Thank you!!🙌New subscriber here and its Back to School time! I have been watching command center idea videos after video!!! I'm a homeschool mama and wanted to really create a better system this year for the family of 4 !! Thank you for ALL of the wonderful visuals and unique ideas. I Very much liked the breakdown of command center personality traits!!! Believe it or not you are 💯 percent correct, you can never have too many different hubs. I have a few spread out through out the house and was trying to figure out how to bring them together into one space but you are correct!! It doesn't matter as long as it's working!!!

I just found this channel. I have ADHD, and paper organization is very difficult for me, have a hard time deciding what to keep, what to toss.
Also have Asperger's so I have an excessive desire to be organized. I'm always struggling to be more tidy and fight clutter (too many receipts! Years of tax returns I might need!) A major priority to me is my good credit rating, paying bills on time, avoiding all late fees for everything, dealing immediately with overcharges and poor customer service; my adult children call me a "bulldog."
Since I've had several occasions where I needed a receipt I just threw out on a "declutter day" I hesitate to throw receipts for anything.
I'm drowning in all this and family pictures too. Help!

Love this video. Now come to my house and set mine up please...lol. I can relate with you about Rollercoasters. About 10 years ago our then 2 teen boys and husband went to a theme park and rode the Intimidator coaster. I thought I was going to die!! I came to the realization that Rollercoasters after 40 are not fun anymore. After that ride was the scrambler. That is not fun anymore either. So nerve racking....

Yes, I too was adventurous. I'd ride on the bow of our boat on lake Ontario. The bigger the swells, and dips the more I hooped and yelled,...but then I became a mom. The first time I went out on the boat I was a wreck, couldn't wait to get to shore. Instincts to survive to care for your little ones! Normal.

    • @godsqtchik
      @godsqtchik 2 года назад +3

Yeah I'm the same way. I think it's just how we're designed for survival. We're more adventurous when we're young & supposed to be finding a mate & then we get older & our bodies slow us down as we age, but we also become protective mama bears constantly griping at our adventurous kids to be safer. 🤣 It's just the cycle of life, I guess.

I have also gone from an adventurous free spirit to a homebody! Getting older, having kids, and anxiety all play a role. I don't need to ride a roller coaster when my emotions are a roller coaster every day!

I had mine on a wall above a buffet table in the kitchen. It worked perfect. I had a cork board with a calendar, hooks with each of the kids important papers, etc….But our a-hole cat started clawing at the cork board at night and ripping everything down and clawing up the board! So thinking it was because he must think it’s a scratching board for him, I switched to a magnet board which is a lot smaller and less functional for us…the cat still climbs up on the buffet and pulls the papers and magnets down! 😂 it’s funny, but it’s not! He must not like my attempt to organize.

I can relate to the amusement park rides. I loved roller coasters! And then my 40 hit and that amazing thrilling feeling I got when I was younger riding a coaster, is now pure I'm going to die and this is not fun feeling. It only got worse as I got older. Something in your brain changes. I don't know what it is but boy do I miss the old days and riding the lastest coasters to come to Kings Island or Cedar Point. I'm a little bit of everything when it comes to command centers. Some work well and some are works in progress. Good video.

Thanks so much for these tips! We are severely downsizing and I will have to find a new place to keep my bills and todos and tofiles. We used to camp about every weekend or for weeks at a time in all weather (think tents in blizzards and frozen over porta-potties to locations so hot we had to melt ice in a horse trough to cool off.) I made feasts for 50 from a camp stove and grill and I think I had more camping gear than I had regular bedding. But now, I'm like my brother-in-law who says roughing it is when room service is late. I put it in the same category as when I realized I didn't really have to eat chitlins or escargots to be an adventurous eater. Wisdom comes with age.

