and The Papas
I had the privelage to meet this lady the blonde Agnetha Faltskog while on vacation in Stockholm,we were in the same restaurant class all the way,she signed an autograph and pictures.
I like your reaction to Chiquitita,
And if you want to know more about ABBA you can watch the youtube video "The History of ABBA"
I remember exactly what I was doing when I first heard this lol
GOOD memories!
They sang a lot of their songs in Spanish as well. They're Swedish, and yet sang in Spanish very, very well.
Love me some Abba. You should try Take a chance on me by ABBA
ABBA were massive in Spanish speaking countires and recoreded a while album of their hits in Spanish. ABBA came to fame by being the first group to win the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and Swedens first winners.
Thanks for the ABBA reaction. They are amazing. Take two great singers, who have great voices in their own right, and have then sing together to create something unique and magical. Then add two songwriters that create melodies that transcend time in their greatness and you have ABBA. Their songs are all classics. And their new stuff from last year continues the magic. Thanks again for all you do.
You guessed right, BJ. A chiquitita is actually a little girl.
One of my favorite songs by ABBA. Thanks.
ABBA from Sweden, the dark hair girl is from Norway originally, they are couples, Bjorn and agnetha(blonde singer and guitarist)married. They became famous around the world when they won the Eurovision song contest beginning of the 70,s. They have a new album now after oh heck 25 30 yrs? Even though they no longer married they have always stayed friends. Agnetha still has a lovely high voice at 75. Love abba.
ABBA = WORLDCLASS
Remember they are Swedish , broke out onto stage singling in English and reaching out to those who speaking Spanish . Referring to Chiquitita” who is a little girl in the Latin world . Like your little sister or baby cousin lol. Love you guys
Asia, you were thinking of 'Tequila!' at the beginning😅🙂
The Spanish version is awesome
Thanks for the ABBA. ABBA is a Swedish super group made up of two couples. Agnetha (blond, vocalist) & Bjorn (guitar, lyricist) - Benny (keyboards, composer) & Anni-Frid (dark hair, vocalist). The name is the first letters of their names. The band did happy pop songs in the beginning. As the couples began having troubles the songs grew more adult and heartbreaking. They finally just stopped in 1982 but reunited for an album this year (Voyage). About this song - 1979 was declared the year of the child by the UN. A concert for UNICEF was put on. ABBA performed "Chiquitita" (little girl/one) and setup for all profits from this song to fund UNICEF. It is one of their biggest sellers. They've always been just a complely magical group and their music just keeps selling stronger over the decades. Keep exploring them and you'll see why. Thanks again.
Hey beautiful famz💞 ABBA was played constantly in my home growing up...brings back awesome memories!!! Love it❤
🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪 ABBA is as Swedish as it gets! LOL 💙
Chiqiui-TICA sounds better 🤷♀️ lol. THX’s always loved ABBA’s harmonies! ♥️ y’all
Fun that you viewed the live version but if you listen to the studio version, it’s longer with at least 2 verses. The live was only one verse. Love this sweet song! ABBA is from Sweden. And love watching you two hearing my generation of music and getting your perspective on the sounds I grew up on. All the best to you.
Love you guys! How about some Jinjer in support of the band and Ukraine? Cheers. #SupportUkraine
They sing in Swedish, Spanish and English.
and in german and french
You would never know that their main language was not English. They are from Sweden. They were multi linguistic. Another thing about the girls is their "vibrato" was almost identical which helped in their voices blending together to become so very iconic. Agnetha (pronounced: Ag-net-Ha) was a soprano, while Anna-Frid (Frida) was a Mezzo Soprano which is one step lower than the soprano. Their voices are so identifiable as soon as you hear them, you know who it is!
ABBA: first initial of each members first name.
Greetings from Uruguay, South America. I congratulate you for reacting to the music that marked my youth and I follow you every day. I feel like part of my family. Greetings.

