They are a Swedish band Abba. But they have taken that song in different languages. MY FAMILY WAS FROM Finland and in Finnish is changed to dancing princess lol so cool to have it change that way
I cannot stress how much my mom & dad played ABBA 'round the house with this tune stuck in my head, especially after my sister was born! Slipping Through My Fingers next!
We're in 2023 and still tapping our feet and singing along. Imagine how big it was when it came out, with people rushing to the dancefloor or turning the volume of the car radio to 11 :) This was 47 years ago. Man did they know how to write a great pop song. Dancing Queen and Stayin' Alive have to be 2 of the top 3 disco songs of all time.
In 2007 I took my wife to London…..her first time. We saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. The Royal band played Dancing Queen. It was wonderful… and obviously came as a Shocking surprise.
Its far from unknown for Dancing Queen to be played by whichever forces band "has the duty" at the daily Changing of the Guard ceremonyin the outer courtyard of the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
Gotta do _The Winner Takes it All_ next. ABBA were a gargantuan hit machine. There's a reason why _Mamma Mia!_ has been such a huge hit on the West End/Broadway, and in films. ABBA is for everyone, young and old.
Very fun. Glad you liked it. The hit that put them on the map was "Waterloo," which won the Eurovision song contest in the 70s. You should check that song out.
I was raised on classic rock, hard rock and heavy metal but there is something about ABBA that I can’t shake. Their music is infectious! You can’t help but dance when you hear this. They are my guilty pleasure 👍❤️
I graduated High School in ‘76 and this is as fresh sounding now as it was then. S.O.S. is still my favorite, especially their live performance on Saturday Night Live.
The song that sparked a lifelong love of music in me when I first heard it when I was ten years old. Simply gorgeous. Two of the purest, most beautiful singing voices in music history. You must listen to ABBA's The Winner Takes It All and SOS next. As good or better than Dancing Queen.

Maybe one day Cash Jordan will be Sweden's best product. Course he was born in New York but he is the funniest non -comedian ever on RUclips. Back to Abba, they're ok. Ikea, not bad idea. Ingemar Johansson, aannh! Floyd Patterson took care of him. Ingrid Bergman, gorgeous!! "Here's looking at you, kid!" I don't have a SAAB story, sorry!
My friends and I were those 17 yo dancing queens in the clubs of CT and NY every weekend. Brings back great memories and STILL makes me move immediately. Ahhhh, the memories.
As a heavyrock fan I can still appreciate ABBA because they were the best in the world and they produced so many classic instantly recognisable songs .
That big sound, reminds me of the "wall of sound" effect many big bands of the 60s, thrived on. Agnetha and Frida, are so underrated as singers these ladies are legends in their own right.
I remember watching a documentary on Abba where they played the instrumental of Dancing Queen and I didn't realise how beautiful the song was until then
You are not wrong.. Someone said that Abba is like art and science come together. They had 9 (!) UK number ones, and 19 hits on the top 10 back in the day.
ABBA were my first concert ever!! I was nearly 15 and they were my favourite band (next to Queen) and I was lucky enough to get to meet them and even kiss Anna on the cheek!! I still have the signed album and tour program. Dancing Queen naturally was a highlight of the show! ABBA were MASSIVE in Australia at the time. Beatlemania massive. The Sydney Morning Herald headline the day they landed in Australia for the tour was simply "THEYRE HERE" because everyone knew who they were. They had 3 songs in the top 10 at that time. There were ABBA records, tshirts, socks, tea towels, pillowcases, dolls, bubblegum cards etc etc. Transfers in the big daily newspapers. Everyone wanted in on the action. Fernando had been number 1 for 14 weeks at a time when that was a BIG deal. At the time they estimated 1 in 4 Australian households had a copy of The Best Of ABBA and ARRIVAL (which had Dancing Queen and Fernando). 46 years later they are as big as ever - except the US has finally caught on :) So glad you loved the immaculate songcraft of Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus and the delicious vocals of Agnetha Faltskog and Anna-Frid Lyngstad. Theres lots more where that came from. Try Knowing Me, Knowing You or SOS or Winner Takes It All for a start. Have fun guys! :)
@@scottboswell6406 oh absolutely. I own it on DVD and also Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Both of which were part of the rebirth of ABBA in the 90s. Great movies
Something I recently learned: Abba's first public performance of this song was at the wedding of the young soon-to-be Queen of Sweden. You can find the video. Ad the end they bow to the royal couple and they are just delighted.
ABBA and Donna Summer were my favorite groups growing up in the 1970s. "Dancing Queen" is truly a timeless classic and works nearly as well today as it did in the mid-seventies. ABBA created catchy pop-disco songs that were melodic, inspired, gorgeous melodies and the ladies voices sound pristine. They had a number of hits in the '70s mostly, and some in the '80s. They were hugely popular if I recall, but it kind of snuck up on us over the years how solid their music was that they had such staying power even decades later.
When Cory Taylor from Slipknot was asked about his guilty pleasures he replied “ I don’t have any guilty pleasures, I listen to everything from Abba to Anthrax”

I took pleasure from listening to them and loving them, feeling no guilt, not caring who knew, not giving a s**t who might disapprove.
Roxette,Secret Service,Cardigans,Europe and Jussi Björling and so on
LOVE the big PWISH of the opened hi-hats on this song on 4 of basically every other bar in the verses. This is FOR SURE their signature piece. Love it.