I think it's also important to remember that your command center can change! You can move it around, add, subtract, create, delete, etc. It will grow and change as your life grows and changes. But this video is terrific and will tell you everything to do. It's also a great idea to create command centers next to each child's study desk and file cabinet. Kids need command centers too and it will get them introduced to organizing their lives. You can work with them regularly to teach them how to use it, how to organize, file, and incorporate their command center into their own lives. Starting in fifth grade, a command center for each student's study desk area will help them to feel "This is my own space where I can study and work well." Check with them too to see if it's working or how they need it to change. Comfy desk chair? Comfy curl-up-and-read chair? Enough light? Enough storage space? Enough desk top area or do they need more? Your child grows! And what is enough at eleven will need to get bigger as they do too! What new ideas do they have? Go shopping with your child and help them to choose what they want to be in their own command center, to make it cute, inviting, and their own special space. "Bring up a child in the way s/he should go, and when s/he is grown, s/he will not depart from it!" Cass, this is an idea for another video: Your child's space needs to grow up with them! They are students with computers! Do they have a study area/office in their own rooms sufficient for their growing study needs? When they grow, it's time to let go of baby things!

At 78 I still like adventures, but mine are a lot tamer now (and have been for quite awhile). No more jumping from high places... or sleeping on the hard ground... or hiking without a hiking pole in each hand... or doing anything that might wreck my back any more than I've already done! I also remember the first time I got really nervous about flying. It was the first time I flew with an infant. Suddenly, getting into a metal tube speeding at 100s of miles per hour far above the earth seemed like an insane thing to do especially with an innocent baby!

Coupons I know or think I will use go directly into a specific spot in my wallet so I always have them with me when I’m shopping. I’ve also started making my shopping list in the notes on my phone so I don’t forget to grab the list on my way out, and when I run out of something I add it to the correct notes on my phone immediately. I always have one generic one for Groceries, one for Shopping (for non-grocery items such as clothing or home decor) and one under the name of the nearest larger city for items I can’t find locally. That last one is a great save because if I happen to be there for something else I can check to see if there’s anything I need to buy while I’m there. If I’m planning an IKEA run (the nearest one is 2 hours away) I create a list for all the items I want to look at, things I want to get ideas for, items I want to check interior dimensions on, etc. I also make notes about what the website says is and is not in stock before I leave. I was slow to give up paper and pencil, but I’ve LOVED always having my list with me!

    • @ldwernychuk
      @ldwernychuk 2 года назад +1

I do the same with the coupons and phone list. I always have my phone with me, but not always paper and pen. If I thought of something while I am at work, I would write it on a piece of paper, never to be seen again. But if I can grab my phone and add it to the list right away....I know I will remember it. Also, I can put a star or something beside an item to remind me I have a coupon. Or I will put 'use points' to remind me that I have enough loyalty points for a store.

I have decided that when I was younger I was trying all the new things...but once you try them they just aren't as exciting anymore. Like I used to never be home- always on the go- always onto the next thing and place. Now it's like "been there, done that, got the Tshirt"...I actually enjoy the peace of my life now. You suddenly realize that your kids will be lost without you and that takes a lot of adventure spirit out of it. And getting older does not help with joint and back pain🤪. Probably you will travel the world again, when your kids are grown up. But probably staying in nice luxuries places😁

I think the "circular file" is the file that will best solve my paper clutter issues. One of the DT RUclipsrs hauled a laundry room sign with three clothes pins. I thought it said something like "lost socks seeking sole mate". Thought this might be something you want to look for next time you are at DT.
I have learned to stay away from amusement parks and can't ride the baby rides either. Somewhere along the way, I developed a fear of heights. I seem to remember enjoying the "Tilt-a-Whirl" when I was a kid. Tried it a few years ago and it felt like 3 minutes of "sheer torture". Don't know what happened but my amusement park days are over.

Paper has to be decluttered often to be found. I have never found a vertical, box, drawer or horizontal system that works better than that. I learned one from minimal mom that helps, but isn't perfect either. I use three shelves that hold 8x10 paper or smaller. (Desk trays basically) The top shelf is for bills needing paid. The second shelf is for wait and see. The bottom shelf is put away. Still, for me, it is the decluttering it often that works. This system has been the best for me. I really like your wall idea, but to me, it would look pretty and I wouldn't want to file it in there. Love the white wall organizers. Perfect for college dorms!

