This was ABBA's only # 1 hit in the U.S. according to Billboards Hot 100. World wide ABBA had 21 # 1 hits. Fun fact, when Bjorn, the guy playing the guitar, first wrote the lyrics to this song, he wrote that age of the dancing queen as 15. When his wife Agneta, the blond lady singing, saw it she told him that 15 was to young and he should change the age of the dancing queen to 17, which he did. Agnetha was an accomplished songwriter herself with a self penned song that went to # 1 in her native Sweden.

Abba had 19 top 10 hits in the UK of which 9 of them went to no.1 . In the US they had 14 top 40 hits . One of my favs is " Does your mother know ? " .

Hello gays Nice to see you
This is ABBA, the excellent Swedish pop group, the best, most versatile and most important group of the 70s, in the post BEATLES decade (the revolutionary group of the 60s)
ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, was a musical and cultural phenomenon, and its legacy lives on
ABBA is an acrostic with initials of their first names
    They was two couples:
Agnetha (blonde lead vocal) with Björn (guitarist and songwriter)
Benny (pianist and songwriter) with Anni Frid (brunette lead vocal)
(both couples separated before the end of the group)
"Dancing Queen" is a beautiful song, which shines in the loftiness of its vocal harmonies
The boys achieved here an extraordinary work of Agnetha (soprano voice) and Anni Frid (mezzo soprano voice), each one gives its best effort to match the other (Anni Frid rises in the highs, Agnetha lowers more to the bass) and thus their combined voves achieve records of perfection
And the music is bright and enveloping, from the initial chord it introduces you into the atmosphere of the disco and invites you to dance
English public has voted it as one of the songs they want to hear the most, because of the feeling of joy and energy it gives them (another is "Don't stop me now" by Queen)
ABBA recording between 1972/1982, have a wonderful series of more than 20 world hits and no less than 50 other great songs included:
    Waterloo
    S.O.S.
    Mamma Mia
    Fernando
    Dancing Queen
    Knowing me knowing you
    Take a chance on me
    Chiquitita
    Does your mother know
    The winner takes it all
    Super trouper
    I suggest you to reaction:
"Waterloo" at Eurovision Song Contest in England 1974
    (their first international hit):
    ruclips.net/video/3FsVeMz1F5c/видео.html
Thank you very much for reading me
I hope to continue seeing your reactions
    GOD bless you
    my regards from Argentina

@@martyslazenger935 Yeah. I like ABBA but let's not get carried away. There were a ton of rock bands in the 70's who were far superior in musicianship, songwriting, and performing. ABBA was a fun pop/disco group and when I worked as a Wedding DJ, I loved their music, because it got people onto the dance floor. But it wasn't exactly very deep.

@@martyslazenger935 They sold more records in the 70s world wide than anyone. They are third all time following the Beatles and Elvis, for total albums sold. They may have passed them by now, with the stage play Mamma Mia, and the movie of the same. They're still popular, even though they only lasted until the early 1980s.

    • @Tom_McMurtry
      @Tom_McMurtry 3 года назад +1

@@Lewis9709 Honestly check out their 8 albums. The music does get very deep - both lyrically and how it was developed instrumentally/musically. First two albums are fun, but not the masterpieces their latter albums ended up being. There's that and there's also the situation where they somehow managed to produce 50 odd great songs (and 22 number 1 hits) with most of the rest being good. No poor ones.
Secondly check out "Does your mother know" leading onto "Hole in your soul" live at wembley for a taste of how good they could perform live. Or "So long" from their earlier years. It was hard for them to perform live without a load of back up singers and doubling up on instruments however because they did do so much work in the studio perfecting their sound and layering vocals, melodies and harmonies.

Yeah, I admit that they were a guilty pleasure favorite of mine back in the day. I actually still have all their albums. By the way, the name of the group is ABBA (all capital letters), not Abba. It's an acronym for their first names, Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny & Anni-frid. They were two married couples (Agnetha & Bjorn and Benny & Anni-frid) from Sweden who won an international European singing contest and went on to HUGE careers in the 70s and early 80s. They spoke no English at the beginning of their careers, performing English songs phonetically, but all four learned English within a year or two. Both couples ended up divorcing by the early 80s, but they continued to work as a quartet for a while, often writing songs that included what they were going thru in their personal lives in the lyrics. Finally, they broke up when Benny & Bjorn (who wrote most of the songs) left to begin a very successful career writing movie scores and stage musicals together. Anni-frid (who mostly went by her nickname Frida) later ended up marrying a prince and became royalty!

The amazing thing about the 60s 70s is this , even the hard rockers / metal heads liked soft rock / blues . We could be driving down the highway and Abba would play and next thing deep purple was playing same station , or Lou Rawls , Barry White , BTO . IF you like music that's all that matters
