  • This is 9 Mistakes People Make When Moving To LA!! As someone who has been living in LA for a while now, I see people making a lot of the same mistakes I made when I first moved here, and so I thought I would share my lessons that I've learned. They are in no particular order!

    My biggest dream is to move in L.A in around 5 years.
    In five years i’m going to be 20.
    But i’m gonna have to wait for all the paper work since I would move from out of the country.
    I hope my dream will come true.
    And I wish everyone’s dream will come true in the comment section.

    Remember homeless people come to L.A. to be homeless. That's how awesome L.A. is...

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  6 лет назад +19

      It is warm for the most part, so it's definitely easier to be homeless here than in other parts of the country :)

    • @averythecoolcat

      That's not awesome, though. The homeless have become a nuisance and the city does almost nothing to help them. 😑

    AND my tidbit on apartment hunting in LA. If you are planning, you must SEARCH for those hidden gems. I stay in Baldwin Hills in a one bedroom and I only pay $1170. The cons with a lot of apartments here is central A/C. I know people who live in Inglewood, so there are nice spots there. I won’t really recommend staying downtown UNLESS your complex comes with a garage or secured parking. Look in the valley like most people. Happy hunting.

      You gotta think about the additional car costs, which include payments, fuel and maintenance. Also, there's a lot of peer pressure to upgrade to a luxury car. Yesterday, some girl at a bar tried to talk to me...and her first question was "What car do you drive?" LOL.

    Being a native of Inglewood I REEEALLLY hate when people that aren't from here say Inglewood and places like them are bad areas, I've seen just as much suspect stuff happen in the Wood as I have in the nicer areas. Just mind your business. Happy hunting though.

      Yup, lol. It's happened to me too. I'm originally from the East Coast, so you would think I'd be able to tolerate the cold more, but I've rather adapted to the LA weather, lol.

    • @debradonley3825
      @debradonley3825 5 лет назад

      I was born and raised in LA and I know that 50 isn't cold. Most of us don't consider that cold at all. Where have you heard that? Also, people from the east and Midwest think it never rains. WRONG! It rains here, believe me. They're feeding you a lie there. Guess what? It friggin' snows here, too! It's just that it's in the winter very late at night and it melts by morning. I used to come home from work in the middle of the night and see snow on the freeway at least once a month. Bunch of idiot out of towners.

    I'm moving to L.A in 2 weeks,I love watching videos like this. I've been to L.A 4 times. As someone born & raised in New York City,(toughest city ever to live in) L.A is somewhat of a cakewalk lol. The biggest adjustment is that things aren't as accessible or within walking distance,a lot of restaraunts/bars/clubs etc. close earlier & the Metro isn't as extensive as our public transportation. Honestly though,I give the Metro a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. Yes there's super weird ppl on there & it smells like urine,but it goes back to what I said: Being a New Yorker born & raised prepares you for things like that i feel.

    Great video. I don't mind a little cold weather. Long as it doesn't get as cold as here in Jersey lol. I heard someone say once that you don't see people walking in LA. They were basically saying everyone has a car. LOL. I would love to see the walk of fame. I'm used to crowded streets and restaurants from going to NYC a lot lol. I guess it depends upon being at the right place at the right time when it comes to seeing a celebrity. I've seen several in NY at unexpected places by just going about my day and BOOM! 😂😂😂

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  6 лет назад +3

      Thanks! It's definitely not as cold as jersey :) I do agree that a lot of people have cars here, haha. Or of they don't, they ride ubers a lot which is almost the same thing in terms of traffic on the road. If you're used to crowded places, then I think you would love it here :)

I'm from Northern CA but our city has way waaaay less people living in it than L.A., haha But I feel like moving away from home would be good, however I realize it's going to take some heavy duty research and planning beforehand.

      William George I’m not comparing I’m just saying every time I deliver food to samo/Venice I see homeless ppl and it may or may not smell like pee! In certain parts. (And me growing up in LA and going to school in Brentwood/palisades area seeing both.) Obvs if ur going to live by the canals or by the palisades part of Samo sure but the regular parts aren’t BETTER than anywhere else thts not the east side of LA.Like the only advantage they have over Inglewood is the RENT CONTROL and instant beach access .
      But also maybe she stayed in a super rough part of Inglewood 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

    Nice video :) I am from Brazil and yes, LA seems like a nice place! But I am curious about something: why exactly so many people wanna move there? Like...I was thinking about that too, and I am watching some videos about it...but maybe is because I do not know other cities/states. Underrated ones. Am I wrong? What is it? LA pays well or is it a good place to live, with really great infrastructure and healthy lifestyle? - I really am asking because I do not know much, I would like to hear from people that had an experience there or live there since always :) -

      IM an LA native. Have a high paying job lined up if you want your own place. Research prices, and research location. Prepare to pay taxes for all the illegals and losers. There are more people on benefits than paying taxes so all the jobs are leaving like detroit.