I think that you know that ABBA comes back after 40 years with a new album Voyage released in last November 2021 that is a worldwide success Now in 2021/2022
You could listen and react the new songs
"I still have faith in You" have an official video, it's a ballad with a story about Themselves
"Don't shut me down" is a masterpiece uptempo song like 40 years before
And in the rest of the songs the ladies Agnetha & Frida still looks amazing and fantastic singing at your 70s years now
The ages of all ABBA members now is:
71 Agnetha (blonde singer)
75 Benny (pianist songwriter)
76 Björn (guitarist songwriter)
76 A.Frida (brunette singer)
remember that ABBA is a swedish group, their name is an acronim with the initials of their first names
ABBA was two couples too:
Agnetha & Björn (1969-end 1978)
Anni Frida & Benny (1969-begin 1981)
ABBA recording more than 20 worldwide hits between 1972/1982, and just comeback last 2021 with a new album recorded between 2017/2021
REMBER EVERY BODY THIS WAS LIVE RELEASED IN APRIL 1979
@@theodoreritola7641 I do not understand what your comment refers to, because it is wrong
ABBA premiere "Chiquitita" on January 9, 1979 at the Concert for UNICEF in the United States
all what ABBA did in April 1979 was film two of their official song promotion videos:
"Voulez Vous" &
"Does your mother know"
And this video is from North America and Europe tour in September/November 1979
so the date you vited does not coincide with any presentation of ABBA with "Chiquitita"

I was a teenager in ABBA's heyday, and back then it wasn't "cool" for a young man to like ABBA, but we all did, and we never told each other. It's really very heartwarming to see young people discovering them more than forty years later and clearly loving it. To the lady presenting... your smile is as joyful as the music itself. Thanks for letting us old boys know we were cool after all. x
Hello from Sweden 👋 Love your reactions. ABBA is from Sweden. 😊
8:15 You're right. "Chiquitita" is something like "dear little girl". ◙ Eu não vivo em um país onde se fala espanhol, mas estou certo quanto ao significado dessa palavra.
That's right. It means a familiar little girl.
@@leonardovillegas1119 Obrigado !!!
Why is the video you're watching almost invisible to us???? Please fix this bad problem.
They are from Sweden, ABBA are the initials of the 4 members of the group.
Beautiful song
The studio recording is absolutely stunning, you should check that one out!
Sweden is their homeland - check out Fernando if you haven't already !!!
Angelic voices.
I am Croatian, love this song. 20 years ago one older guy told me that Chiquitita in song is in fact PLANET EARTH, and that this song is written because of possible Nuclear War as a message for Soviets and Americans, and for entire humanity... that we as humans needs to bring back ourselves from destruction and destruction of Earth. And if you listen words of this song like that... it does have a lot of sense... you decide :). When I listen to this song imagining that song sings about that, it brings tears to my eyes. There :) :)
When something is art, you can find so many associations in it, and this IS art. Even more, we experience the same song differently as we grow older. I believe Chiquitita is dedicated to humans and to Earth, depending on your life experience. Anyway, it's a fantastic song!
ABBA is from Sweden🇸🇪❤ ABBA was appointed United Nations Children Ambassadors for a year in the seventies, wrote this song and all proceeds went/goes to the U.N. program for children in need all over the world. So you're so right, Chiquitita is a small girl, most likely in Latin America somewhere, broken by poverty, lack of education and everything a child should have the right to have.
Thank you for another great review🌷🌷🌷🌷
It's like an aria collided with a polka in Mexico. They are a Swedish group - three of the members are Swedish and the dark-haired female. Anni-Frid, is Norwegian. Because they're European, you catch a classical music underlying theme in a lot of their songs such as the aria-ske duet movements. But Chiquitita is my all-time favorite because it has such great dynamic sweeps in it.
They won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 for Sweden.
