Great video. Correction; red, white and yellow RCA is not component video. Red and white is sound (left and right) while yellow is composite video (which is a low quality analogue video signal).
I finally managed to save up for all of these things and got them, although I am using OBS and there's no sound coming. I know you use streamlabs but I just have all my stuff here =( idk what to do. Fantastic video regardless that helped me alot
You should be able to adjust the volume of the capture card in the mixer in OBS. Although if I were you, I'd download SLOBS just to see if you can get it working there and troubleshoot why its not working in obs :)
@@CpawsMusic To be fair I am a new streamer and im not familiar with how like.."Tracks" work too. For the most part , I went to audio monitoring and thought that would help. Sorry if i sound silly. In slobs i wasnt able to pick up my audio, so far its only the elgato game capture software. I heard the elgato sound capture might play a role, unsure. Thank you for replying
@@jordiny3756 It could be a number of things, but yeah if you go into SLOBS and add the video input device source > capture card > then a new audio track should appear for the cap card in the mixer > then you can go into audio monitoring for that track and choose Monitor & Output so you should in theory be able to hear it :)
I can't say for certain but when I played way back when it wasn't anything too awful. But I'd recommend using that hdmi out cable and playing off the TV and not the USB game capture.
I have a prism hd adapter and plan on streaming my GameCube collection once I have an appropriate pc to stream on and I’m hoping that this all works the same way

I have a comment explaining why a lot of the information in the video is pretty bad, but plugging the prism into a capture card is far better than using composite cables into a converter made for DVD and VHS players, and plugging THAT into the capture card.
Is there any way to use a video capturer but still play on a crt? I suppose I would need to duplicate the video signal (one for the tv and one for the converter +capturer). Is there another way?
Yeah it's a little tricky with CRTs since the capture cards these days have HDMI passthrough and not RCA passthrough, so I'd imagine you'd have to duplicate the signal like you said :/
Do you know how to get the image from the older consoles to be the correct aspect ration? It looks like the image is being stretched to fit a 16:9 screen rather than the native 4:3.

If you still want an answer, you could adjust it in your streaming software. That said, instead of a converter like the one being used in the video, I recommend an actual upscaler made for retro consoles. A good place to get information on this is RetroRGB. They have information on upscalers, cables, aspect ratio's, specific consoles output, mods for visual output, and generally just a plethora of useful information.

I haven't done this in over a year so my memory is pretty hazy. But I'm pretty sure there is a setting in the elgato capture software that you can change it :)
I opened my streamlab and have the computer screen setup for my game system but my webcam just isn't showing up. I would click capture device for it but my webcam doesn't turn on. Is there a reason why?
@@chriswagner9542 So you can only have 1 instance of your webcam open at the same time. If OBS Studios is open and using it, then it won't show in Streamlabs OBS at the same time. If OBS is closed and it's still not showing. Try deleting the webcam source in SLOBS and open a new Video Capture Source > Choose Webcam > make sure it's on the top of your other sources. See if that helps!

So what if I don't want to upscale and just leave the video quality as it was originally intended? Do I just connect my PC straight to the TV and avoid all the upscaling hardware?
I think you can tweak with the quality settings in the elgato software, but you still need the retro adapter in order to capture the footage since you can't really connect a retro console to your pc directly via the component cables and you can't just plug in your tv into your pc and capture it that way.
If you're speedrunning, this method is awful. The frame perfect tricks you'll need to do for some games will basically be impossible with a VHS/DVD player converter like what he's using. I'd recommend an actual gaming upscaler such as a Retrotink product, OSSC, etc.

Use an actual retro gaming upscaler instead of the VHS/DVD player converter mentioned in this setup, and make sure to play using the passthrough HDMI instead of the preview in the streaming software if possible.
If you have or are investing in a 4k capture card, then I wouldn't cheap out on the upscaler. This is made for DVD and VHS players, not game consoles. For good info on retro gaming upscalers, google upscalers for retro game consoles and you'll find a lot of good stuff, but RetroRGB is probably the best source.

What's the input lag on this setup, seems like it has to pass through an awful lot of hardware before it even gets to the software side.

add a video capture device source (your webcam) in OBS / Streamlabs and make sure its above your gameplay source
