I absolutely love Abba, and this is my favorite song by them. When I was a shift supervisor at our 911 center, and my shift would be feeling down from bad calls or after a particularly really bad call, I would blast this song as loud as I could. Lol. All my dispatchers were under 30, didn't know Abba, and would always groan and roll their eyes. BUT, it lifted the mood and we all could move on from the bad feelings to face the next bad call.

ABBA is a Swedish pop group, the best, most versatile and most important group of the 70s, in the post BEATLES decade (the revolutionary group of the 60s)
ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, was a musical and cultural phenomenon, and its legacy lives on
ABBA is an acrostic with initials of their first names
    They was two couples:
    Agnetha (blonde lead vocal) &
    Björn (guitarist songwriter)
    Benny (pianist songwriter) &
    Anni Frid (brunette lead vocal)
(both couples separated before the end of the group)
ABBA recording between 1972/1982, have a wonderful series of more than 20 worldwide hits included:
    Waterloo
    S.O.S.
    Mamma Mia
    Fernando
    Dancing Queen
    Knowing me knowing you
    Take a chance on me
    Chiquitita
    Does your mother know
    The winner takes it all
    Super trouper
    And after almost ¡40 years!...
ABBA return to studio and recording a full new álbum Voyage that was released in last November 2021 and is a worldwide succes now
And in last May 2022 they all four asist to the premier of the new Voyage Concerts in the new ABBA Arena at London, with more than 1.000.000 visitors at their virtual concerts, with tickets on sale to May 2024
The ages of ABBA members are:
    73 Agnetha
    78 Björn
    76 Benny
    77 Anni Frid

They recorded their first album phonetically (by syllables), before learning much English. Not knowing if they'd have an English language hit song, they also recorded the album with Spanish language. Both versions proved popular so ABBA was a true international sensation.
This phonetic pronunciation led to simple lyrics with great diction. I suspect ABBA influenced other disco-era artists to enunciate more clearly.

I think you have a confusion
The four members of ABBA know English, because they learned it in their schools
And they sang in English, with an understanding of what they were saying, keeping their Swedish accent.
(acknowledging that the ladies had a harder time expressing themselves fluently in English)
What they did record phonetically was probably the French version of Waterloo (I don't think the German one, because most of them knew German)
And much later the songs in Spanish, since 1979, which was done with the help of a Spanish journalist for phonetics, and which they included in their last three albums and in the album entirely in Spanish "Gracias por la musica" (1980).

The imperfections in the choreo are really the salt in the soup! You can see they are dancing in like a planned style, but always improvize a little so they both never look equal - like a real dancing queen would never dance like trained, but what the soul wants to express. "Perfect imperfection"

    "Dancing Queen" (1976)
is a beautiful song, a fantastic Masterpiece,
which shines in the loftiness of its vocal harmonies
the blonde singer Agnetha is soprano voice,
the brunette singer Frida is mezzo soprano voice,
and blending together made the famous and fantastic 'third voice of ABBA'
And the music is bright and enveloping,
from the initial chord it introduces you into the atmosphere of the disco
    and invites you to dance
English public has voted it as one of the songs they want to hear the most,
because of the feeling of joy and energy it gives them (another is "Don't stop me now" by Queen)
And in 2015 "Dancing Queen" was included in the Hall of Fame of Grammys awards music
ABBA begin to be famous in 1974, when They won the Eurovision Song Contest in UK
    with their iconic song "Waterloo"
these is the link of the live perfomance, that I suggest you to a next reaction

The first vinyl that I ever ever bought was in fourth grade at a yard sale across the street. I bought two worn-out singles with no jackets on them for a penny a piece. One was the Beatles Yellow Submarine with Eleanor Rigby on side B, and the second one was ABBA SOS. I was so addicted to that song, and even today I could hear it over and over and loved every second of it. I learned how to play the piano part really quickly. It's not like it's complicated or anything but I like everything about that song, including the wall of rock guitar sound when it really kicks in.
They are Swedish and we're such a phenomenon over here after SOS. Apparently in the early days, they had to learn to sing their English lyrics phonetically, because they didn't have all that great of a grasp on English. Although I do believe that changed at some point.

