I remembered her voice live from show in Prague. She has very metal-friendly colour very different from studio. And that's great, because every her song sounds very new when she performs on stage
Me too, it’s definitely my favorite song (and video) of all time! Jim Steinman could write some fucking songs! I loved this album, and her next one (which is at least as good)!
I can’t describe what a huge, epic ballad-and hit-this was in the 80s. Seriously surprised y’all haven’t heard this just randomly somewhere- in a TV show, on the radio...somewhere.
In 1983, when I started dating my husband, this song was HOT! For months, when we would enter a store, this song would be playing. When my hubby would drive across the state to visit me, every time he had to find a new radio station, this song would be playing! It quickly became "our" song. My hubby plays this at least once a week for me. The past 6 weeks, I've been home recuperating from surgery and he plays this almost every afternoon. I truly loved watching you react to this very special song!
The ultimate 80s power ballad, written by Jim Steinman and belted out by our Bonnie (Swansea boy here, I live 5 minutes up the road from her) with her unique voice
I was 7 years old when this came out, and I still remember the feeling it gave me listening to it. It made me realize the power and effect music can have over someone.
My fave Bonnie Tyler is Holdin Out for a Hero. Feels like you've been captured by a villain and you're racing through the streets of some city in the middle of the night while your handsome, strong lover is on your tail, coming to rescue you from the bad guy. You can feel all of that just by listening to that song. It's a whole vibe.
I absolutely loved Bonnie Tyler from the first time hearing her sing It's a Heartache & I'm still a fan at the age of 56 years old, she was magnificent then & she's still magnificent now!! 💜💯
Thank God for the 80’s, it was a time where artist took risks in exploring different sounds in their music and songs! If it wasn’t for the 80’s, I truly believe we wouldn’t have good music these days
This song runs the gamut on emotions. We are puppets and Jim and Bonnie are pulling the strings. This is his magnum oous. Truly a modern master of exciting, passionate, dramatic compositions.
This song was huge when it was released, the husky tone to her voice happened as a result of vocal surgery that didn't go to plan. She also duetted with meatloaf. Jim Steinman is the guy who wrote this song as well as a lot of meatloaf's hits, and he died only yesterday so finding this now makes me want to revisit all his back catalogue and you should too as there are some great songs in it.
Bonnie Tyler hit #1 multiple times since 1983 when she first released this song. In April 2024 this song became the second most watched video of all time.
Fell in love with Bonnie Tylor’s voice the first time I heard her sing! The rasp in her voice with her songs always takes me to a very happy place! The rasp in her voice is just awesome!

This is a “Vampire love song”. That’s why the lyrics create images that seem abstract; but they’re just simple and descriptive. She’s singing about her “love in the dark”, since her vampire lover, “Bright Eyes” (his eyes glow!), can never be in the daylight, so she lives by night, too. However, she, the singer, is still human, even though she’s been with the vampire (who doesn’t get old) for such a long time, that she’s starting to grow old. So the story of the song, is that tonight she’s decided to surrender to the vampire (drink his blood or whatever) to become a vampire, too; and never age further, nor ever die. “Forever starts tonight !” Creepy. I always thought it was a song that was metaphor for something that’s hard to understand. But once I realized that the storyline was a vampire story, then it’s clear that the lyrics are simple prose (but creepy). When the song was first recorded, my teenage daughter and her friends, used to sing this ALL THE TIME ! I was concerned that it might be a “suicide story”; and not good for them to be so obsessed with ! So, I put some effort into understanding the lyrics. I was very relieved to figure out that it was just another monster fantasy. Romantic vampire stories were very popular, back then.
That was an amazing reaction, guys. Since I've grew up on this I didn't even felt it was anything special because heard it too many times, but you hearing it for the first time was amazing to see. This is why I watch reaction videos. Hugs from Sweden.
I'm always late, but this was her biggest hit. Also,"Holding out for a Hero" was big from the movie "Footloose". "It's a Heartache", is her first hit in 1978 which is awesome because it's a country song and she's Welsh.
Thanks for your reaction to this legendary song! Bonnie Tyler does a great job on this fantastic Jim Steinman song, the same guy who wrote all the Meatloaf hits! He also wrote "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" for Air Supply, a song the pair of you should get to some day! Peace!
my misses was sat next to her on a plane going to portugal a few years ago, she invited my misses to her villa. her sister used to live just over the road from us. beautiful voice.
Bonnie is from Wales and surgery on her vocal nodules gave her the voice that was described as "The Female Rod Stewart." I'm sure you roller skated to this song as this was her biggest hit here in the US, spending five weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart way back in 1983. Meatloaf wrote this track

Agreed
"It's A Heartache" is another one that's a must as well
One of the biggest power ballads in the 80s pure class
This song was gigantic. She has such a unique raspy voice. Wonderful. She also does another great song called."Its a Heartache" give it a listen
Great song✌
Great song, her breaktrough
I need a hero was the second biggest I believe
She also sang the song Holding In For a Hero, which was featured in the movie Top Gun.
My favourite by her, an amazing mixed of delicacy and powerful raw emotion
I've heard this song a million times, and it still brings tears to my eyes...

I absolutely love how music can reach into someone's heart and reduce them to tears

Jim Steinman passed away today.....*sigh*......thank you Jim for this and for everything else you gave us

@@65Bardy Sorry to say he's not. That is Rory Dodd.

A lot of young people might have only heard the tune with different words used for a dessert commercial.
Rory Dodd who sings the male part on this is a superb artist in his own right.
Right you are!! Love the first part the most because of that
I thought that was meatloaf
The look of respect on their faces when they heard Bonnie start to sing - brought tears to my eyes. Welcome to my generation.
