    Believe it or not, I moved to LA because of Grand Theft Auto V hahaha. Two things I highly recommend before moving (to any place far not just LA) is to have a job lined up before you even get there or have at least 7k to spend on food and on a apartment and maybe a cheap reliable beater to get around in. If you have all 3 already you're off to a really great start. I've seen people move to become actors with about 1k to their name with no job lined up and go in massive debt then they end up leaving in a few weeks to go back to their parents house. I can't stress this enough, HAVE A JOB OR AT THE VERY LEAST 7K TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE FOR THE TIME BEING AND THEN PURSUE THE ACTING OR MODELING STUFF AFTER YOU'RE SECURED. You can't focus and put you're best effort in those things if you're worrying about where you're going to sleep tonight, where are you gonna get food or how much debt you're in. Then again, those things can also fuel your fire to overachieve and work even harder to get your dreams.

      It's funny that you say that because Grand Theft Auto would be one of the reasons I'd be afraid to live here. Thankfully, it's not as scary as in the video game, lol. In terms of what you said about having a job first...I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. It really depends on the person's skill set, because I know people who've gotten jobs within 2 weeks of arriving in LA. It can also be difficult to get a job here without a local address. My point is, you can waste a lot of time trying to get a job here while not being here. I think it's good to at least try. I applied for some jobs first before I moved as well, and when that wasn't working out, I opted to just save up cash and move instead, and since I've been here and people can see me face-to-face, I've had better luck with work opportunities. Ultimately though, I think the option of saving up to move here is the better one. At a certain point, there is an element of risk you have to be willing to take for any dream you have. You know what they say though...the greater the risk, the better the reward :)

      Esi Magic So what if hypothetically speaking I use some else's address on my resume and Job applications? Someone I know of (Not me) have done that in the past when they lived in Connecticut and wanted to go to Florida. Before when he put his CT address he had no interviews, then when he had the Florida address he got a job and then left CT asap and now he's thinking about doing the same thing from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles.

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  9 лет назад +1

      sharpemang It's definitely better to use someone else's address if you have a friend or family member who will let you. I wish I had that option, but unfortunately I didn't know anyone in LA before I moved :)

    • @sharpemang
      @sharpemang 9 лет назад

      Esi Magic Well I don't know anyone there. I'm just picking someone's random address on google maps lol.

    I live in the smallest town ever and it doesn't feel right to me. LA seems like it's so full of energy and interesting people. I would LOVE to live there one day. It would definitely be a change from where I currently live but I feel like it suits my lifestyle so much more than my current location... I'm only 16 sadly so as of now I'm stuck here, but this is a huge goal of mine.

      i love how you like meeting the people there. Many people say that LA people are fake blah blah, but it's nice to know there are real genuine people there too. do you find that's true? I think by just focusing on your self-love and your career you will be surrounded by good people :) how did you handle leaving everything that was familiar at home and go somewhere where you're so far from family or your pets or network and start completely fresh? would help to know your mindset...

    @Young J, please fix your google plus settings, as your comment doesn't allow me to comment on it. Check your account or privacy settings :) To answer your question, having family who are supportive can actually have a big influence on how successful you are. I'm very lucky that my family supported my move to LA and encouraged me to chase my dreams. In terms of living...if you want to live in an area that's close to Hollywood or where the action is, there is no such thing as cheap and nice. You'd have to move a little bit further out of the city, but there are still good options if you live a bit further away :)

    Hello! Loved your video. I'm in the same boat as you. I work a 9-5 job over here in Baltimore, Maryland. I was born and raised here and lived here my whole life. I am 20 years, I work part time and go to school full time. This place does not have that much success at all, it is a struggling city, and like you, I want to live where success is always happening. I have about a year and a half left in college until I get my bachelors degree. I live with my parents, and I have a lot saved up. I really cannot wait to live out there. But people have told me that it is better to visit first before just up and moving somewhere I have never been, and I already have some friends who have lived in LA for a while, so things might not be so bad. I'm on the fence about the whole situation, I've never lived on my own and I would be totally scared to do something that life changing. But you definitely have inspired me, I need to get out of this place!

