I prefer this to the Rubinstein or Horowitz versions I have heard. Beautifully balanced between and within the hands. It's also closer to the way I aspire to interpret it (if a bit faster in places and just a bit more accurate LOL) so I may be biased! :))
It could be played slower and just as beautiful, so don't feel intimidated into not trying it yourself! It's easier than it sounds. To play the notes, at least. To get the depth out of the music that Maria João Pires gets though, that is up at another level. Brendel's version I am afraid does little for me in comparison.

Such precision and detail necessary to learn and perform, immense beauty tucked away to be discovered, a great way to begin to really get to know Schubert. No "just plowing through" allowed. 247 dislikes and not a single insightful comment from the naysayers. . . And yet -- the changes of temperament she brings to each section of no. 4 and then the shifts of mood within sections, her rubato suited to the harmonic and rhythmic turbulence, the affecting calm before foreboding climax, and the welcome return of the opening which I greedily want to go on and on . . .

Enjoy…

The Impromtu No.4 in A-flat Major, well done, with that right hand glissando-like progression pattern.

Pires's interpretation of No. 3 is magnificent - very similar to Brendel's (More Brendel: Schubert Op. 90/3), which is my favourite.

ALFRED BRENDEL. CLIFFORD CURZON? Nobody like LIPATTI, believe me.

Terrific interpretation of the master who left the world waaaaay too early. He died with so much music still in him (he was only 31 when he passed). Thanks for posting.

***** Do not feel bad...even Beethoven did not accomplish what Schubert had done by the time he was 31 (1801). He had written the first symphony and the opus 13 piano sonata by then, but...

Barry Mennen My Father was a Sargent Major of 25 years. A wonderful Father. Husband and Grandfather. Very much loved. He was and always will be a beautiful Gentleman. He was a Chef too. A very kind and generous Dad. Who I so miss very much. He was very talented my Father. He had a zest for life. And put everyone first before himself. When he use to come in through the door it was like a beam of light. he always made me happy. I miss him so very much. I will never forget him. He was a sweet heart and still is. God bless him. He is in heaven

The photograph used in this vid captivates me. The way she emerges from the darkness with her hands cradling a face glowing with intelligence, patience, and inquisitiveness. I'm sold. I don't even care what it is she's holding (e.g., a blankey, scarf, whatever).

if she's wearing a blankey she's got us all sold too. She's just transcendental as a true musician should be. Not a machine, with only amazing technique, but can actually play with emotion.

Perfect songs to read the subjective forms of the clouds and to follow with a tender eye the grooves of the stems of the trees; appreciate the complex writing of the nested branches, taste the colors of the decomposition of light into water droplets in a garden, and strongly feel the wet soil of ancestral forest to perceive the traces of animals from deep past 🦕