Forget S tier song, ABBA is an S tier group.
You guys are finally realizing what radio was like in the 70s...classic rock, wichita lineman, margaritaville, dancing queen...all day long, everyone loving it all. Now you need to hit the Spinners!
My favorite ABBA song!
There is a video out there that Richie Blackmore and Cozy Powell - both members of the hard rock group Rainbow - secretly LOVED ABBA.
The Bass line tho. OMG. Great reaction!
One of the most memorable songs in history, and one of a new select few to start off with the chorus...genius!
This song is one of the best things about life.
Lovin your reactions gentlemen. Thank you from New Zealand.
This song - and your reaction to it - just makes me giddy! Thank y'all so much. 🙂❤
I was one of those who couldn’t admit that I liked their music! For the record, I’m over it now! 😂
ABBA is eternal.
this song will live as one the the BEST songs EVER....
By far the best Song in Pop-History
Their pop sensibilities are second to none.. What a classic! Dancing Queen will outlive us all
Hearing ABBA in a
Commercial or sampled is a rare thing
I think they turn down 99,99% of all request they get, and they get "a few" every day
In 2007 I took my wife to London…..her first time.
Yes! S.O.S. is my top pick, too! 👌
I thought every college student would have heard this song a million times at parties.
The song that sparked a lifelong love of music in me when I first heard it when I was ten years old. Simply gorgeous. Two of the purest, most beautiful singing voices in music history. You must listen to ABBA's The Winner Takes It All and SOS next. As good or better than Dancing Queen.
Yep. "SOS" is a song so good that Pete Townshend, of all people, raved about it to anyone who would listen when it was released.
Incredibly great pop dance recording. Listening for decades, and I always hear musical surprises. I can’t really dance but this makes me want to fly.
Maybe the best pop tune chorus ever written
Back in the days, late 70s, early 80s if you wanna date any girl from high school you must know Abba and must like this song. Girls just loved it.
I don’t think I’ve seen you two enjoy a song more. Lol. ❤
Watch them do Earth Wind and Fire… Let’s Groove And CCR Born On A Bayou. They loved those also. Rewatch all the time. 😊
@@dianegoldeneye7207 @Christine Waide Someday, I hope someone does a compilation of, say, the Top 10 greatest A&A reactions ever. There would be some debate, of course, but it would be a fun debate to have.
Alex was BOPPING around so much he had to give it an S
This was such a feel good moment.
@@dianegoldeneye7207 Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp is their video I return to most. "Orange Slice!"
ABBA Gold is always in the top ten of all-time best selling compilation albums.
I just want to let you guys know that I wait on the days you're dropping these reactions to listen in the car on the way home from work. You literally took me out of my seat and I was floating while listening to you experience this definitive ABBA song. There aren't too many songs that feel like the first time each time you listen, but this is surely one of them. My heart still swells, every time. Here's to being 17 forever. 💃❤
Beautifully written. Captures exactly what I was feeling.
Watching you two totally gushing over an ABBA song just made my day. Hysterical. But you're right - S-Tier all the way.
Loved Alex getting his disco groove on. Thanks guys ! This made me smile !
You make me smile. The joyfulness of your reaction reflects the joyfulness of the music. Sheer happiness. This takes me back to the late 70s, twirling around in my grandmother’s living room.
Fun fact: Abba remains Sweden’s highest grossing export to this day!
Don't know if they will ever be eclipsed by Ghost, seems unlikely, but another great Swedish export nonetheless.
Not true!! SAAB are.. abba are 2nd...
"Here's looking at you, kid!"
I don't have a SAAB story, sorry!
Takes me back to 1977 bowling alleys and all things 70s, so great
To me the best part of this song is the triumphant piano chords during the dancing queen section. Plus the singing!
I remember watching a documentary on Abba where they played the instrumental of Dancing Queen and I didn't realise how beautiful the song was until then
Benny tells the story that when he played the instrumental track for Frida, she cried because it was so beautiful.
46 years later they are as big as ever - except the US has finally caught on :)
So glad you loved the immaculate songcraft of Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus and the delicious vocals of Agnetha Faltskog and Anna-Frid Lyngstad. Theres lots more where that came from. Try Knowing Me, Knowing You or SOS or Winner Takes It All for a start. Have fun guys! :)
Have you seen "Muriel's Wedding"? You must have!
This song NEVER gets old. 🎶🎼💙👸
A really solid song that shows not all the disco back then fluff. Well written, well produced and well executed.
This song was performed by ABBA live for the first time in a concert for The swedish king and queens wedding in 1976.
Abba had range. If you want to hear something darker from them, check out 'The Visitors'.
This song is the majestic haunting opener to their mindblowing VOYAGE gigs in London.Over 1 million tickets sold btw.
When Cory Taylor from Slipknot was asked about his guilty pleasures he replied “ I don’t have any guilty pleasures, I listen to everything from Abba to Anthrax”
Yes indeed. And in a late 2021 interview in The New York times he even citied 'Take a chance on me' as a fave Abba song and went far more than this by explaining their genuis using some very admirable comments.
Oh so good. One of the greatest pop songs in history. Inarguably S tier.
Thanks. On a related note, great songs can be successfully made cross-genre. I once heard the great Dwight Yoakam claim this--on an npr interview I believe--and broke out with his guitar on air with a killer country-rockabilly style version of this song. It was so cool.
Thanks a lot. Iconic and addictive song. According to Bjork, this is the perfect pop song ever.