      If you wanted to go to college in L.A. or the L.A. area, your choices are UCLA in Westwood on the westside, USC which is downtown, Loyola Marymount in Westchester, Cal State Northridge in the valley, and Cal State Los Angeles, a little east of downtown. UCLA is a major state university with probably the most college like atmosphere. USC is a private school which is reputable but in a sketchy part of town. Cal State Northridge is a state school which typically attracts older people and those just after a degree. I think maybe the same for Cal State Los Angeles. I don't know much about Loyola Marymount. Another school worth mentioning that's outside of L.A. is California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts). It's where people interested in acting and the entertainment industry typically go. It's in Santa Clarita. If you go to a state school, if you have not lived in the state for two years prior, you will have to pay out of state tuition. If you live in the dorms, you will need a place to go during the summer unless you are enrolled in the summer session. Most people get sick of the dorms fast and move in to an apartment. Typically they share a room with someone and their rent is around $800. By the time you move to L.A. minimum wage in the city will be $15 per hour. Who knows what housing prices will be though. As they are now, you would not be able to afford your own apartment on that wage. You will either have to have one or two roommates or make a while collar salary.

      The best way to settle any city...especially LA...is as a college student. Being a college student avails you of a readymade community and a lot of ins and outs. Also, people who are truly from LA tend to avoid people who come to "make it" in LA. But students get a special exception...because they make more sense. So, see if you can get accepted to school. UCLA, my alma mater, is the best one and hardest to get into...but there are a lot of options...and also good community colleges that allow you to transfer!

    Okay I Have been to LA 3 times and I am used to the city already. As of this writing, I am getting ready to return to LA for the fourth time. The urine smell that you smell is actually the scent of the palm trees in the city. I learned this when staying at a hotel near Hollywood and Western. I had a baby Palm tree and I smelled the leaves and got the same scent. I did enjoy the Metro Red line and yes I did run into some sketchy characters on the subway but I now know how to protect myself and no one bothers me. A lot of what you said are spot on. I am hopefully going to be out there permanently in 2020.

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  5 лет назад

      I personally love Glendale. It is a bit further from the action, but it does have a peaceful vibe to it. If you already have your job/career set, it's a great place to live. The Valley can be great as well, but it comes down to what area you choose because it's so big. You will also be far from a lot of action as well unless you're only going to West Hollywood/Hollywood area.

    I'm from LA...and I highly recommend getting a car...or some kind of motorized transport. I was carless a few times when I decided to backpack the world--and I would return to LA for long visits--and it didn't make sense to purchase a car. This was Pre-Uber...and my God...it was just awful.

      Timo Cruz West Hollywood is great but it is the most expensive out of the three. Everything is walkable right off Melrose, Santa Monica Blvd and Beverly. Burbank is great too! Lots of apartments near downtown, that core is walkable. Studio city is very broad, all that area has tons of apartments and I like that area as well and it will be the cheapest from the three. But don’t be afraid to look further out in the San Fernando valley, east towards Alhambra (lots of boba shops), City Terrace, El Monte it is nice out there! I’m not very familiar with areas south of downtown. Big tip, older apartments don’t have fridges 👎, you buy your own.

      The rents are variable, depending on where you live. Generally north OC is cheaper than south OC - you can find very affordable places in Fullerton, Anaheim, Santa Ana. If you work close then perfect. If not, you'll probably want to move closer to your work after a while. If you live 30miles from your job, your commute could be from 40min to 1.5hrs depending on the route (if you can incorporate a large part of the 22fwy, its best, because it's the least congested).

      Great to see you planning already! I'm sure it will work out :) Yes it is tricky with the Corgi. A lot of buildings don't allow pets, but there are still a lot that do. Usually you just have to pay an extra deposit and sometimes it increases the rent as well, but I'm sure you'll find something that works. A lot of people here have dogs :)

    I'm moving to LA in a little over six months with a roommate- maybe two-, I'm from Chicago, so I understand that whole 'glamours looking, sketchy being' idea. Due to schools, we will need to be near Hollywood. And we are all taking a trip together soon. Are there any areas nearby you could/would suggest moving to or being near?
    And how should one go when trying to move some items state to state?

    I’m highly considering moving to LA in 1-5 years. I have a job that has locations down in LA. But I’d have to get a raise when I move. And I don’t know if I’d be able to drive in LA. When I was there, I got anxiety just riding in the car. I get anxiety driving where I live with basics no traffic. I would need to take the bus everywhere.

      Hey girl! I was scared to drive here at first too, and then I started getting used to it. I'm a bit more of an aggressive driver than I used to be, lol. I say do what you feel most comfortable with. There are a lot of people here who use Uber a lot instead because the bus routes can be a bit limited at times. All the best :)

      Esi Magic TV I'm tired of where I live right now, looking for a fresh start somewhere else pretty much.
      I from the south orginally where I thought about moving other LA, I hear ppl say its great if you are in nursing but not for business.
      LA was my first second choice, I'm up north right now dealing with rude nasty ppl on and off a job. The women here constantly try to find reasons to hate you its crazy. Im so tired of unwanted drama no matter where I move to here.
      I moved here when I was 15, in the same area but it always something, I understand that there are rude nasty ppl everywhere but being that I travel back from the north back to the south to see my dad there is never an issue with anyone.
      They are more polite and I have that same up bringing my mother was born and raise there so, she raised me with the upbringing she had, im 32 now.... Starting to feel trapped here, unhappy, and finding myself hating the ppl here they're so disrespectful and I try so hard to control myself and not fight but its getting difficult I can't lose my temper because I have a great degree that opens good opportunities for me, but my frustration, me feeling trapped here is driving me crazy.... Lol. I have to get out... Sorry I wrote so much, I have been dealing with this for about 17 yrs now im 32