So I have a question...is it normal, or even possible, to unintentionally change the type of organizer you are? For example, I'm pretty sure I've always been a cricket...I hate seeing clutter and can't think or function when there are piles everywhere. When I would move (often, I have moved 30 times now) I set up files and stuff with lots of categories (yes, struggling perfectionist). However, the last few years, lots of change, lots of family stress and loss and health issues. Now I'm just at the point where maybe "I don't care" but I'm definitely not functioning and it really bothers me...messes and unfinished projects everywhere, still not completely unpacked or organized after over a year and half in this house, plus had to add all my mom's stuff to the pile when she passed at the same time we moved, but the thought of getting everything into a proper home is just overwhelming. Maybe I'm more of a ladybug now? I am liking the idea of bins behind doors to just chuck stuff into. Plus I just realized that husband is more of a bee or butterfly....he needs to see everything or he forgets, which drives me nuts and makes me shut down even more. He's taken over the kitchen and now does all the cooking (or we'd starve because I'm not doing it) and it's very stressful for me to try to help because everything is out on the counters and makes me crazy and nothing is where I would put it in the fridge or cabinets so trying to cook is not enjoyable at all for me. I'm not sure where to start or which system to try to set up now. I did show husband your 4 types of closets and he likes the clear bins and agreed (maybe under slight duress??) it would be okay to be behind doors IF they were all clearly labeled, so I've been looking but can't seem to find anything at a price I'm willing to pay that would work. I have been slowly working on decluttering, but other than that, any advice? And have you seen people change their organizing type before? Thank you...love your videos, especially the stories at the end!!

That is SOOO funny about rides. I was always into roller coasters and just all the twirl you around rides. Went to all 4 parks in FL recently, and after standing in the queue, chickened out when it was my family's time to get on Space Mountain. I think I heard the announcement one time too many about if you will be affected by sudden drops, lifts, bumps, jerks etc, this might not be the ride for you. I decided to listen to my feelings and declined to ride. Although the employee kinda had a smirk when he said, 'You're not going?' And showed me the exit, I watched as my senior citizen mom, sister, brother in law and two nieces happily got on. I just don't care for rides anymore that have the waist security bars. I'd feel more willing with the bars over my entire body, say for instance if anyone ever went on the Hulk ride. I definitely prefer low key rides now. :)

Cas, I just took your Clutterbug test again. I am now a BEE! Last time I was a 🦋. .. WHAT?
I also just two days ago labeled myself a hoarder of a certain degree bc I literally have stuff Everywhere. I don't need another label.
The ADD, OCD, BiPolar, and Complex PTSD are crippling me mentally.
I am on disability for a host of debilitating physical issues.
Five times I have lost almost everything I own. (Which is a big part of the problem.)
I was also bullied, so I found comfort in my stuff at an early age.
Both of my parents are crickets, I think. So they had a Lot of stuff, but it was organized and the house was clean.
    I am a self-proclaimed wanna-be perfectionist.
But decision-making and nowhere to put anything in this old house with few closets is a constant problem. 🙄
Any ideas (after getting rid of a lot of stuff)?
Letting go of anything is difficult, 😕 especially since I have an eye for imagining that even a piece of trash can be used in a craft to make something!
Oh! I just love empty containers!
How could I return anything without a host of leftover Amazon boxes? (Returning mistakes rarely happens; procrastinator is my middle name.)
So, I will close by mentioning that I am desperately trying to stop my shopping addiction

I was that way at 19! Nothing scared me! I would try to walk from the River Walk in back to downtown San Antonio, TX, at night, by myself, to get back to where I was staying (my friends didn’t let me go alone). I would jump into freezing cold swimming pools in February and not care! At 21, I went hiking in the mountainous Ozarks with friends, slipped, and almost fell to my death (but my friends grabbed me and caught me before I rolled down the mountainside). No way I’d do any of that now! 😂 I’ve got two teenagers and a very emotional 9-year-old, so everyday is an adventure with them, LOL! I’m also realizing death is not my friend, and I’d like to live to see my grandkids, LOL!

And then surprise! i had an amazing baby: risks were suddenly over, for example with my horse i was afraid of hurting myself (never before!!), because who could take care of my son if i was hurt?

Lol I'm positive my 11 yr old didn't want to know me after that, lol!😂 I feel I've lost my adventurous side too, what's up?? Well you know, it's anxiety for me, besides dizziness. I struggle with anxiety issues even though I've tried to pretend I don't. It all came to a head recently with what I think was a panic attack. There's a RUclipsr that talks about how to work through anxiety, it's been helping a lot. But this mama for sure isn't going on no sideways, upside- down ride at the fair, lol!
