    For Pokémon games : n64 and transferpak would work great.
    My Yamaha AV receiver is a little older but has a scaler for outputs to hdmi and it includes the options for a video, component etc. if someone was looking at a switcher and various output adapters finding an av receiver would let them have all that plus power some speakers and more.

    Dude, you are awesome!
    I totally agree with you on using original controller layouts. I myself have doing it for years during the Wii era and thanks to a May flash adapter I can do that with the switch to.
    If I play a N64 game I want to use a N64/Gamecube controller with it, granted I got more used to the Gamecube for N64 because of the Wii Virtual Console, but I digress.
    I also am glad somebody appreciates the Game Boy player without just knocking it and complaining about such minor details. Unfortunately, I abandoned my Gamecube way back in the day once I had a Nintendo Wii. (Yes, I do regret it for nostalgia reasons)
    I actually was pressured into selling my Game Boy games by some punk who I thought was a friend when I was in school, so I lost a lot of original games during my youthy. :/
    I have resorted to emulators but, I play them on my Home-brewed Wii using either a NES or SNES controller to get the closest experience to the originals.

    Awesome video! I've been looking for something like this! Thank you for the informative video! I do have one question though. What do you use to stream the games off of? I usually use OBS for recording and streaming. Is there something else that you're using or do you also just stream and recorded from obs? And then just do the cropping of the GameCube borders and such?

I play with Rumble on the Pow Kiddy V90 after Etching and partitioning it with the Pocket Go Firmware Update. I used the Gameboy ROM Analyzer to change the cartridge type to 1EH and fix the header. It enables Rumble. Nushi Tsuri Adventure-Kite no Bouken English patch has Rumble as well. Great Games.

    Oh man, all the nostalgic feelings. I will always have a soft spot for Pokémon Red..That was my first intro to Pokémon other than the tv show and movies. My godmother who got the console for me, also got me ‘Britney’s Dance Beat!” Haha! I don’t think I ever completed it. She also off topic, got me my first Barbie as Britney Spears., and my first CD was ‘Oops I did it again!’ XD.... anyway, this set up is rad! I have tried the emulator and it is just not the same feeling. I was horrified and scared at entering caves to the point where I stopped playing Pokémon but as an adult, I think I want to give it another try.. just have to go through storage to find all of it again.

    You can also just put webcam or mobile phone on top of game boy and stream from there. Picture quality isn't of course as good as it would be from setup like on the video, but still reasonably good (I've streamed gb tetris like this for over a year) What might be problem there is that you need to keep console on your table, play with your fingers (instead of thumbs) and also you need to find good angle where the camera is on good angle, but also that you can see the screen and also you need to have reasonably good light. You could alternatively make setup where game boy attached somewhere where you could play with your thumbs. That's how it would be true og gameplay :D

    Hey there I had a question while currently making a setup similar to this. You recommended the RetroBit Prism, which I'm planning on getting, and the modded eBay memory cards to launch the Gameboy Player w/o the startup disk. On most of the Memory Cards you linked from eBay, in the description most of them say they only work with AV cables (red, yellow, white), but do you think this would be a problem with the RetroBit Prism since it is Digital AV Out? Anything helps, thanks in advance.

    • @JamesChats
      @JamesChats  2 года назад

      Oh this is a VERY interesting question. If I had the retrobit I would be able to tell you for sure. Since I already have the upscaler/s-video set up that I'm happy with I haven't been able to justify buying it. I never saw the fine print on the memory cards regarding only using the analog out. If you find a concrete answer please let me know!

    • @Jtmingus1
      @Jtmingus1 2 года назад

      @@JamesChats Hey guys, for the memory card you recommended, I actually bought the memory card. When setting up everything, it all worked into capturing the software into the Elgato program, in which it was completely chopped up. Do not try the hacked memory card with the RetroBit Prism, I'm currently waiting for my official gameboy player disc to arrive, and am sincerely hoping it captures the footage.

  • @n0lain
    @n0lain Год назад

    Is the RetroBit Prism guaranteed to work with the GBI memory card approach (as opposed to the OEM boot disc)? The eBay seller I used (the most popular one) said in the description it would only work with AV cables and not with something like the GCHD Mk II (upon messaging them to ask for clarification).
    Can anyone confirm whether or not this works?

    I have been wanting to play pokemon games on my channel with the real consoles and this answers my question about how to do this in a way that suits me. I was also looking at going down the modded console route but was thinking there had to be another way and I love this way far more. I don't have a gamecube but it something I would be happy to add to my collection of consoles I seem to have more Nintendo then anything else. I have the first wii with gamecube backwards compatibility so I am now wondering if I can possibly get it to work on that. Going to get the cable and try before I try and track down a gamecube.

      Funny story. This save file is from the first time I ever played a gen 2 game. I didn't know shiny Pokemon were a thing (I thought the Gyarados was just some special thing they added). This was the first Abra I encountered and caught. And because it barely looks different than it's non shiny counterpart I played the whole game not knowing it was shiny.
      The first shiny Pokemon I ever caught was a full member of my team and I didn't even realize it.

    All these accessories would cost lots of money. A cheaper solution would be the GB-Operator by Epilogue. It gives you a Game Boy like experience (except for the controller) as there isn't really anything bugging you on the screen unless you move your mouse. If you don't like using a keyboard, you can use a controller instead. Best of all, it's 100% legal. It costs $50.

    if you have a wii, you actually don't need to buy a memory card where its someone else jacking up the prices on someone elses effort to make the mod.
    Just copy the file on to an SD card and transfer it from your SD card to your Memory card, very easy to do with GCMM!
    I assume most people have a modded wii, but if you don't its very easy to do.
    Thanks for the capture advice!

    • @JamesChats
      @JamesChats  2 года назад

      The assumption that most people have a modded Wii is a bold one lol. Definitely a valid route, but not the route for me.
      Buying a blank memory card and an SD-GC memory card adapter, combined with the time invested in learning and performing the process (as easy as it may be) made paying someone a couple extra dollars for the convenience a no brainer imo.

      Yeah it's DEFINITELY not a cheap option. More of a luxury. I do consider it a multi functional purchase though since it's also a GameCube, and the upscaler can be used for basically all my retro stuff. So most of the purchases have uses outside of just Gameboy streaming.

      The effort is worth the "feel" in my opinion. An emulator can't adequately pull me into the period of time these games were released. It's like eating Sam's choice sandwich cookies instead of Oreos. It WORKS, but lacks that special quality. At least in my opinion.

    This seems like a crazy amount of work, when you can do this with an emulator and just pop in a controller. Sorry but $250+ or $0 and a lot less effort. Which do you think folks will choose?
    I get this guy is getting affiliate payouts and he's making a living off this video, but I'm in the internet of spending my own living wisely 😂
    Edit: For those who will shout PIRACY IS BAD. I never said pirate the games. You can buy a legal copy and own a version of the game before emulating. Then youre out of the "grey area". BOOM hundreds of dollars headaches saved.