Both Agnetha Falkskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstadt (Agnetha the blonde) had separate professional singing careers before ABBA. This is a nice song to illustrate the unique merging of the two womens voices. You need to head down the ABBA rabbit hole to appreciate their compelling sound. Although both relationships failed (Bjorn with Agnetha and Anni with Benny), they continued performing together for quite some time after the seperations. 'The Winner Takes It All' is reminiscent of this period and one of their best songs. It is on YT.
the harmonies between Agnetha and Anni-Frid were simply perfect and impeccable.
Quality how they build from slow and low, to higher and faster and vice versa!
I recommend a song by Diana Navarro " sola" live in Salamanca. She is a very versatile singer with a very particular voice. She always transmits
I like your react to abba very much, they have a album in spanish with name oro Grandes exitos en espanol, very good,
It's always dangerous listening to an ABBA song because it always leads to a marathon session of more ABBA songs
This was an abbreviated version. They left out the whole second verse. Bummer!
They are swedish.
Thx ! But it's a shame this live version is shortened and the original version , precise on this live version. Really a has one more verse, richer arrangements in the voices, pianos, guitars are richer, precise, stronger in emotions on this live version. Really a shame😉
Chiquitita (little child) by ABBA, one of the prettiest songs about love giving a hand up to a little soul feeling extreme hopelessness, rejection and unbearable heartfelt sorrow. No matter how bad the times, or lack of hope, I am here for you dear. We move forward - togetherness.
I wouldnt be surprised if you have heard a part of Abba song somewhere withouth being aware that it is a Abba song. As other commenters have said Abba is one of the biggest bands out there even if they broke up in the 1980´s. Though recently they actually made a new album.
I think this may have been written to tell the daughter of Agnetha and Bjorn that everything would be ok after their separation
before autotune perverted the music industry
You were thinking of Tequila!
Chiquitita had number of working titles, one of them being In the arms of Rosalita, and was influenced by El Condor Pasa, performed by Simon & Garfunkel. It was first performed in a concert for UNISEF, and Abba agreed to donate half of the royalties, until after 2014 they have given 100% and till 2021 have raised almost five million dollars to the charity.
Please react to Does your mother know / Hole in your soul from the same Wembley concert 1979 and I`m a marionette from The Album.
ABBA has so many great hits! Fernando, SOS, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Take A Chance On Me, Happy New Year, Mamma Mia, Knowing Me Knowing You, Super Trouper, Money Money Money, I Have A Dream, Lay All Your Love On Me, Voulez-Vous and many more. Agnetha and Frida have also sung in Spanish.
AbbA is now cool to listen to this was not allways the case but the thing that is true and constant about AbbA is they have never made a bad song .. everything they do is pure gold !
Love ABBA!!
This never gets old!

What a beautiful voice Agnetha has
A great song but unfortunately on this version only one verse was played.
"Dancing Queen" gets everyone up and dancing. Check it out
Lot's of disco and pop classics as well as some unique sounding hits.
Great band, actually the 3rd best selling singles of all time behind The Beatles and Queen (They had over a dozen hit singles) and yes they incorporated every style of music from around the World (more especially Europe) into their music.
"Name of the game" probably best sums up ABBA in one record.
I love this group the hamonys and their lyrics
It's so heart warming to see yet another generation appreciating ABBA. Brilliant.
GREAT SONG!!!
They are from Sweden
Anytime you listen to ABBA you probably want their studio versions because they really excelled in the studio. This is a rather fine version of their live work though. I love metal, rock, classical and I love ABBA.
From The Live Show at Wembley, Do more songs from that concert! You are right! This song also exists in Spanish, listen to that too. Thanks from Sweden
Can’t tell the difference between the studio version or this live version. Beautiful indeed.😎
The studio version had a lot of baroque/Bachian counterpoint in the choruses. Couldn't do it on stage because on the record both girls are singing two parts. The stage version is a bit freer timing-wise because they didn't have to synchronise with themselves.
🙂👍👍👍 love this song! Thanks for reacting to it! Another Swedish singer/artist is Jonna Jinton. Check out the Nordic Wolf Lullaby song on her YT channel. Be well and God bless you!
Sooo fucking good live.