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  9 лет назад

      Hi Chuck! If you were to move to LA, what type of job would you like to have or what industry are you looking to get into if you came to LA? Or are you looking to freelance or be an entrepreneur? I think it's a lot easier to move having never been to the place before if you already have an action plan of what you're going to do and have done a lot of research. I had never been either, but I had made sure to research like crazy which made it easier to come here. For the most past, what I had researched turned out to be accurate. It also helped that I was miserable back home, so at that point I didn't care if I'd never been, lol. But overall, I think you should focus on what you plan to do here first, that will make it easier to decide if it's a place you should move to :) Good luck with the rest of your schooling, and thanks for nice comment :)

    I don't know anything about acting but from what I have seen of famous actors you have to think like a entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is a person that is self motivated. They don't let the environment dictate where they can go in life. They just go out and get what they want. You have to know who and what you are.

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  8 лет назад

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  9 лет назад

      Michelle C Hi Michelle! I'm glad you liked it! T DOT! lol, In terms of finding an apartment, you can use West side rentals or craigslist. My advice on finding a job is don't just apply the conventional way where 1000's of people all apply for one position online. Think outside of the box. I think you should have at least 7 grand before you go, but it also depends on how much your rent is :)

    lol I'm 13 and I'm the 8th grade watching tons of moving to LA videos.... Idk why but I would be so happy if my parents said we were moving to LA (BTW I currently live in North Carolina). I'm pretty much a city girl, from Pittsburgh and I love looking at the night scenic lights and just sun sets and I guess nerdy stuff like that😂 But stuff like that changes my whole mindset. LA for me is not an option because I would have to much to lose considering my future career in basketball and family but I just wanted to get that out about how similar our mindsets are about success and sceneries changing mindsets :)

    I just moved to the central coast of California ALL the way from NJ. HUGE move. I believe the next step may be LA... Not sure but time will tell. This area is too small city/country like. Thats why LA is probably better. It's never ever easy to leave the ones you love and go to an unfamiliar place... But change is good when you want new things in your life. Prayer is mandatory. Absolutely must trust God to guide you and protect you. Blessings.

      Hi Keiry! Thanks for watching my video, and I'm glad that it was able to bring out emotion from you because my goal is to inspire and motivate people to do what they feel will make them happy :) My advice is that if you want to move somewhere, you kind of have to really figure out why you want to go there, and if it's something deep down that you really want, instead of it maybe being a temporary fix for something else. Once you know for sure that it's what you want. Choose a moving date, and then from that day on, live your life as if you're moving (saving, planning, researching etc.), and then just stick to that date as best as you can no matter what obstacles get in your way. I had a few obstacles slow me down by like 2 months, but I just said screw it, hopped on a plane and here I am. I hope that helps :)