ABBA is so good ... one of the most consistently good bands out there. So fun fact, ABBA won the Eurovision song contest with "Waterloo" (which is a banger as well) for Sweden in 1974 and Sweden will be hosting the contest in 2024, which is exactly 50 years after that win. They are also one of the few winners of the contest to have broader success after the contest.

ABBA ruled second half the 1970s world-wide. They hit the scene in the European music competition which Sweden's entry never wins! Each of their songs are different, but always excel in harmony, orchestration. The Mama Mia (another of their many hits) revived their dominance in this century, first on Broadway, then in two movie hits. There was also an Australian-made worldwide hit movie based around this specific song. The men each had brief marriages with the two women, and their breakups made for more reflective hit songs.

Abba had huge success in Europe. And for good reason. Their harmonies and production on their records made for 1st rate pop singles. This was their masterpiece and can rank up there with the best (Including Beatles, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, etc. etc.) Young teen girls need music for themselves, and Abba provided it)

To say that they were huge would be a massive understatement. They were THE group... even knocking out The Bee Gees in their time. One of the earlier comments listed a fair start at getting to know ABBA as a group, but (in my opinion, knowing how into the vocals you get) if you want to hear that incredible vocal talent, there are two songs that are "must hear" and those are "Fernando" and "Chiquitita". Soft, mellow, fluid vocal harmony that seems to just make you float. I seriously hope that you react to at least one of these, if not both. I would love to watch your eyes light up as you hear them. This group is truly one of a kind and you have a very deep rabbit hole to explore here. Enjoy

Frida red hair is the Dancing QUEEN! Song was written for her, she a lower octave than the other blonde singer! She little more outgoing in this group. But the blonde is usually the one people focus on...❤❤❤❤❤ all of them, and music. MORE ABBA!

I’m a Swede and was 10 yro when this song and the ”Arrival” LP was released. Soooo many songs that I think you’ll love. Like ”The name of the game.” Fantastic duo, (A)gneta [Angnehta] and (A)nne-Frid.
😮(B)jörn and (B)enny wrote all their music. ABBA

Being a Swedish pop group, ABBA was usually a bit out of step with what was cool in the US at the time, even though they were international super stars and musical geniuses. Their videos and live performances were a bit cringy and cheesy, but I have all nine of their albums, and their music is the sound of joy to me. I have have listened to it for 45 years and am not tired of it.

"...a bit out of step with what was cool in the US ...". They didn't care particularly about the US is what it was. They were even offered an enormous (for the time) sum of money to make an extensive tour of the US but they turned it down as they felt it wasn't worth it. As for the videos, they were among the first ones to make them - of course they make us (and them?) cringe today, almost 50 years later.

Well, my dear, that was the DISCO time... that's how people danced. We danced disco fox, bump, huzzler and other dances that spilled over from the USA. I've been moving for years from Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night dancing to "Black Soul", Funk, Groove; my favorite music was from the Tamla Motown label - my heroes Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations, The Supremes, Jr. Walker and the Allstars, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops and especially Barry White. I grew up with it - I still love it today (I'm 72 years old now - back then I was still young and pretty, today I'm just "and") and an absolute music freak.
I also watch your videos/reactions regularly - always fun...

OMG you're going down the ABBA rabbit hole! Can't go wrong. They were huge and i mean HUGE In the 70s and 80s. They've sold over 400 million records. Only the Beatles have sold more. They are 2 married couples from Sweden. The Auburn haired girl is Anni-Frid aka Frida or Annie and married to the pianist Benny. The blonde haired girl is Agnetha and she married the guitarist Bjorn. That's how they got their name ABBA, initials of their first names. No body harmonizes like Agnetha and Frida! Please do more. Try "Fernando" Voules Vous" "Chiquitita " great songs