    I am from Illinois and I have been living in Los Angeles for 30 years, believe me this is the worst city in America to live in, housing is really ridiculous,right before the housing crash in 2008 single family homes in Watts and Compton where going for $600,000 , the houses here are way too small most houses are tiny and over priced my coworkers mortgage payment is $2,800 per month for a 1200 sq ft house. The traffic is horrific rush hour is from 5am to 10am and from 2pm to 7pm don't try to drive during those hours especially on Fridays and holidays. I hardly ever rains here the air quality is bad you have to wash your car or it will be covered in dust after a few days. Crime has been low for the past 2 decades but it still exists, oh it is filled with homeless people, it is estimated that there is more than 17,000 people living on the streets in downtown LA many in tents and cardboard boxes it defies the imagination. There is NOT enough Low income housing so people live everywhere, under the freeway, in cardboard boxes, in tents along the LA river, in garages, back houses, abandoned houses, in alleys, in abandoned cars, i even met a guy who lived in the attic. Mass transit does NOT exist, when i first moved here there where only buses, now there are light rail trains to nowhere. You have to have a car here you cant get around the city. In the summer it gets real hot and it does get fairly cool in the winter. The smog is real bad, and during the fire season there is smoke in the air. Everything you heard about Los Angeles is a lie, rent here is ridiculous. They say that the population is 52% Hispanic but I believe its more than %60. The African American population in LA is shrinking fast, you hear about Watts, South Central and Compton but they are predominately Hispanic now. I would much rather live in Chicago or New York City. Ten years ago my sister packed here bags and moved to New York and nerver looked back,7 years from now I am going to to the same when I retire. Salaries are not in line with housing it is not uncommon for several people to live in a studio apartment. DO NOT move to Los Angeles This is the dirtiest filthiest city in America, people dump trash in the alleys on the street corners everywhere, because they cannot afford the high cost of trash collection.Traffic fines are totally ridiculous, In October I got my car towed because it was in one of Los Angeles anti grid lock zones, It cost me $400 in fines, the no parking sign was blocked by trees and you could not see it. The high schools are the worst in the nation unless you can afford to send you child to a private school. Parking is ridiculous too you will pay $30 to park your car in downtown LA , Laker games are ridiculous when it costs $300 for nose bleed seats. There is NO NFL football here and no team for 20 years, thats because the people to NOT want to pay for a stadium. If you go on vacation dont come here the food truck capital of the world where there is a taco stand on every corner !

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  9 лет назад +3

      Clearly you can't stand LA, lol... which is fair. To each their own...however, it's important to remember that the things that bother you may not necessarily bother someone else. For example, Things like traffic, and parking are annoying, but it's not enough to make me dislike the city. Same with the homeless situation...it's bothersome, but still not enough to make me dislike this place. I will agree with you however on the housing situation, it's ridiculously expensive, but it's one of those things that if you want to live here, you kind of have no choice but to pay expense. Overall, I think you should keep in mind that people value different things in life, and so maybe LA is worth it for that person who values different things than what you value :)

    Hi Esi!
    Love your videos, such an up-spirited person! I plan to move to LA as soon as possible. Right now I am starting to save money. I currently am in nursing school and I'm trying to find a school out there (I'm from Philly) so I can continue my degree. I've never been to LA but I can just tell from all the research that it is the place for me. I would plan on getting a job maybe waitressing or bar tending. Is it tough competition in those fields?

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  9 лет назад

      Alexandra Szczepanski Heyyy girl! It's not hard to get a job as a bartender or waitress as long as you look good. I'll be honest, a lot of restaurants/bars hold their waitresses to high standards, and expect you to look like an actress :) They'll even ask you submit a headshot a lot of the time, lol.

    First off you have a beautiful home btw. I'm in philly and I plan to move to LA late next year and I guess it's a advantage that I have family there. I'm surprised by the lack of support really lol except for my parents they are fine with it. I been there more than once and LOVED it lol. But do you have any tips on saving money and what sections of LA are nice but at the same time cheap also. It doesn't matter to me but just nothing really expensive.

    you have a very good valid reason why you move to Los Angeles, and I agree, it's good to hang with people with real ambitions, and that is who I respect the most. I only visit LA once, but I do have a question, how is the Communication in los angeles? According to my experience, LA people seem very clicky, unless if I go to events, if not, I'm very much left out like a lone wolf.

    • @Esimagic
      @Esimagic  9 лет назад +1

      Interesting that you had that experience, because I've rather had the opposite experience. I find that it's the events that are more snobby, as opposed to just random people you see on the street and in stores. I guess it could depend on which event it is. Thanks for watching :)

      I also did some research as well, I find out that Los Angeles, is a Secret city. I visit LA for Anime Expo, people in california thinks I am crazy, came all the way from Minnesota just for that kind of event. lol I just applaud that you are very ambitious about what you are aiming for.
